{ROM} BlurHero 9.27.09

First off, I take absolutely no credit for making this ROM, this is a hybrid of JAC's latest ROM and Drizzy's BLUR port. There wasn't too much time put into this, but it works surprisingly well.
What you need:
Same stuff as pretty much as every other Hero ROM,
but I recommend around 90mb for linux-swap, that makes it run
pretty smooth, and I only have a 2gb card.
Known Bug:
Sometimes when you reboot, it freezes on the HTC screen, just pull out the battery
and it will boot just fine.
FYI, I am not a dev so I will not be fixing any problems, I just threw this together:

Edit: Sorry forgot to put absolutely no SMS issue, except any that are available in any HERO ROM.

Does this have the SMS problem on the DrizzyBluev1 has? (can't send?)

Kind of, it looks half BLUR (animations, redish scheme, but you can see 3g icons and EDGE icon) and then JACHEROSKI for the rest of the scheme.

does sms issue fixed?

I personally won't be flashing anything from someone who says that they won't be fixing anything and isn't a DEV....be prepared to be flamed heavily....

You dont have to be a dev to put together a signed package with tested files....it doesnt take a genius to do the sh**t I do. I would be a developers i just lack the time. Now I thought that I would do the community a favor by putting this together so 'n00bs' could just flash it instead of manually pushing all the files in this. And I wont be fixing anything because this rom is pretty damn stable if u must know, y dont u try it instead of bashing it?

so why make a rom u dont really wanna be a part of(meaning u wont update if something is wrong)...why waste the time.. im wasting my time replying to this.

LOL I dribbled a little bit from that one. I agree with that though.

not bashing it at all....just with the animations being easily manueverable and already included in drizzy's rom...don't see the point of creating this ROM ALSO just wait until about 10-20 idiots flash this and blow your PM box up full of "How i do RoOt?? Do I NeEd to WiPe" then you'll see what i was getting at....it's all good....

The only reason I made this is because the BLUR animations are awesome, and I wanted to use the ROM but I like being able to send txt's...That was the whole point. So i cooked a ROM that has all the animations that is stable and has the ability to send SMS.
And I agree, let the haters hate.

One thing that I did notice was the predictive auto correct wasn't working either. Is that something you didn't like? I've tried installing the HTC_IME from different roms but it never gives me the predictive part of it. Just wondering.. everything else looks good. Agreed blur looks good.

i understand that but as we all kno problem do occur sometimes with hero...but u saying u wont fix any problems or issues it seems that it has issues and u choose not to fix them...thats what turned me off...not hating i just wanted to state how i felt..

Um, Drizzy hasn't ported BLUR. He has a partial dump he pulled a few visuals from, but it is far from ported. Other than that though, nice work. I'm sure a few people will find it useful if they don't feel like waiting for him to fix sms. Couldn't you have just done it as a theme rather than a whole rom that you don't plan to support?

Can anybody tell me where can I find Dink's and DJC full Anastiasia Theme?
This is great looking theme and unfortunetaly it's no longer avilable.

Closing the thread because of a fallout over who has rights to which dialer graphics is extremely poor form.
I dont even use the theme but find this situation absolutely ridiculous.
Previously there was drama over someone creating a template for anastasia icons and again that thread was shut down.
This whole community on XDA is supposed to be about helping each other improve our devices.
The sort of Prima Donna attitude that is being displayed by certain people here is quite simply... pathetic.
Just to re-iterate... i dont use any component of the anastasia theme at all and never plan to do so.
I just feel that i needed to comment on these situations as it really is a very bad attitude for any designers/creators to take.
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and everyone knows who is the original inspiration behind the anastasia concept. But to go and pull down all of your work over petty differences regarding where credit is due really does show people who you truly are.
This sort of attitude only hurts yourself in the long run as people will probably stop using any of your works entirely because at any minute there is a possibility you will throw a hissy fit and do the same thing again. I know i myself will certainly steer clear.
I do not wish to offend anyone with this post but simply wanted to make my feelings clear with situations like this.

I gotta say, I agree with you 100%. I didn't want to start this debate first, but I'm glad that you've let this out of yourself.
The XDA itself is a community which exists for helping and sharing, but some people do not understand that concept at all.
When I saw the reason for pulling the whole "project", I couldn't help myself sayin': "What the f***?" I'm surely a lot of people reacted the same way, but if you decide to open this debate, you gotta take sides in this case, considering the fact that there are two devs in this project.
I'm not going to say on which side I am on, but one thing is for certain: Canceling the whole project for the reason that we have seen is absolutely & utterly ridiculous!

I agree with the posts above. The tension around anything Anastasia is ridiculous. Clearly that's a lot of work for one person, if people are happy to help let them as long as they give you credit for it. I also find it against what XDA is about to start with but to each their mind I guess.

I'm pretty sure the argument is about using a design made by someone else. Anyway, if people want to help that's supposed to be good, he has lots of projects going on at the same time (theme, dialer, keyboard, slider, icons, etc.)

a new keyboard

i was looking though the touch wiz sys dump and i liked the keyboard so i put it in an update format. Just flash it, i gurantee youll like it. If not just remove it. I included the lwp as well that were posted earlier the lwp from it too, they work great on the phone though, I need someone to test it for me, cus swype is a pain to remove w/o wiping, and i already have all this on my phone. you just need to flash it like a rom. It contains 4lwp and 1keyboard app and their libs...dl the new lwp and kb HERE ​

no time, sorry. you can rip them out and just install though, just make sure you take the lib files that go with them in your libs folder and the apps in your sys/app or data/app folder.

thanks for testing it and the quick feedback. i stated that it included the lwps in the op. they are from the new touch wiz dump. Ill check to see whats up with swype, just figured id throw it out there for those that didnt see this stuff yet....also, did you remove your old swype completely? or did you not have it? cus its VERY hard to get rid of.....just wondering so i can fix if something wrong.

sorry about that, and thanks.ok, soon as i get home ill post a link to a really sweet htc skinned swype mod. i use the red one in my newest rom, but the green one is slick too. im going to hang out for a little bit, when i get back ill put it up, and just take it out of the other one and ill mess with it, since its a full version.....

You saw something you liked, but didn't test it because its too much work to uninstall what you already have but that's ok because you already have it installed so you need someone else to take a blind leap of faith and install something you "gurantee" they'll like but if they don't that's ok too because they can just uninstall it (which really they can't do easily) but if you want to see what it is in the first place tough luck because you're out and about and have no time to post a screenshot for your own quasi-release?

I strongly recommend that if you want to be taken seriously, you put a little more thought into your release posts. I applaud you for taking the time to share with the community, but frivolous posting of root-level patches without some form of quality control on your part could lead to a dangerous precedent of buggy and/or malicious code being introduced in the same channels.
I know you probably have the communities best interest at heart, but holding yourself to a higher standard keeps the bar high for the rest of those issuing releases to demonstrate an aptitude for solid documentation so people know precisely what to expect from dedicated contributors.

Do you really think i need YOU or ANYONE else to take ME seriously? my work speaks for itself, i could care less what you think of me, but just dont be disrespectful or snotty about it when you obviously have no clue as to what i do, if you say " which really they can't do easily" when you are speaking about removing a single app.I take it youve never been to dev? cus thats what ive been doing for the past 3 days, is working on my last rom. Then when i finish something that takes more than a day i take a break. I am not a developer nor have i ever claimed to be one.i have many contributions to the site,and taken a **** ton of time making sure my theads for them are maintained and everything i work on i support. Not a blind leap of faith, i have many pps that ASK to test for me because i dont have time to when im working. I have a 8mo old and fiance to take care of as well, this cannot be my ENTIRE life(though i might enjoy that)ive been asked permission to port 4 of my roms to other devices, and about 100 pps i talk to on a regular basis,you can talk to that will tell you another story about what I can DO. ? is what can YOU do? and WHY would you be ragging on someone who makes regular contributions to the site to help members enjoy their newest hardware just a little bit more? you want to see more go to hero-cdma and tell me some more about quality control. Also, that guy apparently doesn't realize how big of an asset you've been to the hero and evo communities. Keep up the great work!

Not at the moment, not until I expand upon knowledge. For right now, we're going to be picking up fixing the 4.x series of GenericGinger with our own belief, (Hewett and I) and releasing it as a spin-off. Deciding on a name, but I'm thinking IcyBlaze, it's definitely up for debate however!

Indeed. That word is quite annoying. This project is completely open source. If you feel you guys can do better, well jump right in, and do better!

Have you guys been in contact with Team Platypus? You might get alot of help from them, as Ayoteddy and sduvick have pretty much been here from the beginning. Good source to start with.

I would contact them, but they've contributed so much, and even so, they have lives. I couldn't possibly disturb them. I'm going to pick up where they left off, is all.

JiN has been ban hammered for kanging. Scripts are not covered under the open source agreement there for he kanged. Open source or not doesnt give someone the right to steal another devs hard work. Anyone who fails to ask for permission to use my copyrighted pending scripts will be reported. All you need to do is ask. I wont say no if you ask. How hard is that. Im all for helping out the community but stealing will not be tolerated by me. Now if you guys want a real developers help then let me know.

Anyone who fails to ask for permission to use my copyrighted pending scripts will be reported. All you need to do is ask. I wont say no if you ask. How hard is that. I think we all as a community appreciate the build.prop and GPS mod you did for the SK. We do, really. But, I think you more than hammered the SK a blow to the face. If JiN1337 can't work on it now, who will?
Btw, Reactive, I don't think it has much to do with you why JiN1337 did what he did. In the post, he said Reviewers kicked him out for no reason. I remember reading it that night, and 4 hours later he made a spin-off contribution.

Let's clear something up right now.
Whilst Android is open source the rules of XDA state that if you do not have permission to use the work of somebody else then you cannot use it.
Furthermore, the Android OS is not covered by the GPL it falls under the Apache license. It is not my responsibility to educate people of these licenses so I will just say this. Follow the rules and if you don't know what you're talking about, stop talking.

[DISCUSSION] Developers not wanting other developers to use their work?

Hello, I'd like to preface this post by saying it's not my goal to accuse anyone of anything or start a flame war. I'm genuinely curious, and just want some open discussion.
I've been confused recently by an undercurrent of resentment or ill-will in the development section. Dev's threads getting closed or deleted for not getting permission to use this or that in their ROM, snide remarks about their abilities in the ROM release thread, long rambling posts about "haters," etc.
What's with this? From my perspective, it almost looks like developers think they should have the right to post edits/changes to HTC's software and framework without permission, but then turn around and say nobody else can build upon their edits without permission.
I firmly believe in giving credit where credit is due, but isn't it a bit counter-productive and even hypocritical to have threads taken down because another dev says "hey I didn't say you could use that!" Isn't XDA built upon the fact that HTC and other manufacturers turn a blind eye to us using and altering their work and releasing the altered product without permission? What am I missing here?
Just to reiterate one more time: I'm not trying to be accusatory, I just honestly want to understand the other side of this argument and why this behavior is being tolerated around here. Thanks!

There has been a few ROMs posted here, that are completely 'kanged' from someone elses ROM.. Now i know the ROM is based of HTC so we all should do as we wish with it, But when someone has spent a lot of time ironing out bugs, adding tweaks and generally reducing the size and making the ROM better... And then someone steals that, changes the build.prop to change the ROMs name and release it as their own is totally out of order..
Now not to mention any names, but this has been done several times since the release of this phone, Its this sort of behaviour that puts serious Developers off the idea of making this phone better for us all..
Majority of the Devs here hardly get paid for what they do, I doubt they receive enough in donations to jack there job and do this full time.. So wouldnt you be annoyed if someone stole your work ? and every one was giving you credit and thanks and donations, Even though those credits / donations belong to someone else ?
We should SHARE in this community, The majority of us do, However we should NOT KANG other peoples work..
Im a big kanger, i kang 3-4 ROMs together, Using bits i like from each ROM and use it as my daily driver, However I would not dream of releasing it as it goes against everything i stand for..

What sucks is if you PM the developer they still say "No" so what is a win win in this situation? People like the word "kanging". It's not kanging at all because none of these files were made by you! All of these files were made by HTC and there Team! Don't claim anything !

So what about leedroids ROM ?? None of his tweaks came built into the HTC ROM, Hes made them himself.. Would you just take his work even if he said no ??

Surely the win win situation is to put the effort in and make these mods / tweaks yourself ?? If a Dev says no, He doesnt mean, sneakily take it and rename it.

No I never said that.
I'm just saying. Don't call your work yours because how about if HTC said "Nobody can use our ROM's a base" then if we use it we get sued.
Half of the ROM's are just built of there base with tons of modified things and they still get stuff from other people about "kanging" even with permission etc.
If you don't ask permission for work you can't use the ROM/files etc.

Surely HTC make the ROM and it clearly states 'Do not distribute outside of HTC blabla legal action' Yet every ROM here did so in theory we are all kangers..
But what about android in General ? AOSP / AOKP / MIUI.. all built from scratch.. The effort and hard work Devs put in to make these ROMs work, Surely taking their work and using it without permission is wrong ? wouldn't you agree ?

That's life but I think the people should relax a bit more.
Until Lee's ROM there were only Stock ROMs with some improvement's and tweaks by he_stheone64.
Lee (a great and maybe the best dev) now included any tweaks which available.
But remember that he "only ported" the things from Jan (j4n87 or so is his name).
In fact the whole developement story is just kanging.- Kanging the release's of the company..

I don't think it is a matter of developers not wanting other developers to use there work- it is the fact that they didn't ask! Alot of work goes into making these Roms- it takes less than a min to send a pm- I know - i've done it

Agreed. We're all a huge team/community just making our own ROMs and putting our personal touches to them. It's not about doing something and achieving something, and not wanting to share. Getting permission to use is all that's really required.
No need to fight over this stuff guys....it's just a mistake that can be fixed. No biggie. Just follow the proper procedures and avoid unnecessary run-ins like this. Let's focus on giving the community what they want....and that's options!!!

Not a dev, but been around awhile
On the HTC side--my impression is they don't mind these kangs, even back to the N1. Hence they allow unlocking. They monitor these forums and look for the improvements by the devs to help them also.
Now, that is just my understanding from xda posts I have read going back 2 years on this topic, I may be wrong--
Otherwise, 100% support for asking first and giving credit to original devs--

Thanks for the replies. It makes sense to ask permission first before using others' work- only common courtesy I appreciate the different thoughts on this. Helps to understand where this stuff is coming from. Hopefully this doesn't become a downward spiral of devs having ill-will towards each other and refusing to work together.
Also, I never said HTC was against this community or what it does- only that it seemed hypocritical from some devs to take their work, alter it, and then actively try to stop others from building upon that.

I would hope this brings us closer together- I am new to the dev world- but have been around xda for years. I have no ill will towards ANYONE. Hell people make mistakes- I make mistakes- fix the problem - then move on. We are here for each-other.

with relation to Htc themselves..im still in shock they havent implemented some of the modifications that xda or devs in general have come up with
htc need to be hiring some of the devs..if only to get rid of the nasty status bar they insist on keeping..in some ways i think they are doing it on purpose just to grate people!
look at the one s source for example..many people have complained and its still not released lol..i think they are just laughing at us

This is my view, Android is open source right? I mean I agree 100% Give credit where it is due but the thing is, we don't give credit to HTC for the rom base every time. It seems like when a system UI for example is modified, i don't see the issue that if you give them credit why do you have to ask them? Did we ask HTC if we can Mod their system UI? I mean its not like it was ours in the first place. It seems all over rated. If you say Hey thanks John Doe for the Blah blah blah then it shouldn't be an issue. That is one thing that can really put a damper on Development.
Look at the situation with people getting mad at HTC for having the HTC Evita (ATT One X) Having a locked bootloader! some of the devs and people here think they are entitled to these things.
Another Example, The HTC Ruby (Amaze 4G) S-off situation. HTC gives them an unlocked bootloader and they Demand S-off from them. I mean where does they hypocrisy end.
Basically, I believe that if dev's are going to request people to ask them first. I want the Dev's to call up htc before they make a rom, in addition to putting "Huge thanks to HTC for the rom base!" In their threads. Its open source, if they want it closed source then I advise the call apple and develop for them.
