newbie question: which ROM is most stable - HTC Vox

New to the site and have never upgraded the ROM on my Orange E650 (still running original ROM version 1.35.61.1). Just had it sim unlocked by jockyw2001 as I need to port my number over to another provider due to signal issues.
Have read through some of the posts and am interested in flashing it with one of the WM6.5 ones. Could you tell me which one is the most stable? The only applications I use on the phone are the browser and skype although only for IM as the call quality is very poor even when using the wifi connection.
Thanks,

i use wm 6.1 v1.1(from Dr. Martin Gonzo). is the most stable and fast in my opinion. whit default home screen, it take about 2 seconds to rotate image when sliding. so..is the faster for me. i recomand it! the wm6.5 ones take higher to rotate screen with the 6.5 home screen

Thanks I'll give that a try this weekend.

Hi Sfan1, I am using fireburned's WM6.5Clean3.1 since a half year on my Vox allmost without any problems (bluetooth handsfree in my car sometimes make trouble, but not often). I think standby time is normal (I tired other ROM's and it is nearly the same - WLAN need much power, without using WLAN standby time is okay (okay not comparable with Nokia), Titanium homescreen is nice, and in total it is a very good ROM.

The "my TyTn works just fine" post

I get scared real easy, and I'm now starting to worry about the TyTn. Several people are now reporting problems with these devices, including serious hardware problems.
So please comfort me; your TyTn works just great right?........righ?
Mine is fine so far, no key problems or screen alignments only problem i have is slow access to web sites with tmobile
Cheers
Chris
This is a good idea, but unfortuntely your going to get a pretty skewed result seen how most ppl that have issues are on these boards because they want to resolve them, if your device is working fine its less likely you will be at this juncture to post 'all's well'.
It seems a massive amount of problems seem to be directed to the Vodaphone models and not necessarily the TyTN models. Also other forums arent reporting wide spread problems, and furthermore I just spoke (email) with 2 other Australians who had purchased HTC TyTNs from USA, and they havent had any issues with their devices.
I hope this information is of some comfort to you. If it helps I had the same feeling with the jasjar as it had widespread complaints, although m ainly software ones which I knew could and were addressed.
Trion ... Can't stop singing praises
Really happy with my Trion.
I had started with the original XDA which was the first one of it's kind and kind of cool but that quickly fell out of use due to the phone usability and the need to always use a stylus. I was really happy with the Smartphones as it really was usable using one hand but when the Trion came out I thought it was time to take the plunge back to a PPC, well at least as a office phone. Haven't looked back. Thejog dial button works a charm and with all the extra buttons you can actually use the Trion full time without use of the stylus. WLAN functions perfectly even with Skype. Push email functions like a charm syncing contacts and calander, tasks and email instantly (I recommend mail2web as a cheap way of implementing push email). A2DP actually works and is finally usable especially with the A2DP improvement hack. Now listening to music is crystal clear with no skipping (I'm using the Motorola HT820 which gives start stop pause functionality and with some other hacks you can program the speaker button to trigger programs such as voice command). Tomtom works fine. Definately the 400 Mhz CPU has made the Trion function well with most apps.
The size is slightly smaller than the Wizard but it actually makes a huge difference. Pictures are actually usable with 2MP and a flash light which helps a bit as well.
I finally found the perfect business phone I can use!
TYTN
Mine work fine now for 3 weeks w/o any soft reset.
English version from the Netherlands
Only 2 time (in the night) he was crashed but I think it's because I use pocket wakeup.

Mine is fine (vodafone v1605) although I cant get vodafone live just a blank screen but the rest of the web is great. No Issues after a hard restet when I first got it, it seems I wasnt the first person with it as I didnt have to set it up and it had 2 minutes on the call timers. But apart from that mine works great.
hey,
i've had my v1605 for a total of 22 hours now. I got mine on a wicked upgrade deal (released from contract for free and got handset for free too)

My XDA Trion working just perfectly and without any problem at all...thanks god ^^

Is it worth it?

That's the question to the WM6 upgraders. Please comment if you've made the generic upgrade. Should you have stayed with WM5, waited for the official release, or happy you used a generic ROM? Thanks for your comments!
unlike other HTC products official update to wm6 make me no problems at all now.
no buggy cameras, no short battery life, no slow system issues....
I just upgraded my phone and my wife's to WM6. I use all of the registry tweaks and such with my phone so WM5 was usable for me prior to the upgrade. However my wife does not like all of that extra stuff so she was running WM5 in it's default configuration and she was constantly complaining about hers. I used the generic upgrade on both phones and I found that there was not as much stuff that needed tweaking on mine and she doesn't complain about her phone (in it's default configuration) at all anymore. In both cases the OS seems a lot more efficient and stable, plus the generic release is missing most of the try & buy/at&t bloatware crap that comes with the branded release. Bottom line I say go for it, you'll be pleased.

My device is a Telstra (Australia) branded WM5 Treo. I upgraded a few weeks back to the generic WM6 ROM because Telstra still does not have their WM6 ROM released, whereas other carriers (3 and Voda) have had their ROMs out for months. In the end I couldn't wait.
Anyway, the upgrade went fine and I am much happier with WM6. It is faster in every way, especially when answering a call. Where previously under WM5 there seemed to be a delay of 2-3 seconds between pressing the answer button and actually being connected, it is now instantaneous.
It may only sound small, but the new speakerphone and mute buttons on the active call screen are very handy!
The only weird thing I have noticed is that when you open a Calendar item to view (i.e. not edit) the left soft key used to be "Edit" on WM5 but on WM6 it is "Reply" and it is greyed out as you'd expect because it is not an email message! I can't figure out why Palm made that particular change.
Aside from that, it's all good!

Newbie needs your help in choosing a phone

hello,
first of all let me thank you for a brilliant forum. I was looking for a forum with loads of information on pocket pc phones and i guess i found you guys.
Okay I'm a total newbie and I need help with choosing between three phones and i'm extremely confused as to what i should choose.
I'm with orange and they are offering me:-
1. NOKIA N95 (Not the black edition, but does come with 8gb) - Has all the features, but i've heard these are very buggy and slow
2. TYTN II - Has all the features that i need, except the keypad is eithier virtual or i have to pull out the keyboard to make calls, which is a NO NO
3. TOUCH DUAL - Now this phone is the dream i was wishing for..i.e there is a keypad which exists, allowing me to quickly make calls, but then it has NO GPS and NO WI-FI .
My problem is that all phones have their advantages and disadvantages and therefore make it difficult for me to choose. Here is what i'm looking for:-
1. The phone must have a hard keypad (Not a keyboard or virtual keypad) to make immediate calls.
2. GPS is not immediately needed, but i hope that i can add it in the near future
3. WI-FI again is not urgently needed, but i hope that it can be added later in future
4. The phone software must be very adaptable software wise
5. Must be unlockable to all networks
6. Needs to have a decent battery life
I especially want to know about the Touch Dual..can this give me what i need?
Your help is much appreciated
i would check out the asus ones recall them at least having the keypad
Touch Dual
Its worth the sacrifice (WiFI, GPS and Battery).
I do not even use my Kaiser anymore.

Which ones are the asus ones? Never heard of them.
The other problem is that i can only stay with orange network as they are offering me a good tariff for cheap price:-
1400 xnet minutes
unlimited landline calls
unlimited calls to 4 chosen family/friend numbers
They only have given me the choices that i mentioned earlier and i don't think they do an asus.
how about a HTC vox. Wifi is there with a decent battery life (provided you need wifi occasionally, which seems to be the case). But remember there is no inbuilt GPS. The phone is fast after I have upgraded to Dr Martin Gonzo's windows 6.1 rom. In fact wifi and issues with qualcomm processor in touch were the main reason that I opted for the vox. I am pretty satisfied with the phone.
thanks for replying gogiasiddhartha, but i think you guys have misunderstood what i was trying to say.
I can only choose a phone from www.orange.co.uk and they do have a limited range.
Would someone be kind enough and have a quick glance at what they are offering pls and let me know.
thanks very much again.
Out of the three mentioned in the link provided HTC TyTn II wins hands down.
Hopefully with a rom upgrade and soon to be released drivers from HTC, the phone would become as good a device as it was expected to be. Cost would be a prime consideration though.
U should check out the Asus P750. Mine P525 doesn't have GPS but still work great (even compare w/ my latest toy ATT Tilt/Tytn II except no 3G and GPS)

HTC S 710

Hi everyone, the great great great fourm...
I need advice from you...
I purchase S710 that was locked for some swiss network. The salesman told me that he somehow unlocked it and I can now use it on any network that i want....but I think that he broke it
First issue
-1- Battery life
The battery last 24 hours, I do not have TomTom, my wirelles and bluetooth are off, all power settings are ajusted to increase battery life. Dispalys goes blank after 30 sec. I even do not use it so much (2,3 SMS, 1 call...) whatever I do battery cannot last longer.
-2- Lost connectivity with GSM operater
This is serious issue. It shows full connectivity but no one can reach me, moreover when I try to call the call failed. Only reset (turn off and back on) helps . I have some old nokia and it has also full sinal and is availabe. Both devices are at same operator. All this brings the conclusion that there is something wrong with the new device.
It has wm6.0 and I serously think about flashing.
Do you think that it might help?
Thank you
Igor
About Batery Life Conversation you can read HERE
I dont know anything about signal or chanel. someone should know about this. just wait
in my experience, Im try to flash a vox ROM to another Rom.so I found a best Radio and flash it for my signal and place. it will save your batery life..
hope its help.
thanks
Sure it helps...
Yes, check what Radio version you have, there might be a newer one. Look in the Wiki for more details!
Upgraded to Dr Gonza ROM, It was smooth. So far so good...
Over
It is finally over, I removed dr Gonzo rom and installed WM 6.1 Clean from fireburned. I like keep things simple so that is the why I removed dr Gonzo rom and I had some issues with tornado power manager in dr Gonzo rom....
So the improvement is 400%. My baterry life increased on 4 days, the reception is great, I overall impression is that this is the best HTC device that I ever had. It looks like ordinary phone but has so much possibilites.
Thank you all for keeping this site alive
Igor
wow...its awesome... is it really long for 4days? great.. mine just 1 day w/o use wifi or bluetooth...
i realy need to buy a new batery as mine is 1-2 year old...
hey igrotti which radio that your use yours?

how to make a htc fuze a better phone overall

The HTC fuze is a great pda but a phone overall it's not... I have always had win mobile devices from moto q9h , tytn 1 and tytn2 and now htc fuze but recently i have had a blackberry bold and it is a great phone but not so great pda how can i make the fuze a better phone here are the problems
-phone goes to sleep while on a call
dont wanna use no sleep raphael it doesnt work for me
-mic is to sensative, little noises people can hear, and cant hear me when i call
-phone volume is too low
-a lag when answering
-call quality is poor
what cabs or tweaks can i use to make it better
Flash a custom rom
After getting a BB Bold, i realized how bad and laggy the fuze was. I wouldnt even try going back.
Yeah but the bold didnt seem to have every thing that the Fuze had thats why I went back to the Fuze, the fuze has a better browser( the bold was not able to go onto alot of websites like banking websites and sites with security)or was I able to get skyfire and other things but the lack of having a good phone is making me think I should'nt have traded
Use Opera Mini, Bolt, or the new skyfire coming up.

i have a Samsung Blackjack II(no Wifi, no touch screen)
it's a better 'integrated' phone, but lacking in features...
it doesn't have a touch screen, so it doesn't have to worry about accident screen presses, but it doesn't have a auto-screenoff sensor when it goes up my face
go with a 'dumbphone' if you don't want to waste time customizing, but you'll miss the features(WiFi, GPS, games...) available on a smart phone...
it took me over a week to customize my Fuze to my liking, close to the 'feeling' i have on my 'well-integrated' BJII..... there are still some quirks that i like with my BJ II(like the 'back' button actually acts like a back button... if you have a application on and press the home button to go to the home screen, the back button actually reactivates the previous screen(the application))... but i've learned to live without the quirk by using the beautiful touchscreen
Yeah it seems to me that all smartphone(non touch screen) have better call quality feature even voice command -it was excellent on both the Bold and the Moto q9h, the one on the fuze 8925 and 8525 suck most of the time it doesnt even reconize half the things i say. smartphone have great sound seems to be more stable and great call quailty
Energy ROM
You should try the EnergyROM.
I have used TouchPRO for six month with the stock HTC rom and I hated every moment. About two months ago I have discovered EnergyROM and my TP is completely changed as battery life, speed and options.
Give it a try.

I agree with your list of problem and wen't back to my Bold for the reasons you mentioned. From the threads I read in this forum, the mic/earpiece/call quality can't be fixed with a ROM. I did upgrade to the latest Fuze OS and installed the audiopara4 file.
Another annoyance, the notification popups. I had Windows Live installed and when it couldn't connect it would keep poping up notification screens constantly. The "swiping" action of the screen wasn't good either. The real deal breaker was the phone though.

Are you saying it fixes the problems with the phone? Low earpiece volume, poor call quality?
i tried the new rom from energy wm6.5 but the phone and the pda part was unstable i would slide to answer a call and the phone would still ring and i would always get missed calls.... post a link to the one you used and ill let you know what i think....i really dont want to get the phone, i love the web browsing on the fuze its awesome but i need a good phone to, oh and i have a jawbone 2 headset are there certin settings for maximum proformance
