[Q] A Galaxy S Hardware Question

Hi Guys,
Heard a lot about this forum but this question may not belong here...
Anyways,
I dropped a knife on the screen of my i9000. No glass breakage but it instantly lost half the screen, the bottom half. Now if pressed on the screen firmly the bottom half would flash up a weird colour then go back to black. over the next 2-3 days I lost more and more of my screen until I had nothing, total black with no hope of resurrection by pressing on it.
Ok so I replaced the screen today. Being more specific I replaced the whole screen assembly (LCD, digitizer, all capacitive buttions, etc. basicly everything. Things I didn't replace were the main motherboard, battery, backcover ha ha).
This makes me think the fault is in the main motherboard, as if something got shook up but my question is where do I start to look?
I can tell that the LCD isn't getting signal but where would I look to remedy that problem?
Thanks in advance,
A very out of pocket _toiletduck_

[Q] Dropped my Captivate

I was at work tonight and I dropped my captivate. The phone is still on (also turned it on and off fine) but it looks like in the top right corner of the screen it is cracked all the way on the INSIDE, not the gorilla glass. It appears that I no longer have a capacitive screen except in that small area now. (about the width of my finger) Any way to fix this or should I just get a new phone? (it is a referb so no warrenty or anything)

First off, sorry to hear about the drop, however, you've posted this in both General (where no questions belong) and Q&A. Please refer to your post in Q&A.

Cracked glass

My wife has a Huawei M860 as do I. Anywho, hers has a shattered glass screen. Phone still works. But please know this shattered screen causes such an irritation that it cant be healthy.
Theres no sign of a replacment anytime soon. Pieces of glass are missing now. Question is
Can I remove the glass chunk by chunk and let her just use it without glass till I get a newer phone? Will removing the glass disable whats left of her touch action?
First time posting. Srry if im in the wrong area or breaking rules. Been searching online for hours to no avail.

It is possible, but very model-dependent and I'm unsure for your device.
Modern touch phones use a sheet of glass and a thin 'digitiser' layer underneath to register the electrical capacitance of your touches. In some phones these are two separate entities, however in a lot of phones they are 'bonded' together.
Chances are if you're already missing glass pieces, they aren't bonded. I would recommend leaving as much glass in place as you can and possibly sealing the front with clear 'contact' (book cover) or a screen protector, as it affords the digitiser some protection. You don't want to have to replace both if you don't need to.
Good luck!
Just leave it be .You could break your display

Thank you for your replies. If I can remove the glass I am not worried about putting the digitizer in danger. Its an old fone that will be replaced all together. I relize if I remove the glass it will be more exsposed.
Thats not the concern. Just wondering if without the glass will it still reconize touch? Not worried about hurting the sensitive display either. I got confidents in my hamd skills. Do things like this all my life. I can be carefull

Like I said above, you'll need to research whether the glass and digitiser are fused, or separate entities. If they're separate, you should be fine.

Like juzz suggested earlier, you should get a screen protector to cover the glass - especially since you mentioned that chunks were missing. There are probably sharp exposed edges that themselves will continue to scratch her.
Thank you all for the advise. Im off to research. Again thxs

[Q] Glass Broken

The touch screen glass of my Nexus 5 is broken but the screen is working absolutely fine. I need to change the glass of the phone but customer care charges me Rs. 8000 (INR) for replacing the whole LCD DIsplay. Should I go buy a duplicate glass from ebay for approx Rs 1500?
Anyone had experience of how the quality of duplicate glass is would be of great help. Thanks a lot.
Get LG to do it. Replacing the touch screen is not simple like replacing the whole screen as it's bonded to it. You are not likely to get oem glass
The screen and glass are connected in one piece isnt it?
@ OP I have already moved the same thread from general to Q&A. Please do not create duplicate threads in future and use the original thread here.

[Completed] [Q] S4 screen 'loose' screen assembly

When replacing my S4's lcd I also decided to replace the frame/chassis. I used double sidded 3mm tape around the edges so the glass would stick to the frame/chassis, though some of the tape has lost it's stickyness. The glass has somewhat lifted up (I can get my nail underneath and lift the glass, i'm unsure if the lcd lifts up too), the areas of which have lost their stick is around the top corners (mainly around where the LED is but i've noticed it along the whole top of the phone). I've tried lifting the glass slightly and putting some more tape underneath it which has not work, also, i've tried heating it up with a heat gun which also did not. I am contemplating using hot glue but a the time being I am still undecided if it will be effective.
Has anyone else face a problem similar to mine? If so how do you correct it? Does anyone have a solution or any tips? (please note that this device is not under warranty of any sort)
Hi, thank you for using XDA assist. The best place to ask is in your device specific forum. I'm not sure what version of the S4 you have so try one of these, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att or, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4
