Figured I'd post this guide in case anyone else wanted to do the same,
Instructions:
1 nandoid backup
2 download the attached .rar file
3 adb devices
4 adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk framework-res.apk
(make a backup copy of this file)
5 open the apk file with winrar
6 insert the .png files that are in the attached rar file into the framework-res.apk's \res\drawable-hdpi folder
7 adb remount
8 adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
9 adb reboot
For those looking for an easier way to do this you can make a flashable file here --> http://circle.glx.nl/

Oh wow! Can you do that with the Blacy emotes?

trying!
@martijua i just tried it and let see if it worked. rebooting now!!!!
It worked great!!
@GENEius what are blacy emotes?
Update i saw the" blacky emotes" and i would say yes you can if you had all the icons the right sizes
I decided to try other icons and i found out that....
- nandroid backup is a must just in case you mess anything up!
- If it is not the right size 24 x 24 px it will show a blank space instead of an icon.
-While doing this process you will see a FC error but that's ok just adb reboot
POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR FC ERRORS!
- If you do not adb pull before you abd push.
- Receiving a text while trying this out.
Not 100% sure because both of these things happend within the same try!
-I noticed that i actually put >PNG instead of .png and that may have been the problem.
NOW IT"S WORKING WILL UPDATE WITH A IMAGE!
SINCE I AM ACTUALLY DOING A LOT FOR THIS AND WILL TRY TO DO MORE I WILL CREATE MY OWN POST!

Yes that could be possible provided the dimensions are correct and you name them accordingly.

+1 on that!

Is this something that should not be done on a custom rom? I tried on my phone with the latest fresh rom and all of my contact disappeared.

Google contacts? Make sure that your google account is still there...if it isnt re-add/sign back into google account.

Hm. I can use any pixel size. HTC Evo 4G seems to support most (I'm on 40x40 now). Using kawaii kitty faces from MSN :3

Anyway of doing this with APK Manager? Or NinjaMorph?

****..I wish someone could get emoji working! Seen a few threads about it but seems kinda shoddy.

well....use root explorer, navigate to system/app and extract the framework, replace the emoticons, and copy-paste the mms app back where it came from
Reboot
you're done

thank you
These are awesome thank u!

Just wanted to add my testimony.
This works, but it will remove all your accounts from the Accounts section, thus removing you contacts, and resetting your wallpaper, and probably other personal settings.
However, setting them back was easy, and re-adding the account was also easy. Got all my contacts back and so on.
Thanks martijua!

http://circle.glx.nl/ is gone. Any alternatives?
ATM I don't have time to deal with missing stuff and restoring them back
P.S. Which way of those two mentioned exactly leads to losing some data? ADB or RootExplorer way?

New Emoticon Pack
Here is a pack of Emoji Emoticons if anyone wants to try out.
Do it at your own risk, i am not responsible for any damage.

O.K., that's cool - but is it possible to "replace with nothing" or simply turn them off?
What happens if i try to put empty files with png extension or blank png files or something - I believe that won't work...?

i want Sony Ericsson c901 & k800 smiley pack on my Samsung Galaxy Ace..
how do i get that?

in alot of the roms I've used, there have been 3g variations in the files, just not in the right place or named correctly for CDMA. You can grab those if you want or create your own. Name them the same as the ones you want to replace. Open the apk with winzip or whatever app you use, find the files you want to replace, then drag the new ones into the apk.
If you get a prompt about encryption, choose other, then no encryption.
After that, build a folder structure just as if the app would be in the phone.
ex: system/framework/
- place the apk inside of the framework folder, and zip it.
- next you need to sign the zip, I'd use flipz's kitchen
- install via RA (place on sd card, reboot into recovery and install)

hey man thanks!!
but, back to the long way. i found the right file, (using regaw mod, comes with the 3g icon) what do i change it to?
thank you for the zip I booted into recovery and flashed it but i still have the EV?
it's not a zip you flash. Download metamorph from the market, and install it from there.
and mountain... I just used the default 3g icons in framework-res.apk and placed them into com.htc.resources.apk with the metamorph
thankx guys I got it working
no problem
I installed MetaMorph, but at the beginning it says start basic checks to see if your phone can run, and it just hangs there and says its not responding, asks to wait or FC, please help

How to change the default call picture?

Could someone help me with this? Is it a regular PNG, is it a apk, or what? I have no idea at all of where to find it...
The picture I'm talking about is the Android that is on the screen when you make calls to numbers that don't have a contact photo.
Any and all help is, of course appreciated.
i would love to be able to change that, hope its possible
its a png that needs to be changed in the phone apk
I think it's in framework-res.apk
Check /system/framework/framework-res.apk, unzip it and look inside, it should be somewhere there.
@ McCurt: Where is that located?
@Genius: Ok, I'll check that now
It is in apps>phone.apk

Hey thank you. I found it, and I've edited, zipped up, and signed the apk file, but, for some reason, it won't let me install it.

I'm using HTC Sync to push the file through to install it, but it's not letting me do it on the phone end.

Try this:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/Phone.apk
adb push *your apk's name* /system/app/Phone.apk
I don't know about doing it as an installable apk file. I take a flashable .zip, open it (not extract... just double click into it) browse to the apk, drag and drop the new .png, and close it back up. Then I just flash the zip using Rom Manager.
EDIT: I see Geniusdog showed you how to push it

I tried this and got a boot loop. It would load all the way to the boot sequence then FC the framework. How can i modify without breaking the signature. I am on a mac, because i know everyone uses winrar on pc.
Some had posted a file and asked for the avenge sevenfold death bat to be put on.
I had done it but the posts were lost when the site was recovered a few days ago.
I cant remember who it was, but here it is.

Instructions on editing the sprint banner can be found here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708419
To do this mod you wouldnt delete the original png...you need to replace it with the modded png file. I would make and save backup of the original on your local hard drive that way if you ever wanted to go back to stock or create a new banner with a different image you would have a copy of the non modified stock png to work with.
Thanks, I got the header and closer .png changed. Now to get rid of the pesky Sprint lettering.

when i do this procedure i get all kinds of force close errors. to the point of i have to do a nand restore. i edited a "status_bar_header_background.9.png" file from another theme. The .png image file is the same physical size, but the framework-res.apk file is now larger in size than the one i edited it from, does that have anything to do with it?

[Tutorial]: How to change the size of a .ttf font file

Ever wanted to change the base size of the system font file? I spent quite a bit of time looking into this and I found and open source program called FontForge which will modify the .ttf font file. It will run on both Win and Mac.
Here are 300+ existing flashable Font-Packs 300+ existing flashable Font-Packs which you can use and even modify the size of the .ttf file within and re-insert using 7-zip.
Font Forge Instructions:
I spent hours, trying to figure this out, but it is really rather simple...now! FontForge is very powerful and I know how to modify the font size and that is it. I am by NO MEANS an expert!
Once the the selected .ttf file is open - FontForge ALWAYS fc's on my macbook the first time I open a file. Once I relaunch, it is fine...just the nature of the beast.
1. go to: Edit>Select>SelectAll (all characters should be selected)
2. go to: Element>Tansformations>Transform
3. On the transform menu, I have chosen to increase by 20%...make sure all boxes below are checked.

}
4. Click ok
5. It should now render them 20% larger (or whatever you choose)
6. go to: File>Generate Fonts
make sure you change filename to keep the original clean and de-select validate - otherwise you will get about 200 warnings
7. Click ok...there will be a couple of warnings that appear, but I have not found any visible font issues or errors-you can ignore them - hat is it. When you close Font Forge, it will ask you about saving changes...if you do, it creates another file type, but I have never paid attention to it.
Thank you for this, been wanting to do it for a while.
Edit: Well it took forever to get everything set up to run on windows, but I finally got the Ubuntu font to not be cut off when used as Clockopia.ttf in DeskClock.apk/assets/fonts/Clockopia.ttf. I wouldn't use it for anything else other that Clockopia.ttf because I had to move the numbers -220 on the y axis after resizing them to be 20 percent smaller than normal.
The file is not to be flashed in recovery and is only in the .zip file so that I could upload it to the post.

Even with root, I do not believe this is possible. I think you can do a backup and then pull the file from the backup.

[MOD] Different Background Image Sense 3.0 Lockscreen TAKING REQ's

As mohit1234 did not create a Thread for it and I thought that maybe a few others are interested in that.. also it's actually an addition to his MOD
Also Notice that there will be a Message when there is no weather Data availible, if that happens, which is once every while, just open your weather app and let it load,see below for fix, MANY Thanks to mohit1234 who found a fix for it
But before I start, YOU WILL NEED TO GIVE UP YOUR WEATHER LOCKSCREEN
I don't use the weather lockscreen so I modded it to fit my needs, (with lots of help of mohit1234)
Can't do it on your own?? don't get it how to decompile etc? just ask in the comments and I'll be happy to make them for you!
First you need to get your IdleScreen_Weather.apk, you can get using
Code:
adb pull /system/app/IdleScreen_Weather.apk IdleScreen_Weather.apk
(this is just one example.. )
After you have done that, open the apk using the M10 Editor, which is in the M10 Tools zip (attached to post)
Once open just drag your IdleScreen_Weather.apk into the M10 Editor and wait for it to unzip your apk
As soon as it finishes go to the "m10 files" tab and select the "Decode Images" Checkbox
Then double press the first item which is Lockscreen_weather.m10
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Unfold until the Lockscreen_Weather and change the "Visible" Value on the right to 0
Then You will need to go back to the m10 tab, and decompile the second item, which is Lockscreen_weather_bg.m10 and unfold the Texture, while selecting the Texture right click on the Image and chose "Show in Explorer"
There you will find 3 Images..:
Replace all of those with the images you want, you can have three times the same or different Pictures for each part of the day
After you replaced the Image go back to the "Start" tab in the m10 Editor and hit Save, Insert the new IdleScreen_Weather.apk into the Blank_Update.zip (attached) under /system/app
BEFORE YOU FLASH, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST!! or at least backup your original IdleScreen_Weather.apk
Flash it via CWM
No Weather FIX:
First pull Idlescreen_Base.apk using:
Code:
adb pull /system/app/Idlescreen_Base.apk
then open the m10 Editor again and load the apk using drag and drop, as soon is it has loaded switch to the "m10 files" tab again and choose the "Lockscreen_common_error.m10":
then unfold until "Lockscreen_common_error" and change "Visible" (on the right) from 1 to 0
ENJOY
And don't forget to thank me
Awesome tutorial!!
Great work!!
Btw, I've got how to remove the "no weather data available" error message:-
Decompile Idlescreen_Base.apk using m10 tools.
Decompile the Lockscreen_common_error.m10
In the last one (0x0dc10c5e), you will see Lockscreen_common_error
Change it from visible=1 to visible=0
Recompile and zipalign the apk and either push it or flash it.
Enjoy!!
You can add this to your tutorial if you want.

Decompile Idlescreen_Base.apk using m10 tools.
Decompile the Lockscreen_common_error.m10
In the last one (0x0dc10c5e), you will see Lockscreen_common_error
Change it from visible=1 to visible=0
Recompile and zipalign the apk and either push it or flash it.
Enjoy!!

I'm sorry, but I'm not a dev
And to be honest with you, I have no idea how I would begin or how it would be possible create such mods,
But If I knew where to start, I sure would try!
