[REQ] IM with video support - General Questions and Answers

Is there Instant Messaging software with video (front camera) capability for Windows Mobile?

The right question

Try to google M$ Portrait. I think it support video using your phone's camera. I tried it before but I only tested the voice and chat.
But I also read recently, that development was discontinued. Not sure why.

yea man there is
actualy there is till now 2 prog for video chat on wm
www.ivisit.com
www.vzochat.com
enjoy

yeah, but who needs another protocol? Skype/msn should work on modern devices which HAVE power to manage the heat.

video conferencing / video chat software

One of the "cool" features of this phone is the fact that it can make videocalls using the front camera... But, in the US, who else has this feature where you can actually use it for that? lol
Are there any other programs that can access the camera, where I can video chat with someone, like on yahoo or aim (while connected via WiFi)? I have Palringo and I will be the first to admit how cool it is, but I think the idea could be taken further? Any suggestions? Anyone tried that VZOchat ?Thanks in advance...

I'm assuming private chat, not recorded and posted on my qik page. I can't seem to find much about it, does anyone know where I can find more about it?
yes, new app? w/ Qik...
yes, the official launch they said that "an upgrade" (i believe through Qik, an app maybe?) will enable the phone to utilize phone to phone OR phone to pc video calls..."CALLS"...so it must be the case. i guess they foresaw having to compete w/ skype and verizon in this manner...w/ verizon's upcoming vphone (saygus) offering video conferencing software via android, more options may open up than just offered up front at sprint.
Also remember that the 4th gen iPhone will also have a front facing camera, as well as code in the os that point to iChat intergration.
I can't wait till we have an Android app that works with iChat!
This is an upgrade to the qik app or qik account. I wonder if it will cost. That would sure ruin it.
I'm praying for skype to skype video on the Evo.

same, stupid verizon, buying up skype.....
I know I'm half awake, so maybe I missed something, but from what I can see, Qik doesn't have a full desktop/PC app. They seem to be very phone centric.
They do have an app called "Qik-in-Touch" that runs on the desktop and will tell you when your friends are broadcasting publicly (or maybe privately to all friends?) but last time I played with it (when it first went beta), it didn't support webcam on the PC. So it was receive-only on the desktop.
It's something, but not a direct one to one video calling/chat. But maybe they've updated it since the last time I played with it, or maybe I just missed some things.

That's what I was concerned about, I haven't seen anything about being able to video chat to a PC

actually google bought Global IP Systems, they allow skype, qik and so on to have video calling and chat XD so we will see.
Wonder if Google Talk will be getting video chat on the PC and Android phones.
I my opinion that would be great. If you have a Android phone you have a gmail account so it only make sense that it should be coming.

Your prayers have been answered. Fring now supports video chatting with Skype.

you can do pc to phone and viceversa it receives and makes calls i have already tested it
dont forget skype is releasing video chat on all android devices this year too
Fring is supposed to do skype with the front camera
Tested it today. Two evos both using fring, worked well on our subpar 3G service around here. I did Skype on PC to Fring (logged into a skype account) on an evo. Worked great all the same. I played with fring on an old windows mobile device, and had problems. Today on my evo, the experience was flawless.

Grab & install Fring from the Market. I've been using it for the past 2 days to video chat EVO > PC. PC users on Skype.
NYC is still 3G only, so its pretty bad, but switch to Wifi And I found the quality rather acceptable.

[Q] Generic video chat support?

I have my shiny new nexus S4g and I'm trying to figure out if its possible to either have gtalk interface with an video conferencing unit, or if there is an app available to do this.
I want to talk to a codian mcu 4501 unit at my work. I know it supports H.261 H.263 H.263+ H.263 interlaced and H.264
I downloaded the clearsea client because it stated that it supports tandberg, but it looks like you need to login with an account on their server as soon as you launch the app, they have demo accounts but when I click to purchase they want to sell a 6 "port" block at almost 7000 euros! hahahah gtfo I don't need that at all.
Try oovoo from market. They have support for pc chat n conferencing.
GTalk doesnt allow u to do conference(i might be wrong though). Also skype n yahoo are useless at this point as there is no video support available yet.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

[Q] front facing camera?

what exactly is this for? i dont see an option for it when calling and the phone didnt come with a program for video calls? is it in the making?
well, you can take pics of yourself to upload onto facebook if your into that kind of thing. Sure beats the little chrome dot that your supposed to use as a mirror LOL
I am sure at some point there will be Skype and other programs that will and can use it. Just a matter of time
facing camera is for purpose using the video conference or taking a picture of yourself for some purpose like facebook or update your new face.
You can just download Tango or skype app or whatever your favorite video conference app.
You need the leaked skype.apk for skype video calling which on Sense 2.2 works great. CM7 also has Gtalk with video mostly working. I haven't tried Tango yet but I'm sure it works as well for video chatting.
I have used it with Yahoo Messenger with the video chat plugin and it works great.
Still waiting (patiently.....) for vid-chat support on Google Talk.

[Q] BLU Studio 5.3 - video chat?

Blu Studio owners, please, share your experience about using some video chat apk with the device!
I've tried Skype (that is working only as voice call software, as you know), than Tango, Fring, ooVoo, Yahoo Messenger with video plug-in and others, without much success.
Now I have Fring installed, it sometimes works sometimes not, but it's far from being stable.
I also tried to install the Google Talk video chat version from here, XDA. My phone is rooted, so I could install it as system apk, it run but simply did not offered the voice and/or video call feature. So I put back the original, only written-chat Talk app.
Does anybody have more success with video chat on Studio 5.3?
(Certainly the normal mobile phone video call works well. That is why I think there should be some app that works with this processor and system.)
Thanks,
Tibor

As per the manual, the phone was only test for video telephony. Pure voice (CS or circuit switched) calls with video, not IP video "chatting" like Skype and the likes. Strange, but that's what it seems like.
I've seen in another thread on XDA that somebody could use QIK video chat with BLU Studio 5.3. (Freely downloadable from Play Store.)
I've installed it now. It's really working! It's not the best chat program since the free version is not compatible with any other chat apps (like Skype or Viber) but at least -- works. So, if you want to use free-of-charge video chat with this phone you should convince your family members and friends to also install QIK...
