Sprint Data Usage?! - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

Hey Guys -
I am a bit worried... I know that we are supposed to have unlimited data through sprint... but I wouldn't be suprised if they pull an AT&T and limit people to 2GB...
AT&T argue that "hardly anyone uses 2GB on their phone" - but I have now used 1.6 GB in 8 days... What would be on my phone that uses that much data?! The only thing I can think of is Pandora but theres no way that uses 1.6GB...
I guess it's probably QIK now that I think about it - so if QIK uses 1.6GB that fast (I have uploaded quite a few videos and use this often)... if Sprint ever does throttle internet (which is on their playbook)... they will be throttling their video chat customers instantly..
Sucks to be iPhone uses with this "Face Time" i guess thats why they are limiting it to WiFi... cause if they didn't - all their customers would have data overages every month!
Hah - 1 up for Evo

I'm with you on this one, since I got my evo i've used 1.66gb Though I checked sprints 'plan optimizer' and I have used 1.8gb each month on average over the last year
I'm hoping I don't hit the cap and have to kill my data till it resets lol

In sprints new data format for data cards, they only have the 2gb limit on 3g, 4g is still unlimited, the majority of the us should have 4g within a year or so, so I wouldn't worry too much about it

You know... if at&t says the majority never will go past 2 gigabytes... why have the cap in the first place huh?

actually jramz its 5gb for 3g. unlimited for 4g.
but if they ever did, theyd wait for verizon or somebig name to do it before them one more time, and if they did 3g would probably be limited while 4g unlimited.

sprint has no plans on throttling data....and no plans to get rid of our unlimited data....i wouldn't worry about it...

Indeed. I just checked my personal details and I have used 282 mobile-mobile, 10 n/w, 60 land line, 50 texts, and a WHOOPING 3.2GB of data in 10 days. I have been using SprintTV to broadcast the FIFA games in the lab (ATT could not even get a signal in there and I get 3G good enough for video in there).
Oh yeah, I have been using the 4G as my data connection at home since it gets 5.5-7 mbps at my house rather than the measely 3.2 from Comcast. Comcast is getting cut at the beginning of July. I cut ATT and all my Apple products at the beginning of this month. Slowly, but surely I am getting rid of Evil, Frustration, and Big Bills in favor of fairness, open source, and portability. Sprint + Clear FTW!!!!!

When I hit 35 gigs last month 4 days before my bill cycle date Sprint shut off my ability to use EVDO. I wonder if forcing evdo will get around this? I think if I try to force evdo I will simply have no internet.
I think I am grandfathered in the truly unlimited internet access. I have never used over 30 gigs in one month before. I am surprised they did did this to me. I even drove to the base of the tower and reset my phone and checked to make sure forcing rome was off. Then the night my new bill cycle started at midnight I was surfing and watching the 1x on my phone. Sure enough it changed to EV at 12:01 Am. HA Proof. Sprint didnt charge me or contact me about it as of today its been 3 days since my bill came in. HmmView attachment 564921

as a fellow "power user", i can say, dont worry about it. they've never throttled me. one time i felt like they were and i just pulled the battery for about 7 or 8 minutes (until tv went back to commercials) and it fixed right up

They did it again. Twice more. When I hit 30 gigs im stuck at 1x till my bill cycle starts over. Sprint 15 year old plan.
My land line company finally got DSL to my neck of the jungle so I dont need to tether any longer. Now that I dont need more then 2GB per line Im Ditching my $350 six line 6,000 minute Sprint plan for Straight Talk. Im loosing insurance, roadside assistance and reducing my bill. Sprint has very bad reception in Hawaii.

Yeah i was reading that this is what Verizon is preparing to do.

Hopefully sprint is not a follower and decide to screw us by limiting our data use.

I hope they don't follow those data cap. The only reason I'm with sprint is unlimited data coz signal and internet speed are the worst of all.

with the release of the iphone 5 i highly doubt that will happen any time soon.

right now, they're in third place with the major cell service providers and it's the one that distinguishes them from the pack or the biggest providers. If they do, there's time till to do so.

I think(I could be wrong) I read somewhere that sprint cap is only for those who use phone as a modem, phone internet use is not capped

I found out that the cheap prepaid plan with Straight talk at wallmart should have an internet speed 15 times faster then Sprint. And that got me thinking. Well sprint says they dont throttle but I know they do. They did it to me 3 times. I ditched them for a cheaper prepaid phones from wallmart. I had 6 lines with Sprint for 15 years. I Finally have DSL now so I no longer have to rely on sprints so called unlimited data. My new phone service has way better reception on the Big Island then sprint does. And its internet speed is faster then my DSL. I am getting 6835kbps down and 1050kbps up on my new (but old) Samsung Galaxy II skyrocket with there bring your own phone plan at $45 a month. Down side is rumor has it that its caped at 100 mega bytes a day with a max of 2 GB a month. I have not pushed those limits yet.

Grandfathered Plan no 4G, New Plan 4G... WTF?

I was reading about Data lags on the sensation but never noticed it on mine (Tmobile US) but I did notice that my "4G" speeds were incredibly slow and went through all the troubleshooting "Ciphering off/on radio off/on" "airplane mode on/off" "hard reset" "new sim card" ect.
Using the SpeedTest.Net App, I was getting about 1MB download and less than 1MB Upload. Sometimes I'd get 500KB Download. I called Tmobile Customer Service and they said that my current android plan "$35 Unlimited Data and Text" (even though my phone constantly shows 4G at the top) does not include 4G and I'd have to update to the new plan which includes 4G for $30 5GB Unlimited (wtf?) Data and $15 Unlimited Text"....so I changed it....2 hours later....
I'm still getting the same speed. <1MB Download <800KB Upload...
Any help guys? Did I pretty much just get ripped off? I'm on Tmobile US, in a 4G coverage area. --- What speeds are you guys getting?

Did you go over your limit? They will throttle you if you go above the 2gb/5gb/10gb
I'm currently throttled and only getting .5mbps down. sucks but I got throttled one week before my new cycle so hopefully it will go back up next week
Nope. Got the phone last week and Its been slow like that since. I called tmobile to check and see and they said I was well below my usage.
You shouldn't have changed your plan. There might be something wrong with the phone or the area you live in.
That's what I asked them, I said what if it's the phone and not my data plan. I told her that Tech Support doesn't know what the problem is but they just think that the plan is old and that's why its not on 4G, I asked if I still get the same problem can I change my plan back to the grandfathered plan, The rep said that she had a problem like that before and she switched her plan and she got fast speeds but if it doesn't get resolved she will note the account so that "special accounts care" MIGHT switch me back to my old plan.
Still slow speeds.
The feature your taking about, $30 for the 5G data is a Required feature if your on an old plan. You can switch to the $79.99 even more plan and that gives you unlimited talk text and 2GB web each month. if you choose to remain on the old plan, the 5GB $30 plan is the data plan we can add in the store.

My thing is, I had a plan for $35 Unlimited Data and Text but they said that doesn't support 4G so I changed the plan to $30 5GB and $15 Unlimited Text plan but the speeds are STILL the same.
I was wondering what everyone else's speed is and if I just got ripped off going into a new more expensive data plan yet receiving the same speed as my old cheaper plan.
It could be in the area your in, but just to be sure, go into your tmobile store and try speedtest while your there and also check the sensation they have in the store.

good idea checking the speed on theirs. But as far as area wise, I don't think its that. I live in Garland, Texas but go out all over the place for fun. So I go to Dallas, Rockwall, Fort Worth, and all these big cities and still, slow speeds.

they lied to you.
I am getting 6mb down on the unlimited G1 plan. I did switch sim cards and used the one in the box, but did a web chat to activate so I encountered no BS.
Real sorry about that...
Seriously,
ask for a floor manager, then ask the floor manager for their supervisor, don't stop until you get you plan back.
I got unlimited loyalty minutes $69 for 2 lines and $30 for unlimited text and data. mine data tally never shows any usage, it just says unlimited, doesn't show an amount just 0% used.
I was on the phone for 3 hours though showing my backside a couple years ago.
I got lucky I think, maybe I just feel lucky and have the same deal as the rest of the customers who were around back in the voicestream days before the tmobile buyoiut;
point is though, be nice and cool but persistent and keep asking for managers and supervisors until you get your plan back.
also,
always ask them to place a note on your profile saying what ever they promise.
good luck
and I'm out...
I have a feeling it is something with your phone.
I'm on the grandfathered $25 unlimited Android Data plan (5GB of 4G) and below are speeds I've gotten with 3-4 bars of 4G.
I live about 25 minutes outside of Milwaukee, WI.
5.5 - 10 Mbps download and .6 - 2.2 Mbps Upload

Your unlimited loyalty plan is 5GB . Also, customer care can get you back on your old plan, the guy I'm quoting makes it seem like they are cutting diamonds lol.
Just call and tell the rep you speak to that your account was changed in error and you do not want your data plan changed. If you are questioning the phone, get it replaced.

called tmobile again, talked to them and troubleshooted for about an hour, turning phone on and off, refreshing network ect. and still low speeds 600kbps download and 32 kbps upload. Asked if it could just be my phone and they said no. The tech is opening up a trouble shoot ticket, saying its probably a network error and I should wait up to 72 hours for a technician to come out to the area.
guess I'm waiting.

I will add to the confirmations that the plan or SIM doesn't matter. I use the $25 MyTouch 3g plan and I have an older "2g" SIM card in my Sensation. I average 6-7 Mbs bandwidth with max 10 Mbs seen so far.

I have to humbly disagree with you there...kinda.
I know some here have the same plan and situation you have and granted it works in your case, it is not really fair to say it works for all.
I came from a nexus one and simply changed my sim card over to the sensation on June 9. It worked fine until day 3. I think you have responded to a couple of my threads asking about the "android" vs grandfathered plans on the sensation but I do not recall what was said. Beside that, I was connected fine with my grandfathered data plan which I used with my old SE Xperia x1. It was called a 'smartphone' data plan, which cost 24.99/mo with 400 data texts. I have since replaced the sim that came with the box, made sure the IMEI's matched to their systems (which I think was the reason for the data cutoff) and now have a coded "android" plan.
From day 3, I have been on here asking people's opinions on, "data is data so our grandfathered plans should work no problem"....and to talking with tmobile cs, opening a trouble ticket because it came at the same time there was a problem outtage in my area (San Antonio, TX). I was told that the trouble ticket takes about 3 days to be addressed/resolved.
BUT on day 4 (day 2 of the trouble ticket), I called tmo cs again and got to the second level tech dept and had an in depth troubleshooting call with the extremely nice tech. Turned out she has an android device too so that helped things along.....The tech checked my trouble ticket but had a feeling that she could fix it so we agreed to go for the gusto. Upon tweaking the apn's and other settings, nothing worked even though I have the 4g icon up on my notification bar, just no data transfer. Before hanging up, I asked her about my grandfathered plan and was weary of getting the "suggested" android plans out there because there was nothing comparable to my grandfathered plan. She then went to her senior manager who is also nice and explained my situation. The rep came back to me and said I was right, the old grandfathered plans DO NOT work and any IMEI's that come back with incompatible data plans get disconnected.
So she and her manager saw that I was also a long time member of tmo for over 10 years and agreed to set me right and not have me pay more for a plan that I am getting less features on. The manager went and recoded my grandfathered plan to read Android instead of smartphone. (I am guessing this unlimited wording is 5gb and then throttles me but I am on wifi most of the time so it doesn't bother me) Two seconds later I got a sms from tmo welcoming to the android data plan.
About an hour later I found that my data was flowing again. So I must stress that even though your grandfathered plans may still work, do not be surprised if tmo disco's your data connection. You'll still make and receive calls, but data will be disco'ed.
But to the OP with slow data issues, have you changed the Sim card at all? I would advise against calling tmo and asking them to check the IMEI they have on file because I think that is what flagged my phone to begin with. And as for the data plan issue, you will need to come to grips with what works for you.
This may not be common, but I had to get a new SIM card for my N1 when they rolled out their HSDPA stuff locally I couldn't get any 3G at my apartment after they did; an updated/new SIM card fixed that issue.
As far as the plan, they tried to get me on the same gimmick; said that I should upgrade to the 4G plan etc etc...I politely refused it and im getting 6mbps here in Blue Bell, PA

Yeah they were trying to be nice & all, but seriously, Tmobile blocked all Sensation IMEIs that weren't on their newer plans to force you to "upgrade". It's not the CS reps fault though, but tmobile's & their wanting everyone on a tiered data plan. Your old plan was fine, even worked for a few days (like mine did) until tmobile flipped that lovely IMEI blocking switch.

Lets take a step back. What speeds were you seeing before with your old 3G phone? It's possible that you're just an area with slow speeds. If that's the case call and demand your old data plan back.
T-Mobile has done a lot of cleaning of data usage on their end.
Their new phones and systems are made with code that specifically disregard older data plan coding.
Basically this allows them to say that your old data coding is incompatible with the newer system they're using.
Just looking for you to pay more for less. ( T-Mobile loves AT&T )

I'm using a Sensation with an older Android plan ($24.99 + 400 Texts) and i'm also using a sim card from 2005. I have "4G" speeds. What everyone needs to realize is the technology is the same across the board. There is technically no such thing as 4G on the t-mobile network. If your old "3G" phone worked in your area, then your new "fake 4G" phone will work. If it doesn't then demand to talk to someone else until they fix it. T-mobile shouldn't be tricking anyone into upgrading to a 4G plan by saying it wont work, because that's 100% untrue. All t-mobile did was increase the bandwidth that their old cell-sites would operate at. If your device can handle the faster speeds then it will benefit from the bandwidth upgrade. If the device can't handle the extra bandwidth then it will connect at the fastest speed that it is physically capable of.
I can see T-Mobile's argument if their 4G was LTE or WiMax, but it's not. If T-Mobile wants to argue about 4G speeds then demand to keep your plan at 3G speeds. Their 3G devices would theoretically reach 7.2Mbs which i've only managed to beat once with this new phone, and that speed was 7.7Mbs.
Sorry for the long post. In short, don't give in and fight with them. They'll fix it. Keep escalating the issue until you reach their CIO if you have to.

P!$$ed at AT&T! Their singling out SR users!!!

This is some unfair BS. I've had unlimited data for over 2 years!!! I've used at the very most 9GB I'm a month! I average between 3-6GB on a regular month. I've read and heard about skyrocket users getting throttled out the butt and getting the text warning about being in the top 5% of users. I do not tether. All i use data for is minimal normal things, Facebook, browsing, email, and a bunch of Pandora. I've had the iPhone 3gs, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, nexus one (at&t), infuse 4g and now the Skyrocket. I do not live in an LTE area. Today i get the message saying I'm in the top 5% of data users and to start using wifi or my data will be reduced!!!! I'm only at 3.8GB for the month!!!! This is ridiculous!!!! Evey single other phone I've used I've used much more data, and my first 20 days with this phone i get this crap? AT&T has to be flaggig users with the special LTE grandfathered plan and monitoring them! That's the only explination!!! I'm so PO'd right now I'm considering taking my phone back (I'm within 30 days) and switching to VZW for the damn Droid Razr. At&t has done it this time. How can they market a phone being LTE and everything they market the phone as being able to do "stream music, play games, instant videos" and yet pull this crap? I sense lawsuits in the near future!

Take the phone back.
Everything Ive read says only the 3g gets throttled not the LTE so being in a LTE area one should be ok
Greased Lightning
if you don't live in an LTE area, you're being penalized because you wanted an SGSII with a bigger screen/faster processor
The obvious solution is to start using wifi and/or stop using Pandora. You think Verizon will hand over unlimited data. Put Pandora on a lower bit rate too. It sucks to be slowed down but you are using more data than 95% of other people paying the same money that you are.
This is happening with everyone grandfathered with unlimited not just LTE users. At least they let you know they were going to do it and if you don't like it there is always Sprint *cringe*.
BTW I believe this goes by a 3 month average of your data. So it is just a coincidence that it came when you had the skyrocket.
It is any time you hit 5gb. i got the notice previously on my infuse . i do think getting a newer phone triggers a new set of rules but i can not confirm. we are testing on my wifes phone she has had for a while to try and hit 5gb and see if she gets the txt.
Keep in mind that i got the txt and have had NO decrease in speed yet. i am currently at 5.5 gb

This is my whole point. VZW offers 2,5,10 GB options ect . They don't say you have unlimited but you go over were basically going to throttle you so your network will be so slow its basically un-useable. And i really find it hard to believe that me not being in an LTE market; with the 12+ LTE markets available right now and other users pulling down 50+Mbps while I'm pulling down 3 on average 5 if I'm lucky that my 3.8gb is in the top 5%. When I've been far over this and never ever ever received anything before. Im not tethering or doing anything with the phone they don't market it as.... my data plan says unlimited. At&t what's the issue?

I know that when I grandfathered my unlimited data and text plan from my BB9700 that the lady at the AT&T store had to split my plan in two (unlimited data and some other text plan) in their computer system but took a screenshot just in case that I was eligible, and then had to call the corporate office and have them merge them back together. This took about 30 mins but she was able to get it done. Though, I am still waiting to see my bill at the end of the month to see if there are any hidden surprises. I have not gone over 5g yet; I usually was about 2-3g with my BB. I have been downloading like a madman lately so I should see if I get the message soon.
P.S. We are now in LTE area and I actually got my phone the day they went live so it was not just for HSPA+, which I have heard stories about some stores saying that HSPA+ is all you get with grandfathered unlimited plan and that you had to pay extra for LTE. BS!

I had similar expirience with my store representative, it took more than 1 hour to get this thing set up correctly on their end, it seems att had no intentions of letting me have unlimmited lte. even though i don't live in a lte market, but when i travel i do come across lte markets and use my phone a lot almost 10GB/Mo
so far no messages from att(knock on wood)
think this is the third or fifteenth thread about this.... at some point the numbers will push higher because of how fast you can consume a few gigs of data.
For instance i got a txt at 4.5gb and throttled at 5.1gb and now some users are getting this done at 3.8 or 4gb.... so the time will tell.

SimpleMobile Caps (To make it more obvious)

This PSA brought to you by an angry loser with nothing better to do!
Just to make everything clear and said at least once in every T-Mobile device forum, SimpleMobile is not the best choice when it comes to plans in the $60 range!
For the same amount of money you can get T-Mo Monthly 4G Unlimited Talk/Text with 2gig 4G data. Of course you will be throttled once you pass that 2gig mark, but at least you will still have data!
Recently I was on vacation for a week and found myself with lots of free time in cars or in the evenings. So needless to say queue up the Netflix, Pandora and YouTube I did! All was well with the blazing and expanded 4G footprint of T-Mo, I was like a pig in 3 week old s-it! 5 days of that ticked up a 2gig data total. Right on time comes an angry text message "Your SimpleMobile Data service is at risk of being suspended due to violation of terms and conditions. Call..blahblah so we can say that we hate you."
"Bring it, you prepaid a-holes!" I thought to myself.
I'm throttled to a crawl, but I can always just switch to 2G data only! Download this, download that, torrent this, leave pandora on as often as possible.. All this plus more was my goal! What did I have to lose? I'm on a prepaid plan, what are they going to do!? .. Famous last words, they say.
One day later, the final warning message was shot "Your SimpleMobile Data service is suspended due to violation of terms and conditions. Call..blahblah so we can say how you've hurt our feelings."
Messaging > Compose > 848484 > Info . . 1 new message! "Activation date 6/10/12 ReUp by 7/10/12. Plan: $60 Unlimited Talk, Text and 4G Data. Usage: 129 min, 2708 Text, Data 2753.807 MB"
Ah, what a feeling of great triumph. I nearly manage a gig of extra and probably miscounted data before they could shut me down! (I mean come on, how can you download that much on Edge!?)
/end rant lol. I am COMPLETELY dataless now. I can't even send or receive MMS at the moment. Next weeks adventure: Straight Talk! Tune in next week same time and same place!
Dictated, not read :good:
Just about the same thing happened to me on simple mobile. They say its unlimited, but like every other prepaid company they will reserve the right to suspend or terminate your data if you "violate their terms & conditions."
After that happened, I made the switch to T-mobile pre-paid $70 plan. Up to 5gb at 4G, which is great because now I know I can tether, watch videos, stream music, or whatever I want for just 10 bucks more than simple mobile's gimmicky scheme they got going.
I'm fixing to go to a Tmo store and see if I can get a prepaid sim cheap for a few days. I am STILL waiting on my straight talk sim and my SimpleMobile crippled plan is about to expire. I figure that I'll just pay as I go on one of those daily plans until I get the Straight Talk up and going. That way if I hate Straight Talk too, I can just go to Monthly 4G on Tmo.
I've had this happen to me before, too. My first week with Simple Mobile I had used up 3GB of data and they completely cut me off as well. Server side, too. I called and called, but there was nothing I can do. They told me I violated their terms and conditions. They tried to tell me Pandora and youtube violate their terms and conditions. B.S.! I used my device as I normally would have! That's just how I roll...
Does anyone know if these are grounds for a class action suit against Simple, seeing as they advertise "Unlimited High Speed Data", yet they start cutting you off after you hit 2 Gigs. 2,048MB is not even CLOSE to infinity!

I think we're more or less stuck.. It's kind of like accepting the terms and conditions to any Apple service, you're screwed
I have got my straight talk up and working, but I don't live in a 3G area so I won't be able to test it any time soon.
Resurrecting an old thread...
This is my first month with Simple ($40 "unlimited" 3G.) But caps aren't a problem for me. My month is up next week and so far I've only used 353 MB. Starting today, Simple's $40 plan will also include 250 MB at 4G before throttling down to 3G/EDGE/whatever. Anyways, the reason I'm raising this thread from the dead is because SM's website says "**4G High Speed Data available only on HSPA+ compatible phones." Seeing as our phones are HSDPA, what speeds should I expect? Would I even notice an improvement? (Currently getting 300 Kb/s down and up on what they call a 3G network.)

I just bought a 99c Simple Mobile SIM, and plan on activating a T989 on the $40 "unlimited" plan. I'll likely use less than 2GB per month, not really sure. I'm expecting that the $40 plan (w 250MB 4G, then throttle) is the same as the $50 plan from T-Mo (w 100MB 4G, then throttle, right?
Tmo $30 5GB 4G plan was great for data, but not for VOIP. Just couldn't seem to get GrooveIP or Talkatone or SIP working well enough to keep the plan.

I wouldn't go so far to say Simple's 4G/3G is the same as T-Mobile's 4G/3G. They (Simple) are most likely throttling more than T-Mobile would. I'm not sure if my ~300 Kb/s on Simple can even be called "3G"
Yea they're dicks, I've been with them now for a year using their 3g plan. Never got **** for data usage... go onto 4g (to try out) and they threatened to chop off my ding dong if I went over the 2gb limit. My solution... go back to 3g and not get **** from them

I was on a 2 gig then throttle plan with t-mo, we had a falling out and settled, part of which was them putting me into their new unlimited 4g.
Over ten gigs thus far and no throttle, when it shows up on my bill in a few cycles it'll be $20 a month for real unlimited.
No sure if simple is throttling the same way t-mo did, but I noticed you talking about a big t-mo plan for data, just go with unlimited for $20 and you'll be straight.

Simple Mobile Unlimited Data Scam
I would like to be the one to start the process of finding people with this same issue of FRAUD committed by SIMPLE MOBILE. My story is of very similar nature.
The attached link is a u-tube video that shows the same frustration we have all been going through.
w ww.youtube.com/watch?v=UjvvMHADHVw
If I pay in full for a full month up front for a service plan that promotes and promises an unlimited (infinite) data usage , I expect to get what I paid for. If such service is taken away from me before my paid month is complete, from the company it was purchased from, with no real explanation and all money was kept without any refund; I BELIEVE THIS IS CALLED STEALING!!!
If a company sells you something and you receive less of that something you were told you would receive, that is fraud.
Fraud and stealing is illegal.!!!!
Suspending an "unlimited" data service for the reason of "over usage". This deception is called fraud!!!
If you have been deceived by Simple Mobile's "unlimited" LIMITED service and would like to be part of a class action law suit to help show them how wrong it is to steal from their own customers; Please e-mail: [email protected]

AT&T Rant

I understand but don't agree with AT&T's throttle policy. But this is just ridiculous (see screenshot below).
.01 Mbps!!! Ridiculous... speeds this slow make my phone practically unusable!! And this is "unlimited" data... haha.
I know there is nothing I can do except grind my teeth and take it or go elsewhere.. I hope AT&T loses a lot of business because of this.
I understand throttling to an extent... but to throttle at 3gb with technology today. HD videos, Netflix, YouTube, internet radio, posting pictures with the phones 8mp camera.. of course data usage is getting bigger and limits are getting smaller.
I don't go far over 3gb, its hard to with these speeds.. but its normally the last week of the month that I get throttled. So I would most likely use 4gb, maybe 5gb. I read that 4g phone plans have a 5gb limit... and honestly I thought the Infuse was a "4g" phone... any way for an enormous and very profitable company to stick it to the little guys.
I also noticed that I get throttled at different usage. I use data monitor to track my usage and I've been throttled as low as roughly 2.5gb and at max I'll get to maybe 4gb.
Does anyone know how exactly we are throttled? It can't be automatic if it varies this much, can it? I imagine some well paid old man in a suit counting his stack of money, laughing and randomly hitting a big throttle button. Haha.
I apologize for a semi useless post and ranting away.. it's just been one of those days and needed to blow some steam.
Thank you for listening and everyone who contributes to this forum.
Now I'll sit here while I wait for this post and screenshot to upload on my ATT throttled BS. I wonder if a dial up connection would be faster.. haha. Do they still have dial up internet available? Remember all those AOL CDs? Haha.. sorry... I'm done...

I feel your pain, but from a different direction.
We only have the 200MB per month AT&T plan for each of our 5 Infuse phones and don't go over that.
Most of our internet activities occur at home where we use our Wifi router.
But that single Wifi router feeds up to 5 phones, a pc, and three laptops.
After somewhere around 5GB in a month and our ISP (Clear) starts throttling us slower.
It definitely kills the experience when you can't watch a video from start to finish without waiting for it to buffer a few times.
Unlimited Text, Talk, and Data, only $45/mo: Prepaid Straight Talk SIM Port your number over, and tell ATT to go fornicate themselves.
I am rated at 7.2mbit up to 360mb. I will grab another test once I'm throttled. This is o2 in Munich Germany. They say throttled speed is 64k. We will see.

I feel for you, but at the same time all carriers are doing this or will be doing it in the near future.
If you look at the current growth of mobile data usage and consider the spectrum they have to work with it's not sustainable. You can only fit so much information in a certain amount of bandwidth.
I am almost always near wifi, so my monthly data usage rarely excedes 200-300 mb. I'm on the 2gb plan but have never even used half of it.
Personally I wish companies would charge for what you actually use. (at a reasonable rate of course)
That will never happen, because they can't do the legal gymnastics to call it "unlimited" and they would scare off the early adopter and trendsetter types.
I left AT&T for Straight talk and left my 400 Meg twice as expensive plan behind for unlimited talk, text and data and now happily tether my Thrive Tablet to my phone on the back woods farm of my grandparents in Kentucky for Christmas where AT&T couldn't even connect! :good:
The thing you are forgetting is Straight Talk isn't true unlimited either. I have them and I'm talking from experience. I've gotten lucky and used almost 5gb and not been throttled but they are getting worse about it lately. I only used 1.6GB this month and they throttled me. There is no rhyme or reason to how they do it but they do it. 2GB and less you are usually fine on ST but if you goto howardforums.com and goto the Straight Talk section they have a thread on the throttling. Some people use 4-5GB and have no issues but some use a bit over 1GB and get throttled. It's honestly still WELL worth the cost because to even get CLOSE to this on AT&T for a single line will be around $110 a month.
I have 3 GB data plan and I think that's enough for me
If you are on single person plan, I also think that straight talk will be better choice for you

I hate the fact that they make you have a data plan with any smart phone. But their new family share plan helps a lot.
Going to look into Straight Talk, thx
If you upgrade your phone to LTE phone, you will get 5 GB and get throttled.
You should upgrade your phone to get more and faster data from AT&T

Throttling never makes sense just like the family share plan it's an excuse to get more money. I got fed up with ATT and left for t mobile. The plans are cheaper and I get true unlimited. With a rooted phone I tether and sure it's not true Lte but I still average 8-10 Mbps and that's perfect for me.
no 2 yr contract nexus 4 and T-Mobile best option out there

Maybe I don't know will enough about AT&T, but I believe you party same amount of money even you are under contract or not right?
Then all you need to pay is phone cost. There are some good phones with LTE and under $100.
Or you have choice of straight talk which gives you pretty good amount of data with super cheap cost.

tmobile is true unlimited. also has month to month plan no contract. i'm gonna switch over soon when my contract is done with att...
Just wanted to chime in for a second. I had Straight Talk on my Infuse 4G for almost a year and while the service is pretty decent, I noticed that in a crowded AT&T cell I get kicked off. Also, I notice that (very rarely) in some places I don't have access to 3G service whereas other people with contract AT&T do (might be a modem thing, though, not 100% sure). There is supposedly an unspoken limit of 2GB of data per month (and some say even 100MB per day at most), but I have been careful to stay under both of those limits, the maximum I have used in a month on ST was 1.4GB.
Now I'm back on AT&T with 6GB Mobile Data Share and 2 lines (our Skyrocket i727s) and I have to say that the service is more consistent than I had on my time with straight talk (I've witnessed at shopping centers and malls I got kicked off of the data network more than a few times in favor of AT&T customers due to crowded cells), that and the LTE is great and the Skyrocket is just an all around awesome phone. I know the i727 is long in the tooth, but $.97 for a 1.5GHz Qualcomm S3, 1GB of RAM, LTE and that great 8MP camera is too hard to pass up. If you're broke like I was, it's a good deal.
Just my two cents. I know AT&T is a PITA but it could always be worse...you could be stuck on Sprint paying for 4G in an area with no 4G like I used to, lol.

Unlimited Data

So I've had unlimited data for three years now. Actually it was the only reason reason I switched from T-Mobil. People said Verizon was expensive so I stayed with my unlocked original iPhone. I was going to wait for Verizon to offer the iPhone before switching but decided to jump into a Droid X and lock in the unlimited data. I signed up again with a Droid Razr and then again last October with the Note 3.
Anyhow, I'm amazed at easy it is to get into double digits on data. I rarely spend more than 30 minutes streaming YouTube or NetFlix yet I regularly go over 20GBs. I might stream 30 minutes of XM a day but never like a whole day thing either. There's no possible way I would go with a limited plan even if I had to buy a new phone outright at full retail every 12 months.
The other day at the mall I stopped by the T-mobil booth and they're offering basically my same plan with unlimited data for the same price, more or less $90 a month. Except with T-mobil you don't have to pay for the whole phone up front like Verizon, you can pay over time, a nice convenience. Sure LTE is great but even living near a major U.S. city my coverage is still spotty after nearly four years of using one LTE phone or another. I rarely get full strength LTE connection. On my commutte every day I run into the same dead spot so I have to switch over to pre-loaded content.
Has anyone dumped their Verizon's unlimited for T-mobil? Or are most here just waiting it out?

I live in the middle of nowhere and verizon coverage can't be beat.
Sounds like you have something "hidden" using your data, might explain for poor bandwidth complaint as well. I stream over an hour of Padora every day. Have multiple feeds and other apps updating every 15 minutes, game online,
regularly download 1gb+ ROM images, and have my game apps set to autoupdate over lte, and the most I've done is 12gb. That said I agree They will have pry unlimited from my hands before I give it up. I just played the upgrade transfer and SIM swap game to use my upgrade to get the note 3 and keep unlimited.

I think this depends on where you live.
Is T-Mobile good where you live?
I think an unlimited data plan with Verizon is much more valuable than a T-Mobile unlimited data plan

I actually tried out T-Mobile. I just bought a pre-paid sim and put it into my Note 3. I wanted to see how the coverage and data was. The coverage was decent, but the speeds were very slow. The other thing you should know is that T-mobile is not truly unlimited. You might have an unlimited amount of data, but once you hit a certain point, they start to throttle your bandwidth.
All in all, I decided to keep my Verizon account because the data is truly unlimited, and I have more coverage than any other carrier. However, I kept the t-mobile sim because they have unlimited data at no extra cost outside of the country.
I Stick with Sprint. Last month. I have used over 30GB of Data.
Verizon's overall coverage can't be beat. AT&T and T-Mobile might give you faster speeds in certain areas, but when it comes to having a decent connection everywhere, Verizon is tops. T-Mobile might(?) be better in your area, but you should ask around and do some research first. Here is a good site that shows coverage areas for the big 4 providers.
