Hi guys!
I have quite a serious question for you )) Please remember, I can not sleep until you give me the right answer.
So, if u take ur Desire S (or I believe any other HTC android phone) and go to Settings -> About Phone -> Battery -> Battery use, then u will be able to see a graph just at the top of the screen (and a title "(xx)h (yy)m (zz)s on battery" over the graph). I guess you all going to cry when you see this menu, because it's only few per cent battery remaining although u unplug the charger just twelve hours before. OK, sorry for flood. My question: there is a tiny blue stripe under the graph. Sometimes it interrupts. What does this stripe indicate?
PS. You know, many people complain to battery drain. And battery seems to drain faster just at the moments indicated by this stripe. Does anybody notice smth like this?

Without checking as phone isn't to hand at the moment, I believe that this is when the Screen is ON, considering that the Screen/Display is always the main user of phone battery, it's no surprise that the graph dips when this bar occurs.
Hope that you can sleep soundly now.
Mmm... ben_pyett, are u completely sure it's Screen_ON indicator? Unfortunately I don't know how to make a screenshot as I'm using stock ROM now, but believe me I saw blue stripe on my Desire S and it lasts for at least 5 hours. Then it interrupts and begins and interrupts again and so on. And I'm completely sure that the screen was not ON all this 5 hours.
PS. Stil not sleeping.
If you tap on the map it enlarges it to full screen with a breakdown of what the blue bar means
Wow!! det66, man, you're magician! How did u find it out?
Thanks anyway. In my case "awake" mode seems to drain the battery.
PS. Go to bad with a great pleasure ))

By luck ..but mostly the screen being on is the main battery killer

Hi all,
My 6 days old Sensation (Vodafone contract UK) discharge a huge amount during Standby (200-350mA). I got the number via Battery Widget Pro 1.65. For the first few days I did deplete the battery fully before charging it to full. Today I have factory reset it to the original condition at around 4pm with 58% battery full. Now at 9pm, it is only 18%. During this time, I spent about 1 hour with the phone, the rest is standby. I set the widget to monitor with 1 minute interval and when looking at the log file, it can be seen that the phone consumed from 200-400mA during the standby time. Coming from HD2 with Android modded 3-8mA standby consumption, this is a huge huge dissapoinment!
Is this because of my battery or is this my phone? Should I ask for a replacement? What about you, did you see similar pattern?
Thanks,
Duong

Ditto!! So annoyed since I too am coming from HD2 where HyperDroid's consumption had dropped to a flat 2mA in standby. This is insane for a native android device. Not to mention the heating while playing games and most importantly, the front facing camera producing upside down image during fring video chats.. grrr!
Dunno what the cause OR solution is (besides switching over to a custom rom if and when the BL gets unlocked and people like pongster develop for this device)...
Overall, sexy device but disappointed with such major holes left unattended..
A little offtopic but was a battery related questions and did not wanna start a new thread so posting here -
Does anybody know of if there's any app which can get the battery percent to show in the top bar instead of the default indicator?
Thanks

Any ideas on how I can do that? I tried using current widget but I guess because it's not rooted, current widget showed me a log of 0mA all throughout (yeah rite! hehe)
when I figure it out myself I'll let you know.
Current things I found that killed my battery over night: VTOK & Google Latitude
I went into Settings --> About Phone --> Battery --> Battery Use and checked, and it says display is eating most of my battery.
As far as mine, I get about 12 hours of battery life with standard usage, with the display eating most of the life, so if you're saying the screen is off, you might get different results...

well it certainly sounds like a part of it is specimen issue.. here's my latest experience... last few times i have let it completely discharge and then charge back while the phone was off so i dont mess with it... once 100% charged, i switched the phone on and received a call.. a 25 minute conversation ate away 15% of my battery... LOL...
then, (now it gets better)... in 2 hrs of standby, the phone was at 60% which means it lost another 15% battery in 2 hrs of "standby".. im not sure if i can even call that state a "standby" anymore...
anyways... im wondering if its worth pinning hopes on rom development on our forum or should i just return this and go with something like nexus S which, O well, I can live with... atleast it has a 3300mA batterypack available... what's the use of kickass speeds and features if i have to use a phone like a desktop..
Hey, I have pretty bad battery drain during stand by as well I recommend trying to adjust the sync accounts, esp HTC hub and how often it updates that should improve it...I have a bunch of HTC widgets set up so im suspecting that being the reason for battery drain during stand by also adjust your email update setting accordingly. Every little bit helps!
Battery gauge stuck at 100%
Another one slightly off topic - but why start another battery thread.
It is the second day with my Sensation, and since I took the phone off the charger this morning, the battery gauge has been stuck at 100%. All other apps reading the battery status (e.g. Battery Widget) show the same number. I rebooted the phone multiple times, replaced the battery - nothing - permanent 100%. Has anyone had a similar experience? Did I get a perpetuum mobile ?
BTW the readings were fine yesterday.

Thanks for the pointer.. I will surely try that and see if it makes a difference..
That being said, call me crazy but it just occurs to me that HTC should be putting in some minimal efforts to check off basic quirks like battery consumption and QC. I mean all of us are spending a buttload of money on these devices year over year and then we rely on our devs here to give us basic functionality. Back in the days the reason people joined forums was to tweak devices.. Now it almost feels like we might as well expect only the hardware for the price we pay... disappointed!
Anywho...
I fully charged the phone before I went to bed last night. Eight hours later, the battery is at 10%. Is there something wrong with the battery?
Try using the Spare Parts app to see what's really using the battery in detail.
Hi, for galaxy i9003 is there a tweak to reduce auto brighness levels more than the stock levels. Default values are very high, if it can be battery consumption will also decrease.
There is some tweaks on forum, but they are for other phones likes desire, etc.

there's an app in the market for that, called screen filter. go check it out.
Atleast say thanks to above member ^ for helping u !!
supergaijin: i checked the apps that you adviced. I think It is not a real reduce brightness, because when i set lower brightness, it adds a dark layar to the screen, i am not sure that it can help for battery comsuption, because screen looks like black with brightness, also in description developer says that reduce battery consumption for amoled screens. I9003 is not an amoled screen.

lol, I guess I got fooled thanks for pointing that out. now I'll just set my display at the lowest setting without using the filter and see if my consumption changes. if so, I guess it's not so useful after all, and I'll join your tweak request
you dont need to have an app for that...
try this:
press and hold status bar above and slide it to the left if you want to decrease brightness and slide to the right if you want to increase it ..
hope it helps..

some of us know that trick already (I learned it by reading this forum), but even for those that don't, it's just a shortcut instead of going into settings>display>brightness and turning it up and down.
the tweak that's being requested is to be able to make it go lower than the stock lower limit.
--------------------------
lol, I really did get caught by that app. shoulda read this line first: "Applies a shade that acts as a dimmer to ensure your eyes don't hurt." so yeah, not gonna save battery life if just adding shade on full brightness gonna test some other market stuff now, see if anything will save us from needing this tweak

It's been set that way so that the phone actually turns on, There is a default value in which the phone reads and is aware that it's actually displaying, If you lower the value than the actual, don't forget this is an SLCD, It requires you to burn a few crystals at a preset level so it actually displays something when they are heated, if the crystal's don't get cooked to a certain level it won't display anything or get cooked at all that's the reason why LED phones can have their display really low and not LCD. If you've taken IT fundamentals, you would know that LCD stands for liquid crystal display and LED is light emitting diode and you would notice that LCD monitors take some time to boot up compared to LED due to the crystal heating factor. Sadly LCD consumes quite the battery for the larger the DPI or Brightness. This is one of the major factor's why there are no apps or people who have made apps that drop the values lower than stock.
And to the guy telling to say thanks, This isn't Facebook to press thanks for every post, it's an optional button and entitled for people who actually do help/people who's work you actually appreciate. That's why It's limited to 5 per day.

juiceplotter graphs can be useful here. like continuously using 2g connection to browse the net for certain duration n monitoring the drain for that period.
but battery calibration n background services also need to b taken into account.

you ruined my surprise!
after this thread was opened and I learned that screen filter was not helping anything, I found superdim (needs superuser and root).
since I was testing my battery just before installing it, I can say it is working, at least a bit!
before installing it, these were my battery stats, starting from 100% charged:
running on battery: 9 hr 18 min, 70% remaining
display on-time: 1 hr 22 min (75% of usage)
angry birds: 26 min (11% of usage)
cell standby: 9 hr 18 min (6% of usage)
all others are 5% or less.
after installing superdim and setting the screen to 20/255, here are my stats, starting from 100% charged:
running on battery: 1d, 4m, 1% remaining
display on-time: 8 hr, 26 min (71% of usage) * this was mostly used for aldiko, reading a good book by stephen king
angry birds: 30 min (8% of usage)
wi fi: 1 hr (forgot it was on, lol), no battery stat provided
cell standby: 1d, 4 min (6% of usage)
all others are 4% or less.
doing calculation extrapolation, we can see the display eats less overall battery:
*only angry birds and display consumption percentages changed by more than 1%, but angry birds was close to the same, so only display consumption is calculated *
before installing:
70% after 9 hrs = 30% drained in 9 hrs = 3.33% per hour of phone run time
75% of 30% drain = 22.5% battery usage by display
22.5% usage/1.5hr = 11.25% battery consumption per hour of display on-time
--------
after installing and setting at 20/255:
1% after 1 day = 99% drained in 24 hrs = 4.125% per hour of phone run time
71% of 99% drain = 70% battery usage by display
70% usage/8.5hr = 8.3% battery consumption per hour of display on-time
keep in mind that this shows moderate to heavy use, since I was intentionally using the display alot. a more reserved use of the phone should get you closer to 2 days between charges or longer

thanks for the info. that explains why they have the warning that certain phones won't operate if you set the value too low
so, does this mean that even superdim is just pretending to actually do something, and my apparent battery savings was just random?

Hello,
Since last week I have been noticing that the battery drains pretty fast. I'm running on Mokee RC3 with JbX .7b(26/7). I find the same issue on liquid smooth too.
Not running any applications. All are hibernated using greenify. The phone runs on ktonservative itself. Most of the time the screen was off say more off. I'm attaching the screenshots of the battery stats and so on. Tried clearing the battery cache and so on but didnt work. WIFI off, 3G off, GPS off
I know that there are many posts on battery drain around, I tried searching and didnt find a similar issue and I've got this feeling that its my battery dying.
Kindly help me.
Edit: Mods, Please move it to Q& A. It was an accident putting it in General

Your screen was 71% of the overall battery usage. Are you sure the screen was off the whole time? I see in your first screenshot that the screen was on almost half of the time (the blue line under the graph at the top). If this was indeed while you were sleeping then I would say that you have an app that not only wakes the phone but also turns on the screen.

Hey guys,
thanks for your replies.. I was soo irritated with this drain. some issues with the battery stats too i guess.. coz when I get into bmm and choose system 4, its showed 99% charge always and for the remaining roms, it displayed it right.
Due to impatience, I deleted all those *.img's and created new ones..installed mokee on a different system . Now i guess its fine.

I've noticed that sometimes BMM will show 99% battery regardless of what the actual battery percentage is. I've never thought much of it, and I have learned to not rely on it to give a correct reading in regards to the battery. I strongly suspect that was the culprit with your issue then, just a matter of an incorrect battery reading.

Hi,
A good practice would be to wipe the battery stats when you install a new ROM.

stock alarm app, no. but you do have a lot of wakelocks. when the screen is shown off, your device should be asleep. your device shows a lot of activity when your screens off(ironically, not when the supposed battery drain happened though, so i cant say thats why it drained).
Do you have the horrid camera bug?
Do you use exchange at all? I've had a lot of phones (android mostly htc and iphones) hit bugs from exchange in push mode and burn through their battery really quickly constantly trying to sync and hitting an error.
I charge mine on my dresser next to my head, and also use it as an alarm, I'd recommend charging it over night

I'm guessing this http://www.androidcentral.com/googl...cpu-usage-bug-fix-coming-next-android-release
I found it by googling "Nexus 5 horrid camera bug" lol, first link
Stock apps have no such issue as till date.Except for apps that use internet /wifi consume a lot of battery. So switch of those frst or keep ur cell on flight mode. The battery consumption may be due to gplay service, account sync, gmaps etc. I don't own a nexus device but I have experienced this kind of behaviour with my phone sometimes with a hot back cover sometimes.Try using apps like greenify to control this prob(or switch of ur network @ night/use lower cpu values + governers like powersave/conservative)
Hi
my atrix 2 is losing 1 % battery in a minute, in 20 minutes it went down to 80% after a full charge. its happening since yesterday. also my lcd has a big dead pixel on top left looks like solar eclipse. could it be because of that? i've not installed anything in the phone lately. i put in another battery but it is the same thing. battery drains out to 0 in an hour.
whats the problem? it shows screen usage super high on idle !?
any advise
thanks

Firstly...there is a million reason for battery leak like that "could be software or hardware"
Secondly... go HERE and download the excellent app BBS (Better Battery Status) to report which app is exactly eating your battery "note that download section is in the second post of BBS thread"
also there is known bug in Atrix 2 "and old RAZR I guess" which report a fake screen consumption and push it to the top consumers "it doesn't matter if you have a hardware black dots problem or not" so those black dots are not the battery problem.....BTW here is a great way to solve your LCD and get rid of those black pixels HERE
Another great solution.....reboot your phone in safe mode "which means that no downloaded apps will run in background" only the sock apps will run normally How to do that (( just press the power button until you see the "Power Off" dialog then press and hold "Power off" option until you see a message asking you to reboot in safe mode press yes and voila )) if you want to load apps again and back to normal just restart as normal again.
then wait and see if the battery still drains that fast or not
NOTE: I'm not really sure that safe mode feature exist on ICS 4.0.4 or not! as I'm on 4.4 kitkat along time ago :
i think the big blue dot is the problem. the phone is hot all the time. and the dot is hottest part of the screen. i can feel it on my thumb , the rest of the screen isn't hot. now i see that the aura around the big dot is getting bigger n bigger, and it displays screen usage high in idle. here are the BBS screenshots. i am going to put the phone in the fridge and hope it solves the problem.
About getting hot...it's normally that your whole phone gets hot as it didn't enter "deep sleep" but that's really strange that that dot is more hot than other screen parts as the screen is just a very thin glass over a kind of steel to reflect light, that steel plan surface is just above the main board which leaks heat so it means that there is a direct contact between the main board and the screen on that faulty part "maybe because you have pressed on that part too much"
anyway to make sure that apps in not the problem, try to turn off WIFI and reboot in safe mode or at least turn off sync and other apps manually "as your phone has entered deep sleep only for 17m while the processor keeps running at highest level 1ghz for along time".
before the blue dot it had only a thin line in that area which turn into this big blue splotch, it happend because i was trying to pull out my Atrix 2 out of the case. I bend to much probably then the next day the thin line appeared then after 2 weeks that line became this big dot., im really frustrated now. i will just replace the lcd.
thanks alot for helping
alright i replaced the LCD and the battery drain is the same. i even reflashed the stock rom , battery cant be the problem coz i put another battery it drains out just like the other one. and my front camera is disabled. could that be eating the bettery?

Try Greenify or check what is causing wake locks....as ur fone seems to be showing high usage even while idle. :silly:
i monitored BBS and it shows high usage in "Deep Sleep" battery drain rate is 58.8%/hour. i installed paranoid android in system 3 but drains just like stock rom. my front camera is disabled it doesn't show up anywhere,
in partial wake locks - audioOUT_1 in on top
in kernel wake locks - caif_hsi is on top

You can try install PA on your main system..as you say PA rom give you the stock battery draining...
but make sure you use PA minimal gapps bcoz our main system has limitation for system data ...
PA rom does not give me stock battery draining, stock rom was draining my battery even before installing PA 2 months ago. i thought my LCD was the problem because it had huge black dot on it, i changed LCD myself now i still have the battery drain problem, is there anything i can try before i lose hopes and send it to motorola repair center?
