[APP] Microsoft MS reader working on HD2 - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hi everybody I didn't find anything about this in other threads, so I post here the files necessary for a perfect visualization of MSreader on HD2.
install via active sync (on SD card) the file "MSreader PPC ITA.exe", it will create a "windows" folder on the card, open that folder (I don't remember if it contains or not another "MSreader" folder or only files) and copy away all the files in a folder of your choice
uninstall MSreader PPC ITA and install via active sync (on device or SD as you prefer) the file "MSreader WM 6.1.exe", it will create his own folder in your program folder, then soft reset.
go to the folder where you previously saved first installation files and copy everything in your new MSreader program folder and accept overwriting, then soft reset
You should have the reader working perfectly, in italian language and 4 font size option instead of 3.
If you want it in another language (not verified)
download the 2.4.1 version from microsoft website , install it instead of PPC ITA version and follow other steps.
It should be working in the chosen language, I'm not shure cause the PPC ITA version I attached is an older version I think..
The only bug I found is that installing the reader is disabled the pdf files preview in documents tab (tested only on ROM Artemis 9) ..so give a try and report.

EDIT: for those who use BOOKLIB to manage the library and want to open msreader directly from it I think it' necessary to install firstly the WM version of MSr on device and then simply overwrite using the PPC version. Otherwise when you try to open a .lit book via booklib it won't be able to find MSreader..

works also in landscape using an app that makes rotate the screen.
PLToggle seems the best cause works on request, autorotation is not suggested due to the long loading time of the reader.
I used AEButton plus, unfortunately has some issues with button mapping on WM 6.5.x (with WM6.5 ROM I mapped the volume buttons for MSreader page up-down -EDIT: volume button issue seems solved, see here ) but rotation option works and I mapped the start and back button for page up-down . If You make a search into this forum there are other light apps for screen rotation that can be used.
You need some patience when rotate MSreader, it needs half a minute for big files before you can manage them, because the app is reloading all the .ebo annotation file with the landscape format (same when you go back to portrait).

If someone wants to use another reader such as Freda but has a massive .lit ebook collection and doesn't want to lose it and wants something easier and faster than Calibre conversion to epub format software, there's Convert LIT a very good an fast conversion software that starting from a .lit file creates a html file with related images in a single folder named as the ebook, all you have to do is copy that folder in Freda library.
When you open Freda library you have to allow the search in subfolders and yuo'll find your new html books.. open one and you'll have it with images and hypertextual links!

thanks! nice job
EDIT:
any other bug found/solved?

it works, it is a PC installer file:
-connect your hd2 to PC using active sync
-run MSreader PPC ITA.exe on your desktop
-follow instructions on desktop and device screen

Thank you for your effort and sharing ..
I hope you can excuse me If I ask a newbie question :
why I should do all those steps ? is the application not free?

No, it's free, but microsoft abandoned this project ,so there is not a version for latest windows mobile.
installing only the WM 6.1 version on new devices gives fonts and visualization issues.
Installing as described in post #1 avoid that issues, it results a sort of improved merged version, without leaving installation files in windows folder.

Thoughts
Detailed info
just when i thought this app would be useful to install all of my favorite apps after a clean flash i was wrong.. or well it might do that, but the unlimited trial only allows for 1 cab to be placed in there, and what good is that when i can just store that 1 cab on my storage card... would be great if the trial would let you do more than 1 cab.. maybe something like 5-10.. and at a price of 45euro or $60usd its not worth it just to see if it may or may not work with multiple cabs..
"AirWizard 1.1 has been released with some important fixes and improvments:
Fixed Single/Multiple cabinet selection from Browse dialog
Fixed Cabinet header parsing - eg. NET CF 2 2003 has a different info ( CE4+)
Fixed Shortcut Creation/Cabinet file name, now the paths can contain spaces in their names
Visual update when cabinet file is unpacked to notify the user on the status
User cannot exit the installer when/while cabinet files are unpacked/installed by pressing "Finish" menu button

LAN shares, HTC Network Plugin

Hey everyone!
I'm looking for a plugin which allowes me to access LAN shares from my Tornado.
I found the so called "HTC Network plugin", which should enable this feature, but it doesn't work. They say it adds an LAN-Connection option to the connection-settings, but this is not the case.
So basicly I want to access my music folder on my pc to play the music on my tornado. Does anyone have an idea?
Is this possible on a smartphone?
Not possible at all
I did it. It is necessary to throw simply libraries from pda, and the networkplugin will work. Here they (for wm6): *http://kmz.ho.com.ua/Netbios.zip

Can You post some quick guide how to do this and what possibilities it gives.
Is it work on USB connection?
I don't know. I tested on wifi connection....
mmh, doesn't work for me. I copied your files in the windows-directory and re-installed the HTC Network Plugin, but there still isn't a setting for lan shares.
it`s working
awesome stuff.. it works perfectly! next: get a wifi packet sniffer to work on the tornado and i won`t be considering upgrading to a wizard
Well, can anyone tell me which cab-version of the plugin you are using? I can't get it to work.

I copied these dlls to my Windows folder in my Qtek 8310 and installed JUVS HTC Network Plugin mui 0409, but I don't know how to interface with my Windows Network folder shares. I connected to my AP via WiFi and tried using Resco File Explorer to find the shares, but I don't see anything. How exactly am I suppose to install this components and where will I see the interface to the folder shares in my network.
Thanks
network browser
first you need to map the contact or message button as "fake cursor" , then you must find the file networkplugin.exe in your windows folder and run it. select new and click browse. then use the button mapped as fake cursor to tap the network neighbourhood and browse to the share you want to map. you will be prompted to enter user and password. if you don`t have any just click ok.
(tip: to close the cursor press the home button and then restart networkplugin.exe and you can use the keypad normally). if the share is added successfully you can browse to the "network" folder in the device filesystem.

Thanks... That Worked!!!... The only difference is that I kept the NETUI.DLL that came with NiTroGen's WM6 Platinum SP1 build in the Windows folder as it had a latter date. I just copied the REDIR.DLL and NETBIOS.DLL to the Windows folder. I also put a shortcut to the networkplugin.exe in my Start Menu.
Thanks again
my smartphone still can't work
I can browse all computers working on the lan.
But I can't browse share dir on each computer.
Double-click Computer name but lack of response.

iGo8 Custom Startup and Background

I wanted to share this information. I recently was able to change the loading screen and add backgrounds to iGo8(I know I'm not the first one). Thought I would share what I did in case anyone else is interested. Also, have attached a screenshot of the startup screen I used(there is also a matching background to tie it all in). Also attatched is my "branding.zip" file and zip with 240x320 background.bmp/loading.bmp. If you like what I did you can just use mine. This is for 240x320 and 320x240 qvga sizes only(I deleted all other files). Follow link for "data.zip".
Here is what I did:
1.) I did a google image search and found a picture that I liked. Downloaded and saved as a bitmap file
2.) Resized the picture to 240x320. This would depend on your screen size.
3.) Made a copy and named it "loading.bmp"
a.)Optionally, I used photo software to add the iGo logo ( I used pocket artist)
4.) Copied "data.zip" and "branding.zip" to my computer (Keep a backup copy)
5.) Using winRAR, I opened "branding.zip" and found \ui_igo8\240x320 and added "loading.bmp" to the archive overwriting the original "loading.bmp"
6.) Using winRAR again, opened "data.zip" and found \ui_igo8\240x320\background
a.)added my resized bitmap image to this folder(named mine "blueflames.bmp")
b.)while I was at it, I got rid of everything I didn't need such as backgrounds and other files for screen sizes I did not need. Went from 12mb to 5mb(saving all the room I can)
c.)have read that this can be done alternately by adding folders "ui_igo8\240x320\background" to the "igo8" folder on sd card. This did not work for me.
7.) Copied "data.zip" and "branding.zip" back to sd card overwriting the originals(make sure to keep copies just in case, something I forgot to do)
8.) Abracadabra when you start iGo8 you get a fresh new loading screen and background

I searched for a place to post this but did not find what I was looking for. If I'm in the wrong place let me know, move it, remove it, or just shoot me.
As I said before, I know I'm not the first to figure this out. And I'm in no means a genius or programmer. I was so happy the first time I started iGo8 up and saw my own screens that I had to share with somebody. Let me know if I can help with anything(to the best of my ability). Let me know if I missed something.
NOW WITH LANDSCAPE:Slight change on landscape as could not resize without distortion. Turned original background and splash.

More iGo info
Just something else I have found. My iGo was taking forever to load, so I removed some of the custom poi's that I had as well as everything else I did not need(other states, poi's from other states) and stored them on my computer. When I need them, I can put them back.
Since doing this, it now loads just as fast as TomTom7(if not faster). Just in case anyone is interested.
Matching Splash for Opera Mobile
Here's a matching splash screen for opera mobile for anyone that likes the blue flames and wants everything to look alike. Unzip "opera_splash.zip" into \program files\opera9 overwriting the existing files. Make a copy of existing files first in case you want to revert back to original without reinstalling.

Loading.bmp fails to load, Igo8 aborts
Hi,
Using the information in this thread, I tried to replace the bitmap used during loading and as background. My bitmap works very well as background, but during loading I get an load error message.
Looking at the original loading bitmap, I found that the file is 2 bytes longer than it normally should be. 320 * 240 * 3 + 54 ( bitmapfileheader and bitmap informationheader) = 230454, whereas the actual file size = 230456.
A program like Windows Viewer displays the original file correctly, as it does with my own files.
Also the blueflames bitmap fails to load.
I use IGO8 8.0.035389.
Does somebody have an idea what is going wrong?
Harry
May need update
I am using an updated version 8.0.0.49545 which may explain the difference. Do you have access to the content manager which allows you to get updates? There was a bug fix in the september release that could help. Also, what device are you using? If you dont have access for updates, PMme and I can direct you to an updated version. Make sure your image is the correct size, make sure you convert to bitmap and not just change name. I think I just used MSPaint to open my jpeg and saved it as a bmp. I'll try to do what I can to help. Ijust assumed since it worked great on my device it would be universal. You didnt change anything else in branding.zip?
Loading bitmap problem
Hi,
My PDA is a MIO P350. My bitmap is really a Windows bitmap. Note, that also blueflames didn't load. No other changes were made to Branding.zip. Please send me the update.
Harry
in sys.txt you can add
[loading]
show_statustext=1
show_progressbar=1
progressbar_x=85
progressbar_y=120
loading_bmp="loading.jpg"
make sure a loading.jpg that fits your screen size is placed in
data.zip\ui_igo8\320_240 further since show_progressbar is enabled ( =1)
a loading_progress_bar.bmp is needed in data.zip\ui_igo8\320_240
This worked with igo 8.3xx
"Failed to open file"?
Dear mates,
When I switched to iGO 8.3.4, copying the Data, BRANDING and SYS files to my SD card, I got the error message on start: "Failed to open file: igo\800_480\loading.bmp. Exiting application."
Still when I am using the new files except the data.zip(using my old data.zip - from iGO 8.3.2 I had) the program is OK. But when I try to use the new data.zip - the program crashes with the error above ?
Please help !
Best Regards
Hi jmckeejr, hi mates,
I tried to change the loading picture too with a car logo but it did not succeed. I downloaded your branding file and it works flawlessly, however, I already use iGO 8.3.4.117940.
Then I tried to do this: opened the branding.zip, changed the loading.bmp to mine and compressed it again, copied it back to the device, but it doesn't recognize the file, loads with a grey road-like image. Could somebody help me to get a car logo to work? I made these steps with the original branding file and with yours too.
Thx
as
start screen for Igo 8.3.4
For Igo 8.3.4 it doesn't work that way, changing the splash screen for 240x320 portrait resolution actually goes like this:
1. leave data.zip and branding.zip as they are and just create a new folder in the igo root folder and name it "ui_igo8" (usually it doesn't exist)
2. create a new subfolder in the new created folder "ui_igo8" and name it "240_320"
3. Create a loading.jpg file with 240x320 resolution - any photo editor is good, and put it in the SD/Igo/ui_igo8/240_320
4. create a loadingprogressbar.jpg that looks like a ribbon with a resolution of 120x10 (or search one on google)
5. write in your sys.txt file found on the Igo root folder the following lines:
[loading]
show_statustext=0
show_progressbar=1
progressbar_x= 130
progressbar_y=230
loading_bmp="loading.jpg"
loading_progressbar="loadingprogressbar.jpg"
6. turn on IGO and after splash screen is shown you will figure out what the loading bar position is, if needed just adjust its location changing the progressbar_x and progressbar_y values in sys.txt
Here is an archive http: // tinyurl.com / 3ejnedt with needed folders and files, just copy it on your Igo root folder and extract everything there.
Hope it helps!
I didn't figure out how changing the exit splash screen (which is the same with the original start splash screen) works, if somebody knows lets hear it!

Wikipedia on Windows Mobile

It seems that the IPhone has surpassed WM on one of my favourite functions in a smartphone; offline Wikipedia browsing.
There used to be a good tool: Tomeraider, which originally allowed for a searchable database including images. However since the size of Wikipedia has grown above 4GB, the format can no longer support all articles and now the latest db is without images and roughly a year old out of date.
I have tried out Mobipocket, which can handle larger files, albeit split into smaller chunks but am disappointed with the app on touch phones and the fact it does not support images.
The IPhone has the wiki2touch app which appears to be a webserver that connects to a local database that can be downloaded from wikimedia and is updated regularly, it looks to be exactly what one would want.
My question is this; would it be possible to run something similar on Windows Mobile with a ppc equivalent of SQLite and Apache?
You can use MDict with this Sep 2008 database.
Or use Pocket Wikipedia, which has an included (and not up-to-date) database.

Wikipedia for http://www.octopus-studio.com/product.en.htm, a freeware dictionary viewer for Windows Mobile, containing more than 2.390,000 articles. English version.
To install the dictionary on your Windows Mobile:
* Install mDict v3.0 or later.
* Copy the mdx file to your SD card.
* Start up mDict.
* Select "Search All" in the "Library" menu.
* You should now be able to select the wikipedia.
This is an extended version of the English Wikipedia, with almost every article in its complete length.
The mdx file is inside a hjsplit archive. Go to hjsplit.en.softonic.com to download a (100% free) program to unpack the archive.

what are the pros of using offline wikipedia compared to en.m.wikipedia.org?

first of all as it is offline you don't have to pay data download fee. but more importantly while reading something you may come across a concept or a name even a brand name , you select the wiki version and walla, you understand what that particular word is. i use mobireader for news feed, last week while reading an article i came across with the term "bubble car".i found its meaning in offline wiki. the other day, i was reading the new regulation about swimming suit for competition i could easily reach the info about speedo, micheal pelps using wiki. the easy and user friendly dictionary program is another story. and offcourse all of them freeware.

Notice:If you set BitPool too high,it may not work for Magician because there is no enough bandwidth with Bluetooth.
I found that Magician have a low-bandwidth Bluetooth...
I must set low BitPool profile and 22050 to 44100 Hz,or it will stuck for a while,and again...
And it did not support "Suspend Delay"(I don't know what it is,but this parameter included in BTA2DP.dll),so I removed this setting.
Thank you very much for this app, it makes it easier to configure the Magician!

Downloaded..
So, this means we must first uninstall the speakerphone patch from Searcher12 (if we're already installed it)?
BTW, I think the 2 s/w released before (splash screen changer & sms back img) would be nice if you merge them into this one...
You can use original speakerphone_patch still,they have the same parameters,just the file size,newer is 4KB only,original is 7KB.
If you want the newer one,delete \Windows\Speakerphone_patch.exe and run this app again,a newer Speakerphone_patch.exe will be extracted.
splash screen and sms background image will take bigger file size and they are dependent on images,so I removed them...
Ok, I got it.. Thanks...
if you could add an option to set a ringtone from the card that would be great but i'm not sure if the card is active when device is in stand by. Anyway I could add a ringtone to the ringtones list in settings/sound and notification but only from \windows directory. For some reason it didn't work from card.
to set a ringtone I did the folowing:
HKCU/ControlPanel/Sounds/ringtones here I added the new file name to the list as Ring-MyRing .wma
This makes it appear in the ringtones list in settings\sounds and notifications
HKCU/ControlPanel/Sounds/RingTone0
changed SavedSound and Sound entries with the file's path \Windows\Ring-MyRing .wma
HKCU/ControlPanel/Sounds/RingTone2
changed Sound entry with the file's name Ring-MyRing .wma
I think RingTone2 contains the name of the file that is called from the list and RingTone0 contains the full path of that file
modifying HKCU/ControlPanel/SoundCategories/Ring/Directory to Storage Card didn't have any effect for me. When trying to select the file from the list in setting it says that the file is corrupted.
So it only works from main memory for now. Any solutions ?
I asked Cotulla for Power Management of SDCard today,unfortunately,SDCard will be removed when device run into Suspend mode,so system will resume to default RingTone.....
The working RingCategory is RingTone0,you can create a folder name "My Documents" in Storage Card,system will detect sound files there,but it should not work after Suspend as my following reason...

It works, even after long suspend.. Without using 3rd party s/w or drivers or registry tweaks or anything else..
I don't know why, don't ask me...
As you said, for adding custom ringtones just create "my documents" folder on storage card, and you can put all ringtones (mp3, wav, wma) there..
Except for phone calls, inside "my document" folder, create a new folder named "My Ringtones" and you can put ringtones for phone calls in there..
Note that for alarms tone, you must put it inside "windows" folder (\my device\windows), and it must be .WAV files only!
Not just ringtone, but this apps also works well after suspend, I installed almost all of my apps in storage card (you know why..)
Wooh,so strange...I've tried them before but it often resume to default ringtone...
Alarms support wav files only...
Yes it's strange...
Not just mine, but one of my friends also have a magician running Cotulla's WWE-03, and we're both doesn't have that problems...
I'm running WWE_O3 also...
Keep File Explorer opening,push power button to make your device run into Suspend for 5 seconds,push it on,what will you see?"Storage Card" in original position or dropped to the bottom?
card is disabled for me in suspend mode
Hi Xiaojin,

Xiaojin, after i download and try to install, it says "Installation was unsuccessful" on Magician! So I tried to open on system using zip and it could not (I could open chs one not wwe one!)!
Try this EXE version.
Copy it to "\Windows" and run,it will create a shortcut to ControlPanel.
