i was looking though the touch wiz sys dump and i liked the keyboard so i put it in an update format. Just flash it, i gurantee youll like it. If not just remove it. I included the lwp as well that were posted earlier the lwp from it too, they work great on the phone though, I need someone to test it for me, cus swype is a pain to remove w/o wiping, and i already have all this on my phone. you just need to flash it like a rom. It contains 4lwp and 1keyboard app and their libs...dl the new lwp and kb HERE
Any chance of just getting the KB?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

no time, sorry. you can rip them out and just install though, just make sure you take the lib files that go with them in your libs folder and the apps in your sys/app or data/app folder.

thanks for testing it and the quick feedback. i stated that it included the lwps in the op. they are from the new touch wiz dump. Ill check to see whats up with swype, just figured id throw it out there for those that didnt see this stuff yet....also, did you remove your old swype completely? or did you not have it? cus its VERY hard to get rid of.....just wondering so i can fix if something wrong.

sorry about that, and thanks.ok, soon as i get home ill post a link to a really sweet htc skinned swype mod. i use the red one in my newest rom, but the green one is slick too. im going to hang out for a little bit, when i get back ill put it up, and just take it out of the other one and ill mess with it, since its a full version.....
Let me see if I can accurately decipher this thread:
You saw something you liked, but didn't test it because its too much work to uninstall what you already have but that's ok because you already have it installed so you need someone else to take a blind leap of faith and install something you "gurantee" they'll like but if they don't that's ok too because they can just uninstall it (which really they can't do easily) but if you want to see what it is in the first place tough luck because you're out and about and have no time to post a screenshot for your own quasi-release?
If I were Canadian, I'd add "Eh?" at the end of that.
I strongly recommend that if you want to be taken seriously, you put a little more thought into your release posts. I applaud you for taking the time to share with the community, but frivolous posting of root-level patches without some form of quality control on your part could lead to a dangerous precedent of buggy and/or malicious code being introduced in the same channels.
I know you probably have the communities best interest at heart, but holding yourself to a higher standard keeps the bar high for the rest of those issuing releases to demonstrate an aptitude for solid documentation so people know precisely what to expect from dedicated contributors.
Good Luck!

Do you really think i need YOU or ANYONE else to take ME seriously? my work speaks for itself, i could care less what you think of me, but just dont be disrespectful or snotty about it when you obviously have no clue as to what i do, if you say " which really they can't do easily" when you are speaking about removing a single app.I take it youve never been to dev? cus thats what ive been doing for the past 3 days, is working on my last rom. Then when i finish something that takes more than a day i take a break. I am not a developer nor have i ever claimed to be one.i have many contributions to the site, and taken a **** ton of time making sure my theads for them are maintained and everything i work on i support. Not a blind leap of faith, i have many pps that ASK to test for me because i dont have time to when im working. I have a 8mo old and fiance to take care of as well, this cannot be my ENTIRE life(though i might enjoy that)ive been asked permission to port 4 of my roms to other devices, and about 100 pps i talk to on a regular basis, you can talk to that will tell you another story about what I can DO. ? is what can YOU do? and WHY would you be ragging on someone who makes regular contributions to the site to help members enjoy their newest hardware just a little bit more? you want to see more go to hero-cdma and tell me some more about quality control. Thanks for this magnusragnarok! Any chance you could try to get an update zip with the t9 ime in the i9000 dump? I'm curious to see how the Sammy virtual keyboard looks. Also, that guy apparently doesn't realize how big of an asset you've been to the hero and evo communities. Keep up the great work!

SERIOUSLY, why whould you make it 2wice as bad by requoting the entire post in ITALICS? GOOD JOB. PLEASE try to remain on topic, this is a thread about a kb and the touch wiz lwp i put together in one update for everyones convenience, not about my choice of font and color. If we were not allowed the choice we would not have it available to us.
If you took a moment to actually absorb what I posted, you would recognize I did not besmirch your contributions, but was offering a point of constructive criticism.
Regardless of the quality or lack thereof of your "releases", your posts are plagued with you getting into flame wars with people because you feel like you have to defend yourself against any form of critique you don't agree with.
But hey, if you have five people who think your work is on par with some of those that I have donated to, by all means cater to that denominator. I'll gladly keep my feedback to myself and save it for someone who can handle dialogue with a little more class.

Hi,
I see that we have many many roms and 2 types of Sapphire (32B and 32A)
Now I have an idea to help users to install and change rom easierly.
Please read all idea before replying. Some ideas relate to others.
1. All developer should make 2 choices : 32A rom or 32B rom
2. 32B rom have data/app_s. Running system application on flash memory is more stable and faster than running on ext partition sdcard
3. Recovery should have new feature : Wipe data except data/app_s
Amon_RA should add this feature in his recovery.
4. Developers should remove his own theme, 3rd application (which can download from market), moded application ... from rom, rom will be more stable and smaller
5. If developer want share his theme or moded application or add new feature, he should share extend update in an update_extend.zip on his topic. I suggest him to use 1 folder on sdcard and command *.sh file
If you used iPhone, you will see that moded FW of iPhone OS doesn't include theme, extend application (which can download from Appstore). Why can't we do that? I think almost people just want to find a stable rom without theme, without extend application
Some good ideas
+1 from me
Moar standardization pleez
Sounds like the OP is ill-informed, and wants an iPhone.

i've seen a few of these in the dream forum.
the developer releases the rom as a base package. ie. rom only, no (or very few customisations).
then add on packs are released to add 3rd party apps and customisations.
eg. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456
this developer has released 4 different roms. each one comes as a base rom that is rooted, and each rom also then has an expansion pack.
themes are then installed as separate downloads.
the post is also very clearly laid out. i wish more developers took the time to create such understandable threads.
Isn't this request cramping developer's style?
Yes that is what you may want. But at the end of the day, they are doing it out of their enjoyment. It's their project and they have free reign on what they do and when they do it. Out of shear good will developers share. Its not up to us to make requests on how things should be. Our roles is to be supportive and grateful for their contributions.
That's not to say your ideas aren't valid... perhaps just not entirely feasible.

Good Say My friend
seems like a pretty simple request. but what was said earlier has merit as well, since it is really the developer's choice since its done for free.
but yeah, some sort of options like Enthomer is nice. But then again those updates made by AmonRa and Cyanogen is awesome as well. Fast, stable and useful.
Oh, and I strongly support the part on the way the threads are made. some are really easy to follow up on for change logs and stuff, some are messy.

well, although 'm not a dev, but as users this idea is pretty workable. at least we had lesser unneccesary thread and will look more neat and tidy. thats what make xda more professional and classy. way to go devs. +1 to the idea.
thanks.
OP, good idea, but not everyone may think like you, including the DEVs. There is nothing wrong with what you are stating, but it has been mentioned before that different DEVs want to work on different things; some people want to be unique.
One more thing, can you please not use the word should so much, please?
My wife uses it all the time..."you should clean this" " you should go here" " you should say this". thanks.

Agreed. Although some of the requests are somewhat reasonable, it's up to the devs to decide what they want to do with their free time and they are dedicating so much of it to making such great contributions to begin with.
We're not paying for the dev's services, so i dont think we have much pull on how they design their ROMS (nor should we)
I think if you want a specific ROM a specific way. YOU should be learning how to code and cook ROMS for yourself.

Read and lol'd. This is probably pretty close to the truth.
Well I for one salute the OP for finally taking a stand and telling the devs what we really want. After all it is all about ME and what I want and they should bloody well be grateful that I even bother to tell them what is wrong with their work, and they should fix it faster. I am a busy guy and can't be bothered to figure out this stuff for myself....
If any of that even vaguely resonates with you... here is a very small clue, completely free of charge...
The devs do this work for their own reasons. Some do it for the challenge, some do it for fun, some do it because they want something different, some do it for the glory. However, they all share it and make the results of their hard work available for the benefit of us end user types. Many even provide free support and hand holding, answering the same questions over and over.
You can politely ask for things to change. If you structure your request well enough and it makes sense, some devs may see the benefit and change. Others will not. Trying to dictate standards of documentation, presentation, features, or packaging just is not going to work, and quite frankly why should it. They are not doing it for you, you are just benefiting as a side effect of them being willing to release their work.
I am sure if you were willing to pay regular software developer rates for a particular feature set, you could find folks willing to accommodate you. Unless you are willing to do that, consider that you already get far more than you pay for.

So I guess we should also stop giving developers suggestions and bug reports, because who wants to fix bugs for enjoyment? I disagree quite a lot with your post; it is in fact our role to make requests. How are ROMs supposed to get better without the input of its users? You completely contradict yourself by saying that we should not "make requests" but we should "be supportive," because by making requests, you are being supportive. By trying to better the project, you are being far more supportive than a silent user.
It's not like funbacon's suggestion has malicious intent. Neither is he trying to dictate what devs should and should not do. You don't have to agree with all of his points, but dismissing the whole thing because of one point, or the fact that he referenced the iPhone, is stupid. It's a suggestion, which most of you have said is a good idea, yet don't think it should be incorporated because... of the vocabulary used? Or maybe it's some other reason, but I have yet to see another valid reason.
Will this work in practice? That's another discussion. But I believe having some standards and general guidelines will be immensely helpful and make it simpler to try different ROMs.
Rydr1, you need counseling. Or a divorce.

So... all the developers here make ROMs for themselves, but are nice enough to post it for everyone else to use?
Wow, haha. What a distorted view you have there. (Most?) developers aren't as selfish as you think they are. Developers make ROMs so the people who visit this forum can benefit from them, or at least that's the general reason. Why do you think they release updates often to fix bugs or add new functionality, or address issues and suggestions brought up by users?
Or, if I were to look at it from your point of view: users are just tools that devs use to make their ROM better.
Yeah, no. You shouldn't think so lowly of devs here. They should be appreciated, you know.
1.I will say that i've had android since day 1 and funbacon was around at that time to. helping and making changes himself to certain roms and apks etc...and helped other people, so he shouldnt be treated as a noob that doesnt know what he is talking about or that he is whining because that is not the case.
2. He made a suggestion that has to do with development and posted in the correct spot and he still hears **** from it? when there are people posting in deveoplment forums that has nothing to do it " what rom is the best, or what phone should i buy" and they dont get as much **** as your handing to someone that made a DEVELOPMENT suggestion and a good one. in the correct section. so people shouldnt be downing him for his work/suggestions

For those of you out there that want aosp+cam I read alot of threads here and i know im not the only one that wanted this....Heres how I did it:
NOTE:This method WILL NOT WORK with launcher2. It CRASHES everything!!!
1)Wipe
2)Flash DarchLegendv4.1
3)Reboot
4)DL Helix (or use Home)
5)Disable Sense default
6)Choose Helix or Home(sense will NOT work)
7)Push LiveWallPaperPicker.apk to system apps
8)Push LiveWallPaper.apk to system apps
9)ADB Reboot Recovery
10)Flash the following update zip for AOSP bar(plus you get a sweet pearl rosie) http://www.4shared.com/get/243892390/d77fb176/DarchLegendV4_WhiteRosieTaskba.html
11)Optional#1):To get nexus mod. dl this file:http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=294834&d=1268802202...next open the zip and follow the directions below (disregard the launcher2 file)
adb remount
adb push <location of libRS.so> /system/lib
adb push <location of librs_jni.so> /system/lib
adb reboot
12)Optional#2): To get starfield,settings/150stars or less & it will start working!
FINALLY ENJOY YOUR NEW AOSP-like2.1, I Know I AM. Darch is awesome
thanks for the guide, but this is mainly just like a AOSP skin, it just *looks* like AOSP, the htc framework is still there with all their funky apps and backround services right?
That's the part I like the best, the general cleanliness of AOSP. Thanks though, I'll try it out.
Not just a skin
Actually, darch made this rom too. And THIS legend version i really like because of all the possibilities, i'm making my own version as we speak to include all of this stuff. But no, its not just a skin. I wouldnt go thru the effort of typing long instructions like that for just a skin. Give it a try, trust me. Youll thank me later
This is not "full function AOSP."
This is great, and will hold me over until a true AOSP 2.1 is developed. Thanks for the info.

By your own standards, my opinion is valid since I have tried this as is evidenced by this picture I posted 2 days ago here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5896331&postcount=488 and again yesterday after the Nexus news herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5918537&postcount=517. My only issue is that this is indeed a skin. Well, a skinned home replacement app. The "AOSP" taskbar is just modded HTC framework, and Helix is just as app. Everything else runs on HTC software, and is no way AOSP. Clearly you can see that I enjoy this look by the referenced links, but I think you should be more responsible with your labeling and call it what it is. Some people who dont understand the difference between a HTC ROM and an AOSP will be misled into thinking this is something its clearly not. I just think it should be labeled what it actually is in the thread description, and not bannered as something that does not exist.
EDIT- Also, there is no need to push the lib files to DarchLegend. Theyre already in the ROM when you download it.
Where can one find LiveWallPaper.apk and LiveWallPaperPicker.apk?
agree
I would have tried this had I not read this information
thanks
not AOSP
Simply put, this is not AOSP. AOSP has a different codebase which does not contain the HTC frameworks. Even without Rosie running, the frameworks will take up memory. That said, I have been working on a rom (which recently got deleted ). This rom will be the 2.1 Sense rom but without anything Sense related. I am going to try to remove the HTC frameworks but I can't guarantee that. At the very least it will look and act like AOSP 2.1. The difference between that one and this one is that everything Sense related will be removed including Rosie, widgets and the Sense services such as social network provider, etc. They all eat up memory which slows down the phone.

no I completely understand what this is and does, I'm not arguing that it's like a skin for a home replacement. My argument is that all the background stuff is still there, all the htc framework for the radio to work, settings, all that crap.
Darch doesn't replace all the "guts" of the htc build to that of the AOSP, he just ports someone's system dump to another phone. I don't do this for a living so I can't go into it any more than that, and I only say things I'm fairly certain are true, so if I go any deeper I'd probably be talking out my butt.
I'm glad to see a new face in the lines of development and hope to try out your custom build when you release it. You sound a little confrontational right now so I'm just going to leave it at that. cheers.

This is something I've been waiting on since the first custom rom came out, someone who found a way to remove senceUI, roseie, and all the htc crap. Very much looking forward to this sir.

I have no opinion on it. Merely stating a fact.
I'm sure it's a very nice skin/whatever, and that you've put a lot of work into it and that some people want it and like it. I am simply suggesting that you don't call it "full function 2.1 AOSP" because it is absolutely not. IMO that's an insult to the Open Source Project, and it is highly misleading to people who are not as well informed about it as others.
yea id be pretty salty if i went to the honda dealership because i needed a hybrid to save on gas and when i got home and looked under the hood of my brand new hybrid only to find a carburated v8 that gets 6 miles to the gallon.. IMO thats what this is like the theme is fine and all that but its not a aosp rom
Thanks for the positivity...

Thanks for the constructive criticism,i really appreciate it. I didnt see this coming. Also; i should not have assumed that because i actually put the rom i was using in the thread title everyone would KNOW it was not android open source project framework. I was trying to create a workaround for anybody that wanted AOSP "feel" i guess. The best way to describe it is not what i was trying to do. I was trying to appeal to the ppl that liked the Darchdroid aosp2.1 as much as i did. Except here you get cam and camcorder. THIS IS NOT AOSP FRAMEWORK ITS HTC. But then again everyone upset about this already knows that. Trying to help the community, not confuse the less knowledgable
SORRY ALL
Apologies to all Sorry if i upset anyone with this thread. That was not my intent. I have been here a while and i thought my thread title would have eliminated all of this. aosp style. I have not figured out how to mix aosp with legend framework. Thus my title. I thought everyone here knew what this was by reading the title. I am sorry if i mislead anyone, and you were disappointed by what you read. I will be even more specific with my titling in the future to avoid issues like this. I dont need to be scolded for thinking this was AOSP, because i didnt. IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING, THIS IS NOT REALLY AOSP FRAMEWORK. Sorry for the disappointment and any confusion i caused. My goal here is to contribute to the community that i learn so much from, when i come up with something new.

Good point with the cars and all. One big difference though....roms are free. Also, anything you do can be undone. Ive dl'd roms that didnt even boot,
so how mad could you be? I wasnt aware that everyone wanted like aosp on the inside, i dont have that yet. Thats just the outside for now. Took a little less than a day. I am butchering 2 of the new roms i like best. I hear alot of ppl love sense and alot of ppl love aosp. I was trying to appeal to both crowds in a superficial way of sorts. I am hard @ work trying to cook what is wanted @ this point now that i hear it. Thanks

What effort have you put in? It is not like it is difficult. I have been doing this sense stock 1.5. All your instructions are from already existing threads. People know you disable Sense and use Home. People also know that you can install the Nexus launcher.
Overall another useless thread with regurgitated information.
Can anybody tell me where can I find Dink's and DJC full Anastiasia Theme?
This is great looking theme and unfortunetaly it's no longer avilable.
If anybody has is I would be very greateful if you could send it to me..
my adress sebasbox (here you know what) wp.pl

Unfortunately no longer available.
I would also enjoy the full theme 50%.
Here is the theme for you .
Marcdu81, thank you.
I am too. Thank you
Here you can find also the complete bunch of single files: http://www.pocketpc.ch/htc-hd2-inte...iniks-djcs-anastasia-theme-v1-0-download.html
So what is the difference between the "full theme 100%" & the "full theme 50%"? Thanks for the link in PM de Wolfe
Any link for single files? The ones from above post have been deleted.

one more

100%-version means that the background of the clock e.g. is not transparent. 50%-version means that it is transparent 50%. Just try both and compare.

Closing the thread because of a fallout over who has rights to which dialer graphics is extremely poor form.
I dont even use the theme but find this situation absolutely ridiculous.
Previously there was drama over someone creating a template for anastasia icons and again that thread was shut down.
This whole community on XDA is supposed to be about helping each other improve our devices.
The sort of Prima Donna attitude that is being displayed by certain people here is quite simply... pathetic.
Just to re-iterate... i dont use any component of the anastasia theme at all and never plan to do so.
I just feel that i needed to comment on these situations as it really is a very bad attitude for any designers/creators to take.
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and everyone knows who is the original inspiration behind the anastasia concept. But to go and pull down all of your work over petty differences regarding where credit is due really does show people who you truly are.
This sort of attitude only hurts yourself in the long run as people will probably stop using any of your works entirely because at any minute there is a possibility you will throw a hissy fit and do the same thing again. I know i myself will certainly steer clear.
I do not wish to offend anyone with this post but simply wanted to make my feelings clear with situations like this.

I gotta say, I agree with you 100%. I didn't want to start this debate first, but I'm glad that you've let this out of yourself.
The XDA itself is a community which exists for helping and sharing, but some people do not understand that concept at all.
When I saw the reason for pulling the whole "project", I couldn't help myself sayin': "What the f***?" I'm surely a lot of people reacted the same way, but if you decide to open this debate, you gotta take sides in this case, considering the fact that there are two devs in this project.
I'm not going to say on which side I am on, but one thing is for certain: Canceling the whole project for the reason that we have seen is absolutely & utterly ridiculous!

I agree with the posts above. The tension around anything Anastasia is ridiculous. Clearly that's a lot of work for one person, if people are happy to help let them as long as they give you credit for it. I also find it against what XDA is about to start with but to each their mind I guess.

Well I can't wait for froyo + full file system lag fix
If you're not satisfied with the current rate of development, feel free to put together your own rom or even contribute to current development. The phone is what, two, three months old? Some phones didn't even have root methods for that long. If you wanted an att device that had a background of strong community hacking, should have gone with an htc device. The method of building roms on this phone is massively different and requires time to get everything sorted. And I'm willing to believe a lot of devs are waiting fur for the 2.2 source

I think you are taking this entire thread the wrong way.
I think the OP is trying to say that he has done all he can, where is something new? More things to play with.
Nowhere did he belittle or offend anyone. Nor was anything implied.
I have had my phone for 7 weeks - I want to see even more new ROMs -but in no way am I saying anything about anyone. I can't wait for the first Cyanogenmod either - I am impatient, just like I was when waiting for the Captivate launch day.

Looks to me like you are a good candidate to get in the kitchen and start cooking. That way you don't have to wait around for the roms and we can all play.
I don't think it's a matter of lightening up, I agree the op surely said "where are the roms?" That could have ben interpreted more than one way, which it was. Coming from the op of the forum nazi thread, sounds like you have plenty of time to start cooking and stop whining

Hey gunny, I know how you feel. I too am a bit bored. The rom development is great so far but that's starting to reach it's limit with what devs can do while we wait for froyo. I would love something new to play with. Maybe flash or some awesome game to come along that really pushes this device. Gps fix from sammysung would be nice. I could drive around using that to kill some boredom.
Anyway, props to the devs. Thank god we have some good ones. I would have been bored weeks ago without and with a laggy phone on top of that.
I understand both sides but unfortunately unless you know how to dev we all must be patient. These guys have done very good work and so far it is right on par with the Vibrant, and we all know T-mobile has many more dev's to work on ROMS. With more time will come better products, and all Galaxy S phones will be waiting for a while for 2.2. If Cyanogen comes out soon it shouldn't be hard for Eugene or someone to make a port of it, even if Eugene does not own a Captivate.
There's no need to fight guys, in all seriousness we have the best touch-screen phone on the whole market!
Gorgeous screen, specs, and soon to be a great international community of devs with the whole family of galaxy s line sharing ideas and accelerating the growth of development at a great pace.
Not to mention the soon to be implemented froyo that will not only introduce optimizations and flash, but also allow for a greater use of the phone's potential- spec wise.
Take into consideration the further development after froyo + full lag fix + a COMMUNITY effort of collaboration and I see a really bright future ahead of us.
Personally I LOVE my phone, it does everything I want it to do (I multi-task like a beast!!) BEAUTIFUL camera software.. I painlessly take panoramic shots! What more can you ask for?
Yes some high quality games compared to that of the iphone would be great, but the anti-piracy measures are not on par with the iphone at the moment, so we'll have to wait a little for the big-name app/game developers to step in.

I don't know what you mean by "all of my posts recently have had attitude." I generally answer any questions asked and follow it up with any advice I can offer. threads like this where, even unintentionally, the OP is kind of being dismissive toward the excellent work Unhelpful, DG, eugene (and a slew of others who I have forgotten to name).
it'd be fine if he was just opening a thread to say "I'm excited for something new! can't wait for froyo! woo!" it's that the attitude of this is "I'm bored with all the work everyone else has done." especially when it's someone who doesn't contribute to development (not counting donations, I have no idea if he has donated) himself. I just want people to be grateful for what they have right now... there's no need a open a thread saying "I want more but I want others to do the work"
Dude. Quit reading into stuff that isn't there. As for donated monies, I have indeed done so in the past. Lots. I HAVE NOT (REPEATING AGAIN) disparaged anyone or their work in my thread or any post I have ever made hear on XDA (feel free to search) If I am complaining about anything it's samsung, And YOU at the moment.

Better now?
And Kaik, I am NOT directing this at you personally, just used your quote. This is meant as a general comment not directed at any specific person....
Ok, I clicked on this thread because I could have written it myself, as it was intended. Which was obviously "Ok, I tried all the mods and now I want to try a new one or an update of 1 I already have."
For instance, as you can see from my signature, I run sre123. Last night, Designgears posted that 123a would be posted that night. I thought nothing of saying "ooo, can't wait, please hurry!!!" because DG knows how I meant it (I hope).
I have only seen a couple of REAL jerk posts, and those were like "hey thanks, your mod/rom broke my phone" idiots. Read the OP's and mod and your own risk, fools!
I have NEVER programmed. I understand what gets done here, having been a pc tech, but I can ONLY help by installing and testing and reporting results. This device and this forum has inspired me to try to learn what the guys like Cyanogen, Designgears, Eugene etc do. But until I learn, I will eagerly await new stuff to play with, much like the OP of this thread.
Sorry to type so long a note, but the ONLY thing that can ruin this forum is nazi's. I live in S Florida, got enough condo and homeowner association nazi's to deal with !!! =)

I wonder why that is. Dosn't seem intuitive that would be the case. TM is a much smaller carrier, with much less coverage. I can't imagine (of course maybe I'm short on imagination) that there are more people on the TM version than the Captivate.
I too am impatient. But the impatience is for the GPS Fix.
Gunny...I'm with you. Seems many people just try to take everything the wrong way. Of course, the fact is, writing things and having them read, the reader doesn't know what your mood is, and it is a fact that if it can be taken wrong, it will be by some.
If I had the time to invest, I'd get into the ROMs. In fact I started to get into DEV. Downloaded the tools, did a couple weeks playing. But my programming has never expanded to Java, and the learning curve is too large, so I guess I won't. I'd enjoy it, but being at the computer all the time is not how I want to spend my time. I already spend a lot of time on it.
Regarding the DEVs, I appreciate them, and enjoy their work, and contribute occasionally to those I tend to utilize and keep using. But that doesn't diminish my right to be impatient. All customers are, no?
I want the GPS fix. All Galaxy S phones come with a nonfunctioning GPS. Froyo will be great to have also but they need hurry up with the GPS. The Droid X and all Motorola Android phones have an awesome GPS out of the box. I'm hoping Samsung gets it together otherwise they're not worth buying if it lacks a feature that most phones nowadays have. This problem from Samsung shows they rush things out to fast and then once they're out they fail to repair phones currently released.
I'll be eating my words if an update gets released within a week though.

From what I have read about Dev's and Tmobile is mainly because Tmob was the first to have Android. Lots of them are familiar from being already on Tmob. But that is just what I have read, does not necessarily make it correct. The dev's for the Captivate are doing a phenomenal job getting us great products.
Highlighted portion: Joking aside since I know you are, if people are impatient they really should start learning how to do this stuff. The intent of the thread missed the mark based on how it was written. We all want more ROM's or theme's or launchers etc...and they are coming but nobody has any say to be impatient when the majority of these dev's do these on a donation basis. How bad would it suck when people continue to feel impatient and the dev's decide to not dev anymore?
so im about to do it. been wanting a tablet for some time and as nice as the xoom looks for 1/2 the price this make sense.
can a newbie root? i dont know the first thing about programming. ive searched the forums, and i see roms, and all these things i dont even know what they are. TNT programs, which sound not so newb friendly lol....and i want to know if there is a basic root that i may be able to follow. root for dummies is what im looking for.
and also, if i screw this up can i revert back to the original way this thing was?
sorta nervous to order and not use it to the fullest potential but seems like without rooting its not worth a crap.
i know probably asked 100 times, but ive searched and just cant find basic rooting 101 concepts. read the faqs - nothing so straight forward that i found.
thanks in advance. if i find the support i need here which seems likely im going to order the viewsonic shortly
First, welcome!
And then...
Start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
This was the post that helped me the most. Have you rooted and installed new ROMs on Android devices before? It's not difficult, but does require that every last instruction is read. Twice. And look at posts about people "bricking" their tablets to see what they might have done wrong, or what they had to do to fix their problems. Don't worry about rooting; I've rooted a MyTouch 3g, a TMobile Vibrant and this tablet and it was the easiest by far. I'd like to say that the stock software sucks, but I can't. I purchased this tablet because I knew I would be rooting and ROMing and only had about ten minutes in the store and ten minutes at home with the original software. It wasn't horrible, but I do know that Vegan 5.1 flies and is very stable.
READ READ READ and search your face off for your problems before posting. Many people frown on oft asked questions here. I see a lot of people writing about how easy it is to search to get your answer, but I'm not a fan of the XDA search function for many reasons. So, Google is your friend. When searching Google, be sure to state your issue clearly and concisely, and in as few words as possible. Oh, but do include "XDA" in your search, or "site:forum.xda-developers.com" if you want to only search the XDA Developers forum.
Happy modding!
(1) We don't mind newbies, although it's nice if they actually respect the hard work of the people here by pressing the shift button to capitalize where appropriate. It would also be appreciated if they don't use run-on sentences.
(2) We highly recommend against modding for people like you. Just turn it on, update what viewsonic has for you, and everything will run just fine. We recommend you play with the gtab for a while before taking the plunge.
(3) You don't need to know programming to root. This thread will give you step by step instructions on how to do the essential things of modding. These instructions are so easy even a cave man could do it.
(4) That said, again, their stock rom + update should be good enough for someone like you. I have 2 gtabs. I've modded one and kept the other one as is. Trust me, it's more than sufficient for your needs.
thank u!!! im going to review that. now thats a detailed step by step which couldnt be answered easily but somehow seems doable for a newbie thanks. brings me closer to ordering.

goodintentions - I was thanking adampdx but appreciate your input as well. I read his reply and his link provided and at first glance it seemed helpful. With that said, I also appreciate you letting me know the stock VS GT is pretty good and perhaps I will leave it as is when I get it. People make it out to be like this thing is so unsable out of the box, which apparently isnt the case. I just want to be able to get to the market and download a few apps I like using on my droid pro phone, thats all. Additionally I will use capitals and try watching the run on sentences. I was just excited to post and get involved.

I was referring to the part where he refuses to use the shift key. It's a pet peeve of mine. To me, it's a sign of respect to talk properly and write properly.

I think your whole thing is condescending, including that rant you posted in the General section about the "wooters". If you wanted to be helpful you could do a write up and review about the stock ROM and make suggestions of what to do to make it better. This singling out of a group of people is rude and dangerous. You create an environment that is hostile and discourages fresh ideas. There are always kinder words to use and gentler ways to guide people.

Well, better to not use it at all than TO USE IT EVERYWHERE. Arrghgh stop shouting!!!
(btw, trying to defuse the situation with a very bad attempt at a joke)

Not to mention there be members who may not use English as a primary language and therefore may not be familiar with all of its intricacies. Respect begets respect. You get more when you offer more.
Well, here is my thought on why people are giving it such bad reviews.
(1) They compared it to the ipad right out of the box. Yes, the stock UI isn't the greatest thing, but it's usable. And after the update, it should work just fine.
(2) People were expecting an ipad when they bought this device. This is why I've been repeating over and over that this ain't no ipad.
(3) People have money coming out of their ears, so they want the bests and greatests. The slightest disadvantage and they will make it sound like the tablet exploded or something.
(4) Which brings me to my next point. People like to exaggerate.
I've always been a simple person. I like to work with what I have. I also hate Apple products with a passion. I only own one Apple product. I got my ipod (30 gig one) as a gift years ago. I've been thinking for a while to look for something that is light weight so I could drag it along for work and other activities. My laptop seems like it weighs a ton some time. That said, after I've done the appropriate moddings and installed the apps I wanted, the viewsonic gtab seems like a dream come true for me. It works incredibly fast. I didn't buy this thing to watch videos and listen to music. I have my tv and ipod for that. That said, I really think viewsonic is sitting on top of a goldmine with this device. I don't know why they haven't done more to publicize it.

Oh, please, I can tell the difference between a non-engrish speaker and someone who's just lazy. I'm a non-native english speaker. In another thread, I mentioned that I was born in a house with a dirt floor and grew up with a 4 inch black and white tv. I wasn't kidding.

Well, I apologize if what I said offended some people. But what I stated was a fact. Because of all the exaggerated reviews of how god-aweful the stock UI and screen are, average people get the wrong idea. They feel that they have to mod the device the moment they get their hands on it.
All I'm suggesting people do is give the updated stock rom a chance. Give it a few days before they decide to take the plunge. There's really no prettier way to say it.

There it is, the racist card. I was wondering when that one would come out.

Good job for picking that up, considering I was born and grew up in eastern Asia... nice going with the nitpick.
You don't have to be white to be racist or self-hating.
Ah, all of this being said, I do think this whole thing is funny and a giant waste of time. I've also been noticing that the forums seem sluggish, and I'm getting strange messages from the server from time to time about not being able to load forum pages. I think all of our babble is bogging down the servers. And with the impending onslaught of wooters, we should probably knock it off.
goodintentions, your making the xda forums look bad.

Wait, hang on. So, joking is racist? You mean you can't tell the difference between a joke and a racist comment? Is this, like, the twilight zone where noone has any common sense at all?
Look, I'm not asking for perfect composition to be published in academia here. but towrite somthin without regard to how it loks to the people your asking for help looks like you dont care for their eeffort s and your just passing buy. its also had to understand runon sentences and... suc

hahaha I was thinking the same thing. Tomorrow's XDA headline --- "Wooters bring down XDA".
I need to take my Woot-Off lights out soon, perhaps?
