You just need to copy the contents of the folder (not the folder itself) into the windows directory (ie the 'Function*.png' files).
You will be overwriting the existing files in the windows directory, so will therefore need to use Resco Explorer, Total Commander or something similar as the standard file manager won't let you overwrite files.
For convenience I have attached a cab that will do it all for you.
(Note: These are Jockeres files, I have simply rolled them into a cab. All credit goes to Jockeres).
A soft reset is necessary after installation.
It is wise to make a copy of the original files in your windows directory in the event that you wish to return to the original B&W icons.
Hey Thanks a lot
k after d/l the cab you posted... i have to make note that the first 2.. i beleive its disable all wireless connections and in flight internet.. those were the only 2 unchanged.... but i went ahead and did them manually so no worries..
thanks
o and btw.. is there a reason as to why my "WiFi" icon is "greyed" out.. just like in the screen shot?? because now i am unable to turn my wifi on or off... is there a fix for this?? or do i need to hard reset?? cause that would suck haha...
thanks.
Thanks you , very nice !
Cheers~
PS @ jockeres I think that you shouldn`t stop here ! Just a tought !
When I tried to overwrite diniks PNG files to my windows folder, I get a message saying this png is in your ROM. overwriting it may damage your rom.
I am using a stock rom from T-MoUS. on 6.5
suggestions?
Uh oh... the cab disabled my wifi (greyed out) and as post #10 mentioned did not change the first 2 on the list. So I try the original zip file and copy files over to windows folder. I keep getting message "You do not have permission to create this item".
Well... got my wifi back somehow but when i try and transfer these png files my pc tells me "I do not have permission". I uncheck all 'read only' but it never saves.... always reverts back to 'read only'. Tried on phone as well with no luck. Oh well... looked like a nice tweak.

its the Internet Sharing Package, maybe there is a duplicate in there somewhere
ok deleted the OEMMISC folder after trying it keep givin me same thing but different file names all where in there fixin to run and see wat i get
this wat i got next
is this the first rom you re trying to cook? (legitament question)
you need to remove each file one by one for each duplicate file... untill there are no more errors.
you may get an error later consernig the building of registry. that will most likely be caused by rgu's find out what rgu is causing it by removing each rgu one by one (placing it back each time you switch to another package)
it may just be something having to do with file associations with wmp.
good luck
Make sure to remove all the OEM* folders from the SYS and Place them in the OEM Folder. This makes it much easier to weed out duplicate files in your SYS folder. As for the last screenshot. Never seen that one.

Easiest way is to put it in the tools folder. Dude have a go at HyperCore .. everything you need is included in the package and its newbie friendly. I built my 1st 19199 rom using this
i am using HyperCore i get that error with HyperCore
ok nvm i figured it out i got my nk.nbf but i dnt get my wizard til this weekend and idk wats on the ROM lol still lookin at it im such a newb
heres wat i did
From HyperCore\Panel\Extract ran 1. Dump Rom
Selected option 1 after dumping the rom to start package tool
Selected option 2 in package tool (automatic no backup)
Selected option 4 to move OEM and SYS to HyperCore\Build directory
Selected option 5 to move os.nb to HyperCore\Build\ROM directory
Update the SYS with 5.2.20273
Updated the XIP with 5.2.20273
Ran Build ROM option 1 then option 2
Nuthin in the OEM but the must have files and SVI Camera so i guess i just have a base WM 6.1?

in alot of the roms I've used, there have been 3g variations in the files, just not in the right place or named correctly for CDMA. You can grab those if you want or create your own. Name them the same as the ones you want to replace. Open the apk with winzip or whatever app you use, find the files you want to replace, then drag the new ones into the apk.
If you get a prompt about encryption, choose other, then no encryption.
After that, build a folder structure just as if the app would be in the phone.
ex: system/framework/
- place the apk inside of the framework folder, and zip it.
- next you need to sign the zip, I'd use flipz's kitchen
- install via RA (place on sd card, reboot into recovery and install)
how would i open and edit the files?

beyond that, you might want to make a request in the thread where you got the ROM.

hey man thanks!!
but, back to the long way. i found the right file, (using regaw mod, comes with the 3g icon) what do i change it to?
thank you for the zip I booted into recovery and flashed it but i still have the EV?
it's not a zip you flash. Download metamorph from the market, and install it from there.
and mountain... I just used the default 3g icons in framework-res.apk and placed them into com.htc.resources.apk with the metamorph
thankx guys I got it working
no problem
I installed MetaMorph, but at the beginning it says start basic checks to see if your phone can run, and it just hangs there and says its not responding, asks to wait or FC, please help
Could someone help me with this? Is it a regular PNG, is it a apk, or what? I have no idea at all of where to find it...
The picture I'm talking about is the Android that is on the screen when you make calls to numbers that don't have a contact photo.
Any and all help is, of course appreciated.
i would love to be able to change that, hope its possible
its a png that needs to be changed in the phone apk
I think it's in framework-res.apk
Check /system/framework/framework-res.apk, unzip it and look inside, it should be somewhere there.
@ McCurt: Where is that located?
@Genius: Ok, I'll check that now

Hey thank you. I found it, and I've edited, zipped up, and signed the apk file, but, for some reason, it won't let me install it.
Is there anyone who can take a look over this and see what I did wrong?
I'm using HTC Sync to push the file through to install it, but it's not letting me do it on the phone end.

Try this:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/Phone.apk
adb push *your apk's name* /system/app/Phone.apk
I don't know about doing it as an installable apk file. I take a flashable .zip, open it (not extract... just double click into it) browse to the apk, drag and drop the new .png, and close it back up. Then I just flash the zip using Rom Manager.
EDIT: I see Geniusdog showed you how to push it

Instructions:
1 nandoid backup
2 download the attached .rar file
3 adb devices
4 adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk framework-res.apk
(make a backup copy of this file)
5 open the apk file with winrar
6 insert the .png files that are in the attached rar file into the framework-res.apk's \res\drawable-hdpi folder
7 adb remount
8 adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
9 adb reboot
For those looking for an easier way to do this you can make a flashable file here --> http://circle.glx.nl/
Oh wow! Can you do that with the Blacy emotes?
trying!
@martijua i just tried it and let see if it worked. rebooting now!!!!
It worked great!!
@GENEius what are blacy emotes?
Update i saw the" blacky emotes" and i would say yes you can if you had all the icons the right sizes
I decided to try other icons and i found out that....
- nandroid backup is a must just in case you mess anything up!
- If it is not the right size 24 x 24 px it will show a blank space instead of an icon.
-While doing this process you will see a FC error but that's ok just adb reboot
POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR FC ERRORS!
- If you do not adb pull before you abd push.
- Receiving a text while trying this out.
Not 100% sure because both of these things happend within the same try!
-I noticed that i actually put >PNG instead of .png and that may have been the problem.
NOW IT"S WORKING WILL UPDATE WITH A IMAGE!
SINCE I AM ACTUALLY DOING A LOT FOR THIS AND WILL TRY TO DO MORE I WILL CREATE MY OWN POST!

This works, but it will remove all your accounts from the Accounts section, thus removing you contacts, and resetting your wallpaper, and probably other personal settings.
However, setting them back was easy, and re-adding the account was also easy. Got all my contacts back and so on.
Thanks martijua!

(In CM9 file is: HTC-PYRTM-ICS-4.0.1-2.3-49986-4.3.apk)
2. Mount to PC and use 7-Zip to explore .apk (dont extract or mess with anything, just explore)
3. Explore to the folder: res\drawable-hdpi\
4. make sure icons are saved and renamed accordingly:
blue: "ic_status_notify.png"
green: "status_icon_incall.png"
5. Right-click drag to Copy the two attached icon files into the folder (they will overwrite ugly ass icons)
6. Copy over original .apk in system\app (backup original to be safe)
reboot into recovery, wipe cache, (i also fixed permissions although I don't think it's necessary) then reboot and enjoy the cleaner look
Boom
UPDATE:
Sorry Everyone.... didn't realize the attached images are renamed when inserted into a thread...

Updated APK
Hello,
Thanks first to Da_Sheezy for making this, I really like the new icons.
In the spirit of making things easier and the implied approval of Da_Sheezy, I am attaching the modified apk, so people don't have to do the whole 7zip thing.
In short, here are the steps:
1. Turn off Wifi in your phone, this is just a precaution.
2. Download the attached file.
3. Save it to root directory of SD card.
4. With Root Explorer, [/B]copy original apk (for backup purposes) anywhere in the SD card, but the root directory.[/B]
5. Now, copy the downloaded file to system/app, it will ask you if you want to replace the file, say yes. You phone will freeze for a couple of seconds and reboot automatically.
6. After rebooting, go back to system/app using Root Explorer and change permissions to rw-r--r--
7. Reboot your phone one more time and you are done.
I hope that this helps some people. I am currently running CM9 RC2 and it is working like a charm.
Thanks again to the OP for this.

only had to do what you explained above.
