Battery Status Info - Captivate General

Today is my first day with more or less normal usage pattern with the Captivate. I've been watching the battery on the status bar with interest. Decided to look at charge level through Settings > About Phone > Status, and while the status bar graphic looks to show a battery at ~80-85% capacity, the actual number was 62%. Sure would be nice to have a better depiction of the situation on the status bar...

Same here. Looks like mine is at least 50% in the taskbar but is "actually" 29%. Is there a way to revert to the default android taskbar?

Really, someone needs to write an app for these phones that does away with the battery graphic and just shows you the percent number (Like they do on the iphones).
Cant believe nobody has done this for android yet.

This gives you a widget, which is decent. But on the iphone in the upper corner, there is no silly batter graphic, it shows you a number percentage(i.e. 82%), that way you know exactly how much battery life is left.

Battery Status Indicator in the marketplace seems to work. There are a bunch of other ones, none that I have found that actually replace the stock battery icon. It just displays another battery icon with the % in the status bar.

it is the same issue with my nexus one, the battery icon looks like 80% left and the status screen shows 60ish%. it must be an android os issue. the funny thing is that the x10a i had seemed to show a much better representation of actual life left. i used to use my battery status from the market and it would just show the % of life left all the time in the top left corner of the status bar

Yep, I've noticed the same. I think that the battery indicater doesn't change untill after you reach the threshold for state... So it doesn't show two bars missing until you hit 59/60%. its very annoying.
One of my coworkers had an app that places a percent indicater in the notification bar... Ill be looking into getting that.

I think the battery icon is only showing 4 or 5 stages of battery life, and it's very underhanded because it shows more than what it actually has.
a full battery is > 75%
slight sliver is 74% - 50%
orange is 49% - 25%
red is < 25%
I would love to have the icon replaced with something more accurate.

Battery Indicator on Notification Bar

Is everyone else's Stock Battery Indicator ridiculous inaccurate? I'm at 42% battery life currently (widget/spare parts) and the stock indicator shows a level around 65-75%.

it's not 'inaccurate' samsung has set it like that. but if you want to tweak it, try search around.

Ah, correction, rather than inaccurate it just rounds up generously.

Yea, that's common. They don't have very many level drops.
If anyone finds an app that can overlay a % (or replace it with a %) on top of the STOCK ICON, that'd be awesome. There's some that add an additional icon but I don't want that, that's just stupid to have two battery icons...
Also if anyone finds an app that can overlay a dBm signal in place of the signal strength meters that'd be awesome, too.

Yes, I was wanting a NEW battery gauge, one that shows the percentage, not the ridiculous stock icon thats off by a mile. Also, I'm with you I dont want two battery icons up there. I guess its harder than I think it should be to create an app that does that.
I'd assume since it's the TouchWiz UI that something specific to the Captivate would have to change the icon... That's my assumption anyway, I'm not a developer.

You guys might want to try System Info Widget in the Market. Pretty good and definitely accurate.
What annoys me is that Samsung has the numerical info in the about screen, so why not just create a toggle so we can go from bar to numeric....
I think they pulled an Apple and wanted the bars to always look bigger.
I installed Battery Widget (the one with over 250K downloads)... Best thing for now...
I noticed the same thing right away... Not sure if they thought users would miss this but its a little misleading..
Battery status widget works for me.

HTC battery widget

Yesterday I had an interesting event with my T-Bolt. The HTC battery widget was reporting 35% when I did a reset. After the reset it was reporting 16%. That’s a 19% reduction in the battery after the reset. The widget reported 16% for the next 5 hours during light usage. This is the second time this has happen to me. This is my first android phone and I did a quick search but is the widget bugged or is there a better widget/app?
Thanks

I had the same thing happen not with the widget but with the battery icon on VirusROM. It changes the battery icon on the top right to a number with a nice graphic circle-bar around it. It was at 32% and when I rebooted the phone it went down to 19% and stayed there for quite a while before "catching up" I suppose and starting to go down again.
So you aren't alone on that--it's probably just a little glitch. Rebooting doesn't actually take 10-15% of your battery (I don't think). It actually does seem to take up a lot of battery though (just from observation--around 2-3% per reboot [don't know how much this differs from other phones]).
I never noticed this on my EVO, but on my Epic it did the same thing, and my TB does the same as well. It's not just the HTC widget. I use systray monitor which adds your battery percentage to the upper left area of your notification bar.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
In my experience it really in the neighborhood of 5 to 7% per boot. The batt widget has done the same thing to me a couple times though where it'll drop like a rock in reboot then hang there for a while.

I have had this issue as well. From what I can tell, the battery indicator is evidently way off and it's very strange indeed...
I have constant problems with it too. I recommend Da BAMF, which has seemed to be spot on.
Noticed this as well... does it really eat that much power to reboot the phone? I noticed mine does a few "vibration" cycles as well upon reboot... Stock ROM just rooted with the "easy root + S-OFF" method

Changing battery indicator on stock?

Is there anything that I can flash to get a battery indicator in the notification bar that shows the percentage on stock?
I don't want to flash another rom since stock had been stable for me.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
You might be able to pull the framework-res.apk from the phone and edit it, then push it back. But I haven't seen anything to prove you can. I think stock had an LG version of framework-res as well, not sure which has the battery stuff in it.
I had the Big battery Notifier installed and it showed the percentage in increments of 1%. After having uninstalled it, I find it more bearable to go all day without charging, because when I see the battery draining and dropping 1% within a few minutes, I get anxiety.
Now just seeing the battery icon, and how it displays just color to signify how much approximate charge there is, it feels more comforting just knowing it's more than half full without being very specific about it to make me nervous.
Bottom line, I suggest just leaving the stock battery indicator, or install a real specific one and get battery anxiety.
The Dark Sinister Taskbar available in his thread works great with the stock rom. Its s black taskbar with a blue percentage battery indicator.
Hi, I tried making my own and it is a flashable zip thru cwm.
It is for 2.2.2. Just try it. Make sure you do a nandroid backup in case something wrong happens.
I already tried it with eb1.05, sinister1.2, ultimate1.0 and stock.

[Q] Blue stripe in battery use menu

Hi guys!
I have quite a serious question for you )) Please remember, I can not sleep until you give me the right answer.
So, if u take ur Desire S (or I believe any other HTC android phone) and go to Settings -> About Phone -> Battery -> Battery use, then u will be able to see a graph just at the top of the screen (and a title "(xx)h (yy)m (zz)s on battery" over the graph). I guess you all going to cry when you see this menu, because it's only few per cent battery remaining although u unplug the charger just twelve hours before. OK, sorry for flood. My question: there is a tiny blue stripe under the graph. Sometimes it interrupts. What does this stripe indicate?
PS. You know, many people complain to battery drain. And battery seems to drain faster just at the moments indicated by this stripe. Does anybody notice smth like this?

Without checking as phone isn't to hand at the moment, I believe that this is when the Screen is ON, considering that the Screen/Display is always the main user of phone battery, it's no surprise that the graph dips when this bar occurs.
Hope that you can sleep soundly now.
Mmm... ben_pyett, are u completely sure it's Screen_ON indicator? Unfortunately I don't know how to make a screenshot as I'm using stock ROM now, but believe me I saw blue stripe on my Desire S and it lasts for at least 5 hours. Then it interrupts and begins and interrupts again and so on. And I'm completely sure that the screen was not ON all this 5 hours.
PS. Stil not sleeping.
If you tap on the map it enlarges it to full screen with a breakdown of what the blue bar means
Wow!! det66, man, you're magician! How did u find it out?
Thanks anyway. In my case "awake" mode seems to drain the battery.
PS. Go to bad with a great pleasure ))

By luck ..but mostly the screen being on is the main battery killer

Droid Maxx Battery Drain

After the latest OTA, my battery has been draining very quickly, to the point where I can only get 6-8 hours out of a full charge. Is anyone else having this problem? Or does anyone have any ideas of how to fix it?
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
I think more information is needed. What version you on? What apps draining it? The more information you provide, the more help you can get.
Settings / battery usage. Tap the graph - if the awake graph shows a lot of blue, you have an app (or more than one) holding the phone awake. The settings / battery usage first screen may give a clue what that is.
One other thing to look at is a corrupted Google sync. Settings, tap "Google" under accounts. If you see an item with a red circle rather than a green circle, it is having sync problems. That can drain battery fast.
Thanks for the replies. I believe it was simply a combination of switching to a new app for texting (EvolveSMS, which is great, by the way) that turned on my screen whenever I received a new text and being in a big city on vacation where I'm not getting the consistent signal strength I'm used to.

I'm having the same issue. I did a full factory restore of the new update, loaded the same apps as I previously had from scratch (no titanium) and my battery is draining rapidly. No run away apps at all. Probably getting 1/3 the life as I was previously.
