[Q] Dropped my Captivate - Captivate General

I was at work tonight and I dropped my captivate. The phone is still on (also turned it on and off fine) but it looks like in the top right corner of the screen it is cracked all the way on the INSIDE, not the gorilla glass. It appears that I no longer have a capacitive screen except in that small area now. (about the width of my finger) Any way to fix this or should I just get a new phone? (it is a referb so no warrenty or anything)

First off, sorry to hear about the drop, however, you've posted this in both General (where no questions belong) and Q&A. Please refer to your post in Q&A.

How are your phones holding up?

I've noticed that the slider functionality of my phone, possibly due to user-abuse, is starting to slide off the rails*. I've also noticed that the top is beginning to extend over the bottom... on the side with the PTT button. Is this my fault, or is everyone else having the same problem.
*To define: hold the phone in your hand, and place your thumb on the bottom-left corner of the top "slider-part", (could someone give me the word that should be used in place of "slider-part") push toward the right... Does the bottom, of the top, of your phone slide out by itself? Mine only moves about an 1/8th of an inch, but I'm curious if everyone shares this problem as well.
My phone slides out about the same 1/8 as yours, but i think it was like that even when it was brand new.
Yes it does happen to me, nothing perfect...it's just the sliding mechanism moving on one side and not the other..
I have the same movement on mine. My fuze is 7 weeks old, I use the sliding mechanism, on average, 3 times a day.
When I received my phone I double checked the sliding mechanism - the same movement was present when new. Based on other posts, this appears to be normal.
Other than that, my fuze is doing well. I purchased the ATT store cover (rubberized cover in two pieces) which is really good (although expensive ). I do find that the rubberized cover makes it difficult to put into my trouser pocket, thus I tend to carry it everywhere I go...
I've had that issue since I got it in Nov last year. Other than that, it's working and looking perfectly well. I should also note that I have an invisible shield that's working wonders for the phone. With it installed, I get a better grip on the phone (doesn't feel like I'm going to drop it), obviously no scratches, and fingerprint issues are far less severe.
My first phone slid off the rails too so I called AT&T and they sent me a reconditioned one. Now the slider on the new one actually pulls away from the main body. So I called AT&T again and they are sending me a another phone. Fingers crossed......
The play in the rails seems normal... I do about 4,500 texts a month... so slide open, slide closed over and over again... still holding strong had the Touch Pro since November of 08
My first kaiser (tilt) had that overhang when closed. It bothered me a lot. AT&T wouldn't exchange it, so I superglued a thin, tiny square of vinyl to the bumper at the end of the track to act like a shim, leaving the top and bottom flush when closed. The next two warranty exchanges I got (for other issues) had no such issue, and thankfully, neither does my fuze.
im uber careful with my phone but its so fragile its just breaking apart. the hard keys are coming up, the slider is now over like everyone else, there are small scratches everywhere, and kinda weird is the camera glass is broken around the edges.
My phone is holding up well with the rubberized cover
Holding up well to date, but seldom use the keyboard as have grown accustomed to using FITALY on the Fuze.
Also am using Capdase BiFold case for general protection + top shell of Innocase to help ward off the laminate separation that some users have complained of. (Also helps keep things from resting on the screen.)
May be Overkill, but hope to have this unit for some time....

[Q] Screen appears loose in the top left corner of Nexus S

Hi,
I've had my Nexus S for less than 4 weeks, and I just noticed today that the top right corner of the screen seems to have some give when you press on it. It apparently just started happening now... Anyone else have this issue with their phone? I'm wondering if I should just run to Best Buy and have them exchange the phone for me before it's too late...
Thanks,
Mike
I don't have that problem with mine but in your case looks like you might have to take that trip to best buy
Sent from my Nexus S
if you look at it, does the surface of the top corner part raised a bit compared to the other corners or sides?
I ask because I tried to press gently on the corners and also the sides and there's a very slight give. It maybe because of the type of screen (plastic?) causing the give when pressed?
yeah it appears to be ever so slighlty raised, and has a very slight give...
any word on if this is normal? I have the same issue with the bottom capacitive side....it is noticeably lose sometimes, I can push it then it becomes tight...then the capacitive buttons wont work unless I turn off the screen then turn it back on.
My 2 week old Nexus S just started doing this. It feels like the screen is attached with glue and the screen has separated from the frame. I can press on it and it sticks for a moment, but if press a minute later it clicks again.
My phone had the same problem.. Upper right screen was lifting ever so slightly. I was passed my thirty days so i couldn't bring it back to bestbuy. My only option was to send it to samsung for repair. The problem was that they had it for almost three weeks and when i got it back the screen was still lifting up. I had to send it back out and almost three weeks later (again) i got it back and it was fixed. They ended up replacing the PBA. Not exactly sure what that is but the phone is fixed.

Dust under screen & touchscreen problems linked?

I was wondering that if these two flaws goes together. If dust can go under screen -maby there is a too big of a gap between parts and the touchscreen connection isnt good etc. Personally I dont have neither one and my phone sits in my pocket all-day-along. So fill in the poll (if I manage to put it in) and lets see if there is something to see.
If you keep your phone so the dust problem is unlikely to appear, please DO NOT answer the poll because this would skew the results.
I think they could be linked since I only got bad touchscreen when my dust contamination level rose from 1 spec of dust to 3 and a batch on the right side. Immediately the next day I felt the touchscreen become unresponsive.
Although that day when I first spotted the increase of dust amount in the screen, touchscreen worked as intended. I only started experiencing lazy touchscreen the day after that.
Maybe somehow specs of dust get "electricized" and affect the touchscreen operation?
I don't see how this could be affected by dust, as the touch layer is glued to the glass, while the lcd is just a screen which displays stuff dust doesn't come through the touch layer. I think it's due to static buildup in the phone.
Edit: also i got the faulty touch screen issue after a week, but it disappeared again, and now i don't have it anymore

No, it's not linked
I have my sensation in puch always when not in use, and there is no dust/any other stuff that could go into phone.
When I got my first sensation it had some dust or dirt whatever under the screen already, they replaced it in few days, now I have this new and it took 2weeks for something to get under there again.
Going to return/replace this again soon.
not good, not good at all!
I queryed htc about that and they answered that return/replace it at the shop, and that what the sop did nice and fast.
I wanted to check if my phone was s-on or s-off so I booted into bootloader (alas, it was s-on), but after I rebooted back into normal mode, touchscreen returned back to normal. No more touchscreen issues.
Very strange, I will be testing it further.

[Q] A Galaxy S Hardware Question

Hi Guys,
Heard a lot about this forum but this question may not belong here...
Anyways,
I dropped a knife on the screen of my i9000. No glass breakage but it instantly lost half the screen, the bottom half. Now if pressed on the screen firmly the bottom half would flash up a weird colour then go back to black. over the next 2-3 days I lost more and more of my screen until I had nothing, total black with no hope of resurrection by pressing on it.
Ok so I replaced the screen today. Being more specific I replaced the whole screen assembly (LCD, digitizer, all capacitive buttions, etc. basicly everything. Things I didn't replace were the main motherboard, battery, backcover ha ha).
This makes me think the fault is in the main motherboard, as if something got shook up but my question is where do I start to look?
I can tell that the LCD isn't getting signal but where would I look to remedy that problem?
Thanks in advance,
A very out of pocket _toiletduck_

question about screen

I got my edge today! YAY! its beautiful, BUT i had a quick question. on the top of the screen and the metal and the glass, there is a little gap just on the top part of the phone. Is this normal? Thank you in advance.
I looked at my phone a long time after i got it, making sure it wasnt all scratched (like most other non sprint users are experiencing ). Screen was fine, but after i put my speigen case on... i took it off to show a buddy of mine the back of the phone... noticed the case left a scratch on the bezal. Note 4 issue all over again. Ugh.
