Ok guys, I know this might not be the perfect tablet but this seems like it will be a fun device to mess around with. I am going to try to keep this thread as up to date as possible. Please keep this thread clean and RELATED to development - NOT general questions about the tablet!

Current Issues and Bugs (more to come)
No volume hardkeys - Need get semi-transparent on-screen controls for these function
Recovery is useless (Hold Home+Power while booting up) - No way to access functions in Recovery menu
Software is a mess - we really need a new recovery, a cleaned up ROM, and overclocking!
In adb shell, doing a "reboot recovery" reboots the device to a black screen and doesn't bring up recovery.
7/30/10 - Pattern lock doesn't work after setting it up
7/30/10 - If you have Settings > Applications > Development > Stay Awake checked, the screen stays awake even when unplugged

I think this is a good start. If anything needs to be added or edited, let me know - preferably via PM to keep this thread clean. If we have any dev out there at all that can provide us with some help, let me know and I will try them on my tablet (or adb). I need to do some more reading on how to compile kernels and ROMs and things. Hopefully the coming update will be an .img file or something useful that we can use to advance the development of this tablet!

Excellent.. thanks for posting this. I actually like the Menu, Home, Search and Back button location.. you want this thread mainly about development then huh.. We need a general page also.
There's on screen volume controls while watching a video, but not for music.. thats weird. you'd think they'd do both.
I ran Quadrant and Scored over 300. Just barely below the Moto Droid according to they're results.. Not bad. it was smooth at least. According to Quadrant I was running at 600 Mhz, and the Max Frequency is 600 Mhz, and the min was like 38. so thats pretty low. that could be wrong though. The spec's say 800 Mhz so I'm not sure why it read at 600 Mhz as the max. I'm looking into this all more but it's charging right now.
Thanks for putting this up. I got my tablet today and I must say that I kind of like it. Yes, it has all the quirks you mentioned but like you, I feel it has allot of potential.
Will definitely keep up with this.
awesome i'm gonna talk to augen to try to get the adb drivers tommorow. Having a working recovery is very important. I guess they put on a fake radio and that needs to be fixed so that it will stop searching for signal and increase our battery life. I'm wondering if what hardware is on this? since it gives an evdo signal I wonder if it's capable of connecting to a phone service? course i'm not gonna find out till we got a working recovery. I got some time off starting friday so i'll really be able to do some help for this. Oh do you know if flash_image is installed? I ask cuz i'm currently stuck in recovry or something (think i just got a bad device cuz my sdcards wouldn't show)
I feel the same way. i Kinda like it. It's got potential, and I'm sure it will be a fun device for a while. I'm going to use it while I browse forums and watch TV instead of my Nexus One.
Spec's of a G1/Dream. with a 800 Mhz CPU and a 7" screen. I quite like it.
and yea I think they loaded a fake radio also. it has E.. full service, but it does vary and go up and down. it also has been showing Roaming for me the entire day. Mine lists Teleco Loco for the provider instead of like T-Mobile. really odd. I'd like to loose the E symbol all the way like my Nexus does when I'm on Wifi.
I ran the system infomation tab on Quadrant and this is mostly what it says. (not sure if accurate or not)
CPU
Name: ARMv6-compatible
Processor Rev 6 (v6l)
Current Freq: 600 Mhz
Max was also 600 (the specs page says 800 so idk what that is about) (I feel some overclocking is in my future)
Min Freq: 36 Mhz

Architecture: 7
BogoMIPS: 499.71
Hardware: telechips
TCC89/91/92XX Demo Board (haha a demo)

Graphics info is very interesting
Arm:
Renderer: Mali-200 is the GPU
Open GL ES-CM 1.1

texture size of 4096
has a TCC92xx 3_axis Accelerameter.
can one of you guys install terminal emulator from the market install it and run these commands?
Code:
cd /system/bin
ls -a
see if flash_image is in there
xguntherc I think the processor is underclocked the guy that did this didn't really know much about android is my guess. I mean he used testkeys for gods sake
yup.. test keys and the software was from 2010 7/20.. it's like 9 days old.
Fresh out the Kitchen. if no one will. I'll run that command for you

Terminal Emulator
or Better Terminal. Doesn't matter. I also found APKatcher, so i'm going to add that to my SD. use there file manager to install is so I can install APK's from email. thats easier for me. I also an going to download the market enabler app to see if that helps. lol.
Anyone notice the Manual mentions when you charge there is a Red indicator light, and will go green when it's fully charged. The light is inside the device and I see it glowing through the Mini USB port.. so i guess thats the indicator, but it's hard to see. haha

ADB worked right away for me on the tablet so anything you need in ADB I can do. Tell me what else you need me to run.
/system/bin did have a flash_image and I copied it to my card. Let me post it up here in a sec as a .zip
EDIT: flash_image posted. will update OP. Seemed odd that it was only 10kb... Secondly, would it help if I made an .img of all the mtd partitions?
We should get an IRC going so we can tackle a little more than just back and forth in posts. Anyone up for that??
EDIT: Gonna be up for a little and created an IRC channel. http://java.freenode.net/ #augendev if anyone is interested.
I'm definfitly up for irc that but it's gonna have to be tommorow. I gotta be to work in the morning. But after tommorow i got a week. I guess mine was more messed up than i thought because i couldn't use adb (ruunning windows). So broken sd slot, no adb, tablet not coming on yeah it's definitly messed up. Gonna hopefully exchange. Do wanna say though that with flash_image in there we can definitly get a custom recovery. And if they are doing a update we can use that to make roms. Funs just sttarting
I'm exited to see how things go for this bad boy. I'm not very good with all the deep stuff. but I've got most my apps on her now. I've not tried to root yet though.
Here is a problem that I am having... I have the tablet rooted and I have superuser on here. Odd thing is that when I fire up TB, it just aquires root automatically but it doesn't do that on any of my phones. My guess is that the SU file needs to be modified or I need to put in the correct one to make it so when an app asks for root, it goes through superuser. What do I need to do that?
Sent an email over to Koush and gave him the link to this thread hoping he can make us a custom recovery! He's a genius so I'm sure it will be nothing for him.
THIS IS GONNA ROCK! The potential is very high
yea the potential is pretty high. I just installed setCPU, but we a rom. and i need to take the time and root it.
I emailed them. The dev also mentioned he'd be adding some sensitivity to the screen controls. Thats a good thing. that's my largest concern right now.
You guys should just email Augen and tell them that for $1000 you'll fix the mess for them.
They'd be smart to encourage your project regardless...for this device to have any kind of legs, it will need a strong dev community.

first and foremost, if I've posted in the wrong place, I ask that a MOD kindly move it for me please...and you have my sincerest apology now, if its in the right place then disregard these words. Notice I said MOD, i don't need a bunch of people posting all the known comments like "this is in the wrong place" .."somebody ban this waste of space"..."learn how to read the forum rules"..."I'm tired of people posting here"...etc, etc. All that is not necessary, when a MOD can simply come right along and move it. If you insist on being a MOD "wanna be"..or a "tattle tell" (some refer to as snitch) Then just PM the CEO of XDA that Klyentel posted in the wrong place, who cares...as long as it gets corrected
EDITDONT WORRY ABOUT YOUR SWAP PARTITIONS,COMPCACHE,3RD PARTY SWAP APPS, AND YOUR FANCY LITTLE USER CONFIG'S.....THEY WON'T WORK ON THIS ROM--AND YOU DON'T NEED EM-
I highly recommend anyone who hasn't played with the overclocking hack recently brought to everyones attention, credit and thanks to Eugene, or anyone who has tried it and didn't like it, to make their first time experience or redeem their failed experience with KnK's version of the super-d 1.8 rom, seriously, it will shut down any doubts in mind that the hack makes a difference, trust me.
(Some of you may or may have not already tried this, if so feel free to comment your experience, as it will give others a better idea what to expect, similar settings don't count, you can sit here & argue this forum a thousand pages long about how you already tried this and that...how you turned swap on and off got the same results....benchmarked this, benchmarked that....well Daproy said this and Shadowich said that....[those are just random names of high posting users by the way, I'm not pointing anyone out, by all means those are two well respected, knowledgeable senior members for those who don't know] but I will not engage into a paragraph after paragraph argument with you, nothing stands as a valid opinion until you flashed this rom, not your own tweaked version, with your own tweaked settings, THIS ROM>FOLLOWING THESE STEPS are the only valid comments that will be made redeemable to any type of response from me, period. If another random member wants to post back and forth with ya than fine, but I will continue to ignore irrelevance)
And it would be greatly appreciated if off topic, sarcastic humor, LOL buddy chat, and pointless picture posting be taken over to a PM for private conversation...as it has nothing to do with this thread
BY THE WAY THIS IS NOT MY ROM, I AM NOT A DEV. I'M A HAPPY SUPER D USER WHO STUMBLED ACROSS A PIECE OF GREATNESS AND DECIDED TO SHARE. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS, ISSUES, CONCERNS, OR QUESTIONS...I SUGGEST YOU CONTACT THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS TWEAKED VERSION OF SUPER D, HERE IS HIS INFO-- [email protected], XDA MEMBER NAME-KNK, TWITTER-DIGITALKNK
THANK YOU
Backup what ya got, Do a clean full wipe, download this zip:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3J6RP7GN
extract it to ya pc, grab the setcpu.txt file and the setcpu apk- he forgot to put it back in the rom, so you will need this unless you have a copy of the apk on your sdcard already, place it on the root of ya sd,
transfer the KnK's custom Super D rom to your sdcard,
boot into recovery and flash,
after it fully loads, don't do anything, reboot again,
when it loads back up, go to your setcpu app and choose Custom settings
tweak your high/min the way ya want, I recommend 628/245
after setting it, reboot again,
when it loads back up, you will be completely amazed, I promise you.
Whats special about his version? Theres no swap/compcache, a few system apps are removed (so if you like the stock email, calculator, IM and all that, you'll have to port it back yourself)
Maps Nexus Multi-Touch enhancement already applied, cpu hack boot img already compiled and packaged
and probably more but IDK, maybe he tweaked the kernel or something, needless to say this is still Super D-1.8, and you all know how great that is anyway, credit due to the Dev-Ben Buchacher
but truth be told this is the fastest I've seen guys, really, It defeats the purpose of swap and compcache
just try it on ya spare time, and if ya follow the steps above I promise you wont be disappointed
I welcome all your opinions, negative, positive, flame me, blame me, hate me and be angry, I don't care....this is worth my time to post for others to try because my experience was that good, call it crazy, "placebo", imaginative, whatever....bet ya can't call me a lie flash and you'll see why.
Downloading this now can't wait to try it out
Thanks, I'll try this out too
The different fonts and colors hurt my eyes. I'll download it though...
And someone had to say something negative:
"The rom cooker app isn't even out yet and it's already happening."
That should rid the negative for a few posts
Wooo downloading now. Thank you for sharing.

What are the required partitions and SPL?
I installed setCPU, but I'm not getting the option to increase the clockspeed beyond 528 ...
Where exactly do I copy the setcpu.txt file to get the additional clock rates?
Do I choose a different hardware platform (g1, magic, nexus, etc.) for the setCPU app?

put the file on the root of your sd---meaning just drop it on the card, not inside a folder
you will not choose a handset- such as g1, magic,nexus,etc...
you will choose the very last option which is Custom settings
please do not forget two reboots are required!! Follow all steps carefully.
I spent some time with the ROM and I wasn't noticing a huge difference in performance... Went back to Super D.

please do tell in detail....did you reboot after first flash? and again after setting overclock? How long did you play? Were there any decreases in performance? Such as lags, freeze ups? what did you clock? high/min?
People, dont get carried away, you cant just flash, boot up, spin clock speed up to highest your heart feels, then turn off and nandroid back to your old set-up, you have to do the steps above exactly as stated, and if you did indeed do so...i want to know more about what your experience and clock tweaks were, because one minor adjustment can make a difference.

Couldn't really tell either. I replaced Home++ with Advanced Launcher to make a better judgement, but as far as I can tell it's just the typical Super D speeds... which is of course, amazingly fast.
Tried at your rec setting of 628.

cool,
alright thanks for the input!
Here's an idea, if you're up for it...wipe and go back to the stock super D 1.8 with no cpu hack, and see if the speed feels the same....it'll be fast, cus like you said super d is fast, but I can almost guarantee it wont be the same
Umm wow ... I didn't think Klyentel would have made a post about this hahaha. In any case thanks .
I don't run it at 780 in fact My max is 580mhz since overclocking it to anything above that is a battery eater and doesn't jump much in performance.
Be sure to use profiles on setcpu that is the most useful feature on there.
I have these settings.
Charging
- 780max
- 384min
Sleep/Standby
- 245max
- 128min
Power < 90%
- 580max
- 245min
Battery Temp > 37.9
- 245max
- 245min
I have the profile set @ 780 when charging because I have the failsafe enabled which drops the cpu down if the battery is to heat up. So that's the only time I have it enabled at 780mhz.
Well I hope you enjoy the rom I didn't do much but just tweak it a bit like Klyentel said Ben did most of the work with SuperD which is an awesome rom all I did was tweak it to my liking
For those not seeing a difference you won't really at standard tasks, I have setcpu to on demand on the normal Super D 1.8 and set at 384 or 528 max you see no real difference... that is until you start multi tasking. Having 10 browsers windows open, snes emulator, last fm and documents to go the speed increase is greatly noticed as its at its heaviest usage that the cpu finally decideds to crank up due to workload.
If your gonna test then do so properly rather than a quick look and deciding nothing has changed. Gonna flash this myself later and do some proper more constructive testing and report back.
I was very skeptic in beginning on installing Custom Roms. But once i say the guide on how to do it and on how easy it was, its eased the pressure and i caved in a installed a Rom. Now that i have gotten the taste of playing around with my phone I want to take a crack at installing a Custom Kernal, but i have no clue how or where to start.
There are guides for installing and flashing everything for the Evo. I myself have just started using custom Roms and now i want to try a Custom Kernal, Yet i have no clue as how to flash/install a Kernal onto my Evo. I did a forum search and i didnt see anything. Can someone please guide me in the right direction on how to install a Custom Kernal. I know this is prob not the proper section to post this in but i thought if this is the place where all the guides are to Roms and other goodies why not post this here.
Also if i do manage to Install/flash a Kernal is there anyway to undo that kernal and go back to stock kernal ?
Thank You, Very Much Appreciated
ummmmm you flash it just like a rom in recovery... it doesnt get any easier than that....

you need set cpu to coverclock the right way buy it off the market to support the dev
I just downloaded setcpu and it looks like an extremely interesting depth app. I wouldn't even know where to start using an application like that with all if its settings. Its there a more user friendly app that does the same thing?

Its really not that bad. For now, just look at the main page. It tells you your current Mhz at the top in big letters. Then it'll say how its scaling (probably ondemand). Below that there will be a max and a min. Change the max slider bar to change the maximum speed you want the processor to work at. Change the minimum to change the minimum speed you want it to work at. I'd recommend leaving scaling alone for now. On demand just means that when the phone needs more processing power, it will automatically work faster, and when it doesn't need it, it will slow down. Setting it to Performance makes it run at the top speed continuously (this could be very harmful to your phone if you leave it alone for too long) Thats about it. If you want I can help you with profiles too.

WOW Thanks a million. I really appreciate all of your help. I dont really know what profiles are pertaining to overclocking. Also where can i get the stock Kernel from if i ever want to go back? I have the Evo with the 003 Screen but i had the version that came with the non update. Its totally rooted and everything.
question...
Ok, so do you need to do a wipe of everything when you flash a custom kernel?
(The irony is I flashed netarchy kernel 3.7.8 about 2 wks ago, but was late and drinky when I did it, and can't remember if I did all that. Wanna flash his new 4.x kernel)
Thanks in advance.

Hey, thanks. I just couldn't remember if I did a full wipe of everything before. I now just wiped cache, and dalvik, and it worked without a hitch. Flashed 4.0 kernel. Crazy fast. But, now wired tether for root is no longer working. If anyone can get it working in froyo, please let me know. I've searched and find nothin. Don't want pdanet or easy tether because they require the host to have special drivers, wired_tether_for_root_users works on anything you plug into, no extra drivers reqd. Just doesn't work with newer version of kernel. Anyone knows anyhow, please fill me in.
Thanks to all
Little irked about this 10 post minimum crap so I can't post this in the forum that it applies to but whatever -
Have a rooted Asus pad running revolver 2.1.3. Since day 1 I (preroot) have not been able to get quadrant to run properly. Cpu tests are skipped and I get a service call failed messahe when I try to submit and view my score. Wifi is active and working, have tried a fix permissions, data and cache wipe and still a no go. Anyone have any suggestions or encountered this before?
Secondly I am getting a service not responding wait/fc error on startup from recovery. Cold boot doesn't produce the problem but the reboot after having been in cwm results in the hang. I try to restart and it locks up and eventually reboots itself. Any ideas on where to start with this?
Thanks.
Quadrant means nothing..really no point of trying to get it to work if it doesn't. Your recovery problem I have no idea, all I can say is try reflashing CWM and see if that works. You can probably try going back to stock and then re-root/install CWM from scratch.
Hah hah hah, i get the the service call failed message too.
After trying a few times, i said f--k this, and gave up.
Why bother wasting time on some scores that mean nothing in real life, just enjoy the tablet!
Whether or not you guys find it useful has no bearing on this discussion. I find it useful to have something to base performance tweaks on. If there is another program out there that would accomplish this, I would love to know about it because I have always used quadrant for lack of knowing about anything else. I am looking for either a fix or another program to work with, not smartass comments.
I'll try reflashing recovery and see if it clears up that issue. Thanks for the suggestion.
Smart bench 2011 is ok, gives productivity and gaming index, specialised for dual core devices.
Quadrant is more useful or tailored for snapdragon devices I have heard.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Quadrant is a useless estimate in the performance of a device. Being able to get, for example, 1020 one time, and after a "tweak" getting 1030 means absolutely nothing. Best estimate in performance is your own opinion and real world use. If something feels snappy or more responsive, but still gives you the same quadrant score, then keep it - don't try to make the score higher.
My droid 1 used to get a low quadrant score, but it felt snappy and fast so I didn't give a crap.
Quadrant is like Windows Index Experience, it means nothing. My 6 core 3.3GHz cpu, 30GB SSD, and GTX 550 ti only gets a 5.3 on WIE, but it boots up in less than 30 seconds and runs everything I throw at it with flying colors.

I agree with part 1, however part 2 manifested after flashing Revolver. It has not resurfaced with his latest version so I will chalk it up as a bug.
I grouped my questions together for simplicity rather than posting two new topics. Fair enough?
Leerobson- thanks for the app suggestion.
I have done the manual ICS update 4.04 that was recently released in the general section of the forum, and I noticed that the memory is much lower compared to 2.3.6. The memory averages around 50MB, sometimes 100MB, and showing used memory around 285MB. I was wondering if this is normal as some of my games force closes after i start to play. the games uses quite of bit of my phone's resources and was working perfectly on 2.3.6. Also, i use the GO Launcher EX and i tried not using the launcher, but it only frees up little bit of memory. My phone is not rooted, everything is stock of course. I was wondering if anyone else has the same or similar problems? or is this normal in terms of the ICS OS using more memory?
anyone knows????
Give me a list of what services are running and how much ram they're using. This is done through settings > apps > running.
The same is the case with my phone. Sadly thats a compromise for ICS, you have to install custom rom to free up more memory.
I had the same problem at first .
you have to install a ROM+KERNEL that support BIGMEM.
I use Pixel Rom 1.72+ Airkernel 3.9.5, I now have 180mb+ with many programs running. its super fast/stable

i was actually looking into that ROM and kernel. How is it in terms of performance and battery life. I'm looking for a ROM and Kernel that increases both lol.
Also right now it says 292MB used and 46MB free. the processes running are settings (34MB), go weather (4.9MB) go launcher ex(34MB), go sms pro(7.5MB), go switch widget (4.1MB), google services (8.5MB), android keyboard (11MB)
Also for extra info, here is cached processes:
go weather (4.8MB) launcher (14MB), media (5.1MB), my uploads(3.4MB), package access helper (3.5MB)
in total, including cached processes, 134.8 MB used
You're sure that is everything that is being shown in the two pages? If so, it looks like something in the background likes eating RAM and doesn't want to share.
Regardless, could you download terminal emulator or something similar (or just use adb shell) and type: "ps > /sdcard/ps.txt" and upload/copypaste the file/contents. It's not a particularly great way of figuring out memory usage but i can probably make do and see if something is wasting it. I know on a fresh boot i have much more lying around in the cache than that, without opening any apps - mostly google sutff.
E.g., 24MB launcher, 11mb core apps, 15mb maps (and more in running), 36mb play store and so on. Although currently on ~402mb bigmem, i don't remember it being much less before - still 200mb used (as always) and cache is generally filled to the brim.

Hi. I have the same memory problem, i created the ps.txt. I don't know how to read this txt..
What does mean these things :
USER PID PPID VSIZE RSS WCHAN PC NAME
What are ppid, vsize, rss wchan??
Envoyé depuis mon Nexus S avec Tapatalk
PID -> Process IDentifier -> Wiki for more info
Vsize -> Virtual Size -> RAM usage (SWAP + Physical)
RSS -> Residential Set Size -> RAM usage (Physical only)
wchan -> Some waiting indicator, never looked into it
I just want a detailed list of what processes are using up the RAM. Basically i'm looking for something with excessively high RSS and just comparing it with my phones results.

that is all it shows. Here is the ps.txt file. Thank you for your help
Too sleepy (and mentally deprived) at the moment to give a good answer. I would, however, try ditching go launcher altogether (preferably uninstall, hopefully not too much trouble) for a little while and see if it gets better. I can't tell for sure without better memory analyzers but it is possible golauncher has gone haywire (or maybe not, trial and error ).
If not this, i notice there are many kcryptd processes going on. To my knowledge that is kernel based but i know not what it does or what it's for, did you encrypt the phone by any chance? I havn't run stock in too long to remember how the ps list was. I should be able to give a better, more thorough answer tomorrow regardless though.
edit: also, i've attached my own ps log for reference. We're talking around 205mb used and 197mb free when that log was taken. Have a look. Note that RSS (all in kB) can be shared, so that 20mb from each go launcher process may well be the same ~20mb between all of them which they all have access to, so it's not 100mb+ used, just ~20mb.
I'm pretty sure I haven't encrypted anything, is there a way to find out what has been encrypted? I have removed go launcher ex and the themes. Will now see how the memory is, in the meantime, go sleep Harbb lol.

You would know if your phone was encrypted

Wow I'll have to try that pixelrom and airkernel for sure (especially since I just recently rooted for the first time a couple days ago).
The miniscule account of RAM we have on our phones to play with is literally my only complaint about my Nexus S. If I could seriously UP the free/available RAM like ismailham says, I'd be falling in love with my phone all over again!

Only if they can't get into bootloader, and generally in that case Samsung can't either

Definitely non issue. Done it to send mine for repair for a failing BGA, it was near painless. The biggest "trouble" was removing CWM and SU to make it look stock.

Hello there fellow members,
First of all, the thread's title is for SEO purposes only so if anyone else runs into the same problem with this phone and start Googling for a solution this will come up.
The issue I have is really basic, I went through all the threads but I couldn't find a trivial solution for this. So I flashed my P920 (again) with V30A (it was a nightmare with all the unbricking process and whatnot, lol) everything is fine except one thing. This is when I play music and turn off the screen it starts lagging almost immediately. I am pretty sure it's about the CPU clock speed scaled below to 200Mhz or something, but I can't figure it out how to change this.
I have downloaded Trickster Mod but there are only two options I can set; the min and the max CPU speed. I've tried other apps as well, no luck. There's no option to set the CPU frequency when the screen is off. Sure it's a good way to save battery but really annoying when it comes to playing music.
I'm not sure if it's the ROM, maybe the kernel (i'm that kind of guy who can make these things work but I have really no idea what is really going on with linux based systems)
Here are my system specs;
ICS 4.0.4
OMAP4430/XMM6260
Kernel 3.0.21
P92030a-EUR-XX
I also have TWRP recovery installed and full root access on my phone.
I appreciate if anyone of you can point me to the right direction what to do with this.
(oh, one more thing please; let me ask you a bit off-topic somehow according to this; ever since I upgraded from Froyo, somehow I feel this fantastic phone a bit slow. It's not as responsive with ICS as it used to be with Froyo, I don't know I would say it's something like when you have a fairly old PC with WinXP and it runs pretty well but once you upgrade it to Win7 it's still okay but not that "lightning fast" when it was with XP. So yeah, maybe it's the old hardware - new software case that I'm "feeling" but 2.2 was definitely better (in terms of speed) when these latest operating systems available for P920).
Just Try flashing a custom kernel!
