What's the BEST GPS app for i900? - General Questions and Answers

Yup, I'm still confused.
When I got my i900, (one year and a half ago) the package got a GPS app, which I installed and TRIED to use.
It wasn't, at least for me, user-friendly, so a few months ago, when I made a hard-reset , I started to find what would be the best GPS App for windows mobile 6.1.
Can you guys, point me your favorite GPS apps, form i900, please?
Thx in advance.

xda 2i

,Hi...1st time on this forum... I have just bought the new o2 xda 2i... having problems already with it.. awaiting my second replacement ..
I have sat nav maps installed but when using it,, the phone keeps locking up,, always having to soft reset... can anyone advise if this is a common problem with this model.. i want to be able to use the phone whilst using satnav..
cheers...
I also found that the drop down list for rom version and radio.. do not contain my phomes settings??
...strange, I just posted a similar problem.
Are you using TomTom Nav3? What happens with mine is that when I lose the phone signal, the whole device crashes.
tomtom prob's
Hi... yes I am... I saw your posting after I put mine on... exactly the same problem..the whole thing freezes up and has to be rebooted!! a pain!
I have just started my contract with o2 and phoned them.. they didnt recognise the problem and are sending me a new xda... again!..my third one in a month..but I'm not sure there is anything wrong with the phone/xda... I tried to switch the phone off and ran the mapping softwarare again... worked perfectly!! but no phone...It seemed that when the phone picked up its signal or a call the system locked up...dont kow how to get around it though... was hoping for some answers on this site...
cheers, Bill
This is a known problem with TomTom 3 - if you call tomtom, then will say they don't support AKU2 yet (TYPICAL!)
O2 know about as do TomTom.... i'm told that tomtom are fixing the problem.
i doubt there will be a fix for this as ttv5 is due out in the next couple of months
seems a little strange as I'm using the Xda IIi with tomtom and have not experienced any problems
What version are you using T3.07T is the latest it is the traffic version but you do not have to enable it
still locking up...
Well.... tried new xda 2i...didnt load o2 stuff from start...re loaded tomtom navigator and eventually got the gps system to work thro' com port 1..( my last posting)... chose corporate setting as recommended ..using pin shown..(0506)... went out to try it before sending back my last ppc...still locks up....freezes,,apparently when phone picks up a fresh signal..presumably from local ariel?....sooooo frustrated. .. so still have to switch to flight mode to use navigator properly...
does anyone elsa have useful suggestions to fix this problem...please :?:

WM6 - Where'd the camera app go?

Been running WM6 since it first leaked. Been running it without the AT&T crapware for a few weeks now.
This morning, the camera app seems to have disappeared.
Anyone have any ideas, short of a hard reset?
TIA.
camera application Treo 750
Well, I've the same problem, but even before upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.
From one day to the other, the link for the camper application was gone.
So it's not possible to use the device.
Anyone, who can help us?
I too have randomly lost my camera!
Just updated to 2.25 but that didn't help!

o2 Serra - GPS Fix fix available

Anyone noticed the GPS Fix fix on the o2 UK website..?
i noticed it ! installed it and the only thing it seems to visably install is quickGPS..
BUT it seems to work! Using copilot 7 i got a fix in under 10 seconds... seems to have definatly done the trick - only time will tell if this continues!
On another note ive heard a rumour from o2 that they are woking on an updated rom that should be out sometime over the next moth or so that will fix other problems with the serra including battery drain....

o0o - cool.
Could you upload the file? I don't have a Serra, but want to take a look..?
I have changed the ROM on my serra and now get a fix very quickly every time. What I have not cured is the slight lag whilst using the sat nav. Sometimes this seems OK but is a pain when going round a big roundabout and not sure what exit to take, as the device is a little behind.
Any feedback as to if this fix helps would be great.
Can anyone test speed lag? When you come to a complete stop and your speedometer reads 0, how long does it take for your GPS app to read 0?
Here's the link to o2's exe which install it on your Serra via the PC. They wanted a serial number to download it, but HTC123456789 worked fine lol.
I heard there was suppose to be a new rom from HTC to "fix" the GPS lag problem. Who knows when it will be "official" but you can bet it will show up on XDA before anywhere else

From the filename it does look like it just installed QuickGPS
It is indeed just Quick GPS, but it works.
Without this application a lock could take upto 20mins.
With quick gps, it takes less than 2 mins.
Well done to HTC / O2 for taking action against an ongoing issue.
The workarounds have been good, but im glad to see an official fix.

Is this the same quickGPS that comes with the stock ATT FUZE and most of the Fuze ROMs?

cant get it to install, it gave me a wrong rom verison error.

itsnotmeee, you have your GPS working with this and no other tweaks ?
Can someone not in the UK\not on O2 verify that it does actually work
It could just be tweaking QuickGPS to work better with O2's towers
I don´t know if I am of any help here, but my Touch Pro came with Quick GPS pre-installed and didn´t help me from experiencing the same problems many others reported about earlier: no fix, losing fix. It seeemed always to work after a fresh reeboot, then after using tomtom for e few times (probably) the logging of sattelites prevented the dwvice from getting a fix.
I did the registry tweaks which solved the problem, however TT7 is still lagging if only slightly. This neither worsened nor improved after editing the registry.
Using ROM 1.90.407.4GER
Radio 1.02.25.19
that is the situation I am in
I have once again done a hard reset to start from scratch
I think I have mangaed to get a fix 3-4 times and all when testing, I have not yet used the GPS in anger as it refuses to get a fix when I actually want to use it
I have tried TT and now iGo
google maps got me a fix once only

GPS problems

Hi all (excuse me for my bad english)
I know that many people have GPS problems with the Raphael. So do i. After having read many thread's I havn't got the sollution yet.
2 months ago I flashed my MDA Vario IV back to the original T-Mobile Rom. This action was not succesful because this ROM was very slow and anoying. The only nice thing was that TomTom did work after waiting some 2 a 4 minutes to get a Fix.
Now I flashed the Raphael back to EnergyROM Warhawk, August 11th 2009 WWE, and i must say that the performance is great! A very nice rom, stable and fast. Except for GPS fix. No navigation possible. Not with Google Maps, TomTom, and even the HTX GPS tooling (I can see 6 to 7 sattelites, but no fix possible).
Before I'm going to spend many and many of hours reading threads (again) about GPS problems, can someone tell me what to do to fix the GPS fix problem? Is it the Radio Rom? and so, whitch Radio Rom do I need to use for Use in europe (Netherlands). Do I need to go back to the T-Mobile shop and let them fix it? Are there other sollutions to fix the problem?
(PS: 1,5 year ago when I bought the Raphael the first 2 or 3 times there were no GPS problems at all, after using it for ssveral times the problem occured)
I Hope someone can help me, Please advice...
Best regards,
A. Donker

a small comment:
Previously I used the Universal for 2 years, and the MDA2 and 3 for 2 years with a external GPS device connected by bluetooth. No problems at al,.. got a fix in about 10 sec. seems like the internal GPS from Raphael is F#[email protected]?
regards..

Hello A. Donker!
Have you downloaded Quickgps data?
I suggest that you also flash a different radio (i use 1.14.25.05, this is the suggested radio for this ROM) as the RILPHONE.DLL has been changed in this ROM.
I use ENERGY ROM "Aurora" Aug 1st version with the radio above and GPS functions very well.
Another suggestion for a very quick GPS lock is the program GPSTODAY.
It's very fast at getting a gpslock (i think this prog plays very well with quickgps data, but that's speculation.) There is a today plugin (that i use, fix set to manual) and a standalone version.
What i do is first use GPSTODAY to get a very fast fix (few seconds) then run TomTom. Works very well for me.
Sometimes GPS stops working for some reason and after soft reset it works again.
Hope this also works for you!

New Cappy User

Hello Guys!
My brother gave me his Captivate, its good as new. He didnt use it when he first got it, so he gave it to me just a week ago.
I'm really new to this stuff and I'm sorry to bother if I unintentionally dig in and reply to old posts.
I got really excited.
Its just that I want to learn more on my phone.
Thanks much!
Welcome! I just handed mine down to my son and he loves it.
Very Durable
They are very durable phones. I just revived one that was soft-bricked and cast aside almost a year ago. I was able to do this w/o utilizing Windows or Odin. Linux and Heimdall worked perfectly.
I will probably use it offline as a media and navigation device. I use several open-source apps that use map files installed on the phone and therefore do not need a data connection, only a functioning GPS.
It could also serve as a back up phone if I have trouble with my SGS3, I'm still on AT&T. I could also use it or allow a family member to use it on the Straight Talk network.
I use this phone more than 3 years. It is very reliable device, phone fell down to the floor many times but works perfectly
dawgdoc how you fixed GPS? It is weak point of Cappy

I use it while doing 50 to 70 mile rides on my bicycle. I'm not moving more than 20 mph / 32 kph so it does acceptably for my purposes.
There have been a few downhills where I exceed 50 mph, but they are rare.
The design of this phone is perfect! I have been using it for more than a year. However, sometimes, the touch screen responsiveness is poor, and GPS catching is so slow that make me disappointed .
I haven't started using the Cappy while on my bike since reviving it, but that is one of my intended uses for it.
When I was on Eclair and Froyo the GPS was definitely bad. It was a bit better after the Gingerbread upgrade. After switching to CM9 and periodically updating A-GPS with GPS Status by MobiWIA from the Play Store there was some more improvement. I seem to recall also using another GPS adjuster, but I don't recall what it was. In short, it improved but was never great.
I use my old Cappy for geocaching with an external Bluetooth GPS.

I had good results with the GPS on my cappy today, but the way I used it may not suit your needs.
A few days ago I was setting at sitting at a plate glass window in a fast food place and detected a couple of satellites but never connected. It was a very rainy and overcast while I was trying to do this. This result was not greatly different than in the past. Back then I could sometimes get connected to a couple of satellites on a clear day when by a window. At the same time that I was messing with my Cappy, on my SGS3 I connected to 17 of 21 satellites in very little time. I had just updated a-GPS data on both phones, WiFi was turned off on both.
Today, I started the day with a fully charged battery on the cappy. As a matter of routine I turn off WiFi and data services unless I am using them, that held true for most of today. I was using the GPS as a bike computer, tracking time, distance, speed, and other variables while creating a track. I used the GPS for just over 3.5 hours. At the end of the day the battery was still at 56%, this is the original battery that was in the phone when I bought it in Nov 2010. Relative battery consumption for the day: Bike app - 42%, Display - 12%, Music player - 12%, phone idle - 10%, gpsd (GPS core) - 8%. Media server - 5%, and other lower consumption items.
The big caveat is that the display was off for almost all of the time the GPS was in use. I was tracking my bicycle ride, I was not using the device to navigate. The app I was using did have voice features active. It didn't take very long to connect this morning or this evening, but it was at least 30 seconds each time.
Part of the reason I resurrected this device was to use in tracking bicycle rides. I am very happy with the results of today's GPS use.
New Cappy User, I apologize if this is hi-jacking your thread.
Welcome

I just upgraded mine to JB 4.2.2 via CyanogenMod 10.1.3. I have only been on it for a few days. Also, I am only using this device as a music player and will be using it as a navigation tool. So far I am still familiarizing myself with it and have no complaints. I did see a post from one of the experienced users, dated February of this year, recommending this version of JB, either CM or one of the ROMs based on it.
