Only had my dang phone for about 2 weeks and already scratched the screen and thumb pad! Im a total perfectionist so u know this is killing me and thinking of calling att with some bs and getting a new one since im still in the 30 day period. This screen at first look thick like it was bulletproof glass and thought it would be extra durable compared to the tilt and 8525, guess not. I keep my phone all day in that modaco armor case which works perfectly but somehow seemd to scratch it up already. Can the stylus scratch the screen? I dont press hard but theres a scratch going vertical right where the scroll bar is on the screen thinking the stylus caused that one.
How about u guys?

Lol Its funny that I'm reading this because I'm in the process of exchanging my old fuze (2 weeks old) due to "random restarts". I just received the new one and I think I'll open it when my new case and screen protector arrives. I'm just beating up the old one for now since they gave me a month to return it.

Haha, that was the excuse i was gonna use to return mine that works fine along with saying the tf3d isnt always working, haha! So in the 30 day window do u call then go to the store to pick up ur new one or do they mail it to u like a normal exchange?
I was thinking of getting a screen protector but they always look wack and almost can never get every single air bubble out. Even the expensive ones and seeing that extra layer on the screen kinda bugs. Idk?

In my case Amazon mailed it to me because that is technically the "store" from which I brought it from but in any other case you go back to the store and feed them that excuse (they won't doubt you at all). I'm debating about the screen protector but I'm OCD about not having something perfect but I think Im just going to go with the seidio innocase and clip combo. Before the fuze I had a tmobile sidekick slide which I treated just like I am with the fuze and was able to sell it for 10 more bucks than what I bought it for after using it for a year (goes to show)
Re: screen scratches, When I had my diamond I would sometimes use the back of my finger to swipe the screen with and actually scratched it with my nail. Was trying to avoid finger grease. Worked a charm till the scratches appeared. On my pro, I'm extra careful.I also hate screen protectors. Always look whacked to me. I use the stylus prolly 80% of the time.
I drive for fedex, and my fuze (no screen protector, no case) has taken a beating. I usually keep it in my shirt
pocket, and it often falls out screen first on: diamond plate aluminum flooring, concrete, rainy asphalt parking lots.... i think you get the picture. Still running strong. i think its had an effect on the home, send, and left keys; i have to press exactly in the right spot to get the intended keypress.
Fuze is definitely tough.
PS. Already got bodyguardz, and pouch type case for my replacement.

I definitely just cringed a little upon looking at that picture lol Hope you have better luck with your replacement.
I have one small scratch that you can only see when the screen is off.
I usually keep it in my pocket, and I also don't like the screen protectors.
I usually keep mine in the pouch thing that came with it. I don't have any major scratches. I clean my screen a lot with a cleaning cloth what I carry around (Clean freak.)
what can i say?

i couldn't wait for accessories to come in, had to start using the fuze immediately because:
1. i'm a fiend
2. tilt died a slow (2 weeks) dr. pepper death
3. wife has the elfin (flashed/tweaked it countless times, now she's happy with it..... 'nuff said)
4. will put my sim in something else, and "drop my fuze in the lake", and pay $125 for another
i knew this would happen with my first, just not that bad

Why? Just exchange it in for warranty purposes. What you have is just wear and tear >.> A genuine issue would be to flash back the original SPL and crash it by flashing a cooked rom. Even the expert guys won't know what caused it since the original SPL is on there and you get a new free fuze.

Lost Or Stolen Claims???
I pay $10 more a month now to have insurance on my fuze. How does this work? Can i just "say" i lost it and pay the $125 fee for a new one and now have 2 fuzes? Does att have anyway of regulating this? I would imagine one could make some decent cash paying $125 for a new fuze then reselling for much more. Anyone know how this works with att?

ask your local store, or call and ask. they all tell me something different, but when i hear what i want to hear, i get their name, and maybe even record the conversation. but you have to let them know you are recording them, or you might go to jail.

If it's anything like the old verizon insurance I use to have, I'm almost positive it is, you can only make 2 claims a year. As for saying you "lost it" you can completely get away with it as long as you don't continue using it with the same sim card (best bet is to sell it, make the 125 back, and have little bit more spending money for accessories).
you guys are crazy. im a bit psychotic about my fuze. no ones allowed to touch it (or even look at it too long) but me, im constantly wiping the finger print smudges and even the dust that lands on it when its just sitting there. i took off the screen protector because it was bubbling up around the ear piece and top corners and it was bugging me because it looked ugly. i think my fuze is better in a more pristine condition than when i took it out of the box. its the best phone ive ever had and i will never have enough money to buy another one.
I put the screen protector on my Touch Pro the moment I took it out of the box.
You should try and get a Zagg screen protector. I ordered a full body protector for my fuze last week and I'm waiting to get it. You can get 50% off until January 19th with the code SHOWSP09. Shipping is also free if you go with ground shipping.

Interesting! I see someone on here has a video of it too. Gonna look into this thing, just might be the answer for my new fuze after i trade this scratched up sucker back in!
Wow, looks pretty dang amazing! If its as good as it looks on the site then ill probably get this for every phone for now on! Thanks too for the discount code bro, gives me second day shipping for free making up for the price!
I just bought a case so I don't need my zagg shield anymore.
I was just wondering if anyone wants it? I'd send my stuff in for the brand new replacement and then simply mail it to you.
You'd just have to pay for the shipping/handling that Zagg makes the consumer pay. And if YOU ever needed it replaced, mail it back to me and I'll send in the used pieces back to zagg. again, you only have to pay the price of shipping/handling.
Just doing this for the sake of not wasting a Lifetime warranty. I know it's kind of a hassle for you, but saving money, even if it's not mine, still makes me happy.
If you have questions just email: [email protected]
EDIT: I just checked with zagg, they say the shipping cost is 2.99 +tax. So you'd be getting it for pretty much 3 bucks.
I have a zagg invisishield. couldn't stand it on the screen anymore so took it off about a month ago. been debating taking the full body coverage off since its starting to et ucky and i really didn't like that it made the phone look glossy in the first place.
Anyone use their nexus one with no coverage? how has it fared? I am religious about my right pocket being for my phone only and nothing else, and regularly use the sleeve that came with it. I'm thinking if i get rid of the shield i won't have problems.. but i just know the second it comes off i'l drop it for the first time or throw it in a pocket with something hard and sharp.

haha, +1 about the right pocket. Its my designated 'phone pocket'. Honestly my phone would be perfectly fine if i didnt' have the shield on (from scratches) and i've never dropped my phone yet.
However, it's only been 3 months with the phone, and since i rooted mine, I'm really worried about someone dropping it and breaking it, which is why I bought a case.
I DO know that the shield has given me a lot less to worry about, that tiny things on my desk or dropping some coins on the screen won't damage it.
Pretty sure most of you can tell where I am heading with this thread based on the title. I personally find the One S has a rather thin and slippery grip on the side, and I am wondering if the fellow One S owners share similar sentiments.
I had the phone for about 2.5 weeks or so, and was totally loving it, except the fact that I always had a hard time getting a good grip with the phone in my hand. One day, I accidentally dropped the phone, from maybe not more than 3ft high. And unfortunately the screen completely cracked. I was extremely upset, partially at myself for not using a screen protector, but more so at HTC.
Phone is not covered by T-mobile's warranty (no insurance), HTC could not even give me a quote for repair due to the phone was just released. So now I have arguably the latest and best android phone in the market collecting dust at home.
Sorry to hear, dude - was this the grey version?
I don't think a screen protector would have helped you as they're more to protect from scratches, not impact.
Did you buy it with a credit card? If so, you may have insurance without even knowing it.
Dude thats so bad
I new i would break my phone if i didnt get a case... after a few minutes it was slipping out of my hand...
The design is awesome, but they should have implemented so rubber grips down the sides or something..
Anyway, if you do get it fixed...... GET A CASE !! its the best thing i ever bought
Check the House Insurance (if you have it) you may be covered....mine is!
Edit:
Ebay are selling the screens
I know Discover cards have a insurance clause on some of their stuff so you should check that out like the other guy said . . but yea it's slipped out of my hands onto my jeans countless times because of the lack of grip lol .. that's why i bought a case first thing ..and as for screen protectors i've cracked 3 phones with them on (one with a case on as well) so they don't really help from drops and places should tell you that when you buy it too
Can u post a pic of the damage

I dropped my iphone4 a countless of times on concrete and the glass never shattered. I dropped my 1S a couple of times already on ceramic tiles and still nothing except that MAO paint problem.
I think cases are butt ugly and a waste of money. I wouldn't even go for the 1S if I was going to use a case. Seriously put a 1S in a case and what does it have over the SGS3 or the 1X?
Anyway just my opinion
i actually dont believe in phone case either becuz i think they make the phone look ugly and bulky, thus ive never bought phone cases.
however, due to this phone being so thin and slippery, I felt like a grippy phone case is a must have. after surfing around the web for a little while, i found diztronic matte back phone case. Just got the case today and i love it!
high quality case, its made of TPU so it has a good amount of grip. All the holes are cut out perfectly (it doesnt cover any speaker/mic/sensor opening). The case is also thin so it doesnt make my phone bulky (sure it makes ur phone look a little thicker, but it's not a bad compromise at all). And last but not least, i really dig the look of the case, very well designed in my opinion. It also come with a screen protector in case anyone needs one.
And this is exactly why I'm putting a case on my phone for the first time ever. Sorry to hear about your phone mate.

I've checked online and seen it listed but can I just verify that this phone has Gorilla Glass 1/2? Obviously, that doesn't make it crack proof but I work construction and end up putting my phones through their paces and found that my Milestone (Gorilla Glass) held up a fair bit better than my Desire Z (no Gorilla Glass).
And yes, in my situation a case (And insurance) is a necessity on a three year contract.
I've had the phone for all of 5 days. it fell from my hand as I put something down on a rock, litterally no drop whatsoever, but it slid a whopping 6 inches down the rock on it's face and the screen cracked and scratched. if it is supposed to have gorilla glass, I was gypped. I have no renters insurance and didn't buy it with a credit card, but I do have a plan.
-get the insurance from t-mobile, as I'm withing the 14 days
-enjoy not caring about the phone for the next 6 months
-pay the 130 for a replacement through asurion
-sell new phone for 400+ (if the release of the S3 doesn't drop the market value too much)
-buy Galaxy S3

oh, just to rub salt in the wound, when I got home, today, after cracking the screen, my dritztronic case, with screen protector, was in my mailbox... mocking me...
Get one of these TPU cases, very minimal and offers a good grip, easy to take on and off and has a ever so slightly raised edge around the front so even if you drop it face first the screen won't impact any surfaces. I got the clear one with the curved sand blasted part. I think I paid like $9 shipped and it came within a week.
Thanks
Thanks everyone for all the sympathetic and constructive replies. Unfortunately the phone is just right over the 14day US T-mobile insurance, and my credit card does not provide any.
I never believed in cases either, always thought it kills the design of the phone, but after this incident, I may think differently. Such a shame though, it's a such a slick looking phone WITHOUT the case. I am considering writing a complaint email to HTC, not sure if it will do any good, but worth a shot.
I had also checked screen replacement online, but they are still in the $150-$200 range.

I doubt HTC is going to help you. You dropped it, and therefore are responsible. Yeah, it SUCKS.
Also, I'm surprised that this screen is Gorilla Glass, based on these reports of cracking. What's the point of Gorilla Glass if it breaks just as easy? I know it's scratchproof, but it's also supposed to be much more resistant to breaks.

LOL at the plan BUT what i've learned through all the warranty exchanges i did with my G2x is just call tmobile tell them the phones fine (physically) make up something so they send u out a new one and when they find out its cracked or water damaged or whatever they charge you $74.03 which is almost half of asurion or w.e the company is .. i cracked the F outta my g2x told them it was overheating and they sent me a new one called me in a couple days saying my screens cracked and they're charging me $74.03 just if you wanted my sources it's legit

It's what they SHOULD be doing..seriously. But to explain the process:
Call tmobile
Ask for technical support
Tell them "i don't know what's wrong with my phone, the touch screen isn't working on certain parts and it keeps freezing and calling people on its own" or make up any other non physical issue you can think of.
They'll make you trouble shoot the phone and just play dumb and stick to your "my phone isn't working" excuse
Then the technical support person will tell you "okay, we're going to send you a phone exchange and you just send back the one with issues" they'll ask you if the phone has any PHYSICAL or WATER damage... SAY NO. They'll tell you if they find any damage they will charge you ___ which as the previous poster stated is A LOT cheaper charge than anything the insurance or htc or anyone else will bill you for. You might have to pay for the shipping of the new exchange and that's it.
(and if you end up getting nervous about this and chicken out when the new phone gets to you... just send the same phone back... tmobile sends you a little white box and inside that white box is the shell of the "new" phone with a pre labeled mailing slip and a little sticker to seal the box up again...no big deal)
Make sense?
So the unthinkable happened this morning when I woke up. My phone fell from my lap and the screen cracked in four different places. The digitizer is shot, as i can't get any touch responses. Samsung really screwed us over with making it the way it is made. I am not sure if I should get it replaced, apparently I have to pay 100 bucks to do so. By the way, I think this is the most cracked android phone out there. So it now can be said it competes with the iphone on all levels. Great f'ing job Samsung. Terrible idea to use Gorilla Glass II and make it so thin that it break falling out of bed (which is about a 2.5 ft fall). Hell, I had the stupid case with the flip cover which didnt do jack.
Anyways, what do you think my options are?
1. Pay repair fee
2. Get a used phone from swappa or ebay
3. Do nothing and have no phone.
4. use an old phone while you decide.
If it was me, I'd repair the screen and then either get a decent case (flip case is probably worse than no case since it offers basically no protection but gives a false sense of security) or sell the phone for something more sturdy if you are prone to accidents.
The phone can be sturdy if you put a decent case on it. Ive dropped my phone twice from about 5-6 feet. Once on to concrete and once on a wooden deck. My case absorbed the impact nicely both times and I have 0 damage.
I would honestly just pay the $100 for the insurance if you have it. I had to use mine because my screen cracked and they send me a brand new GS3 including the battery, charger, and headphones. It's not worth trying to fix since you can get a new one.
I bought insurance through Verizon because these things do happen. You may want to consider it as it covers theft, lost, damages etc out of the first year...

First of all, let me say that I really like the S4. I sold my iPhone 5 and be able to buy it at full price when it was released. I like the size, it's just about perfect size for me, fits well in my hand. The air gestures and air views are pretty nice, they come in handy. Coming from an iPhone, having a replaceable battery is priceless, I liked being able to swap out my low battery with a full charged one.
My first S4 broke while in my pocket on 5/6, I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary, was just doing things around the house, when I pulled it from my pocket there was a crack from the upper right corner down the middle of the left side. The AMOLED display under the glass is what broke, device was unusable, nothing showed on the screen except some colors on top left above the crack.
After fighting with AT&T and Asurion the entire next day, AT&T agreed to give me an early upgrade. So I bought a new one on 5/7.
I received my new S4 on 5/10, then this morning, 5/15, while at work I was squatted down, texting, and dropped it from around knee level on carpet with padding over concrete and it cracked the AMOLED display, this time in the upper right corner, with 4 cracks from the side to about an inch into the display.
This S4 had a Spigen Ultra Thin Air case on it, as well as Spigen's Glas.t Slim screen protector.
I don't expect manufacturers to make phones that are indestructible, but this seems ridiculous to me.
I was a long time Apple user before I bought the S4, I don't think I will ever go back, but I'm regretting going with Samsung now. I've spent over $900 between both devices and now they are both in the mail (as well as almost $200 in accessories that are worthless now), for Samsung to evaluate, so for the next two weeks I'm stuck with using an old S2 that likes to reboot every 15 minutes.
I've read a few posts on here about people breaking the screen under the glass like I did. So I'd be careful if you own one.

That sucks dude. But hey, a little advice...fix that S2! If it's rebooting like that, there's something wrong. There are several super-stable Jelly Bean roms available for flashing these days. I come from that world, so I know it like the back of my hand...PM me if you'd like me to help you make your S2 awesome.
Before anyone says this isnt a necessary thread, I think it is.
Having a 32GB and having spent money on my device and screen protector and cases I'd like to know this too, so I would love to hear from anyone else that has broken their device easily
Damn that sucks OP. I think you have bad luck with the S4, I remember when you mentioned the S4 screen cracking while it was in your pocket. I would get another phone if I were you.
I have a really hard time "feeling sorry" for people who drop and break their phones and complain.
I don't know what kind of response (pity?) that you want from people.
Drop the iphone 4 in just the right spot and it'll crack too. Every phone is the same more or less.
Don't want a broken phone? Don't drop it. You break it that way, the fault is no ones but yourself.

I don't know what kind of response (pity?) that you want from people.
Drop the iphone 4 in just the right spot and it'll crack too. Every phone is the same more or less.
Don't want a broken phone? Don't drop it. You break it that way, the fault is no ones but yourself.

That's kinda of an ignorant comment, the OP had his screen cracked and it was just in his pocket so no drop at all. The second time it was a drop but it is his experience and I understand it especially when you purchase a device this expensive twice. Don't be rude man.
His story for breaking in his pocket was "while around the house". So whats to say he didn't accidentally smash it again something while doing housework or anything else like a table?
Dropping your phone - what do you expect? Go buy a Nokia if you plan on dropping it. Even then im sure drop proof isn't part of any phone's warranty.
Pretty straight forward. You may not like my "tone" but you can't honestly count it against the phone if you're not keeping it safe. The error is human in this case. Own up to it and take better care of your phone.
I've cracked iphones and android screens and bodies before, it was probably my fault in handling it; but you definitely won't see me running to a forum and complaining about the manufacturer having shoddy quality when it was clearly human error.
I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's the Chinese models in specific breaking like that because I have seen multiple S4's dropped now WITHOUT ANY CASE from 6 feet and survive with only scrapes to the actual frame and here you have a case AND a glass screen protector, and it falls from half the height and suffers catastrophically.
Has to be something more going on here. Reviews will also show the phone can survive falls just like any other premium metal phone and then some, so quite an odd case here
ALSO to everyone else, stop hating on the OP. Yea I have to agree it's just really vague to say your phone was just up and broken, but I'm willing to look at it as the OP is telling the truth cause at worst, even if he is lying, it really don't matter.
No offense OP, but I'm going to call bull**** here. You have to be leaving out something -- even if it's by accident. I've had smartphones with larger screens for 5+ years now, and not once have i cracked or broken a phone. The last phone that broke was the first nokia clamshell that came out -- and that was after i dropped it from standing on to a concrete floor. Even then it worked still, the plastic just cracked a bit.
There is no way you broke your phone just having it in your pocket -- unless you were wearing super tight hipster jeans with your keys in your pocket. Futhermore, dropping your phone 2 feet on to a padded floor, won't just break your phone either....it just wont.
I've dropped my s3/s4 many times on to my wood floor now without any issues (without a case).
Also, wouldn't your phone be under the 14 day return policy anyway? If anything happens in those 14 days, you get a new one?
Overall, this just doesn't make sense. I think you are omitting some key details here; these phones ARE NOT that fragile.
EDIT-- How did you figure $900 dollars between two phones plus $200 in accessories?
A new line/renewal should be about $200-250 per phone; cases run $30-35, USBs 5-10, screen protector 7-15....
You should have gotten insurance.

I'm not asking for anything, I'm just putting this info out here.
In my experience, the S4 is easily broken.
And it's not glass that broke in both of mine, it was the display under the glass, the device was not usuable after. The glass was pristine on both, for that matter the both phones were as well, just the display cracked.
You can do what you want with the info, I'm just letting people know what happened with my 2 devices.
When you keep you phone in your pocket, make sure you always keep the screen against your leg. I broke my first Galaxy S2 with the screen out in my pocket when I leaned against a table.
I am shocked that the 2nd time with having a GLAS.t tempered glass that it broke.
You spend this kind of money on phone...treat it like your car....GENTLE. I have had a smartphone for years and not even 1 scratch on any phone I have ever owned. It is like your girlfriend or wife...Gently...
Very expensive way to learn.

Let's be realistic. It's no secret this phone is easily broken. And tbh, when you say something like "it's all your fault because you dropped it is a bit ridiculous. I've dropped my gs2 more times than I can count, face down, from up high, sliding across concrete etc, and the screen is still fine, but the build quality on the gs4 is seriously lacking. I'm scared to even buy one after hearing all these stories. For now I'm sticking to my gs2

How can you say the build quality is lacking if you don't even have one?
Just to be safe, think of it this way, if you drop it, it WILL crack. Of course, it might not but if you think it will every time, maybe a little more precaution will be taken. It doesn't matter if it was a mistake...just don't drop it. Any phone that is mostly screen will always have a certain level of fragility and should always be treated that way. It doesn't mean the build quality is bad.

Or like telling your wife about your girlfriend... handle it very carefully... like your life depends on it.
Samsung does extensive hard use testing on its handsets so I wonder if this was a bad batch or something. Thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully we don't see a bunch of these threads popping up.

Ya my S4 broke too, dropped mine 2 or 3 feet in a case and the screen shattered, build quality is not there imo
