There is no such thing as "best ROM"
All will depend on your personal needs.
What is best to me not necessary should be for you.
Said that, enter to ROM section and read a bit to know users comments, then make your choice
On my opinion Tomal 8.2, 8.5 and 8.9 are the more stable and great performance, but it´s up to you to find out your "best"

Or...............
Or you can check every members signature where they proudly announce their favourite ROM!

but i dunno whether my jasjar is suitable for 64 mb rom or 128 mb rom

If Uni is original (never sent to upgrade Ram) you have and original 64Mb Universal

can i downgrade to my original ROM DOPOD 900 from factory?
or there's problem if i do that?
thx

No problem, you can downgrade same way as you flash a new ROM

Best ROM for iMate JasJar (HTC Universal, Exec, ...)
I would have to agree that Tomal's 8.5 is the best of the posted ROMs. Not perfect, but it is very stable, good performing, yet fresh enough to run most new apps.
Above 8.5, there's all this annoying stuff in the UI, and performance and memory usage take a hit. Below 8.5, certain niceties like drag-scrolling disappear, the dialer looks ugly, and fundamental apps such as Microsoft's Facebook won't install.
There are a few non-Tomal ROMs out there - one of them, a WM5-based version, is really very good, and I used it for weeks. But for me, 8.5 with WM6.1 is the best compromise.
It looks like I'll be staying with this ROM, and staying with my iMate JasJar, until a similar or better big-keyboard big-screen phone running Windows Phone 7 becomes cheap enough.
Cheers
a

First I installed luca16thebig's light ROM 6.1, I found it really awesome as it was really fast and stable in the beginning. But as the time passed I realized that my battery is draining a lot quicker and also the mobile started to RESTART itself once every hour. The last thing which forced me to reflash the device was when I wanted to configure GPRS and no matter what I did it didn't want to connect.
Afterards I installed "TML v8.7.1 21028 regular 64MB", and so far everything is working fine, though its just been 2 days. GPRS is good and battery time is better.
Things I am not liking is the non availability of MMS inside the ROM and also I would really want to disable Auto Time Sync feature somehow.
Apart from this I believe it is so good. But I will flash "TML89_WM61_21048_REGULAR_64MB" or "TML89_WM61_21048_LITE_64MB" tomorrow just to check whats new in there
I hope it helped someone

Have a look through ROM thread, you can disable timesync by deleting from REG startup. MMS can be downloaded as cab, use Dutty's - I've posted it somewhere.

Thanks for the prompt response, I am using Arcsoft - do you think Dutty's is better ? I am going to search the thread for Timesync registry hack..

is it really worth it?

Hi all,
Ive just got myself a tmobile wizard. ive been looking all through the wm6 pages and was just wondering is it worth me updating my wm5 to wm6. im sure all the new users would like to know this (is there speed improvements etc) and is there a rom that is stable and 99% working? as ive had alot of problems in the past when updating my blueangel to wm5
apologies if these are stupid questions
IMO, there's not enough extra in WM6 to justify the little problems it has. I'd suggest a stable WM5 like Farias 3.3
farias 3.3 is awsome , all of the wm6 roms have issues but i am using the clean wm6 from faria thats in the rom kitchen and it seems just as stable as the wm5 3.3

I would 2nd that!!! Now that we have the Ir button working 100%, i dont think there is other problems
So far so good here....
I know it's kinda aging now but I have been running NotTooSmart's Vanilla Rom for a while now and I have no issues whatsoever. I use my device constantly all day every day and though there was some trick to getting it to work just how I wanted I was comfortable enough to put the same ROM on my wife's Wizard as well (If you only knew how big of a step this was.... god forbid something goes wrong there I will never hear the end of it) .
Overall, here is the list of things that I do with rom if you are contemplating using it yourself and want to know if it will work for you.
Exchange activesync (heavy use)
Pocket IE
AIM 2.0 for PPC (osed once or twice)
Watching movies with TCPMP
( SEE TCPMP NOTES BELOW )
I use WMP as my only MP3 player with a couple of SD cards
WIFI works fine
Bluetooth headset with my HT850 works fine
Phone works okay. I mean, nothing is perfect and I do miss a call on occasion but so far it's acceptable. I have found, despite my previous posts, that 2.19 UK actually is more reliable. 2.25 US is better for data in my area but 2.19 UK causes me to miss a lot less calls.
I use internet radio via TCPMP at the gym every day reliably.
Sirius Sat Radio via SiriusWM5 works great although on occasion I do get the odd program error - NOTE: happens in WM5 too.
I DO NOT OVERCLOCK AT ALL as I really have no need for it.
Ewallet latest release works great
Listpro works great
I use a whole bunch of networking apps (tracert, pocket ping, etc...) from way back in the WM2003 days that still work just fine on WM6.
Terminal services works (though most people will not use this).
TCPMP NOTE: In order to do internet radio and most video you will need to DL and install the WMV9 codecs. This is a known issue and can be found by searching through back posts here in the WM6 forum.
Overall, I say yeah, it's worth it. It's more of an evolutionary upgrade than anything but it's a "nice to have". Plus, HTML email is real nice if you have EXCH 2007.
ok thanks all for the help!
i think i will give it a go, can anyone give me a direct link to the faria 3.3 rom (i cant seem to find it)

If you are wanting to give WM6 a go, then the Faria 3.3 rom is not the correct one. That is a WM5 rom.
The Faria Clean / Vanilla is the WM6 one. You have to download the entire ROM Kitchen, but there is a flash rom directory that has a default rom already built (or you can go through the build process to add and remove the stuff you want / don't want.
The link for the Faria WM6 is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303406 (same as given above, but that is NOT the AKU 3.3 Faria ROM)
If you really want Faria AKU 3.3 (again, its a stable WM5 ROM) then its here:

And then use this link to step you through flashing...

sometimes you can get around the 90 minute wait by just putting http://anonym.to/? infront of the URL. Doesn't always work but its worth a try.

I know I'm coming in late to the thread, but I think in general I would be a bit more cautious. The leap from a stock rom to a (necessarily) custom WM6 rom, and then to a rom kitchen is better taken in baby steps in my opinion. In my own view, objectively I don't see any difference in my day to day usage of my wizard from when I was running WM5. In fact, I think because I've become obsessed with tinkering with it, I spend more time trying out different odds and ends, tweaking and breaking and fixing things than I do using it!
If you are primarily interested in USING you Wizard, I would start with a small step to say the Faria 3.3 WM5 rom. Learn to unlock, and flash, load your programs again, etc. Then once that's digested move up to WM6 if you really feel the itch, then try a rom kitchen as a final step.
Whatever you do, Keep it Fun!
Very good points, but unfortunately, Faria did not release his "Vanilla" as a seperate ROM but instead with the entire kitchen (which I agree could be dangerous for someone new). My point was you can use that Vanilla rom by downloading the entire kitchen, but just going to the falshrom directory and flashing what came with it as the default (I understand its basically what we were running in beta which is a very nice ROM). It is a very good WM6 rom with no "cooking" required.
I've thought about making a couple of these Faria Vanilla's up and posting them (with Faria's permission) for those that only want the rom and not the entire kitchen (or the temptation that comes with it).
i used to tinker my blueangel so much, but the wm5 roms just didnt work right. with this rom from the kitchen is it just a 'stock' one? will it just have the programs my tmobile rom has? as im happy with my tmobile rom but i just want to have wm6. i dont need all the tweaking tools as long as it works

No, its a "Vanilla" or "Clean" rom (ie: pretty much stripped down to the core). So you then add back to it just what you want.
If you want a full featured WM6, then look at Faria's "the real thing" but there are issues with that one so you have to dig through the huge thread for fixes (so I don't recommend it). If you want something that feels like a "stock" rom, then do the Faria AKU 3.3 (again, its WM5, but its better than the stock ones IMO).
I like the Vanilla roms though as you just put on it what you want. But not everyone likes that.
ive unlocked and my pda is ready for wm6. what file do i run from the kitchen folder to start the update?

I think that's a great idea. Even if you put in all his currently available options, it is still more of a vanilla rom. Maybe with and without Voice Command, as that seems to be a make or break issue for folks. But serve it up the way you like it!

Best Rom For HTC Wizard?

I know many of you may think this is based on opinion, but personally I'm new at the scene and just tried Faria's WWE WM6 ROM (the real thing) featured at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762 .
My original reason for installing was cause my 8125's OS started lagging lately for some reason (it would take a few seconds for menus and items to show up instead of being instant). In addition, battery life was HORRIBLE (would die in around 2 days). So I went and downloaded Faria's WWE WM6 ROM (the real thing). Installation was easy, the ROM worked great, my battery life greatly improved (even though I overclocked to 247 with cpuscaling at 143).
Unfortunately, I messed around too much and accidentally killed my phone application , not to mention the OS has started to lag (probably because I installed too many things?).
Either way, I'm looking to download a new ROM. I want something that has all the features of Faria's HTC Wizard Rom (the real thing), and more. I don't care too much about extra space, because frankly I don't need it. I just want something that's fast and feature-packed (and includes everything from Faria's ROM). Any tips or suggestions? Help would really be appreciated, as I've just gone through 3 ROMS that I didn't like. Thanks.

I have tried many different ROM's, I keep going back to this one. It's the most stable for me.
Core 2.0n
For me, the best WM6 rom is the Core 2.0n (based on XPlore 1.0)
Thephone is very fast (boot in 35 seconds), no bugs, working well with TomTom6.
I'm only waiting a full French WM6 rom
for months of WM6.0 use; Faria is the best for stable.
im testing Pandora 1.05 right now.
From all of the ROMs that I have used. I think Faria is the best one. it's very stable.
pfff i think its best for me:
base version of Pandora:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307080
and core 2.0 of coz.
Faria's overloaded imo.
i like reloaded
Faria The Real Thing is most stable for me
soft reset everyday, to remove the slow down due to any memory leaks
and I'm gonna buck the trend here, wm6 is SLOW. use a 2.26 if you want a quick one
two day battery life sounds good some people think one day is good others, several days (but it depends how much you use it).

5.2.1413 fast
Hi,
i have been using Xplore 2.0n and it is great.
Its near Full Vanilla, but it supports AD2P and most of the basics.
The new 5.2.1413 build is FAAASSTTT, and there are FULL VANILLA releases, nevertheless, i was unable to set AD2P.
If there is a fix for ad2p, i will surely switch to 5.2.1413 because it is way way faster than Xplore 2.0n

The ROM Kitchen is the newer version of Faria's rom, and its vanilla, but you can add stuff into it. My Crossbow Reloaded (link below) is a cooked version of this rom with stuff added to it and a few fixes I put into it.

Guide to WM6 Roms

As far as I can tell there are 5 WM6 roms, making it pretty hard to decide which one to use.
Theres Phils alpha and beta versions which both appear to be cooked versions of the Vox rom? And both have a high CPU bug resulting in bad battery life.
THeres the perfect english version, don't know where that came from.
And the sticky post with a HTC beta rom, sticky because...?
And also the official dopod rom, which some people say is the best choice.
So I guess I'm not the only one confused about which one to use. Guess the dopod one is the best bet at the moment.
None of the actual ROMS are based on HTC VOX. NONE.
All are based on an INTERNAL UNIT BUILD...
I've tested them, and the best is " Windows Mobile 6 for Tornado Perfect English Edition" by andot. It has some bugfixes (eg: WMP, MMS..) and other TWEAKS, that you will NOT FIND in other ROMS (eg: Automatic Time, Unlock Clock, etc etc). So, right now, it's the best build.
No CPU overload problem, it was fixed. (and btw, it can be fixed manually by removing a key from registry, a2dpfix related key)

There is no official DOPOD ROM. That name is misleading. I am guessing the cooker meant that his ROM is for the DOPOD variant of HTC Tornado.
I'm agree with DSF " Windows Mobile 6 for Tornado Perfect English Edition" 20070807 is for the moment ( 07/08/2007 23h31) the best ROM for WM6 on Tornado.
Not being self-whoring or anything here, but pretty much ALL of the major issues in my ROM have been sorted in a test build I build today, expect a release sometime next week.
AFAIK, all the WM6 builds are based on my ALPHA build, however I will be porting a HTC S710 XIP and IMGFS when time and resources permit, so we'll have something like an WM6 RTM build for our tornado's...
Phil
Yes, without Phil's alpha build, we have nothing about the WM6 for Tornado, Phil did a great work!
Thanks andot, also thanks for some of your great work I've included in my test BETA2 ROM
Phil
its nice to see two brilliant cookers helping together! nyahahaha!
brilliant + brilliant = awesome rom!!!!! am i right?
If we help each other, the world has got to be a better place by the end of it Maybe not create a ROM together, but definitely share what we have and know

that is the whole idea between open source software as well, such as linux. it doesn't mean that you must create a single rom but you must use each other's wisdom to perfect your own work.

You are right, Windows Mobile 6 for Tornado Perfect English Edition 20070807 is the best at the moment. I have tried all these ROMs on my Dopod and now decided to stay with this ROM. Thank you all for your hard works and effots.
Just one small question. Anybody try the WWE version released right before Tornado Perfect English Edition ? My Dopod seems to have better batery life on WWE Rom than Perfect English Edition ROM. I have done a comparation test in the same amount of time (8 hours). In WWE ROM, my phone losts just less than 10% of battery but on Perfect English Edition ROM (v20070807), my phone losts up to 20% (even I used Automatic CPU speeds Mode in Tornado Power Control, saw the CPU speed is lower to 132MHz, closed phone and didn't use phone within these 8 hours).
Can anyboday help to explain to me why and how to solve this matter ?
same here. but without power control. in about 12 hours i have lost about 30%
Phil, what font size are you usign for SMS? I hope it is the same as your Beta build because the 'Perfect Tornado ROM' uses a very small SMS font
I flashed back to the WWE version this afternoon. It's more stable and somehow has less power consumption (I can't put my fingers on the exact reason for this.)

I have no idea about what application causes this matter, just use what it has in your Perfect ROM. Can Automatic CPU speed mode in Tornando Power Control application cause this matter ?
Perhaps the automatic CPU power reduced the clock speed when not in use, hence giving you more power, that should be what happened
Using the WWE build my current power draw is 48 mAmp. (SDA) What do you guys get using other builds? (use celeTask to check)

Jaguar is best!
I 've tested every WM6 ROM out there. None satisfied me. So, decided to go back WM5 AKU 3.3 Generic (without T-Mobile stuff). Perhaps, what I can recommend for WM6 is either 15342 (dogfood) or 1437. So far, these are 2 most stable build by far.

Please read on the forum, research a little bit about Cook's preferences and style and look which one suits your own need..
Mods shall we delete this thread please???
The one that works the best for my needs is.....
Hello all,
Yes, these threads pop up about every other day or so.... and while they might get tiresome for the old hats and gurus here, it's still nice to collect a smattering of opinions as to where the user community might be leaning regarding what rom base, touch or no touch, HTC Home or HTC NOT Home, overclocking, memory free, performance, battery usage, etc... and while this is extremely specific to the device and flash method(s) used as well as the applications loaded and a slew of other factors, it is still just a loose "hold your finger to the wind" type of thing that is still interesting....
Myself? I always look to see what the latest info is on the NBD, TNT, and TNE fronts.... and when it comes time, I usually end up trying all three as well as throwing in Mfrazz and others when I see something new from them... All in all, every one of them has occupied my rom for months at a time....
Right now I'm running TNT.1457 and everything works... the apps I have bog it down a bit and I don't use Touch or HTC Home.... the memory usage is pretty good with ~21 MB free after all my Today plugins and such are loaded... battery life is a little scary but that's the way I use my phone... a Cingular 8125.... I see NBD X has come out.... been drooling just thinking about it....
So the best ROM for My Usage? I lean towards NBD and TNT the most... they seem to match my usage patterns of my phone the best....
My $.02 (and I'll probably get change)

My recommendation is that you READ and LEARN as most of all here made it when entered this site by first time, that´s the best way for you to know what is the best ROM.
Good luck
It's your choice
Take Tomal's V8.2 and be happy.
Or simply try all self.

Same thought
try this
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421102 not bad at all stable so far and fast
It does not exist yet
<Sorry for lengthy one.. but its one of the FAQ time and again asked and clarified>
Seriously..
A perfect super ROM that is WM6 or WM6.1 for Universal does not EXIST as device is not made for WM6 and above, whatever available is simply ported and made to work for Universal by tweeking the stuff.
The best ROM for Universal is undoubtedly the one that came with it.
I own Uni since 2005 and really have not faced any issues with the stuff that came with it and everything just works as expected.
Everything else simply works for a period till another version out or little longer till you get equally frustrated with it, something or other will be wrong with any of the cooked ROMs for simple reason that the cookers may not allocate equal amount of time/resources for developing and testing like M$ .
If you dont bother about the missing/nonworking features of a ROM that is cooked that contain most of your requirements, simply flash it and use it.
Feedback the comments/findings back through this forum, if cooker finds time or feels need to fix them, look for another version from them.
In my observation since I joined (last two months) and comments by experienced users who joined this site years back almost same and the efforts are to make Uni live longer and keep the enthusiasm of cookers and their passion to share their work and knowledge. Nothing is being claimed in response except some good thank you messages and encouraging notes and small donations to keep them singing. So its all your call as rightly disclaimed by cookers
I am not agree that "The best ROM for Universal is undoubtedly the one that came with it."
Perhaps could be the more stable but not the best, as wm6.1 comes with a lot of new features to take more advantage of devices.
Wanted: ROM WM6.x for Uni with support for Scandinavian keyboard and BT Sound
Hi all,
After scanning the forum for this topic in the last 2 days (it has been raining all weekend, and the wife is going horsbackriding, nothing else to do...), I decided to put up this post.
A lot has been said about "What is the best WM6.x ROM for Uni". I am still running on the original ROM and WM5. No complaints. Only this that I would like to see improved is the available RAM for storage. When installing software on my Jasjar, I always install on SD when possible. But som software is just screaming for installation on the device. And this makes installing new software always a challenge.
Right now this is what I have in memory:
Storage: total 43.50, in use: 39.04, free: 4.46
Program: total 50.16, in use: 28.78, free: 21.38
So I started wondering if one of the new WM6.x ROMs would improve my memory problem? I use Opera, skype and msn the oftest of all default windows programs. All other are the ones I purchased/downloaded like GPS/navigation, mediaplayers, weather, alarm, backup and wifi scanner, among other.
What I find most important when going for a new ROM, is better memory, BT sound (don't need a2dp, I have a Jabra BT8040 that does the trick for me in mono), and Scandinavian keyboard. Oh yes, and real time push email. Guess this means I need at the least AKU2.
Now this last one I am not sure if the keyboard option is supported per default. I use the sym button to get access to the special characters like ø,æ and å.
That my Jasjar gets the look of a Touch Pro 2 is a nice bonus, but not a must ;-). I am so pleased with my Jasjar, even after 4 years of daily usage, I still am convinced that there is still no worthy alternative available. Even though I have been flirting with the Touch Pro 2....
So guys, what are my options?
Well the options you have
1) use the same rom LOL
2) Use the rom's here some of them have more free storage...
i'm flashed to thingonaspring v1.1 which gives you 40.69 mb free memory after flashing.... And the one with most free storage memory is contullas rom... but after flashing to this rom you would need to do doc format every time you reflash another rom and it is bit old build now...
3)Or simply get bigger sd card
4) well about the looks there are lots of GUI software like WAD2, rltoday, home++ , SPB mobile shell, etc so use some of those themes for new looks..
Been using Tomal 8.81 for a while and so far fast and stable, recommend.
I can recommend Tomal's 8.5 too. I'm using it for several months without problems: fast and stable.
