TomTom - No US Maps on Website? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have TT7 for my HD2 and now need to buy the North American maps. But when I go to the TomTom US site, there's no listing for the map, and in fact they don't even list Windows Mobile software as being available at all - only iPhone, which is pretty obnoxious where I'm concerned.
Am I doing something wrong? Has TomTom abandoned the Windows Mobile platform? What gives?

Bump. Anyone?

Bump. Yeah I've been looking too.

Try ***warez site link removed*** their site is down at the moment, but should be back in a week or so.

I understand the site has been hacked and will take a look at them when they're back, but why would we want to go there rather than buying maps directly from the vendor? Just asking - I don't understand, and it seems you know something.

When you go there, you will see.

Since the site is down due to a hack with no indication of when it'll be back, maybe one of you guys will spare me the suspense and just say what's going on if you know?

Ok, now go and try to select North America and see what happens.

TOMTOM has officially abandoned the US market for TOMTOM Navigator 7 and above, "Due to difficulties with US Cell Service providers"
Except for iPhone because Apple will apparently "work with them", while the other providers won't.
The latest US maps that will work with TT7 on the HD2 are the 825 series. The 845 series appear to be incompatible with WM6.5, which is why TOMTOM won't sell anyone the USA maps for Navigator anymore.

Please quote or link to source of your information because it seems contradictory. TomTom is independent of cell service as it's based on hardware GPS, and iPhone is... a phone, so if there are "difficulties with US Cell Service providers, that would include AT&T, the iPhone partner here in US. Furthermore, the HD2 was recently added on the TomTom site as a supported device, so again your information sounds strange. Color me confused.

i found the maps on the tomtom site or you can download them as a torrent.

Link, to US/CAN maps, please. I don't see them anywhere. I go through the steps of selecting my device, and get to the three boxes where they display the regions, but there is no selection for US/Canada.
I'd rather buy them legally than download them as a torrent.

This from US TomTom support phone-line. The polite young lady on the phone said she went and checked with her supervisor, and with her tech support desk. I am a long time TOMTOM user and was fairly insistent on getting an answer. She was very insistent on 'Can't help you - it will never be available in the US on anything but iPhone.'. Polite, but insistent.
So I regretfully hacked it. It works very well, allowed me to download one city map for free, and I don't expect to get updates for the USA and Canada map I am using. I would have been happy to pay them, I begged them to allow me to pay them...

my bad, i looked and they have maps, but no US . i guess they dont sell them anymore so i guess the torrent is the only option.

i dont know if this helps but i just downloaded the one free map for my city (san diego). of course i didnt try and buy other one and so i dont know if it works.

Any progress on this...?
Thought I'd bump this to see if anything has changed since the last post.
I'm looking to upgrade to Navigator 7 so I can have a version of TT that 'works' on my HD2 (i.e. correct screen format). Plus I want to be able to use the updated maps.
I need to be able to run with both UK/Europe maps and North America maps (for my trips to the US). I am happy to buy these maps from TT. I'm not looking here for free maps!
It seems that TT (for reasons we can only speculate on) still do not support North America maps on Navigator 7.
Has anybody managed to find a solution to this (e.g. Navigator 7 with an older version of NA maps or even a 'fix' to allow Navigator 6 to switch to WVGA mode)?

You could try Vito software, it at least has maps for Oz downloadable.

GPS map software review
I think I tried and bought (trial version never let you fully tested the software) the top 5 commonly used GPS software. I looked around for AU and NZ maps too, but they are either too expensive or not good enough (primitive).
Tom Tom v.2 (for Europe) - very good, and I think it is relatively very cheap. I bought it at least 2 years ago, and the software is already very useful and I can fit the maps in 1 SD card. It allows you to mark a start and end points, then it will guide you to either the quickest or shortest path.
PocketStreet 2002 (for US) - ok. Similar to Tom Tom but with point of interests. But it won't auto-span across 2 maps. i.e. if you travel from one city to another, you have to manually change maps. But it is very cheap and the map is free. I bet they already fixed the auto-span in the newer version.
MapKing 5 (for Asia) - very close to TomTom. I tried MapKing 7, it is even better. With 3D and very accurate street level map.
Vito (for Australia) - cheap but if you are looking for street level map, it is definitely NOT the software to go for. The map is also outdated. Basically waste of money.
Memory-Map (for NZ) - if you plan to the your laptop around, then it is an OK software. It is not built for PocketPC, I have the latest version but it is not even comparative as the others that I got years ago. You have to plan your own route. And the New Zealand North Island map alone is over 900MB, even if I can fit it in one SD card, how can I load it??? And it is sooooooooooooooooooo expensive.
I have not tried this one yet, may be you can have a go. http://www.maptrax.com.au/
... I need to buy different GPS software because I travel to different countries faster than the vendor can create / support maps for different countries!!

Road map without GPS?

I've been looking for street maps/road atlas for ppc but can't find any, I want the same as the book maps you can buy in shops for £5, but for my ppc and not £££s. No GPS, no logging onto the Internet, just a map.
Does anyone know where I can buy or download?
Thanks in advance

yes, but according to the site data transfer is required. I'm in england on o2 which means £5/mb. I don't want to pay each time I want to view a map

Your best bet is TomTom or MioMap. You can use either of these as just the map without the GPS. TomTom even have some City maps.
the cheapest is £65 (and that one doesn't list compatibility with a wizard).
I was hoping for something for something similar in price to any map in a book shop, except be on disc/dl and be able to run on ppc
Smart2go
Try smart2go - http://www.smart2go.com/en/.
Free from Nokia, install app and maps via PC so no data charges and works well with wm5.

GPS software for Tornado

Hello you fine bunch of people out there! I was wondering what was the best gps software for the tornado? And if someone can post a link to where I can find it.THANKS!!!
Use Route 66 Mobile 7 for Windows Mobile Smartphone
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/31361762/Route_66_Mobile_7_WMS_7.0.3040_EasyInstall.zip
not working on my imate SP5. Application starts, shows startup screen, apparently connects with GPS, and shuts down. Any ideas?
of course not, nobody on here knows how to fix anything! I've been looking all day for an answer as to why route 66 7 keeps telling me that there isn't enough memory to load the map and then shuts down, nobody knows. Plenty of threads from like 2006! but nobody knows! AHGHHHHHHHH!!!!! I probably won't get a decent answer for that anytime soon either. Good luck man! and sorry bout this.

You need to buy an SMARTPHONE map for your location
I was looking for GPS software myself a while ago. What I finally decided on was GPSDash (http://wimobi.com/gpsdash/overview.sph2.php?pid=sph2). What I liked was the ability to use custom maps, which are easily made with Google map downloader (for either satellite maps or street maps)
You have to register both to get full functionality and there's no navigation function, but it works well enough for dataloging and knowing exactly where you are.
Aside from that, I also recommend the Google Maps application for smartphones if you have a data plan. It ties with your GPS and, even if you don't have a GPS, gives you an approximate location based on cell tower triangulation.
One more site to mention is http://www.maps-gps-info.com/fgpfw.html. I stumbled across it looking for j2me apps for an old Nextel phone I have. There's lots of smartphone apps there, but I haven't tried most of them.
GPSVP is free too

Have you tried the Windows Live Search? It includes Maps, Driving Directions, From-To-Reverse Route, and many other little features. Maybe not as powerfull as the paid GPS softwares, but surely has got me out of trouble on the road many times. I can post you link if you care to see it, or just search for "Windows Live Search". Its a 700+ Cab. Good Luck

Best car navigation solution for Raphael?

Hi there,
I am looking for a good car navigation solution for Raphael (for travelling in Europe). After reading infos about TT which seems to work at least with the latest releases and Navigon (for which I am not that sure ...), I now read about Tele Atlas McGuider which also seems to be quite good and even less expensive, but it seems to lack TMC or other traffic assistance support which is crucial for me (radio broadcasted or via internet, I do not mind, but it is a must).
I know that there are some other solutions out there. I wonder if you guys have experiences to share, also w/regard to VGA screen resolution and so on.
Thanks!
Eriol
I like the CoPilot Live, works very well and has a nice look and feel.
Co Pilot live is ok, but the traffic part of it is rubbish compared with tomtom. There is no visual display of traffic incidents ahead on the map, only a description that pops up with incident details which you either avoid or ignore. You can set it to automatically reroute, but you dont know whats going on. In my opinion, tomtom is currently the best.
I also found co-pilot slow to scroll around the map, but there again i dont have a fast mem card. Unfortunately there si no trial version available. make sure you get the version specific for the HTC diamond (also compatible with Touch Pro). It can be purchased online (from handango) cheaper than most retail stores.
Thx to both of you! I still would like to compare TomTom with McGuider ...
Eriol
McGuider
Hello,
I am using last version McGuider (7.x I think) and it work fine, but map and icons are too small, I and don't know if it can be repair.
Please if some one use thist program please write down here about how work.
Bye
Garmin XT is the best imo. TT cannot hold a candle to Garmin.
iGO 8
I think iGO 8 is the best solution for Raphael
Navigon

Hi Jochen,
I have a stand alone PNA running Navigon 6.5, and I like it, too. But my experience with Navigon, especially running on my HTC Wizard (MN 6.x), is that the route calculation is rather slow and the whole app is not that fast on a PDA. This might be different on a Raphael due to processor speed, though. We also will use an Xperia X1 here: Is it possible to run MN7 on 800x480 screens?
Eriol
i maybe wrong, but some navigation programs will only run when the supplied memory card is installed. Installing the maps to another card will not work which therefore means you have to swap cards when using the software. Check before you buy!!!

Navigon is nice-- but once you're in the tunnel and lose signal it would say you've reach your destination I also don't like its route calculation-- it's giving me a longer route than tomtom
To my mind ist the default navigation (TomTom 7.451) the best. it uses vga, is fast, new maps

In Copilot7 there is indeed visual display of incidents ahead on the map, you also can get to incident-specific info in just three taps, reporting delay and other usefull info........
No need for automatic rerouting, you can let Copilot ask you what you want to do, after you have read the incident-info and delay time.....
No need for the diamond-version either, regular version runs great on my Touchpro....
See.......................you we're allmost right.....
Someone tried Navigon Mobile Navigator 7 for PDA on Raphael?
Is it compatible and full working?
Before then I buy, I asked to the support team, but no clear response about it.
Thanks.
NAVIGON Mobile Navigator 7 can work fine on Raphael, with this simple workaround.
You need a GPS port replicator (like Franson GPSgate) to solve the GPS signal stability problem on MN7.
I hope this can help who love this product family.

Ovi maps Anyone??

http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/21/nokia-offering-free-turn-by-turn-navigation-on-smartphones-globa/
This is looks SO good!! There isnt a chance its doable on a leo i suppose? ...
Sounds good, I'm still trying to get HTC to give me activation code + map for Copilot. As I believe they have rendered features of the phone as Trials by hard-linking them to Copilot (Footprints + Navipanel).
They did say both features work with any Sat Nav that is installed on the phone and suggested that I uninstall Copilot lol. I asked for detailed instructions on how to do this and which didn't involve me hard-resetting the phone. They then said my complaint would be escalated and their development team were working on a fix lol.
My solution was for them to offer me Full version of Copilot + UK map, which is a compromise as my phone should be able to give me instruction to get to the Effiel Tower and the Statue of Liberty as standard but obviously with just UK maps it isn't going to be able to do that lol.
Extracts of conversations with them concerning the issue:
HTC EU Team:
"Well footprints works with what ever is default on the device and as copilot is not made by us, so we cant advise why it is a trial version"
ME:
"copilot is not made by us, so we cant advise why it is a trial version". Are you trying to tell me that HTC Corp, were unaware that they had included a 14 day Trial of Copilot on their Flagship smartphone? And that indeed it was meant to be a complete version of Copilot, then fair enough, please supply Activation code and Global maps to release the software and thus allow the full use of the features on your HTC HD2 smartphone.
My complaint then got escalated lol.
Will let you know if they ever pay up lol.
