So yesterday I went out to dinner, grabbed my trusty TP2 and put it in my pocket (uncracked), reached out location and pulled it out (cracked). I know there was no impact between the two locations as I simply sat in a car the whole way.
Anyone else have something similar? Glad I have insurance, that's for sure.
Is it possible you had the screen facing out in your pocket? What I mean by that is when I keep mine in my pocket I make sure the screen is against my leg and not facing forward.. Either way, good thing indeed that you have insurance..
it is, but its a coat pocket. I Just couldn't believe it happened as I've had a touch screen phone for the last...3 or 4 years without issue.
if you have made fun of someone that has a case on there hip that is why it happend to you if not then its bad luck.
do you really believe that crack could appear after no physical impact?
I've seen crazier things happen. My one thought was that its quite cold here right now. Either way, I definitely didn't have any impact that I felt, which shouldn't be enough to crack a screen like this did. I just expect more out of HTC I guess.
A screen protector like invisible shield would help i have it on mine...only thing i hear is that when used in ur pocket it can pick up a lot of lint but so far mine hasn't had that problem. any little bit of dust i see on it i just rub it off
I've got ghost armor, when they get back in stock and i claim my insurance i'm going to start using a slip in case.

Yep. A couple of days ago I got into a car, the TP2 in my pocket (which was hanging...unzipped jacket) closed the door and crack! Lovely cracks spread across the screen of my beloved and not even 30-day-old TP2.
I should have known better, The same thing happened to one of my Moguls earlier this year. The weird thing is, the TP2 still works perfectly. I tried to get a return authorization, but Sprint referred me Assurion, which means $100 deductible. The only good thing about it is that the TP2 is so new, they don't have any refurbs to send out, so I'm getting a new one, with one year warranty. From now on, cases only... no pockets!
Not sure what happened in your case,
A: My assurion deductable was $39... I could have sworn it was $89.
B: I need to find a good stiff slide in vertical case that I can just slide the phone into and out of in my pocket.
C: Assurion says they'll get my phone to me Tuesday (i.e. out Monday).... either they're full of cow chips or they purchased a stock just in case since Verizon is apparently trickling in shipments.
what was the temperature outside ?
if it was decently cold, and your phone was cold as well, cold things always crack easier, especially with a screen this big. smaller the screen, harder it is to break.
haha, well it was cold for this time of year. nothing terrible. about 20 degrees F. I know the size matters, I just couldn't believe it cracked so easily so I was really just fishing to see if its a possible problem. My replacement will be here today and i've been trying to find a good STIFF slide in vertical case I can just keep in my pocket.
I live in Canada and on occasion it gets down to -25 degress c here (-13F)
and I have left many cellphones out in the cold, with no ill effects (although screen response can slow down dramatically while it's cold)
the only thing that would crack it is a dramatic change in temp. over a short period of time, like 80 to -5 and I don't even know about that.
a screen skin is NOT going to prevent cracking, only scratches, the LCD glass is on the inside of the device and a think film doesn't add anything to stability.
my guess is it got flexed are banged in the wrong spot. possibly a few days earlier which weakened it and then lightly banged again when you put it in your pocket...
of course a defect in the internal glass is possible, when you get in to mass production of a product there are bound to be some defects.
mine on the other hand has traveled 10 feet across from say 4 feet up and hit pavement with no more than a 1mmx3mm indent on a corner.
it's in general a well build device (but boy was I sick when that first happened)
My advice, if your insurance costs money.. bring it in with a little story.

As long as it is a solid crack across the screen with no obvious point of impact, I am pretty sure you will get away with it.. even with out insurance.
Football, Telus here in Canada has a thin hard plastic case for 15 canadian.
it will even prevent your screen from getting scratched. and makes that annoyingly placed "power"/screen blank button harder to push. I am pretty sure all the cdma devices are the same, but I don't know 100% I ordered a verison screen protector, and it fits. but the tolerances aren't as high for that

BTW... If you were looking at the phone in the upright position, the screen cracking started from the left middle of the screen and made it's way across to the bottom right corner. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same pattern.

To keep it short, I know, I know, I know, and I know. lol. (Just for an interesting note, being in South Dakota for College I've had it around that cold without a windchill... walking to class and having your eyelashes freeze in a block sucks.)
I was more or less just trying to come up with the most plausible excuse even though I was sure (99.999%) it wasn't the cold. It just completely blew me away that I pulled it out and there was cracks across the screen because at the point I hadn't even dropped the phone and as previously mentioned I wasn't leaning or really touching anything while riding in the car.
Also, generally its not actually glass that's on resistive touchscreen's as far as I know. I wasn't trying to insinuate that the screen skin would help stability at all (actually stiffness... don't get my started about this I've been dealing with stiffness matrices WAY to much lately in class).
I agree in general it seems quite well built, and agree if my case is isolated but I was wanting to make sure it was. A point of note is that the crack originated on the far right side and propogated in a couple of lines across the screen. Really my guess is that the method they use to connect the "glass" (a plastic..?) produces some residual stresses around the edges of the material.
Finally, where do you get the case you have? I really just want a slip case as I mentioned that is pretty stiff so that anything that may possible break the screen gets spread out over the area of the case. I am trying to stay away from a snap on hard case as I find them bulky, get your device dirty, and really don't protect what I want to protect.

mine cracked middle right and propagated in a crack more or less horizontally across the device and another at about a 45 degree angle towards the bottom of the screen. The instances sound similar just reversed.
The reason your screen cracked was most likely it pressed up against the seatbelt buckle. I have had this happen a couple of times. When driving now I ALWAYS take my phone out of my pocket or remove the case from my belt. As I said, a couple times I left it there and when I buckled up, the buckle of the seatbelt was pressed against my right hip. A little bit of pressure, like from stopping the car, is enough to crack the glass.
So word to the wise, do NOT leave your phone in your pocket or on your belt when you get into a car. Or if you do, put it on the side of your body that is facing away from the seat belt buckle.

Haha, I already do this. Actually, I was in the passenger seat and the phone was in the right pocket of my fleece jacket. I'm just the jacked it what damned me because normally when I put it in my pants I have the screen facing my leg.
Is this something that asurion will cover?
I just want to know how many people have already a scratched screen on their Nexus s
The screen is pretty strong against scratches. I definitely put nothing in the same pocket as any phone that I might be carrying, but even if you had keys with the screen facing them, you won't end up with any scratches. (The same can't be said about the Nexus S's back plate though).
my vote might not actually count. i've had an invisibleshield on my phone from the day I got it
you all would agree that gorilla glass is much stronger than of nexus s, am i wrong? i just want a phone which has a long lasting durability...
well if you want to put the screen surface to the test, it probably is....but in day to today usage it doesn't really matter, at least for me. (this depends on how one treats a handset).
I got a friend who consistently strip the paint off from handset (any phone) in less than a week...doesn't bother him much, advised him to change the casing and he replied that it doesn't do any good it'll be in a same state in a week...that is just how he treats the handset.
On another view, looks kinda hardcore though, beaten to a pulp cosmetically but still function as a normal phone.
Had mine since April with no screen protector. Not a scratch on it.
All of my phones have had visiable and annoying scratches after a few weeks, sometimes days..
My nexus s on the other hand is great. No scratches what so ever One dead pixel, but it disappeared after a week..
What have you found to be a good screen protector for the Blaze? I have been looking for something that will last. I just got some "C. Skins" that have a two year warranty off of fleabay for a whole $1.99 so I figured I would give them a try. I'm not expecting much for the price, but figured I would give it a shot. My initial report is that it won't stay down around the edges. I might trim a little off the edges and give it another try. (there were 6 in the package so I can experiment on a couple)
What other brands out have a good reputation and work on the Blaze? Thanks for any and all input.
My reply is not specifically what you're looking for, but is another viewpoint.
For over 2 years I carried a Nexus One with me wherever I went. Even though it was my first full screen phone, I only used one of those screen protectors for a few days.
For 2 years it was always carried in my front pocket, mostly in my jeans or shorts, or whatever. I did drop the phone a few times, nothing really catastrophic, but the bigger crime I would commit with my phone is using it sometimes with wet hands, and once or twice I used it in the rain.
My screen for that phone is still in PRISTINE shape. Not a single scratch on it. It has a very very small ding on the phone from when I dropped it once, but when I went to switch carriers, the guy is like, "This phone looks brand spanking new."
It's true I used a silicone style case for the back of the phone, mostly because the N1 is freaking slippery....but the screen was immaculate.
A friend of mine has a similar story with his Iphone 3gs, or whatever it's called. The materials that the phones have been made from for the last few years is pretty durable. I remember watching youtube videos of N1's users taking their brand new phones and marring them with keys, pressing really hard, and they wouldn't scratch.
I have no idea if the screen on this model phone is made of anything similar in a material, but I would certainly assume so, I'm sure most if not all of full screen phones are just as durable.
I didn't even buy a back cover this time, and it's been great.
Anyways, consider going "naked" with your phone. It "feels better".
I've used invisibleShields by Zagg on my past four phones, plus various devices such as digital camera screens and such. They're worth the price.

Thank you for the insight on the screens, I always carry my phone in my front pocket also and I'm worried about cracking the screen if I bend over against something and put pressure on the phone. I might just be overreacting on this but this is my first full screen smarty phone and I don't want to kill it.

Those screen protector films won't protect against the screen being cracked. Minor scratches, sure.
Having said that, it takes a *LOT* to crack the screens. Sure, it can be done easily, but I've seen iphones and htc incredibles lobbed across the room (not thrown like a baseball mind you, but tossed as if you were intending someone to catch it) and the person mis-threw and the phones were fine.
As far as scratches go......even if the phone does get scratched, (which is really hard to do and it needs to either be an extreme freak accident or something done intentionally, seriously I just took a fork to my nexus one tried to scratch it with the fork) the phone will still work. In order to scratch the screen I think you'd need to have something sharp and very hard, like a roofing nail or the tip of a steak knife.
The fork bent, and the screen is still not scratched.
I really understand where you are coming from on wanting to keep your phone in tip top shape, especially since the phones are expensive nowadays, but what I'm trying to say is don't worry about it so much.
The best thing you can do to not damage your phone is to not let them get wet. Don't be that guy at the bar with your phone sitting on the counter just waiting for some drunk guy to accidentally spill his beer on it.
Put that phone in your front pocket, even if you are wearing tight jeans, and have to crouch over, don't worry, your phone will be fine. I've been telling this over and over to a friend of mine who just recently got his first real phone (blah, an iphone 4s) and he treats the phone like it's an infant.
It's so funny. I'm not saying you should use your phone as a hammer to fix your roof, I'm just saying that the phones are rugged. Seriously, think about how many get sold, if they were so fragile, people would be up in arms every 2 weeks when their phone fell off the table.

normally I keep my phone in my front pocket with change and a lighter. I'm glad to hear that these phones are durable enough not to worry about them too much. Thanks for the insight on this.

I must be one unlucky guy then. I have always put screen protectors on my phone and kept them in cases. I always assume I'll resell the phone and a case offers me comfort in that sense.
With my N1, I needed to change the screen protector and took it off for a day. A DAY... I was careful with it, didn't put it anywhere crazy, nothing on it, etc. Somehow it managed to go from pristine to "big gash luckily not directly over the LCD".
The one time I dropped that phone (again, going "naked") during a change, I incurred a huge indentation on one of the corners. Anyone who's handled an N1 should realize how big a deal that is because the metalic parts of the body were thick aluminum. I really don't know how I managed that dent cuz it also happened from seat level.
From then on I've had the case and screen protectors for new phones BEFORE even having the phones in my hand. I'll agree with the fact that it takes a ton of force to crack the screen, but it also takes just the right angle just that 1 time to create the tortional force to crack the screen.
I've done Zagg as well as many of the glossy static based protectors. My issues with the static based glossy ones (and the Zagg) was with the corners coming up. My bad Zagg experience may simply have been on the N1 due to the screen being practically "above" the edge of the phone.
I've taken a major liking to the Stealth Shieldz offered on Amazon. The Zagg is just plain skin and I found a little difficult to apply. The Stealth Shieldz product is also a wet application (like the Zagg), but there's a hard plastic under the skin that helps it keep it's shape better, and for that I find it easier to apply. I also found it just lasted longer.
I wish the case options were better. Like a red/black version of the Incipio silicrylic... but the phone's still new, so i imagine the cases will come
I love this phone.
I figured I would post a update. I got the Zagg screen protector and love it. Well worth the $15. So far it's holding up great. I've had it on for about 3 weeks and no problems like the el cheap o protectors that would scratch from just sliding my fingers over the screen. And it has a lifetime warranty so if there is any problems I can send it back.

I just went with a case no screen protector. My phone is always in a safe place so I always come out with no scratches etc. When I do go with screen protector I often go with zagg or xtremeguard for my other phones.

Some of those protectors have a treatment on that that acts like polarization. I wear polarized lenses and if I turn the phone one way I can see everything, and if I turn it another, poof....it's gone.
I'd go to a store and try several out if this is a concern for you.
Ballistic case. So well made and feels so solid you want to drop it off your roof.
I personally have also always bought Skinomi screen protectors/full phone protectors on amazon. I NEVER get the dry screen protectors - I just suck at putting them on. Spraying a solution on the screen protector to install it also allows you to adjust where the protector is before it cures to the screen. Just make sure you do it quickly or you will be looking at the same bits of dust for a very long time!
I have always been huge at keeping screen protectors and cases on my phones. I have tried everything from the Matted protectors, to the really cheap ones, and I have tried the Invisible Shield by Zagg, and recently I bought a Ghost Armor protector for my phone. Apparently its supposed to be fingerprint resistant and grease and oil repellent, but it seems like it attracts oil and grease more than anything. The one thing that I hate about the Invisible Shield and the Ghost Armor is the material used. I know its supposed to be scratch resistant, but I hate the feeling of it. The whole rubbery material does not go well with a touchscreen phone, and your fingers stick alot. On top of that it has these weird ripples on it that make the screen look kinda weird. I am actually thinking of removing Ghost Armor and just going to the cheap ones that cost about $5
I am always the type of person who gets a screen protector within the first few hours of owning a phone, but I went about a week without one when I first got the Blaze because I couldn't find one, and have found that the screen is extremely scratch resistant and haven't bothered with one since.
3 months of typical use and so far not a single scratch on the screen, even after sharing the same pocket with some coins and keys.
I just ordered the Skinomi Drytech screen protector. Will update with pics and a brief review once it arrives.
One of my clients just informed me that a crack on the top left of the touchscreen of his S7 Edge caused the entire touchscreen to be completely inoperable. The entire screen was flickering like crazy. BE WARNED. I have not heard of anything like this before. Touchscreens are usually usable even if the entire screen is cracked.

It all depends onthe way the phone falls. There are no proven examples that screen A will always survive because iti s only cracked a little and screen B will go dead at whatever conditions. Only probability and nothing else.

It's possible on any device. Like mentioned above, chances are that the way it dropped (force, speed, angle, etc) damaged the hardware and that the screen crack as nothing to do with it.
All in all, be careful gents, devices aren't indestructible

So I guess the moral of the story is, don't drop the phone, Of course nobody ever plans on dropping their phone. But if you are trying to say that if you drop the phone then the screen may break, and if the screen breaks then the touchscreen may fail, that's not news to anyone.
mine drop, still got case on...still work fine....lol

I once dropped my s7 edge and only once and it stopped working completely. I'll remember next time I'm 30ft up to secure my phone better. Can't believe 1 drop and my phone won't power on geeez Samsung must be making low quality phones now.I BLAME SAMSUNG

Lol, not every single phone will be exactly the same, and the goes for any and all manufacturers of anything. My first S7 Edge I dropped like 5 times at waist height, a few lower, only a few cracks on the back glass and a few dents on metal edges. Not once did the front glass get scratched or dented thankfully. I ended up exchanging it for a new one since I had GSP and the MFG warranty. Granted I preordered mine and the way Best Buy had to do the GSP plans on those pre orders meant no matter what was wrong with my phone I didn't have to pay for a new one. Got an Otterbox Commuter case and my new ones been flawless I love Samsung. I've already swam with it in a 9 ft pool and no problems since. Granted like I said above, any company who makes anything, even electronics will unfortunately have some that can't take as much abuse since these things are mass produced.

i will be getting mine back from samsung tomorrow sent it in for mic not working when trying to talk on the phone but works ok on speaker phone or blue tooth
the report states they replace the lcd. to fix the mic not working here is a copy of it. also when the back cover was remove some how there was a crack on the back glass and camera glass they wrote it as abuse.WTF new back cover$70.00

My phone slid off a table that was maybe 4 ft high and caught one of the stabilizing bars (that connect table legs) on the way down. Entire screen cracked, mad flickering.
This is a very delicate phone. I have dropped smartphones before (without a case) and this is the first one in my history (starting with the original iPhone!) that got any serious damage from a fall. The other three people I know who own an S7e all cracked theirs in the first 3-4 months too. A case is a definite must.
As someone that works in this field, I lol'd. Its usable if you didnt crack the LCD or Digitizer. For simplicity sake lets say there are three layers, the glass your finger touch, the digitizer right under it, then the LCD. You crack either of the bottom 2 layers, you got a non-working phone. You crack the top glass, put something like tape or tempered glass over it, it'll work just fine.

You guys are also talking about dropping glass phones. Sure it's technically a plastic glass composite material, but they will crack with enough force. Like I said above, I dropped my first one like 5 times without a case and only got a few cracks on the back glass, the front has hit the ground at waist height several times and it never cracked which really surprised me that the back cracked but not the front. I definitely would get a case. The Otterbox Commuter case is really nice because it's tough but still slim enough for easy entry and removal of your pocket. And yes insurance plans like Best Buy's GSP is definitely a must for this price point.
Same happened to mine, a couple of low drops (1 bounce) with no external damage.
The display turned green and eventually died.
From the way the support centre answered, it seems that they have high numbers of this problem.
So, I just installed the Whitestone Dome on my S10+.
1) Installation is complicated for someone who has never done this kind of screen protector before.
2) Fingerprint for me is working exactly as before. If I put the finger in the right place for enough time then I get like 100% success rate. Don't even need to press harder than before.
3) I got bubbles... My desk wasn't perfectly flat, so like 30% of the adhesive started spilling out and I think this caused the bubbles, but you can avoid it by doing it in a perfectly flat surface.
I hate having bubbles cos it's a expensive screen protector, but they are not as bad... so maybe in the future I'll try to reapply it.

I would look on Ali Express for replacement uv screens. You already have what probably cost the most from White Stone, which is the application contraption.
Well, for me, it was hard to apply it the first time. I'm glad I went with the box with 2 screens protectors.
About 2 or 3 weeks after applying it, I started noticing some cracks on it even if the I didn't drop the phone nor had it in same pocket as change and keys but still it was good. a couple of days ago I accidentally dropped the phone from about 1m high and it did absorb the chock very well. I'll definitely would get a replacement from them soon.
As for the fingerprint it does work fine and I have about 9:10 success rate.
After one month of use I have a different view on this.
1) Fingerprint stops working after a few days and you need to redo the prints every 3/4 days. Even if you do that, it won't work great.
2) I can see more bubbles than before, specially on the edges.
3) One corner has a small crack, so can't reapply it... I think I only droped it once and I have a strong case, so the glass didn't even touched the floor.
I would recommend not to expend this amount of money on this. It would be ok if it costed 20 usd. But 50? 40? It's just too expensive for this product.
In my case it was perfect installation, following instructions. I'd say fingerprint is harder todete t now

i installed the white dome.. i have used them on many many phones.. have to say finger printer scanner doesnt work worth a **** now with it on there.

They have an old video and an updated one. The update one will tell you to cure the bottom and top for 15 seconds each, and then take the phone out and apply pressure for a minute to the finger print reader. Not too hard not to soft. I did it more on the hard side just to make sure. Then cure all around for 4 mins total top and bottom. The finger print reader will work as if it was naked. Trust me I tried this glass for the 5th time. And this little info did the trick. You know it you did it right if you attempt to use it without redoing your fingerprint. It would be a hit and miss until you rescan it. I would also leave your old one in there incase you have to remove it. So you dont have to redo the fps again.

First I applied it as I was used to with my s8 and it resulted in a very unreliable fingerprint scanner. Then second time I followed the instuction of dome Glas and as BuBbLeFIZzY's mentioned... it worked out perfectly. It's like 95% fingerprint accuracy so basicly as it was before.
I can recommend this. Just do the pressing after first stage trick and it will be perfect.
Save your money. Dome Glas is in my opinion not worth it (I had one) and the Installation without the frame was equaly difficult or easy. (I think it is even easier to apply the protector without the plastic around it because you can soak up spare adhesive at the edges.)
I think it's great. Just make sure you register your warranty and you can get a new one for $10 bucks. And make sure you keep the light because they only send you the screen and 2 glue and the frame. For some reason I been dropping my phone alot lately and keep cracking it. So i claimed at least twice within a month and they dont care. I think they know it cracks real easy. Also save your finger print with and without the screen protector so if it does crack you dont need to redo it all over again. Even though I had set the fp with the glass on when I took it off it still worked. And still did when I had to put a new one on. Just dont forget to press real firm for a minute like I said before.

Until they think "Yeah, that's enough" and just deny you your warranty request. They did that after 3 times to me and haven't been able to resolve it.

Well that sucks. This my 4th time and just got approved yesterday for the new one. Maybe dont do it 3 times within a month? Lol.
FWIW, I got this one from BB and had them install it. That was the key. They messed up with three of them, no cost to me. Then one was on pretty good, and over about four months it started showing wear and tear. Took it back in and they replaced it again. No charge. This one is solid, no bubbles, no drama. I can't speak to the whole "hybrid" thing, seems like a normal screen protector to me, but the scratches and dings my first one had would have messed up my screen for sure.
In this case, it was $40 well spent for a $1000 phone. And I thought sure they would have given me drama about the length of time I had it on, but not one problem. Watching them open up four $40 protectors off the floor was a trip the first time,. I couldn't imagine trying to do it myself. Like I said, FWIW

Yesterday I decided to buy the Whitestone, more out of curiosity. I applied it myself.
The installation was the most difficult I've done on any phone, too many parts, too many things to consider, too many perfectly timed actions needed. I wasn't able to avoid the mistake, so I got two small bubbles at the center of the screen. The look bad when the screen is off.
I did my best and followed the instructions as closely as possible, especially concerning the fingerprint scanner, which is a must for me. So, I can safely say that I'm on my second day and the fingerprint scanner works more than 90% well. I could go as far as to say that it works even better than before, maybe because the glass gives me a better feeling. Only time will tell, I'll keep you posted. One thing's is for sure, its price is off the charts and does not allow too many experiments, €40 is a lot of money for something that disposable and easy to get destroyed.
