As per the title.
How firm are your slide mechanism? When holding the device in your right hand (fingertips along left edge of device), does the device give a little as you change your grip/pressure (for example, as if you're manipulating the volume keys?).
EDIT:
As an aside, those buttons would have been better off on the "base" (keyboard section edge) of the device rather than on the screen section, that way when pressing them they wouldnt have caused this slight give in the slide mechanism!! Jesus, HTC need to employ some of us from here!!

Good point, but a few guys do. Black with his AT&T one, few others etc. Just looking for some opinions. Personally, I think the spring could be a little more resistive.
I got mine today finally from Clove, lucky enough was in the first shipment have been setting it up for the last couple of hours and the keyboard is fine.
Slight Keyboard give
I would agree with you to a point, Syphon Filter.
When looking at the screen, it seems that the palm of my hand is catching the bottom right edge of the keyboard in its closed position and 'twisting' it a little when the volume is adjusted.
However, I've found that the volume buttons are in the right place when using them incall.
(The actual sliding mechanisim feels pretty solid to me.)
There's a little give, not so much a shift but more of a flex, definitely feels good for a sideways slider.

I guess it's 28 pounds delivery with DHL and 20 the old fashion way. At least when ordered from here in Finland. Didn't dare to accept the order yet.
Virtually no give in mine at all, feels solid.
Mine is solid and has been "thoroughly" used and handed around for wow factor for the past few days. It is well built and better, if I remember correctly, than the O2 XDA IIs (Blue Angel) for it's keyboard sturdiness mechanism.

Hi I'm based in the UK sorry
Appears firm to me, there's a little scraping noise as the keyboard is opened but not on close. Haven't been able to pin down where it's coming from yet.

I there's a little slidey thing that covers the ribbon cable. As you open/close that it moves. That's what is causing the noise your just described.
Fine. Another slight improvement from HTC's latest slider, in my opinion...
Totally agree with the comment about the volume buttons, too. Bit daft putting them somewhere where the act of pressing them means you're also opening up the keyboard...

Yeah they should have just moved then onto the bottom half of the slide!
So when you press your volume buttons (just enough to make them "press") does your slide move at all?
Mine does a tiny bit. if the spring was a little stiffer it would be spot on.
What about the power button when trying to remove the back?
I keep turning it back on when I want it to be switched off and remove the battery! Just something I will have to get used to no doubt!
After receiving my Fuze/Rap today, I also noticed a 1/32 inch twist when opening the phone. My only only other HTC slide experience is the 8125 which after 4 years has a more tight opening action.
I have to have faith in the Raph after all the faithful years with my other slide out.
US- Virginia Beach
it sounds like something comes loose when i slide my fuze open. then there is something that rattles around in it. i tried to return it but all the fuzes they had at the store made the same sound. unique?
Mine is a little loose as well - I wondered if anyone else had the same issue. I can (with very little effort) make the screen move about 2-3mm away from the keyboard. It does feel a lot more loose than the 8525 did to me.. I'm not sure how that will play out over the lifetime of the phone, but I can expect it to only get worse (hopefully not!)
Love the phone though in general.
Hi, i've seen a lot of request for a raphael speaker hardmod and also tried to find one myself, well.. As you thought, no luck.
So I decided to make one of my own, and yes, it works!
So here's what i've done (every piece makes it a bit better, so, choose the ones you wish to do, or do all of them like i did!):
1. Cut the back cover to look similiar to the original desing from htc (Picture 1)
Just throw the first metal grill (the one on the back cover) to garbage, that's what i did As the speaker has a cloth on it, you don't need those grills.
2. Make some room for sound to echo inside the back cover (Picture 2)
I did 1. and 2. with normal household scissors.
3. Prevent the sound from the front of the speaker going to the back of the speaker and thus undoing some sound. Try to insulate the back a bit (Picture 3) I did it with 2-sided 1mm thick tape and left the protecting layer on the tape (green) so it doesn't stick to the back cover.
4. Open up the phone (Help to disassembly here), lift the speaker and the.. uh.. thing on top of the speaker off from the back housing carefully (2-sided tape keeping it in place) so you wont break it. Time to throw away the second metallic speaker grill! Use scissors to carve the speaker hole bigger (see speaker in picture 3), use the tape that kept the speaker in it's place as a guide to how big to carve the hole, but don't cut any tape off, the hole becomes too big if you do that!
Video 1 : Results of the mod, you should hear the difference clearly! Too bad i didn't have a video of an original Raphael, but i think you do have one there as you're reading this.
Video 2 : Comparing the results with and without the back cover. This shows how big difference does the "sound echoing space" inside the back cover (Whatever) do!
And last side note before you begin, i will not take responsibility of ANY damage etc you manage to do to your precious phone. I've broken one already, did the mistake to grab the speaker wires and the speaker stopped working as the wires cut off.
Also, be VERY careful with this mod, you're working with the interior of the phone! Please don't do this if you don't have any experience disassembling/reassembling mobile phones.
Hope this helps you as much as it did me! It actually sound better live than on the vid, too bad my camcorder saves the vid to some ****ty format when recording to SD.
(Did i rickroll you btw? )
My apologies to the OP, I inadvertently merged this thread with my Q&A's thread. Enjoy this speaker fix.
is it just me or am i not hearing any sounds at all in those videos? (unless it uses a special type of codec..)
id love to hear the difference
Is the speaker volume really to quiet to justify a hardCORE mod that could ruin your phone?

GR8 work!
it's nice to see you can fix the very low system volume.
I was especially amazed from the echo box effect on the rear housing.
thanks!

Initially, I was not going to reply to this, but it seems to me that you may be in the process of buying a Fuze and this may be very important for you to know.
No, the system volume is not that low, and frankly speaking, it is an issue which exists in some phones, not all. And, if it's possible for you to take a look at the phone at an AT&T store, do so, and decide for yourself (take a look at more than one Fuze).
@Rottis: Would you disagree that the low volume problem does not exist on all phones?

I didn't know that the volume problem exists on some phones. I own a HTC Touch Pro by Vodafone with no issues related to the volume (other annoying issues though).
I thought that the phones should be technically similar only with different brandings.
Do they use different hardware?

No, not all phones have the problem. I had an Sony Ericsson P1i before this raphael, and its speaker was truely amazing! And you could make it even better with a softmod.
That's the main reason i did this mod, as I have gotten used to a good quality speaker.
@Giannis86: try to install FFDSHOW (google for it) and it should work. Do not use Windows Media Player though. Sorry, i don't know the codec it uses for sound, but it should be some popular one, i didn't have to install any codecs for it (Using ubuntu btw).
@ndda: Yes it is, have you ever heard it? Or if you have, have you ever compared it to, for example the P1i?
If you ask me, the mod was worth it!
@ndda: Sorry, i missed a part in your message, yeah, i think they DO use the same hardware, it wouldn't make any sense if they didn't.
Well, the sprint version is different, but that does make sense.
I've done something similar to this with my old Dell Axim x5 to fix a touch-screen issue, but I did this knowing my Axim was worth only $50. I think it would have been more helpful if you showed a picture of the speaker wire and the connector, because I had to deal with that with my Dell and it wasn't as delicate as you describe the one on the Raphael.
Here's some pics of the speaker, it's wire and connector as requested.
The pics I took from the Raphael service manual, sorry for low quality.
Pic 1 (MB Connector)
Pic 2 (Speaker connected)
Pic 3 (Speaker + wire)
Btw, as said here earlier, the service manual can be easily found from the internet

That must have been a temporary problem, as they all work perfectly fine at the moment. Please try again
If anyone knowledable on anything that pertains to my problem could help me out I would be very grateful..here's the scoop..
I have had my polaris for over a year now (out of warranty) and for the longest time I've had issues with the touch screen not responding correctly and having to re-calibrate it all the time. I finally figured out what the issue was yesterday after I hard reset the device and the screen was still messed up...I had been using a dock for this device that isn't manufactured very well -- using the dock day in day out for a few months at work actually bent the pins on the USB connector on the cruise to the point where some of them were touching each other (yikes!)
So, I gave the phone to my dad who's an engineer, he took it to work and used a microscope or whatever and some tools and got the pins back straight again..now the screen works fine! Needless to say that dock is in the garbage now. The brand was "BoxWave" -- stay away from their products, they are JUNK!
Anyways -- I still have a problem with the scroll wheel.
Spinning the wheel does not work at all -- the Up, Down, and Left buttons work when pressed, and the wheel does light up, but spinning it doesn't do anything. Also the Right button doesn't work either. The button in the middle works okay. All of the working buttons cause the light to go on.
The logical conclusion here to me anyways seems to be that the bent pins caused permanent damage to the scroll wheel...I'm very glad it didn't cause perm. damage to the screen (or anything else, so I hope!!)..but anyways -- what would be the best option for me at this point?
Call HTC and have them fix it and pay out of pocket?
About how much would they charge for something like this (ballpark)?
My dad is a very skilled electrical engineer -- he would be willing to take it apart and fix it for me at work..he's got all the tools and stuff for it and doesn't mind at all...what parts should I look into ordering?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide here.
Hi,
I have a similar problem the up, left, right and turning the wheel does not work on my polaris either and I have not damaged it whatsoever. So, i do not think your button problem is because of a possible short circuit. But, sorry to tell you but I do not have a solution to the problem.
I thought I was certain, but occaisonally my screen still dies.
Perhaps it was permanently damaged? It is much better than before though -- but no matter what I do -- the wheel spinning does nothing, and the Right key does nothing at all.
Do you have any clue what part we would need to get replaced?
I am looking to replace the screen as well due to scratches.
I believe it's called a "digitizer" (the screen part not the wheel)
No, sorry. But if you do find out let me know as well.
Thank you.
found this on ebay
Hi,
Guys I found this on eBay. It says it can repair this kind of issue. Although I do not have the time to test.
So, here it is
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Touch-Cruis...ries?hash=item19b5e3f64f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
P.S. if anyone does test this please give us your feedback. Thank you
What?
Did you post the wrong link or something?
That is a SIM card.
This thread is about the scroll wheel \ DPad.
EDIT:
Nvm, I see in the auction it says its a ribbon or something.
I dunno about this one...but it's cheap.
I still have not even gotten around to repairing my screen \ usb port though...god damn money.
If i order this ill let u know.
OK so I just purchased a new charge port and digitizer, but I have yet to see ANYONE selling a replacement scroll wheel.
Alot of people are selling the "housing" but it's missing the wheel!
Anyone know where to get a replacement metal panel and wheel only, not the entire housing?
I found a jog wheel for the shadow -- wonder if it would fit?
I have the same issue, the jog wheel doesn't work and neither the right button, but everything else works & lights up the keypad part....strange that this is 3 of us with the EXACT problem, maybe there's something we need to figure out? btw, i used to hardly use the buttons, but i used the jogwheel a lot to scroll.
I also have the BoxWave dock, however, i've found mine to be of great quality & use...reading your post made me paranoid so I checked my usb connecter over & over but thankfully everything looks very normal.
I came across this post, because I was actually looking for some user advice on replacing your own housing & wheel. I already found the entire housing & keypad on ebay that comes with the screwdriver set, and i have the manual to assemble & dissassemble.
I would rather do it myself so i wouldn't have to do without my phone while waiting for this to get repaired, but i also don't want to do it if it's very tricky with a big chance of busting phone, so i'm looking for a feel of easy-medium-hard. I've already done something similar 3 years ago to my I-Mate Jamin as well as replacing the speaker, so my technical skills are probably around mid-level.
Anyways best of luck, i'll update this post later to tell you how it went (this could be in 2 weeks time from now).

I had the same problem but on a 2 year warranty Touch Cruise. Phone was fixed and re-installed with WM 6.1
Know I face Bluetooth connection problems again and the BT hotfix is not accepted anymore.
I do have to say that the upgrade after re-installing should have been left behind.
I have the same problem... Scrol wheel not working en button to the right
anyone ever fixed this?
Hey Guys!
I've got the same problem with the wheel and the right button. So I was wondering if anyone fixed the problem?
I have no warranty anymore
I think I know what's your problem, mates.. It seems that it is essential for almost any P3650 - the cable, which is going from the jog wheel to the keyboard control unit tears apart just before (or exactly at) the copper pads on the molex thingie, that plugs into K/B unit (damage is so slight, that it barely can be seen).
I had no luck looking for the jog wheel sold seperately from housing, or at least with that plastic-chromed buttons cover. If anyone finds out that it is possible to obtain it seperately - I would greatly appreciate
Btw, same problem goes for sim holder's cable - I have replaced mine 2 times already (you can get 'em for around 15$ from ebay).
Sorry for my english - it's a bit rusty atm
Same problem here..wheel doesn't function can't find the part by itself ..
Touch Cruise jog wheel & keyboard
Exact same here - jog wheel scrolling broken & right selection does not work. Besides, my "call" key stucks time to time.
So for now I've just got both of them - jog wheel and keyboard (not the entire housing) from ebay, 15 & 7 $ respective
wheel ordered from the following ebay location :
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=260656153778&si=1E2jM09T8qOM9DzM6uzrXo5Qiqg%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT
same provider has keyboard also, for some reason it is not on eBay active items. But you can contact the seller and ask for it.
I gonna replace both in a near future, and will update about the result.
Hey guys I've been searching around and haven't been able to find a lot of info.
I broke the headset that comes with the Desire. Now I want to buy a new headset that's cabled and have the same three buttons as the standard one.
Instead of just buying the stock one again, I hope to find something wtih better sound, does anyone know where to find that?
Regards!
Broke how? Do the controls still work?
accidentially pulled one of the earbuds of, so that I now only have one earbud.
If the controls still work you could solder a standard earphone plug insted of the earbuds, so you could connect any other headphones to it. I'm actually thinking of doing this so I can use the controls both with the headphone that in my car (line in). If you can wait I will do this to mine next week, so I could tell you how it goes.

Do a google search for "diy-merge-original-headset-with-the-headphones-of-your-choice" to find a post on the modaco forums (I can't post the link). This should give you some tips - not great photos, but you can see the general idea. If you go this route it would be great if you could take some photos, especially on how the controls come apart.
Good luck! AD
not really good at solding so I'll rather buy new ones and further the cord out from the unit with the controls, so I don't think it's really difficult for me to do it.
I'm using a sony bluetooth headset with controls (MW600)
Volume sensor is fiddly (I rarely change vol so I dont mind) and it's nice and loud (louder than the stock headset). It pairs beautifully (real quick and easy) and the sound quality is good, I feel it could be slightly better though..
Receiving calls works as you would want, 1 press answer, mic works great, 1 press hang-up and autoswitch back to media.
Over all I'm happy with it
I'm starting to think the stock headset is a very bad design.
The control section with the buttons and mic should have tapered ends where the wires come out so it can't get caught on anything.
I have got mine caught on stuff twice, the second time the wire ripped the pad off the PCB which is no longer serviceable.
I've bought a new headset off ebay, this time Im going to get some black epoxy resin and make a tapered end so it cant get stuck on things.

Correct! That is where I got the idea. But insted of soldering the new headphones to the pcb of the controls I was thinking of cutting the wires of the earbuds and soldering a female connector instead. So I would not need to open the controls/cut my headphones jack and I could use any kind of headphones since swapping would be very easy. Also I would have external controls in my car using the line in.
Do you guys want / need pictures (even though it is only a simple connector)?

The earphones that come with the s6 just aren't cutting it for me. They wont stay in my ear and they feel awkward anyways.
I was thinking to try out the apple earbuds since they have 3 buttons but i'm not sure if they would work or not. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Apple's won't work. If it has 3 buttons and claims to be for the iPhone, then they won't work properly.

Thanks, i checked these out earlier and they're top on my list right now, but i'm concerned about how sharp the edges look. They look like they would hurt after being in my ear after a while. Do you experience this with em?
Also do all the functions work? Play/pause, skip/prev track, answer/end call and even long pressing the call button to start google now? Thanks

Tbh I don't know how the third button is supposed to work. I use power amp. The button stops playing the song if it is currently being played. Does not resume if I press it again though.
Volume up and down works fine (I don't have an s6 btw. Using s4)

Thanks. I'm just gonna roll the dice. Looks like xiaomi just came out with version 3 of these so i'm gonna order em. Even if the buttons don't work they seem like solid earphones for the price
The beveled edges do seem sharp at first, but I also found that they sit just right in the little cup of my ear whereas other earbuds (for example the a-Jays One that I used before) would kind of slip out. For what it's worth, I've done transcontinental and transatlantic flights with my Pistons in basically nonstop with minimal ear fatigue. I am Chinese though, so maybe they've designed it specifically for earholes like mine?
As for the button controls, all three work perfectly on my S6. Play/Pause for the center button, volume up and volume down natively.
They're probably not the single most amazing set of earbuds, and make sure to buy from the recommended retailers on the Head-Fi thread because apparently knockoffs are out there. But performance-to-price ratio has been spot on for me with respect to my Pistons.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I promise I'll see them sooner this time
