New Purchase, best stable upgrade? - Milestone XT720 General

Hey all, buying an XT720 today.
Looking to get it up from 2.1
What is the most stable update at the moment?
I have done CM 6.1 on a HTC Dream, was pretty happy with it.. would like to get up to 2.3 on this..
Suggestions? I am using Wind Mobile in Canada for this phone if it makes a difference.
James

Hi
Their are choices cm6 is very stable
I would try flfalcon cm7.
Their are J.Y.Daddy cm7 these were made for the motorio to use these you would need to apply bootfix.
J.Y.Daddy even ported miui ics 4.01.
You need check out the development page.

I also have a list of most of the ROMs and their +/-'s. Ill find the link and post it. I'm mobile now so can't find it that way.

Im on wind also and i truthfully find bravo the best.... everything is really stable and HD cam and whatnot works

Here is a somewhat dated list but a list nonetheless and here is the thread it came from.

There are a host or ROMs for this phone right now and it is quite hard to narrow down to "The Best". Each as their own +/-'s and while one might be a monster in speed, it might have poor muti-tasking or bad camera. Here are some of the ROMs we have and some of the +/-'s they have (not all, just some +/-'s).
In no particular order other than the top came out first and bottom is the latest.
2.1 Stock - Came with the phone. You can falsh via RSDlite the sbf file for your region.
2.1 Stock~ESB (Eclair Strikes Back) - Same as above, but has aorking app2ext, camera, FM Radio. Still it is 2.1
Dexters 2.2 with MZ patch - First successful attempt to port 2.2 to our phones. All features of 2.2 but camera is sketch and FM radio doesn't work (unless you apply FJfalcon radio patch but then it is still loud), media button doesn't work.
Kahlpower's V2/3/4 - Optimized version of Dexters. Same issues as above but is more stable and generally was the choice as a "home" ROM for many users. I have my wife on this one as we speak. Low maintenance, a good everyday driver. Has App2ext/ Link2sd, native Froyo App2sd.
Cincinnati Bell's "official" 2.2 - More or less a glorified version of Dexters 2.2 but I think the Mioz7AE found a "listening" script that may or may not send info back to developer. I would stay away from this one. Plenty more to choose from.
Wanhu 2.2 (also Wanhu's Kahl's Optimized) - Korean port of 2.2. FM radio and camera does work. Number formatting is off. App2ext works fine as does native Froyo app2sd.
XDA Special/ Hellmonger Edition - This was moveing really well and then Hellmonger's phone crapped out on him and his carrier gave him an HTC Penache, so no more support for this one. But is DOES work and worth a try.
CM6 - our developer Mioze7Ae's masterpiece (for now until he moves on to something else) All the features of CM6, including themer. Has App2ext and Link2sd.
WIPs
Brianlili's Brovo 2.2 - This one is almost done, jsut a few little thing to finish it off.
JYDaddy's CM7 (nightly/ HoNo/ iceandfire...)
FJfalcon's CM7.1 (make massive progress daily on this one as it is being built from source).
Like I said there are +/-'s to each but the are all spelled out for you in the OP of each thread. Plus, unlike other phone forums, we actually answer your questions and dont respond with, "search".
Good luck and remember to always BACK UP.

Where is this Bravo??
Also I have rooted..
but I have not found a good guide on Openrecovery. (EDIT) got this done, went through ADB shell.
I unzip the the openrecovery to the sd card.. gives me openrecovery.zip a directory and an images directory.
SO then to flash a new rom I just put the .zip file in the updates directory.. and bingo bongo?
Going to try Cyanogenmod 7.1 first.. not sure where to find the brovo? bravo? mentioned.

All ROMs and Mods are in the Dev thread.

I vote for CM6 RC3 / RC4
it's by far the most stable & fast which allows you to run most resources intensive games

Nandroid and battery
I just bought an XT720 (Rooted and unlocked)
Is there any way to change the battery level increments from 10% to something more exact like 5% and how do we create a Nandroid back up?
I also want to install bravo2.2 do I need to do a factory reset before installing this rom?
I am running stock rom 2.1

Well if its Rooted, then you should have Open Recovery on it.
When you boot the phone hold VOL up and it will boot in OR...
or when you power off.. it should give you the option to reboot into RECOVERY.
There are lots of threads on here about OR .. but if you follow the menus you should be fine.. on an XT720 you push the camera button (big one) to accept a selection in the OR menu.
You can back up - which will save EVERYTHING.. a Nandroid backup is the best thing to store away somewhere should you mess up your phone.
YES you will have to loose everything when switching from 2.1 to (anything else)
If you are just updating to a newer build of something you put on.. then no.
You do the RESET and clear caches etc.. in OR.
Do a search its all on here .. usually the first page of whatever rom you want to TRY.
Have fun.
James

Thanks for the reply, time to install some rom's

Hilarious...after wading thru a few hundred pages of replies on this phone and the various roms, I completely missed your thread here James which is about as close to what I'm trying to accomplish as imaginable..
I posted some of my saga over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399242
Do you mind me asking James/BikerBob...how did you make out? Anything I should know (if you have a sec read my long winded post lol!)
Did you have 3G/Wifi switching issues with stock, or maybe you didn't bother testing that / noticed it..before rooting I mean..
thnks!
(don't know if mods merge threads in this forum but mine is probably a candidate! sorry!)

No, kernal(maybe driver) can't support 5% or 1% percentage battery level.

OK, so I decided that changing the SD card to a class 10 might help app usage ..
I copied the old sd card to the new one.. and if I try and get into OR .. I get the exclimation mark in triangle instead of the OR logo.
What do I need to do to get back into OR? do I need to RE-Root?
James

If you don't have it already, grab Mioze's modded OR for the xt720 & follow the instructions. If that's all you did was to switch sdcards there should be no need to redo everything.

Sorry, never mind the OR issue, my bad.
I have played with this too much.. lol.. get things mixed up..
I had the OpenRecovery.zip from one version mixed with the directory of the other..
Jezz

OR runs from the files on the sdcard (the openrecovery folder & openrecovery.zip) if something is corrupted (or missing) you wont be able to boot into OR.

[ROM] Zen-ROM Updated 08-30-2010.

This is is based on gsm Hero ROM RCMIX18. It's like the Legend build but faster so you get all the newest Sense goodies like:
Friendstream
News/RSS Widget
Enhanced text selector in the browser.
Downloadable Sense widgets
Internet Connection Sharing
Native live wallpapers in Sense
Shake the phone to see homescreen thumbnails
Everything should be working if you flashed the Main ROM and the update except whats noted below.
Rules and Stuff
The first rule of zenroms is you don't ask for ETA's
Using ZenKernel #2 clocked at 691 set to ondemand
Download Maps from the Market
No you can't update your PRL
Don't ask about Sprint Visual Voice Mail
Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobil networks will force close if you select it. It happens on every gsm sense port.
Don't post about how you flashed this and went back to your other rom.
I like cyanogenmod too.
If you want to help then post real bugs with logcats. Not some generic response like "X app force closed"
Don't ask for this or that option. Updates will come as time permits.
Whats the point?
Second rule of zenroms. There is no point
You need to be rooted and have a custom recovery installed
Nandroid in case you want to go back to your other rom
Wipe everything before flashing: data/cache/sd-ext
The update will auto wipe just in case you didn't
For more up to date info and downloads visit http://zenroms.com

I will probably check this out, downloading now.
You using it yourself zen?
EDIT: Flashing now, screenies soon.
Setting up the phone wizard was pretty nifty! Tethering verified as working, wifi verified as working, all my apps showed up in the market. Initial boot took 6 minutes. I like how the flash deleted everything in case somebody forgets. On a side note I like that theres a progress bar when you start up the phone. No questions of a boot loop here. Man this thing is running smooth! Ive uploaded screenies of the stock home settings.

I may have to try this on my fiance's phone. I don't think I'm ready to give up Zen EXP. Thanks for providing two excellent options!

If you are rooted then download ROM Manager from the market and use either the Clockword recovery or my personal favorite the Amon Ra recovery.
Dowloand the ROM to the root of your SD card (saved to the SD card but not in any folder).
Turn off your phone, then power on while holding the volume down button. Press the home button when you get to the white screen with the Fastboot and recovery options. Select backup and create a nandroid backup. Then select wipe and factory wipe your phone (you will lose all saved data and settings).
Once you've wiped the select the Flash option and flash the ROM. Once the flash is complete select the reboot option and you'll be rocking the ROM of your choice.
You can download Titanium backup to backup your apps and data. I highly suggest reinstalling on market apps from Titanium, you do not want to attempt to reinstall any system apps or data.

Just when you have me fall in love with one ROM, you release another...
(but seriously, you rock)
What makes this ROM so much faster? I don't have time to try it yet, but if it is that much faster I will definitely use it.
Also, does this framework allow custom themes (such as Espresso?)

I've been running this for about 2 hours, it FLYS! Not much delay in messaging app either plus you get the extra htc widgets. I'll definatly be using this for a while. After install still had 150 app space left and it isnt even odexed!
One quirk Zen if you could touch on this, my notification lights are a bit funky. ie I seen it blink once really fast but it stays off otherwise when getting a text message.
It is not a deal breaker for me though I'm keeping this bad boy on my phone for awhile. Thank you so much!!!!!
I'll try any Sense ROM once as long as it's nice and clean like this one I'm a Fresh guy myself but everyone does fantiastic stuff. Now if there was just an app for free cable...
*Don't post about how you flashed this and went back to your other rom. Nobody cares.
Classic Here's a dumb question.....what about JIT?
So if anyone has switched from the latest Zen-EXP(the mytouch 3g slide port) to this, how's it running in comparison?
I'm using EXP with noperflock kernel at 768 and it's flying, but if this is quicker I'll switch.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the point of this? I'm not complaining that we have more ROM options, but it's simply a question since it looks basically exactly like stock 2.1 imo. Is it because we can, and it's free?

Stock 2.1 doesn't have the improvements listed at the top.
Also, the legend port we had a long time ago was much faster than the Hero builds at the time, and the Aria builds are apparently faster.
So if you like faster and more featured builds, then you'll like this.
Flashing now, thanks Zip/Zen, I'll report how it's running.

Ah, okay. Faster is definitely good, but I never cared for Sense.. I may try it though, just to see how fast it is. Thanks for answering my question.

Quick Question... and sorry for thinking about the future... Does this means that if AT&T shows some 2.2 Froyo on Aria... Can be ported to the Hero?

Well, after a break, a lot of new OTA updates and such, and a lot of patience from most of you...here it is! I apologize for the wait and hope you find this release worth it. I still have to upload pics and such, they will be here soon.

Azrael X v5.0 by Ricsim78
To install on your Evo:
1. Copy the ROM zip file to the root of your SD card.
2. Shut off your phone and boot into recovery.
3. Do a full wipe (Data, cache, Dalvik, SD Ext.) Do it twice to be sure if you want to!
4. Install the ROM. It should take a few minutes to install.
5. Reboot the phone. It should take a long time to start up the first time. Please be patient!
6. If all goes well, enjoy your new ROM!
7. If not, start over from step 2 after pulling your battery.
To install a custom kernel: Let it boot all the way into the ROM first and then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the custom kernel and reboot. DO NOT install any MODS without letting the ROM load up without any addons first!
To install a theme: Let it boot all the way into the ROM first, then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the theme and reboot.
How to backup and restore using Titanium backup Here is the method I use to backup my phone information before I wipe and install a new ROM
I backup my entire phone with a batch "Backup all user apps + system data"
Wipe and install the new ROM,
I open Titanium Backup (TB) and give it super user rights.
I hit "Updates?" in TB and make sure I am running the latest.
I hit "Problems?" in TB and make sure I am using Busybox 1.60
Hit menu and select batch
Select "Backup all new apps + newer versions of apps", if any.
Select "Restore missing apps with data"
Go over the list and make sure you are restoring only what you want
Hit run batch operation
After it completes, go back into TB and backup restore.
Restore contacts twice
Restore MMS twice
Restore Mail twice
If any of the 3 above do not take, do it again
Restart your phone
Verify mail, MMS, and contacts restored. If not, restore again.
Why Amon RA and not Clockwork recovery?
Clockwork does not wipe the Dalvik properly (if at all). I personally have had nothing but problems with both Clockwork and ROM manager
I have said countless times that if you use either of the above, it is at your own risk. Install Amon RA recovery and I bet any wiping/installing problems will go away.
If you already are using ROM manager, pick the option to install a custom recovery, choose Amon RA 1.8. If that option is greyed out, reinstall the latest Clockwork then install RA.
Note: Do not do a fix permissions with anything unless you need to, you can screw stuff up that way.
Trust me, the new ROM is devoid of problems (I have never tested a ROM this much before releasing it). If you experience any, it is either something you are doing wrong or incomplete wipes thanks to your recovery not doing it's job properly.
Which kernels work with this ROM?
Any that are designed for a Sense ROM. This includes:
Netarchy's
Kingclick's
Hero Over's
Ziggy's
HTC's
Which kernel do you recommend to use?
I cannot recommend a kernel for you because each EVO reacts different. The best for my phone can be the worse for yours.
You have to try the different ones available and pick the one that works best for you. What I do is start with their latest and work your way down until you find one that works well. Then stick with it.
This also goes for overclocking, SetCPU settings, etc.
With the new Hardware 0004 Evo phones, a custom kernel may or may not break the camera and video recording features. Make sure to test them before you head out.
Which themes work with this ROM?
Themes make your phone look nice but can also add problems to an otherwise smooth running ROM. You can use any theme you wish, but Nandroid first and if anything is broken, please do not blame the ROM as it is the theme that added the problem.
You definitely need to install a theme that works with a Gingerbread based ROM. DO NOT load an older theme (for older OTA's, for example 3.70, 3.30 or 3.29) as the framework files are different.
Always Nandroid before using a custom theme. Once you load up the theme, verify no problems are present that were not there before you installed the theme. If there is, keep the theme and either live with the problem, or fix it if you can. If not,be sure to let the maker of that particular theme aware that it is not working with Azrael ROM. They may be glad to help and you are helping them make their theme more compatible.

3.30.651.2 (and subsequently 3.30.651.3) is 100% designed for newer Evo manufactured in November.
These Evos are hardware number 0004 and have a different camera chip and some other changes to the framework of the ROMS to accommodate this new hardware. HTC threw us ROM makers a curve ball!
You can use 3.30.XXX.X on an older Evo, but you can experience the following problems (some of which I personally witnessed on my own 0003 Evo):
Fast battery drain
3rd party camera apps having trouble working
Speed descreased a bit. (My new Azrael ROM is faster than my new Omega ROM on my phone, though they are identical besides the base).

Has the 3.30 base been definitely pinpointed as the cause of the rapid battery drain? I trust you and your Rom that's why I am using it. I only ask because it seems as most devs here have updated their Rom to the new base and was curious what in the build would cause this? Thanks.

Best Guide!!!! How to Root and Install roms and GOT 2.2.1 AND ALOT MORE!

Hi All, This is an All-in-one thread with available roms (for both Eclair and GOT 2.2.1 leak), how to root + apply roms for GOT 2.2.1 Leak, petitions, projects, etc. Please read everything carefully and good luck
(SCROLL DOWN FOR LIST OF ROMS, PETITIONS, ETC!)
Disclaimer: I am not responsible if anything happens to your device. Please read the whole text over before applying roms. Use at your own risk.
It is strongly recommended that you wipe data + cache + dlavik (may not be spelled right) cache before applying ANY roms.
Also, make sure to have vulnerable recovery and root installed (I do not think you need vulnerable recovery for 2.1 BUT ROOT IS NEEDED) However it is acquired, root is needed.
Also, MAKE SURE YOU NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING TO YOUR DEVICE!!! GOOD LUCK
How-To Root (On GOT 2.2.1) (All the files were taken straight from the GOT homepage)
Note: Please, make sure your device is fully charged before you attempt to do this!
The following files all have vulnerable recovery pre-installed:
DACH – GERMANY :
http://www.multiupload.com/G9PP7JN78C
DACH AUSTRIA :
http://www.multiupload.com/P8DDXCWW03
RETAIL EUROPE (RTEU) :
http://www.multiupload.com/6X7H39HGCG
FRANCE RETAIL :
http://www.multiupload.com/PK28LXE4SE
ITALY WIND :
http://www.multiupload.com/3KYMZNRZW2
UK RETAIL (RTUK) :
http://www.multiupload.com/60B78PRKNY
TELUS CANADA :
http://www.multiupload.com/5S2CYGP3VW
Download the file according to where you live.
Now, you must install RSD Lite (taken from http://tinyurl.com/3xg5xwj):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N1MPCX1U
mirror: http://www.multiupload.com/jw25luksh2 (not tested by me, found from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983516 thanks nagi603 and eXtink please report in comments if it works!)
I'm pretty sure you may have to install the drivers for your device, a simple google may help. - This may be required.
Next, open RSD Lite and click the "..." and navigate to the file you have downloaded above.
Next, plug in your phone in bootloader mode. To do this, turn your phone off, then hold the power button, the top volume button and the camera button at the same time. Then you should enter bootloader mode. It should say Bootloader at the top. Make sure, at the bottom it says "Battery OK". Please, make sure you have fully charged your device! Then click the start button. Wait for a while.
Once its booted, plug the device into your computer via usb, then go to memory card access. Then go to the root of the sd card (on your computer)
Now, download and OR (For this tutorial, I will be using Androidani 3.3, the link is a the bottom).
In the rar file there should be two things. One should be a folder named "OpenRecovery" (Note: Make sure thats the file name!) and an update.zip file. Next, put the OpenRecovery folder in the root of your sd card. (If you have never used an OR before, you should NOT have to replace anything!) Also put the update.zip in the root of your sd card.
Next, turn the phone off. Now, while turning your phone on, (THIS MAY NOT WORK FOR SOME PEOPLE) hold the camera and power button until you see the M logo, then release the power button but keep holding the camera button. You should see a caution sign. Next, click the up button (on the volume rocker) and camera button after. Keep trying it if it doesn't take you to a menu. Next, slide out your keyboard then using the d-pad navigate to "apply update.zip" and click the middle button. Once its applied, you should have a bigger, longer menu. Then navigate to root phone in the new menu. Once this is done, you should be rooted.
How to apply custom roms:
Now that you have root and an OR (Open Recovery), turn on your phone and plug it into your computer in memory card access. (Or, you can navigate to the OR [By above method] and click memory card access, it should be the first or second option in the menu)
Once you are at the root of your sd card, go to OpenRecovery folder, then click updates. After that, put a rom that is an UPDATE (Some roms are not, some can be nandroid backups. It should specify on thread) For example, as of now, cyanogen mod by kabaldan is an update.
If the rom is a nandroid backup (Again, it should specify on thread) (For example, as of now, MotoFroyoSense is a nandroid backup), then navigate to the root folder then go to nandroid folder and click one of the folders within the nandroid folder (any, it doesn't matter) and put the nandroid backup (AS A FOLDER, not rar) and finally, turn off your phone.
Then navigate back to the OpenRecovery menu and click updates (if its an update rom) and click it, or if its a nandroid, navigate to nandroid then nandroid restore, and restore the rom.
Remember to wipe before you apply any roms!
Now, as an addition, here are all the roms available for milestone! They can be found in a cleaner thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11593755#post11593755

Miui ROM original site is miui.com ( Chinese Developers ). There is also miui-dev.com ( Run by Markhuk ). Then there is Lalit's MOD.
I would suggest to also add a section that deals with HOW TO , like how to nandroid / how to get your phone to stock etc.
There is the european froyo leak, its in the general forum.
Thanks

What does one has to do to get the MotoCam working on any rom?
I know i've asked this in another thread, but i wanna know! I prefer that cam!

Hi, it may be possible to extract to other roms. However, it is included in this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929646. For best results, I would use the nandroid backup created by sileshn
Edit: Honestly, I prefer that camera over the one that is found in Cyanogen 6, FroyoMod, etc. I too would like to find out if someone can use this camera instead of the one found in other roms.

Just a question. I live in South Africa, and I got my Milestone here. If I check my version with the motorola software update application it just tells me I have a Motorola Global phone. So which vulnerable recovery will I need to download? Also, how will this affect my baseband versions etc?
I am currently running the latest stock Eclair on my Milestone, and found this thread as the most thorough instructions available. I am new to android flashing, but not new to phone flashing.
So, basically in order to upgrade to the Cyanogen mod, i would need:
1. Download this for vulnerable recovery (same as open recovery?) UK RETAIL (RTUK)
2. Install it via RSD Lite
3. Wipe everything in the data + cache + dlavik folders on my phone. (do I have to wipe the SD card at any point?)
4. Install Cyanogen Mod via open recovery
Did I get this right? Did i miss something? Thanks!
Is there are a step I should pay extra attention to in order to not screw up my phone?
Thanks and sorry for being such a newb.

If I were you, I would update to GOT 2.2.1 as the vulnerable recovery is already there. You would just flash using rsd lite (link in first post) I am not sure if any drivers were required. To be on the safe side, I would google (34 bit or 64 bit) windows xp, vista or 7 motorola milestone drivers depending on which one you have. I had drivers when I did this. I will try to find links when I have time. I would flash the according GOT 2.2.1 leak and use androidani 3.3 OR to I install basebands if they are the wrong one. It is really eqsy to root and install roms on milestone with this. I would just use my tutorial to install got 2.2.1 and install cyanogen mod 6.1.2 (best experience for me).
Good luck

[Q] Some questions about Dexter's and Wanted's FroYo ROMs [+Updated]

Guys, I just got my XT720 and I'm going to either flash it for Wanted's froYo or keep stock Eclair + Jit and App2SD. From what I read, wanted's lastest ROM seems the best option for me me once I don't use Wi-Fi, but I got some questions that I din't find in the release topic:
1. Does the native App2SD for FroYo works?
2. Flash Player Works?
3. If the native APP2SD doens't works, can I apply this method :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7909401&postcount=52 on this ROM, or if I do this before flash for 2.2 will it keep JIT em App2SD?
4. How do I check wich stock ROM I'm using? I just got the phone, bought it in USA, but I guess it's the Euro version coz MotoNav has only Euro maps.
I guess is it, thanks in advice.

3. I know Dexters ROMs will automatically move the user apps to an ext2(3?) partition if it's there. In addition Mioze7Ae patch to 1.3 offers additional configurations as to how this works, I'm not sure about XAVs ROMS in this respect.
I am watching XAVs ROMs & once he fixes the bugs in the 1.3 beta I'll be giving it a try. Kahlpowers also has some nice themed variations, you can check out his builds in his post in the theme section (you'll want to look towards the end of the thread as the themes at the beginning are based on 2.1 eclair).

Thank you very much, so I'll just flash Dexter's or Xav's ROM. I'll read a bit more about Dexter's lastest release, I was going to try Xav's coz people said it's faster than Dexter's and actually the only bugs reported aren't that bad ( at least for me) but Dexter's maybe a better option while Xav's doesn't fix all bugs. Thanks again =)
Guys, I flashed my phone to Dexter's 1.3 ROM, it's working fine, but I have "2" new questions:
1. I want install that Honeycomb Theme from Kahpower http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11986041&postcount=192 how do I install it, same way I did to install Dexter's or gotta flash for stock and redo the whole process?
1.1- I NEED TO create that ext3 partition or is it optional?
1.2- Is this ROM the same as Dexter's 1.3 but with the new theme?
2- What's yours phone avarage temperature? Even with stock ROM I think my XT is a too hot near the camera, it says 41°C Avarage, is it normal?
Thanks in advice!
You download the KPs nandroid file & unzip it then copy the xthoneycomb folder to the /nandroid/openrecovery/ folder on yours sdcard & then just boot into OpenRecovery & nandroid restore just like the installation of Dexters Froyo, no need to flash back to stock & the ext3 patition is optional it will use it if its there but its not necessary. Khalpowers themes throw in a few other tweaks but are generally built off Dexter's Froyo.

Thanks again man, I feel safer now to do it, got this phone there isn't even a day and I'm already flashing it, so I'm a bit scared of doing any mistake and Bricking it..
And a final question, Quadrant and Milestone Overlock show CPU defaut Clock as 550 Mhz, shouldn't it be 720?
Edit:
Just flashed it: OMG this is so beatiful ! The collors match perfectly with XT720's collor (Graffite front/blue rear) ! And the way that the pages/tabs pop in on the screen is so cool ! It's a completly new phone, much better. Now is just install my apps and have fun! =D the only thing that is worrying me is that fact that the phone is very hot, even at 550 Mhz.. dunno if it's the XT720 normal temperature, but I don't think so.
I have the questions regarding the installation of the ROM Dexter,
1. ext3 will need to take before making the change in ROM, or that I can do next?
2. To work App2Sd is necessary to partition the SD?
Thanks for the help
1) you can do that after you flash the Froyo
2) you don't need to if you plan to use Froyo's Apps 2 SD
but you need to if you want to use Link2SD

@ Lezherus
Check here for info about Milestone OC settings (I run 1GHZ @ 60vsel, governed with SetCPU).
@ Tavinsky
It is my understanding that the check for an ext3 partition happens at boot, so you I think you could "add" this feature later & yes you will have to partition your sdcard to take advantage of the apps2ext feature. Note that Froyo native apps2sd which can copy compatible apps to a hidden folder on the FAT32 works without any re-partitioning.

Thanks guys, I'm about to change the ROM, their responses are very helpful.

I know, that wasn't my point.. I mean, thats like my XT's processor orginal clock is 550Mhz, even at 2.1 stock it was 550 Mhz, but isn't the stock 720Mhz? or there are differents types of XT720? And thats totally weird, but at 550Mhz my phone was a firebar ( 41°C at no use and 45 at common use ), I overclocked it to 1000Mhz and it's normal now lol (38°C).
BTW, someone know how to disable the new voice mail notification on status bar? It's stucked there and I can't remove it.. I've already read all my voice mails, tried everything and it still there =(

Wantedrom 1.3 screen rotate/youtube upload
So I've tried all the variation from Dexter's first 2.2 rom and have stopped with the latest Wanted Rom1.3
Two things I'm not liking...
1: my screen will not rotate if I am using the keyboard for a text message and would like the larger button layout.
2: I no longer have the option of uploading a video from my phone directly to Youtube. Youtube downloads were only done using stock2.1 so maybe I missed that this was missing from the roms I've previously tried as well.
anybody have any thoughts?

Of course, it's "on". I even reflashed this ROM again and wiped all cache and set to factoty settings before it. Problem stays the same - no autorotate.
Tried Wanted ROM 1.2 and Dexter 1.3, everything works there. The problem seems to be in this Wanted ROM version.

The screen will rotate for games and applications that require a landscape view instead of portrait but not for anything where it is an option.
I backtracked a little and set my phone to wantedrom 1.2. I didn't even do a factory reset as everyone is always insisting is necessary. Autorotate fixed, all my applications stayed loaded and functional as before.
Overclocked at 1200 MHz , 80vsel and the phone is screaming fast.
After I typed this, I checked the wanted forum and found his solution to the sensor issue...

[Q] Problem SDcard and Apps [XDAndroid FRX06]

Hello,
I have a HTC Touch Diamond 100 and I installed the "Froyo FRX06 XDandroid NEW system update" review in the post "[prj] [XDANDROID] [AOSP] [FroYo | GINGERBREAD] [31.03] System Update" and everything works fine except that it doesn't recognize SDcard applications.
There's no Error Message in the screen, is just that the system doesn't recognice anything in the SDcard. I put my apps in the folder: AndroidApps-> Other. I think it's not the common fault that I have read many people have "Waiting for SDCard error. For people who have problems with sdcard message, add this to your startupmsmsdcc_1bit msmsdcc_fmax=14000000 msmsdcc_nopwrsave" because for instance the phone let me save the pictures i've take with the camera phone or install and recognice any app from the market.
I 've Format the card with the HP tools after initial installation and then i had restore all the files in the internal storage.
P.S. Sorry for my possible spelling mistakes but English is not my native language
Keep in mind if you put the apk in anything other than the AndroidApps folder you will need to install them yourself. See THIS FAQ for further explanation. As far as the wating on sd card message you get when you are booting into Android, I get those all the time and have no problems with taking pictures. I would suggest that you use the full bundle from THIS post to ensure you have the latest. Unless you know what you are doing

Oh what A noob mistake xD I didn't know that apps in the "Other" folder doesn't follow the "typical rules" for instaling apps (i've come from previous releases of Android, Eclair specifically, and in that version it was only place in this folder to install apps).
I'm using froyo instead of gingerbread builts because HTC touch Diamond it's quite old and i don't know if the performance would be better or slower than froyo performace but if you recomend me to use that gingerbread bundle i would use it.
Thanks R^7Z.
Honestly, Gingerbread is "better" but it is alpha release at the moment. Yes, this means that there are quite a few more "improvements" to under-go! I only recommend it if you like the idea of Android. The latest releases for FroYo aren't bad but it seems there are a few hard instability hits it has taken since FRX03 (last time I really enjoyed running a FroYo build from the XDAndroid project). Since then, I've been playing around with a few things and builds to include but not limited to this new idea of CWM (clockwork mod/Gingercherry tutorial) which is posted in the neopeek forums. So, unless you've got an idea as to how neopeek variants work, it's suggested to stick with the XDAndroid builds...

I see what you say but honestly, right now, I'm looking for stability and performace, if you know that gingerbread build GBX0A have better performance (i supose that it's less stable because it's an alpha) than FRX06 i'll choose Ginger
Thanks again R^7Z.
