I can you tell me your opinion between the Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10Mini.
I'm thinking in buy one of these two smartphones and I really want to know your opinion about it.
Thanks!
Comparation
i think u try samsung galaxy s because many video format like flv mkv divx wmv etc u play with built video player 2 its also updated froyo 2.2 in next months better screen front video camera etc spica is good phone but it never updated froyo and it play only divx format for battery both phones are best i use spica but now i think go for samsung galaxy s i think that for rooted u may go this site samdriod.net
Well, I too am looking at the Spica as my next phone.
Between those two I would say spica. Why? Well because of the screen size : 320 x 480 pixels, 3.2 inches, offering more compatibility with apps than the 240 x 320 pixels, 2.55 inches of the mini (that limitation can be removed via a hack or two but some problems still remain, from what i`ve read)
Spica has a larger screen and battery size, but lacks the 5mpx camera and the the proximity sensor and FM radio. (both are really optional, you can live without them.)
And don`t forget Spica`s 800 mhz processor (overclocking is possible, from what i`ve read on samdroid) versus the 600 mhz of the mini.
My word: go for the Spica!
I`m saving some money in order to get one for me, too!

the spica isnt fast even if it runs on 800 mhz. had one before my nexus running 2.1. fm radio? didnt know it had one... i dont think it does. also... it doesnt have multitouch. the camera also sucks even if its 5mp. its a cheap phone though.
just saying.... you might be disappointed.
id rather get the legend if its a mid range android.
I have a Galaxy Spica and am very happy with it. It is a very good phone for it's price imho.
The screen is good, batterylife is good, 3D performance is bad due to no drivers (fix is in the making), there is an FM-tuner but it's disabled (no hack yet), there is extra RAM that is disabled (no hack yet), the screen supports multitouch, but it's disabled (no hack yet either) so it has alot of potential.
Also, there is a nice community for custom roms and hacks, they are making a FroYo build and already compiled the DVM libs to Eclair so we have the Froyo performance :-D (~9MFLOPS)
I'd go for the Spica ;-)
Any opinions about the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10mini?
Related
From today Rogers is offering Samsung Spica for $79.99 (with 3 yrs contract). The X10 is suppose to come end of this month, but I am pretty sure X10 will be expensive. Me and some other peoples I know are confused which phone to buy (when X10 comes out). Spica seems very cheap, X10 will be expensive for its HiRes camera and 65K screen. If we compare them then the difference comes out to
Spica
800Mhz Processor, 320 x 480 pixels, 3.2 inches, 3.15 MP Android 1.5
X10
1 GB storage, 384 MB RAM, 480 x 854 pixels, 4.0 inches 8 MP Android 1.6
They are both stuck with 1.5/1.6 Android, and 800Mhz is almost same as 1Ghz (or am I wrong).
Pros for X10: 4" screen with great resolution and might get 2.0 Android (hopefully). 8MP camera with face detection and ect. Good looking shell.
Cons for X10: Who needs 8MP?? Will the Android 2.0 ever come (or just one of their fake promises to get customers)?? 4" is great but might be a bit bigger to fit in pocket (and wrong girls might get wrong impression lol).
Pros for Spics: It is CHEAP. It can play DIVX, has an additional microphone.
Cons for Spica: Camera is not that important but at least a flash is quite important. Button don't have backlight. The screen is only 3.1"
Should we just giveup on these two phones and get a Milestone instead? (everything is grt with milestone except 600Mhz processor)
What do you guys think is a better option?
don't get motorola milestone it's locked down, so you can't mess around with it. I'm also thinking of getting samsung spica...

"Locked down" what do you mean? If I get milestone it comes from expansys and it would unlocked? Or does Locked in Android phones means something else?
motorola locked down the kernel so you can't modify it.
What the **ck man I thought in Android everything is open source!!! What about Spica? or X10?
Well it has been a while since I wrote in this thread. It seems like there are ROMs for spica, not yet for x10 but they are working on it.
The key diferrences that i found for Canadian consumers are:
spica has divx player with 3.2 amoled display of 320 x 480 res and the best part is that the phone is ONLY 29.99 (with 3yrs contr) and is soon going to get 2.1.
X10 has 4" TFT screen of 480 x 800 res and will get 2.0 someday hopefully.
Does anybody knows if spica has multitouch or not? (x10 does not)
The Spica's screen is afaik not an AMOLED but casual LCD.
Hello guys. And yes, i have tried the search, but idk why didnt get any answers ,tho im pretty sure there might be similar threads.
So i am planning to get a new phone, and since my friend informed me of android i instantly became a fan.
I would like to buy a low end - mid range android phone, but not sure which one. so far optimus one looks the best, but not flawless. I looked at samsungs but they are just ... err cant find the right word.... not for me, so to speak. and them darn htc's are way over priced... theyre becoming the second apple where you pay only for the name ,i like the htc legend, but its almost the same or even worse than optimus one in some specs (tho looks way cooler) and costs almost twice as much (in my country).
so.. i am kinda lost. maybe i should wait for some gingerbread updates and see if they fix optimus ones probs and then just get it.
ty for any feedback.
What carrier are you on?

You are joking...
Legend
Capacitive display (more responsive, multitouch support)
5mp camera w/ flash
unibody construction
384mb RAM
HTC Sense
Optimus
Resistive display (less responsive, no multitouch support)
3.1mp camera, no flash
Plastic body
256mb RAM
Stock android
They both have the same armv6 cpu at 600mhz, but you'll get smoother browsing on the Legend due to htc's modified browser.
Not saying you should get either, just saying, the Legend is does not have lower specs than the Optimus.

dont mean to be rude, but you sir are mixing lg optimus gt540 with optimus one also known as p500. which has exatcly the same size and pixel display as the legend, 512 ram and 2.2 android out of the box, yes it has a 3 mpix camera without flash, but that is something i dont care about. the design is plastic, some rubbery feeling, and metal strip around. really like it, feels like my old w880
edit: the carrier has no impact in my country, we dont have T mobile, orange, and so on (as in, not the same deals as u might have)

okay, i'm going to be straight up honest, in my opinion, lg has a horrible skin over android that makes the os sluggish and ugly. they however make really good harware. that's why i liked the g2x because it was stock android. honestly, if you're a first time android, i recommend the nexus line because that's how google really envisioned it to be like and you'll get the best experience with it. the nexus s is quite lovely. if you want the newest tech, then save up for the galaxy nexus. it's really expensive
LG... maybe not
Maybe totally off-topic
My father has an LG optimus one, and you know what? it's great. It's such a cool phone, but....
By the time my father bought his phone, I bought a samsung galaxy S2. I know, i know, it's more expensive that your two options, but you gotta think that the new galaxy SIII is just around the corner and so, the prices of the S2 are dropping.
I don't know if you can stretch your budget a liitle bit (maybe a lot) but I can assure you, the galaxy s2 for the first time android user is a life changer. Trust me, this is my first smartphone ever, and my last phone not even had a radio, a very loyal phone, but this is another world. Think about it, and good luck.
my first android is HTC desire

Why would you even think not investing money into a higher end phone.
First off it'll last you longer.
Second you'll have a lot more support from devs and fans.
Id never buy a cheap phone, so I suggest one of the galaxy s 2s or HTC Rezound, Vivid, or wait for the galaxy s 3/one x.

I would buy a dual core phone as the first, like the HTC Sensation or a Samsung Galaxy SII.

So I got one of the variations of this rather generic Chinese tablet and am very interested to get development on it going. Some folks over at Slatedroid (currently down for upgrades) started messing around with this tablet.
So far we have root via the normal su/superuser.apk method. There seems to be no NAND lock of any kind or no bootloader mischief going on, Either. The CPU is the same used in the Galaxy S and Tab from what I understand.
Some brave soul (username Asure on Slatedroid) also found an older kernel source for it, as well as source for some of the drivers. We've seen a couple of firmware updates going so far in the last two months or so.
These are the general tech specs for this device, and its similarly named and equipped friends (Dropad A8, Haipad M7, etc):
Dimensions: 196.5*125*14.5mm
Weight: 0.510g
LCD: Capacitive Multi-touch 2-point 7" @ 800x480
CPU: Samsung S5PV210 (ARM v7 Cortex A8) @ 1.0GHz
RAM: 512MB DDR2 RAM
Wifi: 802.11 b/g/n support
NAND: 2/4GB NAND Flash (On most models, some have no NAND or as little as 256MB)
Camera: Front Camera, 1.3MP
Battery: Dual 2250mAh batteries (also seems to change per device 'brand')
Others: USB2.0 support both normal and host mode, HDMI 1.3 output
Runs a rather generic Froyo on it. Ask me for any more info, I hope we can get more support for this going. I'd probably be willing to donate a bit to get interested (and experienced) developers going.
Is there a different thread going on about this device? Search didn't show anything.
Haven't found anything similar in XDA about it or the variants.
I'm thinking of getting it, too. Was hoping I can find more support for this device in here. Gingerbread, plausible?
This device is pretty good, but no xda support yet.
This device is basically a Galaxy Tab Wifi 4GB, as the hardware is the same.
I did a CM7 port for it. See SD for more details, XDA topic is dead
Can't believe there are no more people on XDA who have a Dropad / Haipad / Herotab. Good hardware en cheap! I hope there is a dev who can make a custom recovery for this tablet, that would make it next to perfect!
better buy a branded tablet
That herotab c8 is my second tablet that I bought it from aliexpress, yeah i know it is a lousy place but the price was much cheaper than merimobiles.
I sold back the first cheap tablet which is bloody slow and specs are very low which is under $100.
The second tablet that i bought was C8/herotab/whatever they call it. (yeah I made a mistake twice.)
Before I bought this, I read a bunch of reviews by c8 owners on youtube, including some videos posted on merimobiles. And I convinced myself that 1GHz cpu powered tablet would be great. yeah I was partially right.
Running applications + watching videos are simply awesome. avi, mkv, 1080 play flawlessly, I watch only 720p because of the file size, so watching movie on it was awesome.
cons
Unresponsive compare to Galaxy tab(i think you are going to talk about the price tag)
Compare to the crowd working on branded phone/tablet, Very few people are working on the customised rom.
And bloody heavy, yeah as a tablet half a Kg is pretty heavy.
What else.
I even planned to sell it back but now my daughter plays angry bird, watches nursery rhymes videos on it. So I leave it with her.
The worst thing is no developers at xda are interested to work on it
yes. very good machine. I just know it is generic one with many other name like Haipad M7, Dropad a8, Apad 7009. all of them have an issue in common:
either skype or fring does work on them. I am keen to know if someone has video call working on it. thanks for your input
i managed to initiate a qik videocall via wifi but it took me many calls to get a connection that didnt broke after a vew seconds.
i have installed asure's cm7 beta 0.4 + launcher pro plus with honeycomb theme and layout. works great in everyday use. after deleting the unnecessary phone related apk's the battery lasts for at least a whole at heavy use and up to 2.5 days with much standby time. im loving it. it's not perfect but it's more than you'd expect from such a lowprice device.
Hey if you want ROMS and firmware updates for this device, I think this is THE page you need

I need to replace ma aged Milestone (OG Droid) and basically this two are the only choice I have (contract, gift etc)
I like the IP67 cert. on the GO and love the idea of dual core cpu, however I am worried about the screen res HVGA on 3.5", will I go blind from the pixel size? 165 ppi
I like the screen size on One V, the ICS and the unibody, but I am worried that it won't be much of an upgrade from my old phone (running at 1 Ghz on CM7). I was looking at some quadrant benchmarks and while it is faster, its not by much. However the 512mb ram would be a huge upgrade to me (milestone locked BL, no swap apps shutdown).
As far as I can tell, they both have decent 5mp cameras and shoot nice 720p videos.
Need advice.

I have an LG Nitro HD. I like it fine, but I have been wanting another device to play around with. I will be getting a Samsung Galaxy S4 eventually, so I'd like my tinkering device to be something other than a large screen. I would love something that has a really small screen, but not a really crappy device.
Most things that I look at have had single core, 800 MHZ (or worse) CPU's. I think what I am going to end up with will be the Sony Ericson Xperia mini Pro. It has 1 GHZ Scorpion processor, 512 MB of RAM, and supports USB-OTG which is all pretty cool. http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_mini-3947.php
Does anyone have any experience with this phone? Does anyone know of a phone that is better or smaller? Also, does anyone know of any other cool, unique android devices?
I think u wont find any devices below 4' with decent enough hardware by today's standard. Either its big with full blown hardware or small but crappy and limited hardware. Yeah its sucks with current trend of bigger is better. Phone 4' and below is still much, much easier to handle with one hand than those humongous giants.

i would strongly recommend the Xperia Mini Pro. U wont regret it.
Sorry to bump thread but it's #1 forum link for "best small phone" on google
I have a htc wildfire s on android 2.3.6, as it only has 512mb rom so it can't do 4.x
Really smooth, lasts 2 days / charge (with cheap ebay battery).Glass touchscreen. Rarely notice which pocket it's in...
Also worth mention, my Desire C.
Can handle 4.x, yet no open wifi driver, works, but kinda "hacky" when not on stock rom. cheap touchscreen made of plastic. Aldo really small, but a bit longer. Battery can last 3 days.
Both phones can be bought used for under 100$.
Still waiting, I'd be willing to pay 400$ on a 720p 3.5" with a dual 1ghz, 1gb ram, that lasts 2 days on a charge, in the wildfire's size !
