Okay, now that you're all curious..
This thread will sum up quickly the last month of hard work, and who deserves the credit. Everyone who deserves serious rep will be in bold, anyone who deserves acknowledgement will be in italics.
- xmoo and his source release a leaked copy of the HTC Magic "system" folder.
- xda members start to frantically get the system folder to boot.
- I go on the forums and try to persuade everyone to listen to me and fail to get anyone to care.
- I decide to take it into my own hands and get that m.f. to run.
* build 4 is released (builds 1,2, and 3 were in house builds until i made the build somewhat usable.)
- barakinflorida suggests that i put open home as the default home application to give you guys a GUI.
* build 4.5 is released
- After 2 days I received an OTA update while testing the 4.5 build and manage to track down where HTC is releasing updates.
- Playing with it for a bit I ported the first successful cupcake build.
* build 5.0 is released
- Some days go by for fixing bugs and sorting stuff out.
- dream_kill shows me how the boot works on the device, and how to fix wifi/bluetooth (simply changing something from sapphire to trout).
- fnord, Darkrift, and I work out how to get apps to sd working on cupcake (cupcake uses vold instead of mountd)
* this is now at build 5.0.1
- an anonymous tipster gives me the system directory to another build based on the vodaphone magic.
- I port that over to the dream again
* G build is released
- Daproy starts building kernels for me with built in ext2 and other goodies, bringing easier apps to sd and other nice features.
- At this point everything is pretty much going pretty smooth, I got a new SPL, new radio, and cupcake is running pretty much on everyones phone. (this was my initial goal, give cupcake to the community )
some days go by...
- Dude compiles the latest cupcake build from source and uses Daproy's, and my, boot image and other pieces (refer to his thread for what exactly) to have a nice working source based build.
- HTC releases ADP 1.5
- I mod ADP 1.5 and release the "root" build.
* ADP1.5H (yes the H stands for haykuro, not HTC.)
- Daproy cooks up a multi-touch kernel for the ADP builds.
- JesusFreke helps me through my compiler troubles and builds the multitouch browser.
* ADP1.5Hr3
this is pretty much it guys. no need to argue.
Me and Dude are friends, he has been very understanding and asks my permission before using any of the parts of my builds.
This is a developers community, and open source supportive.
I want to take a second and make sure everyone understands none of what we have today would be possible if it wasn't for 4 main players.
xmoo releasing the HTC image.
me porting the image.
Daproy building those wonderful kernels.
JesusFreke lending a hand when needed.
I want to thank everyone mentioned above for all of the hard work!!!
Much Appreciated!!!!
Haykuro = greatness!!
Thanks for posting this Hayruko. Those of us that have been following from the beginning (I started with 4.5G) or close to it knew this timeline pretty well, but there seems to be some misconceptions out there now that 1.5 has exploded. Many might think this is a pointless thread, but I like that someone is finally standing up and saying that this isn't a competition between You, Dude, and JF, working fervently to have the best build, but a collaboration between you all and many other hardworking devs, to give us all the best homebrew ROMs available. I wish everyone would stop the "Which is better" or "Just wait until JF gets involved, he'll kill Hayruko's stuff" discussions, pick a build that suits them, and be happy. There's plenty of cupcakes to go around.
Definatly a big thanks to everyone. I don't know what drives some members to shun ANYONE, not just those above for optionally helping them. The idea of Open Source is to help spread knowledge from everyone to everyone. The greatest learning experience. Yourself and among countless others have helped evolve the use of Android and the G1, and there isn't a single person on this forum that shouldn't be grateful for the hard work and countless hours you've slaved to do this work on your own time.
I'm sorry we have some of the members we do here, but on behalf of those that don't wish to speak their names and hide in the darkness.
THANKYOU!!!!!
thank you guys for all the hard work u guys done for us ! XDA DEVELOPERS #1 FORUM ! GOGOGO !
That's actually an interesting build ........... well done guys (& girls?)
Love the work you bring to the community here!
There is no "I" in T-E-A-M!!
Great work! Really Great Work...

What a liar!! I did most of the work, haykuro just took all my credit.

People who do this get killed by GOOGLE "thugs"
On a serious note.... Thanks to all who have contributed to the advancement of android!
You guys are all amazing. Thanks for all your hard work.
Maybe you dont understand what open source means, The whole point of android was a open source projects that would remain open and free. Any TRUE open source developer knows and understands this and does the work not to get paid, But to help out a community. Yes there is a way to make money, And yes some people are making money from their apps, But that was never the point of a open source community, People contributed for the common good of the community not to get rich... But i am a capitalist and understand the all mighty dollar...

Lol @ darkrift. Agreed w/all above. Someone recently (don't remember who) brought up how roms are cooked for other HTC phones...and the fact that there are tons of customs for those w/ unique apps for each. We should be celebrating these guys with thanks for providing each something different to the open source community.
Ps. Tehseano I like your new sig.
To all devs who participated.....
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR AWESOME WORK!!!! Thank you all for your knowledge & watermelon sized cojones (each), for flashing the first releases & being fearless of the outcome, as well as moving forward at a blazing speed. I sincerely thank you for your hard work, and for making me look cool by being the first person around that I know with a working video camera on their G1!!!!
First and foremost I would to say THANK YOU to all involved.
Second; I imagine you guys are using IRC to keep in constant contact? If not I suggest we put together a IRC room for this board so all can idle, and discuss ideas.
Thank all of you guys...loving my G1 even more...personally I don't know how much I'd like my phone if not for all the mods.
Keep up the great work.
Can't wait until you guys begin compiling 100% custom builds...muahahahhahah...one can hope.
thanks so much guys! it just cant be said enought how much your work is appreciated.. i hated my g1 like a mofo, now i cant think of having any other phone!
yeah i love cyanogen he is one of the best developers ot here in my opionion i need some 2.0 or 2.0.1 now this 1.6 thing is old cyanogen i know you could do it ur a great developer please try making this for us alot of people on here will be appreciated !
DO THE POLL ABOVE
it saddens me to see all these devlopers working on the 2.0 update and just seeing cyanogen work on all these 1.6 updates i know hes doing it out of his kindness and he dosent have to do it but why stay on the oldies why not hop on the new topics
ALLL HAIL CYANOGEN!(in my opinion)
He's not doing 2.0 because camera drivers haven't been released yet, among other things.
I just have to say that this is sorta disrespectful to Cyanogen? He's doing this in his spare time and he's been doing a fantastic job so far as a major motivating force in the community. And you're trying to tell him what to do?
If you'd been paying attention to his twitter feed or to him in general you'd know that he's been working on an experimental version that will mostly likely be 2.0 based.
People like you give all users a bad name.
he has ported much of 2.0.1 too 1.6 . and its HTC's fault he hasn't went to the newer build. They are no longer providing us recovery images or drivers. Plus you can build cyanogens eclair but you need to from git, its not really production quality without drivers. Trust me Cyanogen mod get allot of credit due to quality,. he will start a new experimental rom when the drivers are out.
Also, Cyanogen if I remember right creates his builds from the Android Source code rather than porting roms from other phones. If that's the case, Google announced yesterday that 2.0 isn't being open sourced for a couple of days.
this is COMPLETLY DISRESPECTFUL TO CYANOGEN. ANY ANDROID ROOTER WITH A BRAIN KNOWS THAT CYANOGEN HASNT GONE FULL 2.0 BECAUSE OF THE CAMERA DRIVERS. THIS THREAD SHOULD BE CLOSED AND THE OP SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO FLASH CM ROMS anymore due to lack of respect and a ****ing brain.
If you are not happy - move on. Cyanogen's ROM is the only ROM I will put on my phone. I will not vote in your poll.

Thats totally incorrect. there is a 2.0 AOSP , cyanogen even has 2.0 code in his git repo. It is open source. At first it wasn't and you could only get it with a droid but now its open.
There are plenty of devs who only work on the latest stuff meaning their ROM's are never 100% stable. IMHO, sticking with one version and working on it, will lead to a more stable ROM's.
It is entirely up to cyanogen what ROMs he makes and which he doesn't. I don't think needs pressure on that front. This thread is already getting into disagreements, and is in the wrong forum.

Why are we not getting official cm7 support along with nighlies? Cm is everywhere and is the best rom. Sure would be nice to see 2.3.1 but offical support would be great.

I don't want to be a AH (<-- Since you think we are all one) here, but why are you asking the same thing over and over when you are getting the same answers?
There are only so many times you hit your head on a wall before deciding it hurts like hell and you should stop.
Unless YOU, want to step up and start creating roms, you will have to sit patiently with EVERYONE and wait for it to happen.
I have wasted enough time on this post, a mod should lock it before a flame war starts.
No answers are ever made available just a lot of complaining about asking questions. All the 'great' and 'hardworking' developers are just a few and not really at the caliper of the CM team, so xda for g tablet is no longer a reference. I'm sure there will be plenty more non-answers, that's okay because you little boys and girls continue playing in the sand box.
If you had read around Gojimi is the developer doing the official CM build (Going to merge Vegan with CM) Last I heard he had to order parts to get his development machine up and running. Please try and do some some searching and reading before starting a thread that sounds like whining. If your not happy at the pace things develop go buy an ipad and you wont have to worry about it anymore.

No the problem is you ask questions that have been asked over and over again without looking first and then you insult us by calling us AH's and little boys and girls. If XDA is not a reference for GTab anymore then march your a$$ over to cyanogen and ask for an ETA on cm7. Cyangenmod loves it when people ask for ETA's on their site. Us little boys and girls will stay in our sandbox and enjoy getting the next round of whatever rom we want including cm7. If you don't want to wait then compile your own rom. Otherwise try reading a little before posting your ignorance and maybe you might learn to do something on your own without it being spoon fed to you.
BTW....my cm7 is 2 days old....I compiled it myself from source

Believe it or not, the gTablet has WAY more official support for CM7 than other tablets. And our developers are going out of their way to do what they can. GoJimi has submitted some changes and commits for gTablet code and is waiting on process - which is a good thing.
"Cm is everywhere" - wrong. It's not. It is currently only supported on 13 devices - and doesn't just appear because someone snaps their fingers! It takes someone having a device to test, someone who has the skills or willing to learn, etc.
Maybe you should read what Cyanogen posted about essentially your questions/complaints/whines/whatever. It's found here.
And to that point - there has been some VERY helpful information on how to compile CM7 for the Harmony (gTablet)... the old adage still holds...
"Give a man a fish [CM7 build] and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish [build his own CM7 build for himself] and you feed him for a lifetime."
Go and do thou likewise....

Good thought, but I do not see him doing that as I already mentioned for him to do that, his usefulness is only here to ask questions over and over and call people names.

hey guys please dont be mad im just trying to see if this will help ur development as i want a g tablet myself currently i am in the hd2 android development forums on xda and there a guy found some honeycomb for desire hd i know honeycomb is suppose to be for tablets so i thought why not let u guys see what u could do with it here a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=960503 or u could just google hd2 android development xda its there in the nand development part of it the devs in there are working on porting it to hd2 maybe ur devs can get it working
most of the gtab devs are still working on gingerbread.
I would imagine that they won't focus on Honeycomb until an official SDK is released. Right now everything you are seeing is probably based off of the preview SDK.
Google has 30 days to release the SDK after someone releases the first product (probably the XOOM) with honeycomb on it.
trust me, i'm patiently waiting too...
Yeah, probably it is ported from the SDK preview so it is not very usefull to usbecause it is not complete and it doesnt suports our dual core.

Really? i though we were really waiting for the xoom release because the rom could be ripped out from the xoom and ported for our beloved tablet.(Xoom release this thursday)
I also though, because i read a post, that making a rom from an SDK was not very convinient and that it implied a lot of work. I could be wrong or i could have read wrong.
BTW: I think this is the wrong section to post this. XD, I could be wrong about that also.
Well, I think it's possible to port it from xoom to gtab.
Buy me one and I'll do it for you, for free! =D
Cheers
Not development. Moved to General.
It could be an SDK port, but I'll check it out. Thanks for the link.
EDIT: Yeah, this looks like an SDK port - I can tell just from the build.prop.
Folks at NotionInkHacks claim they are close to a port already:
http://notioninkhacks.com/index.php/2011/02/18/notioninkhacks-com-what-we-need-for-honey-comb/
Given what they say they are still missing, I'm not so sure, but...

When a real honeycomb rom is available i guarantee there will be a stickied topic in development. NotionInkHacks are no closer than anyone else. Some of the same people are working on their roms as the GTab roms. Everyone is still missing the same files.
yeah, probably you are right. I hope we can get those files from the Xoom in its release this Thursday.
The A-Team at Notion Ink Hacks takes pride in our secrecy and the ability to get things done. We are very close to porting Honeycomb for both the Notion Ink Adam and the Viewsonic GTab. However, we need your help to find a Tegra based Boot.img and System.img for Honeycomb.

I'm guessing that's all the xda developers here need to get Honeycomb up and running gtab also.
Don't worry about Adam versus GTAB - they are so similar that if one gets it, the other won't be far behind. And the VEGA too, we'll all benefit I'm sure.
Hi all,

How about release some source or at the very least something that will help devs speed things up with ice cream? We paid for the phone, we want everything we can get.
+1
very interesting...
sign me up Scotty
Somewhat interesting, I have registered on the new Developer site, however it seems to be geared more towards app developers, with little of use to those doing platform work (AOSP bringups including Cyanogenmod porting, kernel development, etc.)
There are no IC datasheets, and no source code for test firmwares such as UCKL2 for the Infuse (SGH-I997).
Stickied for the time being
Thanks for the news. I will check it out to see if it is a good choice for beginning devs. It might also be interesting for me to learn more specifically regarding my Samsung phone.
does it mean,
some people develop ROM or app together?
make money?
you don't make ROM for money, if you do, you don't belong in XDA

Very well said! It seem like Samsung have just discovered all the free work force to produce code that is much better than their own. Now they wanna tap into this, without giving anything of value in return.
How about dropping some spec-sheets on the HW level and some source code to their drivers, instead!?
Damnit, i'll have to learn some programming now! To the Batmobile!
+1 for "spec-sheets on the HW level and some source code to their drivers"
..especially for devices like Galaxy 3 (i5800/i5801), which (apparently), you are not going to update now on.
Sounds Cool
sounds pretty interesting, ill check out the youtube video.
Thanks for the news.
Would be nice if the video talked specifically about developing ROMs, especially AOSP-based...
useful info
merge samsung and htc rom?
hi i somewhat enjoy my samsung charge except for the predictive txt sucks i want exactly how the htc has theirs can anyone give me some info on merging these things i want to build or tweak a rom for the charge also currently downloading all the sdk stuff about to run over to samsung dev site and see if i can get into that also.
Great
great stuff, keep up the good work!
Seems like a great initiative from Samsung
