Froyo Android Market Unlock - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Ok, since not everyone is using CM6 on an EVO I thought I'd share this outside that thread.
This should allow the Market to show the missing (protected) apps on Froyo. I've implemented it for the Gapps FRF91 Hdpi pack for now. Any HDPI Devices with deodexed Roms using this should work with this fix. It may work with other HDPI releases, but I've only tested it on FRF91 w/ CM6.
Wipe Market Data/Cache......Settings>>Applications>>Manage Apps>>ALL>>Market
Reboot Recovery
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Flash "MarketUpdateFroyoHdpi.zip"
Reboot
Accept Market Terms
On the off chance this borks your Market, just reflash your rom or the the Gapps pack.
If any other Froyo Markets have this problem, it shouldn't be too hard to implement the same fix.
Mirror: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QIBIFHBM
If it doesn't work with your device/rom please specify both so that it will be easier to diagnose.
Big thanks to kallt_kaffe for leading me in the right direction.

It could be I've done something wrong, but this isn't working for me using Sapphire 0.7.0 (from droid-life) on my Droid (the original ). I've tried 2x (especially after finding where to do the dalvik cache wipe in clockwork) with installing it as an update.zip and just installing it as-is. I've been testing by trying to get comic strips back installed on my phone and app brain keeps telling me that mileage has an update though my phone doesn't agree.

I looks like that is using a different Google Apps version. I'll dl and try to patch it for you.

Here, give this a shot. Should work for all FRF84B Builds.
I don't have a device to test on, but this should do it.

does this work with g1 32b cm6

I'm not sure. I'd guess the g1 is an mdpi device though. If the mdpi market is locked (didn't think it was), I could apply the same fix. Also, is this for cdma or gsm?

Hi.
Great work!!!
I got it working with the MDPI version.
I just copied classes.dex from your fix to cyanogen's gapps-mdpi-FRF91-3.zip and I got Market unlocked.
If it's ok, can you share your secret/patch technique?

Did not appear to work for Acer Liquid Froyo. Still have problems accessing certain apps that I used in 2.1 ( AutoHTN Beta for example), APPBrain sees the app, but can not access it through the market.

Hi there
What about Android 2.1.1?
my phone is Motorola XT720, anything for that?
also, How do you "Flash" the application in recovery mode
any way i can do this using adb?
thanks
Aous

G.O.T 2.2.1 released

G.O.T is proud to finally be in a position to present to you the 2.2.1 firmware files you have all been waiting for.
We have also finished our work on our OpenRecovery modification for this and previous builds.
Lets start with the Credits:
- The entire G.O.T theme for sticking with me during the past week and the numerous IMs/calls/chats we have had to get this done in time. I, personally, feel honored to work with you guys!!
- The great nadlabak and skrilax_CZ. None of this would have been possible without your continuous dedication and support. Nadlabak, go-go-go with your CM6 We are sure once you launch your new edition of CM6, our firmware will no longer be needed by the users!!!
- DAGr8 and -fufu-. Your ideas and cooperation with us (especially our coders/scripters) took our OR to a whole new level. As such, the incremental jump to V2 of the OR is all due to you guys.
- he_stheone64 for agreeing to “licence” his Theme “SummerBlues” to us as the new and improved G.O.T theme. Thank you so much.
- All the other help we had from the people that worked with us day and night and who would like to remain “silent” contributors. You know we owe you a lot!!!
Here is what you need to know:
a) Contrary to previous releases, we would strongly recommend you to use our GOT OR V2.0.
One of the first things you should do is use the “Fix 2.2.1 bugs” selection in the new OR 2.2.1 menu after you flash the sbf file.
This tweak will fix some of the issues with the generic sbf build such as dual USB notifications, replacing some stock Motorola applications such as the old launcher/mediagallery and adding the Wireless Tethering application.
DO NOT USE after installing the G.O.T. theme, as the services.jar is different between both versions. If you did it anyhow, simply install the G.O.T theme again.
b) The sbf firmware files are all modified by us including the vulnerable recovery, so you can flash and root straight away (same as with our previous releases)
c) If you flash the firmware, you might encounter a reboot after the first boot. This is normal and expected behavior, so do not be alarmed
d) We can only provide you with full sbf releases at this moment. We strongly recommend not to use any backup from 2.1 related kernels as you are bound to get into trouble. The best approach is to install the apps you need from the market, set up your accounts and customize your device by hand. This is the only way you can guarantee that any issues encountered are not due to an incompatible data/settings backup.
e) Performing and restoring nandroid backup from 2.1based kernels will result in a bootloop unless you use our G.O.T V2.0 OpenRecovery (or any other ORs that have been updated to V1.44 of skrilax_CZ base). The simple reason is that we have worked together with Skrilax_CZ as we, and him, encountered issues when trying to restore 2.1 based nandroid images on top of the flashed 2.2.1 firmware. We are very happy our cooperation with him was as good as it was, and as such be in a position to already have solved this issue at launch.
f) We are extremely proud to give to you the new G.O.T Theme for 2.2.1. Some of you may see the familiarities to the SummerBluesTheme of he_stheone64. There is a reason for it – we are proud to be able to announce that he_stheone64 has worked with us, and agreed, that his SummerBluesTheme is now the new G.O.T theme.
g) NOTE: On some devices, we have encountered that rooting directly after flashing without rebooting after the initial flash can bring some issues with RootExplorer not asking for root permissions. To be safe, reboot after flash so that the “welcome to milestone” menu comes up, set up the device in general, then reboot to recovery and root the device as well as apply our 2.2.1 tweaks with Launcher, Services.jar fix and Wireless Tethering app.
Testing experience from our team regarding features and functionalities:
- AGPS works reliably, no trouble found
- Bluetooth works reliably, no trouble found
- WLAN works as before, no trouble found
- GPRS/HSDPA data works fine, no trouble found
- Framelimit of 30fps lifted
- Kernel 2.6.32 includes and supports the generic 2.2 features known
- Tethering app (3G Hotspot) included, but did not work for us (network provider needs to support this feature failures). We don’t know whether this is possible with your operator, but we have included the wireless tethering app in the Stock 2.2.1 tweaks
- Market needs fixing to show protected apps, bug solved by using the G.O.T fingerprint of build.prop and market fix (provided in 2.2.1 menu)
- Overclocking works fine with the modified overclock2.2.apk written (2.2.1 overclock menu will install it)

[How To] Install The New GOT Update On Milestone
[Info/brainstorming] Compiling modules for the 2.6.32 test kernel
got it up and running and synched so far so good, quick question how do i install marketplace apps to the sd card I cant seem to see the option?
Overall speed wise its great. The theme is slick. Battery life will be tested. But my wifi will not work. It does not like my linksys 400n router. It refuses to connect, it will try then stop and say disabled. Help would be appreciated
Bravo G.O.T!
Anything special to install the OR 2.0? SBF flashed fine for me and phone works, but when i run the update.zip it just stays on the logo without going into open recovery =/
EDIT: nvm, forgot to copy OpenRecovery to the root of sdcard..
Just flashed.
But I have no idea what's "One of the first things you should do is use the “Fix 2.2.1 bugs” selection in the new OR 2.2.1 menu after you flash the sbf file. "
I've mirrrored them all on my server.
Happy downloading
Great News but i will have to wait, cause my Operator use 850MHz here in Brazil , Claro
And i dont want to loose 3G, if anyone in knows if its possible to save some items to replace i will be glad
I've been running it for the last 4 hours and so far so good! I have the cpu set to 900mhz any recommendations for the vsel speed?
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
After the initial sync with google everything went speedy.
Did the 2.2.1 fix before even setting up the phone.
I'm getting 1mbit more from my hsdpa (running 2.3mbit now, barely hit 1mbit before). Still way too low for hsdpa, but I suspect that's my carriers fault.
Rooting and theming (standard GOT CM6 theme). Very pretty.
But the phone seems sluggish for a few minutes after each bootup. I have not yet changed CPU speed.

You can use the Telus version. It's from Canada. I'm in Argentina and can connect with full speed 3G (HSDPA)
JUST REMEMBER to take note of your APN settings, alright?

both go straight to 1000mh and keep the stock vsel. aka 56vsel no point for the gaysh 900.
apps installer is crashing for me.
How do i install this Rom???
wlan doesnt work for me either. later i found a "dns fix" inside OR 2.2.1 mod menu but it didnt work as i thought it would. my HSPA works like charm tho. so i cant really say its a dns issue (or maybe it is, they might use different route table)
I'm feeling a little crazy so I'm currently at 1.33GHz / 1330MHz with a vsel of 88. If that is likely to kill my phone and / or fry the CPU I'd appreciate someone telling me but the highest available overclock with the Milestone Overclock app is 1200MHz and 80 vsel.
For those running the themed version can you throw a few screenshots up? I don't mind the stock version and I'm cautious about installing a theme without seeing any images.
How do you install the ROM? It's an SBF file so you need RSD Lite. Look at the thread about rooting your Milestone for details on how to use RSD Lite to flash your phone with the SBF file. It'll also tell you how to install OpenRecovery which is a similar process to installing the new recovery with this.

Using RSD Lite , same as with any official ROM from Motorola. It makes this installation pretty painless.
See here for a decent guide. Skip step 1, and in step 5 you choose the SBF from GOT.

Well, after a break, a lot of new OTA updates and such, and a lot of patience from most of you...here it is! I apologize for the wait and hope you find this release worth it. I still have to upload pics and such, they will be here soon.

Azrael X v5.0 by Ricsim78
To install on your Evo:
1. Copy the ROM zip file to the root of your SD card.
2. Shut off your phone and boot into recovery.
3. Do a full wipe (Data, cache, Dalvik, SD Ext.) Do it twice to be sure if you want to!
4. Install the ROM. It should take a few minutes to install.
5. Reboot the phone. It should take a long time to start up the first time. Please be patient!
6. If all goes well, enjoy your new ROM!
7. If not, start over from step 2 after pulling your battery.
To install a custom kernel: Let it boot all the way into the ROM first and then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the custom kernel and reboot. DO NOT install any MODS without letting the ROM load up without any addons first!
To install a theme: Let it boot all the way into the ROM first, then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the theme and reboot.
How to backup and restore using Titanium backup Here is the method I use to backup my phone information before I wipe and install a new ROM
I backup my entire phone with a batch "Backup all user apps + system data"
Wipe and install the new ROM,
I open Titanium Backup (TB) and give it super user rights.
I hit "Updates?" in TB and make sure I am running the latest.
I hit "Problems?" in TB and make sure I am using Busybox 1.60
Hit menu and select batch
Select "Backup all new apps + newer versions of apps", if any.
Select "Restore missing apps with data"
Go over the list and make sure you are restoring only what you want
Hit run batch operation
After it completes, go back into TB and backup restore.
Restore contacts twice
Restore MMS twice
Restore Mail twice
If any of the 3 above do not take, do it again
Restart your phone
Verify mail, MMS, and contacts restored. If not, restore again.
Why Amon RA and not Clockwork recovery?
Clockwork does not wipe the Dalvik properly (if at all). I personally have had nothing but problems with both Clockwork and ROM manager
I have said countless times that if you use either of the above, it is at your own risk. Install Amon RA recovery and I bet any wiping/installing problems will go away.
If you already are using ROM manager, pick the option to install a custom recovery, choose Amon RA 1.8. If that option is greyed out, reinstall the latest Clockwork then install RA.
Note: Do not do a fix permissions with anything unless you need to, you can screw stuff up that way.
Trust me, the new ROM is devoid of problems (I have never tested a ROM this much before releasing it). If you experience any, it is either something you are doing wrong or incomplete wipes thanks to your recovery not doing it's job properly.
Which kernels work with this ROM?
Any that are designed for a Sense ROM. This includes:
Netarchy's
Kingclick's
Hero Over's
Ziggy's
HTC's
Which kernel do you recommend to use?
I cannot recommend a kernel for you because each EVO reacts different. The best for my phone can be the worse for yours.
You have to try the different ones available and pick the one that works best for you. What I do is start with their latest and work your way down until you find one that works well. Then stick with it.
This also goes for overclocking, SetCPU settings, etc.
With the new Hardware 0004 Evo phones, a custom kernel may or may not break the camera and video recording features. Make sure to test them before you head out.
Which themes work with this ROM?
Themes make your phone look nice but can also add problems to an otherwise smooth running ROM. You can use any theme you wish, but Nandroid first and if anything is broken, please do not blame the ROM as it is the theme that added the problem.
You definitely need to install a theme that works with a Gingerbread based ROM. DO NOT load an older theme (for older OTA's, for example 3.70, 3.30 or 3.29) as the framework files are different.
Always Nandroid before using a custom theme. Once you load up the theme, verify no problems are present that were not there before you installed the theme. If there is, keep the theme and either live with the problem, or fix it if you can. If not,be sure to let the maker of that particular theme aware that it is not working with Azrael ROM. They may be glad to help and you are helping them make their theme more compatible.

3.30.651.2 (and subsequently 3.30.651.3) is 100% designed for newer Evo manufactured in November.
These Evos are hardware number 0004 and have a different camera chip and some other changes to the framework of the ROMS to accommodate this new hardware. HTC threw us ROM makers a curve ball!
You can use 3.30.XXX.X on an older Evo, but you can experience the following problems (some of which I personally witnessed on my own 0003 Evo):
Fast battery drain
3rd party camera apps having trouble working
Speed descreased a bit. (My new Azrael ROM is faster than my new Omega ROM on my phone, though they are identical besides the base).

Ahhhh! And I was just going to ask you ric why the base change, my Evo is hardware #0003 too.
I have heard of reports of 0003 having the new camera chip
Has the 3.30 base been definitely pinpointed as the cause of the rapid battery drain? I trust you and your Rom that's why I am using it. I only ask because it seems as most devs here have updated their Rom to the new base and was curious what in the build would cause this? Thanks.

Best Guide!!!! How to Root and Install roms and GOT 2.2.1 AND ALOT MORE!

Hi All, This is an All-in-one thread with available roms (for both Eclair and GOT 2.2.1 leak), how to root + apply roms for GOT 2.2.1 Leak, petitions, projects, etc. Please read everything carefully and good luck
(SCROLL DOWN FOR LIST OF ROMS, PETITIONS, ETC!)
Disclaimer: I am not responsible if anything happens to your device. Please read the whole text over before applying roms. Use at your own risk.
It is strongly recommended that you wipe data + cache + dlavik (may not be spelled right) cache before applying ANY roms.
Also, make sure to have vulnerable recovery and root installed (I do not think you need vulnerable recovery for 2.1 BUT ROOT IS NEEDED) However it is acquired, root is needed.
Also, MAKE SURE YOU NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING TO YOUR DEVICE!!! GOOD LUCK
How-To Root (On GOT 2.2.1) (All the files were taken straight from the GOT homepage)
Note: Please, make sure your device is fully charged before you attempt to do this!
The following files all have vulnerable recovery pre-installed:
DACH – GERMANY :

DACH AUSTRIA :

UK RETAIL (RTUK) :
http://www.multiupload.com/60B78PRKNY
TELUS CANADA :
http://www.multiupload.com/5S2CYGP3VW
Download the file according to where you live.
Now, you must install RSD Lite (taken from http://tinyurl.com/3xg5xwj):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N1MPCX1U
mirror: http://www.multiupload.com/jw25luksh2 (not tested by me, found from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983516 thanks nagi603 and eXtink please report in comments if it works!)
I'm pretty sure you may have to install the drivers for your device, a simple google may help. - This may be required.
Next, open RSD Lite and click the "..." and navigate to the file you have downloaded above.
Next, plug in your phone in bootloader mode. To do this, turn your phone off, then hold the power button, the top volume button and the camera button at the same time. Then you should enter bootloader mode. It should say Bootloader at the top. Make sure, at the bottom it says "Battery OK". Please, make sure you have fully charged your device! Then click the start button. Wait for a while.
Once its booted, plug the device into your computer via usb, then go to memory card access. Then go to the root of the sd card (on your computer)
Now, download and OR (For this tutorial, I will be using Androidani 3.3, the link is a the bottom).
In the rar file there should be two things. One should be a folder named "OpenRecovery" (Note: Make sure thats the file name!) and an update.zip file. Next, put the OpenRecovery folder in the root of your sd card. (If you have never used an OR before, you should NOT have to replace anything!) Also put the update.zip in the root of your sd card.
Next, turn the phone off. Now, while turning your phone on, (THIS MAY NOT WORK FOR SOME PEOPLE) hold the camera and power button until you see the M logo, then release the power button but keep holding the camera button. You should see a caution sign. Next, click the up button (on the volume rocker) and camera button after. Keep trying it if it doesn't take you to a menu. Next, slide out your keyboard then using the d-pad navigate to "apply update.zip" and click the middle button. Once its applied, you should have a bigger, longer menu. Then navigate to root phone in the new menu. Once this is done, you should be rooted.
How to apply custom roms:
Now that you have root and an OR (Open Recovery), turn on your phone and plug it into your computer in memory card access. (Or, you can navigate to the OR [By above method] and click memory card access, it should be the first or second option in the menu)
Once you are at the root of your sd card, go to OpenRecovery folder, then click updates. After that, put a rom that is an UPDATE (Some roms are not, some can be nandroid backups. It should specify on thread) For example, as of now, cyanogen mod by kabaldan is an update.
If the rom is a nandroid backup (Again, it should specify on thread) (For example, as of now, MotoFroyoSense is a nandroid backup), then navigate to the root folder then go to nandroid folder and click one of the folders within the nandroid folder (any, it doesn't matter) and put the nandroid backup (AS A FOLDER, not rar) and finally, turn off your phone.
Then navigate back to the OpenRecovery menu and click updates (if its an update rom) and click it, or if its a nandroid, navigate to nandroid then nandroid restore, and restore the rom.
Remember to wipe before you apply any roms!
Now, as an addition, here are all the roms available for milestone! They can be found in a cleaner thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11593755#post11593755

Good work. A newbie can find out what he wants and where to go from this thread.
Miui ROM original site is miui.com ( Chinese Developers ). There is also miui-dev.com ( Run by Markhuk ). Then there is Lalit's MOD.
I would suggest to also add a section that deals with HOW TO , like how to nandroid / how to get your phone to stock etc.
There is the european froyo leak, its in the general forum.
Thanks

I read somewhere, someone put a file with all the moto apps, does anyone knows where?
What does one has to do to get the MotoCam working on any rom?
I know i've asked this in another thread, but i wanna know! I prefer that cam!

Hi, it may be possible to extract to other roms. However, it is included in this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929646. For best results, I would use the nandroid backup created by sileshn
Edit: Honestly, I prefer that camera over the one that is found in Cyanogen 6, FroyoMod, etc. I too would like to find out if someone can use this camera instead of the one found in other roms.

Thanks, and please press the thanks button. Also, to overclock, just go to google, search milestone overclock and find the google project one and download the apk. YOU MUST HAVE ROOT!! Good luck Or, for more experienced members, just use the option in Androidani 3.3 (There should be one)
Just a question. I live in South Africa, and I got my Milestone here. If I check my version with the motorola software update application it just tells me I have a Motorola Global phone. So which vulnerable recovery will I need to download? Also, how will this affect my baseband versions etc?
I am currently running the latest stock Eclair on my Milestone, and found this thread as the most thorough instructions available. I am new to android flashing, but not new to phone flashing.
So, basically in order to upgrade to the Cyanogen mod, i would need:
1. Download this for vulnerable recovery (same as open recovery?) UK RETAIL (RTUK)
2. Install it via RSD Lite
3. Wipe everything in the data + cache + dlavik folders on my phone. (do I have to wipe the SD card at any point?)
4. Install Cyanogen Mod via open recovery
Did I get this right? Did i miss something? Thanks!
Is there are a step I should pay extra attention to in order to not screw up my phone?
Thanks and sorry for being such a newb.

If I were you, I would update to GOT 2.2.1 as the vulnerable recovery is already there. You would just flash using rsd lite (link in first post) I am not sure if any drivers were required. To be on the safe side, I would google (34 bit or 64 bit) windows xp, vista or 7 motorola milestone drivers depending on which one you have. I had drivers when I did this. I will try to find links when I have time. I would flash the according GOT 2.2.1 leak and use androidani 3.3 OR to I install basebands if they are the wrong one. It is really eqsy to root and install roms on milestone with this. I would just use my tutorial to install got 2.2.1 and install cyanogen mod 6.1.2 (best experience for me).
Good luck

[ROM][Updated 10/02/11] Higgsy_Modded_3.4.2_GB_Froyo_RC2

Update 10/02/11:
For existing users of the ROM, flash the 2.2GB_NoCG_31_39.sbf (Link below). This will flash the rest of the ROM apart from the part that stops the ROM from being downgradable and system - Don't worry your ROM will be as it was before after flashing - you won't loose any data.
##CAN PEOPLE POST WHETHER THEY ARE HAVING GTALK/MARKET ISSUES PLEASE## Please also post if it is working ok for you
Back up after needing to sort out a few niggles and an issue with the rom including my Titanium backup license key. Now RC2.
Higgsy Modded 3.4.2 GB Froyo for Motorola Defy.
Fully working, no niggles ROM. Everything works. Its a blank canvas, All social networking blur stuff removed, some widgets, some other stuff.
Included:
Launcher Pro
Milestone Overclock
Titanium Backup
Widgetsoid2
Clockworkmod Recovery
Es File Explorer
Also:
Deodexed
Rooted/Busbox (Busybox installed in /system)
Over clock Script included with following freq/vsel 1000/52, 600/36, 300/26. (milestone overclock is not loaded as default - just go in and load module and set to apply on boot then forget about it)
Install process - this must be followed to the last letter - there is no variation so please don't ask.
If you have already followed the process to get onto a downgradable base, (i.e. you already flashed RC1, or, you followed the other thread Here then all you need to do is boot into clockworkmod, wipe data/cache and restore this. It will wipe everything again, sorry about that.
I never flashed a non downgradable .sbf before, such as 2.51 Eclair, or the GB/US Froyo, so can't vouch for whether it will work correctly on peoples devices that have done that, you should however just be able to flash the system/image if you've already got a 3.4.2 froyo base. If you have never either recieved the phone/flashed one of the undowngradable .sbfs, this process will ensure you keep you downgradibility.
Files Needed to complete This:
2.2 Chinese .sbf(Unzip the .sbf from the archive)
Higgsy_Modded_3.4.2_GB_Froyo_RC2 (Unzip and put folder in the sdcard/goapkrev/backup folder)
Superoneclick Root
Clockworkmod Recovery
2.2GB_NoGG_31_39.sbf(Unzip the .sbf from the archive)
1)Make a backup of all your apps with Titanium backup on your current ROM.
2)Boot into Stock recovery (Power On/Vol Down, then press bottom right hand corner of the screen when you see the warning sign) Then perform a data wipe.
3)Using RSD Lite flash the 2.2 Chinese ROM (Guide Here if you need it!)
4)Once the phone has rebooted, skip set up, root via superoneclick and then install clockworkmod recovery/apply.
5)Boot into Clockworkmod Recovery and wipe data/cache
6)Now got to backup/restore and restore the Higgsy_Modded_3.4.2_GB_Froyo.
6)Important! Once the restore is complete pull the battery, as you are reconnecting the battery hold volume up, so that it goes straight into bootloader.
7)Once in bootloader flash the 2.2GB_NoCG_31_39.sbf by RSD Lite
8)Once the above is completed it should reboot and you are done
PLEASE READ:
I don't recommend restoring settings via titanium backup, only apps/app data, in the past I have done this and found it problematic. I suggest to redo your settings manually.
If you want to use setvsel (as it now works fine with froyo) you need to remove the setscaling scripts I put in for overclock and also milestone overclock. Setscaling scripts are located: /system/xbin/setscaling.sh + /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
If you report a bug I need to know what roms /things you have flashed before, there are too many variables, most notably if you been on non downgradable roms
Enjoy!!!
Thanks go to:
Sorensiim - Hosting all my files
mcm_xyz - for the haptics fix
Bizzaboy - for info on updating media profiles, so improving video recording
Authors of all the apps included in here, donate or buy the full versions they are worth it!
Further updates I intend to release as update.zip's, looking at themes, bugfixes (even though there aren't any that I can find) etc etc...... Please don't pester me for these, I do it as a hobby and sometimes don't have time for days to do things.
Change log:
03/02/11
RC2 release
Removed my TI Backup license that I had inadvertently included
Removed various info from the data.img, that I believe could have been cuasing some of the niggly issues people were having.

Hey higgsy, i didn't flash your ROM yet but i have a question
At the moment I have a Defy which is on 2.34, and I didn't upgrade yet because i NEED a downgradable ROM (for warranty reasons, the DE version is still at 2.21)
now thanks to your tutorial, i can upgrade to froyo while being able to downgrade to the official 2.21 if needed, but here's my question:
what happens if i nand restore a different ROM based on the 3.42 UK rom (like HandlerExploit's upcoming Vanilla version), will I still be able to downgrade?
(e.g. does restoring a backup WITHOUT flashing a new sbf make your device undowngradable?)

Its flashing the sbf what locks you out of being undowngradable. simply restoring a system and/or data partition should not cause an issue. Ask the authors of the other ROMs, I can't comment on what effect there releases will have on your phone.

Screens are pointless mate, its a blank canvas there is no theming etc. the screens in my 2.2 CN thread are pretty much the same
Looks nice,
so far running very smooth every thing ive tested and works well as far as i can tell!!
although I cannot got into recovery just get a black screen
Overall very nice cheers!!
Duh! I just flashed the uk rom posted by iaio72. I just realize it is not deodexed and i *must* (must?) replace that statusbar. If i understand correctly, it is not possible to theme odexed roms, right? Do you think i can just flash your system image or may this raise some issues ?
Higgsy, first of all thanks you very much for this rom, but I have a "little" problem. With a clean nandroid and with your, I have problems with gmail notification and "google talk connection problem" (don't know how is exactly writen, I have in another language)
what can be?
Edit: Just say: "Google Talk failed to login. If this is a google Apps account, confirm that Chat service is enabled for this account."

Just a blind guess: you did disable usb debugging before booting into recovery, right? This is mandatory for froyo (don't know why though).
Another, market is not the new.
Edit: Now is up to date, it just didn't want to update, or install app. Removed data and restarted. Somebody know something about the other issue?
If I already followed the safe upgrade to 3.4.2, it should be good enough to simply do a nandroid restore and flash devtree again, right? I so want to get rid of blur
Camera not working!
Everything run smooth but the camera is not working.
if i'm already on 2.51 (it came stock), how do I go about flashing this froyo release?
Can anyone help? thanks.
Hi, Thanks for the good work
I've the same problem with Talk, authentification problem...
I've another problem with the LED from camera doesn't work.
Any idea?
gratias mate, for your work.
I had the blur-UK ROM installed, so I was able to restore your system.img only. Non of my data got lost and it's running smooth on your deblured version

New Purchase, best stable upgrade?

Hey all, buying an XT720 today.
Looking to get it up from 2.1
What is the most stable update at the moment?
I have done CM 6.1 on a HTC Dream, was pretty happy with it.. would like to get up to 2.3 on this..
Suggestions? I am using Wind Mobile in Canada for this phone if it makes a difference.
James
Hi
Their are choices cm6 is very stable
I would try flfalcon cm7.
Their are J.Y.Daddy cm7 these were made for the motorio to use these you would need to apply bootfix.
J.Y.Daddy even ported miui ics 4.01.
You need check out the development page.

I also have a list of most of the ROMs and their +/-'s. Ill find the link and post it. I'm mobile now so can't find it that way.
Im on wind also and i truthfully find bravo the best.... everything is really stable and HD cam and whatnot works
Here is a somewhat dated list but a list nonetheless and here is the thread it came from.

There are a host or ROMs for this phone right now and it is quite hard to narrow down to "The Best". Each as their own +/-'s and while one might be a monster in speed, it might have poor muti-tasking or bad camera. Here are some of the ROMs we have and some of the +/-'s they have (not all, just some +/-'s).
In no particular order other than the top came out first and bottom is the latest.
2.1 Stock - Came with the phone. You can falsh via RSDlite the sbf file for your region.
2.1 Stock~ESB (Eclair Strikes Back) - Same as above, but has aorking app2ext, camera, FM Radio. Still it is 2.1
Dexters 2.2 with MZ patch - First successful attempt to port 2.2 to our phones. All features of 2.2 but camera is sketch and FM radio doesn't work (unless you apply FJfalcon radio patch but then it is still loud), media button doesn't work.
Kahlpower's V2/3/4 - Optimized version of Dexters. Same issues as above but is more stable and generally was the choice as a "home" ROM for many users. I have my wife on this one as we speak. Low maintenance, a good everyday driver. Has App2ext/ Link2sd, native Froyo App2sd.
Cincinnati Bell's "official" 2.2 - More or less a glorified version of Dexters 2.2 but I think the Mioz7AE found a "listening" script that may or may not send info back to developer. I would stay away from this one. Plenty more to choose from.
Wanhu 2.2 (also Wanhu's Kahl's Optimized) - Korean port of 2.2. FM radio and camera does work. Number formatting is off. App2ext works fine as does native Froyo app2sd.
XDA Special/ Hellmonger Edition - This was moveing really well and then Hellmonger's phone crapped out on him and his carrier gave him an HTC Penache, so no more support for this one. But is DOES work and worth a try.
CM6 - our developer Mioze7Ae's masterpiece (for now until he moves on to something else) All the features of CM6, including themer. Has App2ext and Link2sd.
WIPs
Brianlili's Brovo 2.2 - This one is almost done, jsut a few little thing to finish it off.
JYDaddy's CM7 (nightly/ HoNo/ iceandfire...)
FJfalcon's CM7.1 (make massive progress daily on this one as it is being built from source).
Like I said there are +/-'s to each but the are all spelled out for you in the OP of each thread. Plus, unlike other phone forums, we actually answer your questions and dont respond with, "search".
Good luck and remember to always BACK UP.

Where is this Bravo??
Also I have rooted..
but I have not found a good guide on Openrecovery. (EDIT) got this done, went through ADB shell.
I unzip the the openrecovery to the sd card.. gives me openrecovery.zip a directory and an images directory.
SO then to flash a new rom I just put the .zip file in the updates directory.. and bingo bongo?
Going to try Cyanogenmod 7.1 first.. not sure where to find the brovo? bravo? mentioned.

Nandroid and battery
I just bought an XT720 (Rooted and unlocked)
Is there any way to change the battery level increments from 10% to something more exact like 5% and how do we create a Nandroid back up?
I also want to install bravo2.2 do I need to do a factory reset before installing this rom?
I am running stock rom 2.1
Well if its Rooted, then you should have Open Recovery on it.
When you boot the phone hold VOL up and it will boot in OR...
or when you power off.. it should give you the option to reboot into RECOVERY.
There are lots of threads on here about OR .. but if you follow the menus you should be fine.. on an XT720 you push the camera button (big one) to accept a selection in the OR menu.
You can back up - which will save EVERYTHING.. a Nandroid backup is the best thing to store away somewhere should you mess up your phone.
YES you will have to loose everything when switching from 2.1 to (anything else)
If you are just updating to a newer build of something you put on.. then no.
You do the RESET and clear caches etc.. in OR.
Do a search its all on here .. usually the first page of whatever rom you want to TRY.
Have fun.
James
Thanks for the reply, time to install some rom's
Hilarious...after wading thru a few hundred pages of replies on this phone and the various roms, I completely missed your thread here James which is about as close to what I'm trying to accomplish as imaginable..

Do you mind me asking James/BikerBob...how did you make out? Anything I should know (if you have a sec read my long winded post lol!)
Did you have 3G/Wifi switching issues with stock, or maybe you didn't bother testing that / noticed it..before rooting I mean..
thnks!

No, kernal(maybe driver) can't support 5% or 1% percentage battery level.
OK, so I decided that changing the SD card to a class 10 might help app usage ..
I copied the old sd card to the new one.. and if I try and get into OR .. I get the exclimation mark in triangle instead of the OR logo.
What do I need to do to get back into OR? do I need to RE-Root?
James
If you don't have it already, grab Mioze's modded OR for the xt720 & follow the instructions. If that's all you did was to switch sdcards there should be no need to redo everything.
Sorry, never mind the OR issue, my bad.
I have played with this too much.. lol.. get things mixed up..
I had the OpenRecovery.zip from one version mixed with the directory of the other..
Jezz
OR runs from the files on the sdcard (the openrecovery folder & openrecovery.zip) if something is corrupted (or missing) you wont be able to boot into OR.
