Usually a MAPI Rule Client is called from the "tmail.exe" process. But in the HD2 it is called from a service (services.exe) and not "tmail.exe" (and "tmail.exe" also exists, but does not call the mapi rule client).
This rises a problem because "tmail.exe" only creates the MAPI Rule client one time, when the "tmail.exe" process starts. But with this service in the HD2 the Mapi rule client is always created and destructed every time it has to process a message...
I'm assuming that this happens in all Sense ROMs...
Any ideas on this?
Bump bump.
No one knows?

Hello Everyone,
I have a T-Mobile USA SDA and had a problem with emails on the device.
Not sure if it is working as designed or if there was a blug, so I thought I would float it by you guys.
Setup:
Mail client on T-Mobile USA SDA
Configured manually to check pop and send smtp with my gmail account. It is set such that the message headers are downloaded first.
I connect WIFI and send/recieve
I receive a header I had sent myself for testing
I click on it and select to download the message body.
I go back to the inbox.
I do send and receive.
I receive the message body.
I read it.
I go back to the inbox.
I do send and recieve.
Result:
The message is removed without a trace. it is not put into deleted items folder, nor does it remain in the inbox folder.
Is this expected behavior? I am not allowed to store mail on my device? Is there a registry setting to change this behavior? There is no options within the application. Is there a registry setting to change wheremails are stored in general? thanks for seeing the barrage of questions!
Yes I got the same result with you. Mine is a Dopod 577w (Tornado in Taiwan). This behaviour also happens to other mail servers.
ni hao,
I had searched a bit about it and found some places explain it. The explanation sounds weak, but it looks like something we will have to live with until either gmail or ms changes their server or client software.

The problem is with the default behaviour of Gmail - it will "hide" all the
already-downloaded mail. Unfortunately, it seems not even now that the beta
phase is long over can you effectively override this behaviour - the POP3
radio buttons just don't stick in the Settings window.
Therefore, the best solution IMHO is switching to an alternative e-mail
client that doesn't remove the messages that are not available online any
more from the local view. The alternative mailer clients FlexMail and Qmail
are like so - see the row "Does it only display mail that is still on the
server? " in the comparison chart of my mailer client roundup at
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=569&more=1 . Of the two,
FlexMail offers scheduling capabilities.
PocketPC MAG:
Does it only display mail that is still on the server? : one of the most-criticized problems with Messaging is that it does not show older messages (messages that have been deleted in the meantime) in the Inbox unless you explicitly (mass-)move them to a separate folder. As can be seen, it's, in addition to Messaging, only nPOPw that deletes the messages from the local view that don't exist on the server any more. The other mailer applications don't.
I might just write a pop/smtp client software myself. Much easier to tweak it to do what I need it to do, and in my previous job I worked for an email client so I know those protocols well. I probably won't add advanced functionality or IMAP/Exchange, because I have no individual use for those.
Very Useful info.
My current solution to this issue is Outlook & ActiveSync. Just download your mail to PC and sync. Mail in mobile Outlook account will not disappear unless you delete them.
By the way, I think Gmail mobile website is also okay for mail browsing & composing.
(it is not a good experience posting reply here using Pocket IE)
I'd like to write a mail client using .NET CF just for fun if I have time. I'm not a C++ guy.
I love my Hermes but it falls seriously short in one area: I am unable to take full advantage of my Tuffmail hosted IMAP mail functionality (eg multiple folders, each with its own email address). From what I read about Chattermail on the Treo/Palm OS platform it seems to be a much better IMAP mail client than the built in WM5 Messaging application because it supports IMAP IDLE and (very important) allows you to send from multiple email addresses intuitively. I have been trying FlexMail 2007 as an alternative but find it so unreliable and such a memory hog that it is a chore just keeping it running.
Query: Has anyone figured out a way to hack the WM5 Messaging application so that it is possible to change the Sent From email address easily without having to reconfigure the account each time? What I am currently doing with FlexMail is using only one email account linked to my IMAP server but changing the From address as required by using DinarSoft TapText to type in the right Display Name and email address with a single keystroke. My preference would be to go back to WM5 Messaging if I can figure out an easy way to change the From account when I compose a message.
Thoughts?
Edit: Another acceptable workaround would be to create send-only accounts within the WM Messaging application. Unfortunately there is no Send All command (only Send and Receive), and garbage incoming mail servers results in an error message before any message is sent. Other suggestions would be welcome.
I would also like to know this. I host my own webserver, and use it with multiple emails, all of which go to the same account:
[email protected]
[email protected] etc all go to my main mailbox, which i sync through directpush to the phone.
What I want is to be able to hit "from" and change it to "[email protected]" or "[email protected]" or whatever, depending on who I am emailing.
I am also running a Hermes with WM5, and using the core outlook email client software.
Any ideas?
Hello,
I have an issue with the way I use email that I've noticed in both WM5 and now WM6 (ie. no improvement!), and was wondering if anyone else has any ideas:
I use a server-side rule to move all incoming email that matches a certain filter into a separate folder (what this actually catches all emails sent to another email address which is in turn forwarded to my Exchange box), therefore I have my normal 'Inbox' another folder called 'Inbox 2'. This works very well for my needs, and indeed ActiveSync and DirectPush all work fine on my Windows Mobile device (have the 'Inbox 2' folder setup to sync).
The only problem is email notification on Windows Mobile. When I get a new email (using DirectPush) it gets pushed to my device and up pops the New Mail prompt. However, when I get a new email that automatically gets put in the 'Inbox 2' folder (server side) even though it gets pushed to my Windows Mobile device I do not get any notification. This means I find myself manually looking in this folder a few times a day to see if there are any updates.
Anyone else have a usage pattern similar? Any ideas on how to trigger a notification?
Cheers, Simon
I also use folders to categorize email, and as far as I've noticed, I do get the new email icon when a message goes into a filtered folder. What device/ROM are you using, as that may be one part of the problem/solution.

Hi - thanks for your reply!
Setup as follows:
HTC Touch, standard out-of-box ROM (WM6)
and i-Mate JAMin, standard ROM oem updated from HTC web site (WM5)
DirectPush email via Exchange 2003 Server
Server-side rule processing (ie. defined in Outlook 2007 but then stored and actioned on the server, thus rules work pre the emails hitting the client - part of the problem I think).
Any input you could offer greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Simon
After an exensive test of one (1) email, specifically created to trip my rules, it does appear that you don't get a notification. I'm now with the OP and would love it if someone knew of a reghack or modification to settings that would make these emails trigger a notification.
I'm on a HTC Wizard with mfrazz's Xda Release 3a and the same DirectPush enabled Exchange 2003 with serverside rules.
I think this is 'by design' (ie. you actually get exactly the same functionality in Outlook 2007 client on your desktop, however I've created a custom client-side rule to trigger a notification when emails are received to my filtered folders).
I too like you would ideally be looking for a reg hack (or similar) to extend the folder(s) which the built-in notification on Windows Mobile monitors.
<fingers crossed!>
Anyone know a solution for this? I do have the same issue.
I know that you can use command lines in shortcuts to open poutlook POP3 mail accounts and have it open up a new message for that account. Then you can fill in the TO, Subject and body and send it. That syntax in the target line of the shortcut file looks like this (assuming the POP3 account is called "TestAccount")
tmail.exe -service "TestAccount" -to ""
What I cannot figure out is if the same is possible for the "Outlook E-mail" account in poutlook, in other words, the one that syncs up with my Exchange server. I can't figure out what to put as the mailbox name in quotes in order for it to open up in that account and not in one of my POP3 accounts.
Any ideas?
20#"\Windows\tmail.exe"-service "ActiveSync" -to "" -body ""
Thank you very much!
HTC Fuze with EnergyROM 24.Dec.2009 WWE WM6.5 build 21885.5.0.95.
After upgrading from the stock AT&T WM6.1 ROM to a stable EnergyROM, I configured my corporate Exchange email account. Sync works fine. But when creating a new message in Outlook Mobile, the "from" address is incorrect. My address should be [email protected]. Instead, it shows [email protected]. See screenshot (oldcompany name redacted). I examined my Active Directory record through Outlook 2007 GAL. It includes eight SMTP addresses that have been used over the past 15 years, through an acquisition and eventual migration from Notes. This d244d55 address is not the first listed, but is coincidentally the first alphabetically.
I sent a test message to various other email accounts and the "from" shows properly, so the Exchange server must be substituting my correct email address. But this is annoying and I would like to fix it. I cannot find any way to configure the "from" address for my Exchange connection configured through ActiveSync. I searched the registry and the only place dd244d55 appears follows. I deleted the dd244d55 address from this value, soft-reset, but still no joy. I did confirm that dd244d55 is no longer in the registry.
Key: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Partners\<GUID>
Value: Email Address
Data: [list of SMTP addresses separated by semicolons]
How do I fix this? Consider directing me to a better forum since this is certainly not Raphael specific. Unfortunately searching for resolution is handicapped because the word "from" is overused. Thanks for your assistance.
Assuming you deleted and recreated the Activesync relationship and wiped the phone:
This could be a time-consuming war that ends up to be impossibile to fix. Don't let it turn into a crusade! Just from an "eff it" standpoint, which I usually take:
Kill ALL the garbage addresses. Everything that isn't necessary.
What's the worst that can happen? I obviously don't know who you are and what possible types of emails could be sent to any of your 15 years worth of addresses. If no one is going to die, the simplest solution is often the correct and best solution. I'm sure you spent enough time on this already.
Kill ALL the garbage addresses.

I assume you mean to delete the addresses from my Active Directory entry and then delete/recreate the ActiveSync partnership with Exchange. I was thinking along the same lines. I don't need any of the extra addresses but they might be there to support non-repudiation of historical approval records in corporate information systems. I don't have permissions to do modify AD myself but I will ask our IT support folks to do so.
I am sure this problem has been encountered before but don't know where to seek assistance. Having multiple SMTP addresses in an AD record is not unusual. I bet there is an easy way to specify the correct address for the ActiveSync partnership "from" email.
Success. My "from" address is now correct when creating new emails. My corporate IT support deleted a bunch of SMTP addresses from my AD entry. I can't see exactly which ones are left because AD changes take a while to propagate through to the cached Outlook address book. I deleted/recreated the ActiveSync partnership and the "from" email shows correctly now.
One other difference: The first time I specified my email address and password and let WM autoconfigure the connection. It ended up using my email address as the username and left the domain blank. This time I disabled autoconfiguration and manually specified the server name and my credentials (username/domain). This probably had nothing to do with the problem because both formats are valid AD credentials.
