i saw that, but...only one negative feedback !....meaning: r we sure there's a big issue on that ?
It's essentially the same platform as the Tytn II with a different form factor so there are more resaons to believe it will have the same video playback capabilities. The benchmarks look the same too. If it is better, that is good news because then the drivers can possibly be harvested from the Cruise.
My sugestion would be that if this is a key feature for you, wait a bit and see how it plays out for sure.
thx !
i will wait...or buy an iphone
Don't waste your money for the iPhone! The HTC Polaris can play ANY video without any issues using TCPMP 0.81.
Get it here: http://www.ppc-welt.de/community/attachment.php?attachmentid=25780&d=1199459090
I have tried both TCPMP and the newer CorePlayer on the TyTN II (same platform as Polaris) for playing downsized DivX and Xvid (320x240) and I must say it SUCKED. the playback was choppy, the sound had outages, the player was sluggish while in playback. It seems the Qualcomm chipset does not handle video playback well.

This can not possibly be true. It looks like you are deliberately trying to cause a debate. Why?
Well, I only know that my HTC Polaris play every video very well!
Believe it or not, but TCPMP 0.81 does not lag at all.

A youtube video?
How about just posting a video here and posting back the results from the 'benchmark' option in TCPMP.
I have two videos I use for testing / benchmarking this from another topic. Don't remember the topic and I'm not home right now, but if nobody comes up with one I will take them from my device and put them here.
I doubt the Polaris has the correct drivers, but if it does, ROM dump and we'll fix them up for the Kaiser in NO time (same idea we have with KS20, but KS20 drivers are not very compatible - the polaris drivers will probably work without hacks)
Please read the EDIT there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1786601&postcount=27
It only performs well below resolutions of 400xXXX. So there are NO drivers, unfortunately.
Well you can play VGA (640x480) sized videos on Polaris, see my post on the other thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1792982#post1792982
As promised, albeit a bit late, here are the two video files I have used for my own benchmarks. I have seen them used in other topics, as well as other sites.
My results, tested on Stock HTC (Dutch) TyTN II in TCPMP 0.72RC1
320x240
DDRAW: 63%
RAW: 195%
GDI: 108%
640x480
DDRAW: 24%
RAW: 75%
GDI: 62%
320x240: http://www.jongma.org/tmp/videotest320240.avi
640x480: http://www.jongma.org/tmp/videotest640480.avi
Yeah, 320x240 plays fine, but the point is that you shouldn't need to recode a 640x480 video. It should just play fine.

the 640x480 video in your link with low quality and raw ,has 152% with tcpmp 0.81
also when i try other video format(.mpg)the results are disappointed.
Ah, very good, some "cracks" are here.
So what is the highest quality I can achieve with the Cruise? Due to the fact, that I'm really out of money for the next time (damn laptop crashed), the software used should be freeware. I don't mind in downsizing to 320x240, but I want to have a minimum speed of 25fps (some people use 15fps, but I don't like that). Which codec should I use, which bitrate, which program?

Is there any reason to update to 0.81?

My experience has been good so far with the TyTN II and Coreplayer Ver 1.1.1
I followed the method given by Mrvanx on his site to convert DVD's and shrink the file size.
Average for a DVD about 500mb.
The quality of the video is good with no skipping at all.
The sound I route through my HTC bluetooth headset and is IPod standard.
I used the same software on my TyTN.
I am using the loaded TyTN II OEM software.
I am little confused
I appreciate that the Kaiser and Polaris appear to have the same problems with video.
My confussions starts here;
Will the polaris or kaiser play video back at 320x240? And if this is the case are people just a little pi**ed off that they wont play back 640x480 videos. sorry if this is a dumb arse newbie type of question!
Cheers

Video drivers

Hi guys,
hopefully will be returning my I-Mate 9502 soon, and the only device I can imagine replacing it with is a Pro.
Are video drivers present? I read a few threads, but can't find a solid answer. Can the Pro at least play VGA video at full framerate? Can it do this through TV-out? I want to be able to play a divX video from my PC without having to convert.
Also, are there any other horiffic bugs/problems that I should know about that will stop me doing basic things?
Cheers,
Mike
I would also like to know answer for that question before purchasing touch pro. I learned from the mistake of buying kaiser without getting familiar to it's bugs before buying it.
Please someone run gxmark on your touch pro and tell me what score do you get! download gxmark here
edit. with kaiser i scored somewhere around 1550. So hopefully its at least that with touch pro.. and much better.
And please, someone with touch pro, run coreplayer benchmark and any D3D benchmark apps and keep us posted. Those numbers would tell us a lot how the device is managing. This would benefit all the users who are considering to swap their kaiser to TP.
Touchscreen Bug
Yes. I am also looking forward to touch pro. Only one thing interests me and hasn't been completely answered even in diamond forum: can anyone test if THE TOUCHSCREEN BUG from devices like tytn II still exist when playing a game that requires continuous stylus on screen (skyforce reloaded for ex, or call of duty 2). i saw some videos on youtube with a guy playing an emulator on the diamond and it was flawless. If that is the case, then I'm clear to buy this puppy.

I couldn't get gxmark to work, just got a plain white screen. I'll try something else later and test the video playing if nobody else does but I'm just having dinner right now
@ukdj78
If its not an issue can you try out this http://www.glbenchmark.com/GLBenchmark_Community_Full_1_02_WM5_CM.cab , you will need to register at www.glbenchmark.com to view the results. Can you post them here please?
Can you also try running this video as well
http://www.glbenchmark.com/videos/GLBenchmarkPro_High.wmv
Thanks.
Video playing is flawless using Coreplayer, and using the TV-Out cable has absolutely no effect on performance.
I'm not a big believer in benchmarks, but out of interest I ran benchmarks Coreplayer using DirectDraw, GDI, Raw FrameBuffer and QTV Display, just to see whether "QTV display" is still much better - it isn't - they all come out at roughly 140%. So there isn't the same sort of difference that I got when using "QTV Display" on the Kaiser, but the improvement isn't needed anyway (on the Kaiser the same videos would always return benchmarks under 100% unless I used the "QTV Display").
I've tried seven different 700Mb Xvid .avi movies, and they've all work perfectly. No page tearing or stuttering using CorePlayer. Haven't tried TCPMP, but I'm sure it'd work just as well.

Just ran the test, but I have no idea whether the results are any good. They're attached though...
Just tried a selection of video files from my PC in Windows Media Player on the Touch Pro and here are my findings (Video file info determined with GSpot v2.7):
.WMV file: 640x480 29.96fps 1257kps Audio: 44100Hz stereo 64Kps:
It didn't cope too well with it to be honest, sound was ok but the video only appeared to have about half the framerate of what it should be.
.AVI file: DivX 5/6 Codec 640x480 29.97fps 3164kps Audio: PCM 48000Hz 1536kps
Didn't play the video at all - got sound only (probably no video codec on device)
.AVI file: XVid Codex 720x438 29.97fps 1991kps Audio: MP3 44100Hz 128kps
Didn't play video or sound - came up with the message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file."
.MP4 file: 640x480 24fps 1601kps Audio: MP4 48000Hz Unknown kps
Played perfectly - Very smooth and not noticeably different from performance on my PC
.MPG files: Touch Pro does not recognise this format, wanted to try a PAL DVD quality MPEG 2 file
Looks like MP4 is the way to go for video files then
@sub69
Thanks mate. Its not great, almost identical to the Diamond in 3D performance, maybe the Diamond is a wee bit superior.
Any luck playing the video?
Thanks once again .
@ukdj
Try COrePlayer(which is 20USD) or TPCMP, supports a lot more codecs.
I'll try TCPMP then, used that a lot on my Vario II to play flv files but I originally didn't bother to install it on the touch pro cos I knew it could handle flv files since it had a youtube player built in!

I should declare that I had a few things minimised in the background (ActiveSync, Calendar, Messaging, File Explorer) and push mail was running, so it wasn't exactly a scientific test and I'm sure I could get marginally better results if I could be bothered!
We would expect it to be pretty much identical to the Diamond anyway, wouldn't we?
Video is very jerky if you just try to play it in CorePlayer, but if you run a CorePlayer benchmark on it, it's as smooth as you like. Odd. Much better in WMP, but still jerky.
@sub69 I'm having a little issue with text message notifications, could you do me a quick favour and try this on your touch pro: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418089 If you want me to send you a text message to try it out Private message me with your mobile number and I'll send the word "test" to you!
The processor scores maybe higher although I doubt having minimized apps would have affected the 3D benchmarks. Since a lot of folks have mentioned that TF3D is smoother on the Pro than on the Diamond wondered if it was some changes to the 3D acceleration or better s/w optimisation of TF3D.
Did you try to play the video using QTv? Any benchmark values for the video from Coreplayer? btw, that video plays on the Kaiser at about 9-10fps.
Thanks again .
(just wanted to say this) You guys are the best! So much needed info about this, keep on going!

Don't really wanna pay $20 for testing purposes, sorry and TCPMP doesn't work either - another of the many programs I've found which don't seem to like VGA screens I'm using version 0.72RC1 is there a newer one which might work or is this the latest?
EDIT: just found another cab file for TCPMP on the Athena forum which has a different file name to mine, will give that a try!
2nd EDIT lol: No, that was no good either - it wouldn't even install!
You could try the TCPMP which was rebuilt using VS2008 (its in the dev and hacking forum i think)??
gimme a sec i'll get the URL...
EDIT: Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380387
youve probably already tried it but if not, do
EDIT 2: Im getting my Touch Pro soon after i get back from vacation (a week or so) so i will encode some vids into VGA and see how they perform, ive found coreplayer to be great so far with my Hermes so will have a straight comparison using the same files benchmarked both in QVGA and VGA versions on both devices.
Might be worth stating what kinda of formats people are using aswell (XVid/DivX, H261 etc....)
Try the one in this post, this is working on the diamond so high probability it will work on the touch pro.

Thanks,
I found changing the "Normal buffer size" to about 8000 kb improves video playback dramatically of an XVid file. This video was designed for the Tilt however with a 320x240 video size. I'll have to wait and see how it plays something at 640x480.

I guess that the smoother TF3D on the Raphael will be because it's a later build (later than any I ever saw in my Diamond ROM's, anyway).
Didn't get a percentage value for that video...I guess that because of the filetype, CorePlayer "benchmarks" it differently? CorePlayer just told me the bitrate and properties of that high-def file when I ran it's benchmark to the end. Again, QTV, DirectDraw, RawFrameBuffer, and GDI all looked pretty much identical to my untrained eye, but this time I didn't have percentage values to confirm that...
Can i play a 700MB 640x480 X-Vid (or wmv,...) file on a touch pro with coreplayer smoothly? or even a 2x700MB movie? (-->means double bitrate)
Sorry if the question is stupid, but i always read no concrete answer. (means YES or NO)

Vlc player?

Hi All
Is there or is there not a Vlc player for the WM. I have read various forums and followed dead links and would like to know oce and for all does this exist or not and if so does anyone have a working link to the download the app.
Many thanks in advance
Is this is what you're looking for ?
http://portableapps.com/news/2010-02-01_-_vlc_media_player_portable_1.0.5
A.F.A.K there is no VLC the best freebee you will find is TCPMP or if you wish for the up to date version CorePlayer but costs money.
Hi guys
Thanks for the answers and link
I had a look at the portable apps but this is actually for windows 2000 and above, so I think stylez you are correct in saying that as yet the answer is no, but it would be nice if they did make a version, oh well maybe one day.
To bad I found the wrong stuff , thought it looked very promising.
I must say I agree with stylez , Coreplayer and tcpmp is without a doubt the best players for WinMo..
Anyway keep on searching , and maybe you'll find something about the vlc someday, but until then I suggest you use coreplayer
Mod edit:

[Q] WP7 HD2 720p problem

Hi Guys,
I have a problem with my 1.14 DFT WP7 ROM on my HD2.
I can record 720p videos, but can't play them ("playback error") and can not even sync them to collection. I even tryed dragging the video file onto the computer icon to copy to, but no copy. It makes a lot of files with various names and veird extentions.
Didn't have this problem with the ROM versions I installed before (1.04, 1.12)
Anybody have an idea how to fix it without hard reset?
I really have set everything, don't want to mess it.
Thanks a lot for the help and BIG thank to DFT team for the software. Great work!
I do have exactly the same problem. In german "Wiedergabefehler", so playback error.
Annoying. I have a 16GB Microsd Class 10 Card, 100% functional. Is there a way to fix it? Thx in advance.
Yes, it would be really great to have an opinion from someone, who knows why does this exists.
Hello! Same problem here..720p recording isssue
I also tried this in the ROM XBmod-WP7-V1.11, when capturing video, default is 720p but when I transfer it to my PC, I saw that the video is not 720p but 640 only..Then the 1.14 DFT Rom also had an issue. 720p recording have bugs, cannot play, or it won't load and I will be forced to exit the camera. Please advice on what to do about it. Will SHCameraApp help? In the first place, how will we install it when unlocker for them doesn't exist? Thanks!
YUkiXda V5
I just changed to YukiXDA's V5 rom.
It is awesome.
Working Wifi shortcut to homescreen.. etc and 720p video rec is working great.
Now i am tring to remap green key for camera start, because (nothing is perfect) on this rom it is the play button, but in call is the end call button, which is very good.
Tried to edit part4.bin - keybdpdd_htc.dll - S001 file, but no luck.
Anyone could make?
I would really appreciate the help.
Back to the Future ROM - it really makes sense now
Thanks
