HP 614c problem - General Questions and Answers

Hello.
I have this device for more than two years and after changing sim card it wont boot. It was stuck at Windows Mobile boot picture which after waiting went black. After allot of rebooting (including clean reboot) sometimes it started up but was slowed down like snail. I was able to update it from OS-v1.00.03 to OS-v1.01.04 and from FW-v0.81 to FW-v0.88.
After that it boot up more often but is still awfully slow. Now I was trying to find update to wm6.5 hoping this would help but with no success (factory recovery didn't work either).
I am out of ideas what to do to get it running back again. Can someone give me directions what to do (if this is even possible to fix)?
Edit01:
I have been able to upgrade to "23562 Beta 37 by kioeved". After upgrading, first boot stopped at Windows boot screen. After few rebooting system started (slowed down) barely. I am getting feeling that this is hardware problem but I don’t know how to determine that.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
I take it to service and they send it to HP. After a month I received new device free of charge. I have upgraded to wm6.5 nad it looks good.

HP Ipaq h6315 Will not go into the OS - Freezes on bootup!

Hey guys!
While working on my PPC this weekend, I noticed that the system froze while just trying to open NYDITOT Virtual Display.
I tried doing a soft reset and after doing so the system freezes at the "Welcome to T-Mobile" bootup screen and it does not go into the OS (windows Mobile 2003 "Non-SE")
I tried pushing the soft reset button with the device OFF, without the battery, without the sim card, and nothing seems to work.
I cant even re-load the original ROM as Active Synch doesnt see the device due that I dont get into the OS.
Now luckely for me, T-mobile advised that i only had a 3 month warranty with them, which of course "expired" so i was hoping someone could suggest something that might help me resolve this problem.
Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Touch Pro crashed - needed hard-reset to recover

Has anyone experienced their TP crashing during normal operation, and found the only way to recover is through a hard reset?
That's what happened to me last night. I'm running a stock HTC ROM that I upgraded when it came out (two weeks ago?) and the device was working without any problems up until then.
Last night though I was using Opera to browse a website and it suddenly became unstable. I closed Opera and found it wouldn't re-start so I performed a soft-reset. From this point on the device wouldn't go past the boot screen (displaying 'HTC Touch Pro' with the red version numbers - not even getting to the animation). I attempted to soft reset a few times (and even removed the battery for a while) but it still would not boot.
So I performed a hard-reset and restored a backup, whereupon it now seems ok again.
To give a little more info:
- the device was fully charged (had been on charge via USB all day)
- TF3D not installed - standard WM6.1 with SPB Phone Suite installed
- Browsing over wifi (bluetooth and HSDPA connection were also active)
- Running Opera 15613
- Just before the crash, a bug appeared whereby typing a single character into a website textbox (using the slide-out keyboard) would cause that character to be repeated a large number of times on screen - this has never happened before
I've always run the device with the stock HTC ROM and never had any issues like this.
Anyone had anything similar happen?
Yep, just had to hard reset then restore sprite...I was trying to play a song through tf3d and it froze. Soft reset only lead me up to the first screen that states radio version...yaddah yaddah yaddah...hard reset 'solved it'.
Does your phone got hot?
I had a problem while browsing over wifi. To boost the speed i changed power manegment to best performance in wifi settings and phone got hot in few minutes, opera crashed and soft reset didn't help either. But for me removing betery solved the case and also cooling the device a little.
hope this helps

It gets warm sometimes, however in this case I'd only been using the device for a few minutes, so I think it was still cold.
I tried removing the battery but that didn't help.
Seems to be behaving itself since then though.
I got the same problem nearly every day. After a few hours (up to 12) it gets frozen. Only hardreset was possible. I got this problem since a view months. I'm trying now to leave one after another program not installed after every necessary hardreset. Currently i'm suspecting either WM6.5 itself, vAlert or some other mortscript apps. For now i don't installed vAlert and there is no crash since over 24 h.
The following programs are innocent:
- tf3d
- pointui
- SmsReportsEraser
Surprisingly enough, I had the exact same problem just the other day. I got my TP about two weeks ago and was still looking around here learning the ropes of flashing etc and the differences between it and the Mogul. I kinda liked the business card reader that came on the stock rom and couldn't find it as a cab anywhere so I was undecided on flashing a new rom. I also didn't like the TF3d so I wasn't running it. I was using the regular win today screen with spb weather and Phone Suite installed. Worked fine like that for over a week. I got a text message on Tuesday and the TP froze up, so I did a soft-reset. It got frozen on the boot screen just as you described. Fortunately I was able to in hard-spl from the micro disk to unlock it, then I installed NFSFAN's custom rom, also from the micro disk.
Not related to the topic, but I really like how that new rom functions. I added the telus radio as well and now the battery at least makes it through the work day. Before I had to charge it mid day! Only thing I miss is that stupid business card program from the stock rom. If anyone can point me to a cab I'd really appreciate it. I get so many cards its a pain to enter them all manually.
Thanks,
PhilyT
I just started having this problem a couple of days ago. This has happened twice now. Warm-booting did start the reset process (I would get the splash screen), but it never got past that.
i think theres a thread about this somewhere. The cause isnt known but they are trying to pinpoint the problem. Bad rom chip, software problem etc
I've also have been affected by this and its a pain... having to setup the device again.
Mainly this problem has to do with tf3d2 in my case as i try to save a contact each time it will free. So i have to manually enter a phone number and store it.
I guess its better than a hard-reset

Internal Memory Corrupting Itself?

Starting in the past week, my Fuze starts acting weird (symptoms include contacts not showing up, apps giving weird error messages, recently opened programs fail to appear), so I do a soft reset. It doesn't want to boot though. It freezes on the screen that says "Preparing your device for first use", or sometimes it goes all the way to the "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile device". After going through the initial setup, all my settings and data in the internal memory are gone.
I thought this was a problem with the ROM I recently flashed (EnergyRom 3.0, the WinMo 6.5 one) so I flashed back to the EnergyRom 2.0 one (WinMo 6.1, was using it before without any problems, but flashed to a newer build). It's still happening so I'm guessing it's not the ROM. I'll try flashing to a different ROM anyway, but I'm skeptical it'll do anything.
Any suggestions on what to do? I bought the phone off eBay, and I'm in Canada, but if I could get it to an AT&T store, is there any chance they can do an exchange? Hopefully it won't have to come to that...

broken Touch Pro?

Hy,
I ve got the problem that suddenly my TP shows unusually hanging after a few minutes playing around. If i do a softreset then it hangs on the splash screen and nothing happens. I can do a hr then and the same story begins. After tast appeared i flashed some other roms to be sure that its not depending from the rom. Also i restored different backups, with all its the same... i fear that a part of the memory is defect ... Any ideas how to test the memory or other suggestions? thx in advance.... i dont want to use my microwave

Did this happen suddenly or did you do something before it happened (eg install something, etc)?
Mine just today won't turn on, I had it off all day and now it just sits on the splash screen.
Trying some things, if I figure anything out I'll let you know.
No, i didnt do anything special today or yesterday, but a week ago i set it up completly new, cause i had equal problems.... to set it up completly new with all progs and cosmetic "operations" costs me nearly one week so i dont want to do it again ...
If i find a way to solve, i will post here too

I flashed EnergyROM (booted into the tricolor screen by holding down Power and Volume Down), and it seems to be working.
Youre the lucky one, congrats...
I have a similar problem. The only change/new install is the updated version of Microsoft MyPhone. Now my TP will not connect to my telephone provider: T-Mobile. It just tries and tries but never connects.
Also, sometimes when I try to open any program, I get the error message that the certificate cannot be read. a soft reset fixes this but this problem is driving me crazy.
Is this another Microsoft update ****up?
same here: today more than 3 times problems with certificate or similar message ... thinking of the last timebomb in my old romeos rom ... was no fun..
Borisku,
Are you running Microsoft MyPhone? If so, did you do the software update within the past 4 days?
i do, but i didnt update ... ??? This morning my TP hung again, and i tried to sr it.... seemed to work until tp vibrates 3 times and then nothing anymore, no screen, no button, nothing
.... took out battery, left it out for 30 minutes, then i could HR again and restore my backup... since then no problems.... do you think it could run too long, getting too hot or something like this??

Boris..
Edit: was too fast just 1 minute after i wrote that, tp hangs while in connection to active sync.... hr now, will test how it runs with pure romeos2 for 2 days now... rport follows
Edit II: The last days i always flashed from SD Card... i will now try to flash ROMEoS2 from PC ... maybe theres a difference, especially cause the text at the end of flashing from SD was confused. there were mor than one words at one place one the screen, and i found i typing on the screen RaphSimg.nbh, although the file is named as usual raphimg.nbh (without the "s" in the centre...)
I hope i m not too early: i think i solved the prob, maybe that helps somebody & prevents a tp from ending in a microwave
in preparing to bury my tp in the microwave i flashed back to the german stock rom or - correct - to the official update that can be loaded from the HTC Homepage; it contains not only the Rom but also radio & Splash Screen. I flashed it to my tp and was prepared to undo Hard SPL, but it gave it a chance.... and it ran like a VW beetle, flashed back to ROMeOS2, it runs.... i will wait till tomorrow & hope that it will not change to freeze or change clock Font colour partly as it did before...
Hope it will help somebody...

Boris
Edit: its now 14th of december and it runs like a charm... seems like the failure is gone through flashing to stock ROM & then flashing ROMeOS again
Still is okay ...

[Q] Phone not switching on

Hi,every time my phone switches off and I try and switch it back on it just goes straight to the fastboot screen. Pressing the reboot just brings me back here. Doing a factory reset does exactly the same thing, and does not reset. It has been doing it for a while now, and if i reboot enough times it eventually reboots normally, and functions fine until I run out of battery or something, then it takes ages to get it up and running again.
I haven't unlocked it in any way, it's completely stock. Htc are trying o get me to install an update, but as soon as it starts to install it switches off, and goes straight to the fastboot screen.
It's driving me mad, and is obviously just outside the warranty period.
Any help or advice on what to try would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Tom
I had the same problem a year ago but was still on warranty then, so I sent it in. When they returned it to me, there was no sign of them having opened up the phone so I guess it can be fixed software-side, but I'm not sure. You could probably try flashing a fitting RUU in fastboot and see if that fixes your problem (I guess that was what HTC has done when my device showed a similar behavior). Just be sure you're on the right version, as KitKat e.g. has a new partition layout and this could lead to problems with your phone not booting up properly.
Is your phone unbranded? What version are you currently on (Android, hboot)?
