Best Rom For HTC Wizard? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I know many of you may think this is based on opinion, but personally I'm new at the scene and just tried Faria's WWE WM6 ROM (the real thing) featured at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762 .
My original reason for installing was cause my 8125's OS started lagging lately for some reason (it would take a few seconds for menus and items to show up instead of being instant). In addition, battery life was HORRIBLE (would die in around 2 days). So I went and downloaded Faria's WWE WM6 ROM (the real thing). Installation was easy, the ROM worked great, my battery life greatly improved (even though I overclocked to 247 with cpuscaling at 143).
Unfortunately, I messed around too much and accidentally killed my phone application , not to mention the OS has started to lag (probably because I installed too many things?).
Either way, I'm looking to download a new ROM. I want something that has all the features of Faria's HTC Wizard Rom (the real thing), and more. I don't care too much about extra space, because frankly I don't need it. I just want something that's fast and feature-packed (and includes everything from Faria's ROM). Any tips or suggestions? Help would really be appreciated, as I've just gone through 3 ROMS that I didn't like. Thanks.

I have tried many different ROM's, I keep going back to this one. It's the most stable for me.

Core 2.0n
For me, the best WM6 rom is the Core 2.0n (based on XPlore 1.0)
Thephone is very fast (boot in 35 seconds), no bugs, working well with TomTom6.
I'm only waiting a full French WM6 rom

for months of WM6.0 use; Faria is the best for stable.
im testing Pandora 1.05 right now.

From all of the ROMs that I have used. I think Faria is the best one. it's very stable.

pfff i think its best for me:
base version of Pandora:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307080
and core 2.0 of coz.
Faria's overloaded imo.

i like reloaded

Faria The Real Thing is most stable for me

soft reset everyday, to remove the slow down due to any memory leaks
and I'm gonna buck the trend here, wm6 is SLOW. use a 2.26 if you want a quick one
two day battery life sounds good some people think one day is good others, several days (but it depends how much you use it).

I am completely of agreement with you.

From all of the ROMs that I have used. I think Faria "The Real Thing" is the best one. And Xplore 1.1, too.

pdaviet rom

5.2.1413 fast
Hi,
i have been using Xplore 2.0n and it is great.
Its near Full Vanilla, but it supports AD2P and most of the basics.
The new 5.2.1413 build is FAAASSTTT, and there are FULL VANILLA releases, nevertheless, i was unable to set AD2P.
If there is a fix for ad2p, i will surely switch to 5.2.1413 because it is way way faster than Xplore 2.0n

I have a quick question...
Which one is newer/better?
Faria's WWE WM6 Rom ?
Or Faria's HTC Wizard Final ROM with Pro Kitchen?

The ROM Kitchen is the newer version of Faria's rom, and its vanilla, but you can add stuff into it. My Crossbow Reloaded (link below) is a cooked version of this rom with stuff added to it and a few fixes I put into it.

the best rom so far

I've tryed the MB version of WM6 for about 2 1/2 weeks. It was manageble. Quite a bit of tweaking to get it where it needed to be. Anyhow,i felt it was good but i knew i could've used more speed in terms of hopping in & out of programs, apps, etc. Now i have the Xplore version. Xplore version seemed to draw me in due to the the focus on memory. I would like to hear some different opinions on which rom is best. I definitely know this is a matter of opinion but i would really appreciate the insight. If anyone has tried the Faria (real thing) rom and you like it...tell me why...give me some opinions or insight on why. Thanks in advance!
It's pretty hard to say which is the best. Everyone has had different experiences with different roms. I have a G4 wizard and so far Underground has proven itself to be my consistent choice. Few tweaks here and there(what rom don't you have to tweak) but my main issue was battery. Even after using the battery cab for each rom, Underground always gets about two days of battery for me and overclocked at 260. Also, after a long day of using the phone I hold about 20 megs of free space. Again, this has been working for my phone and I can't say everyone will have the same results.
Underground
Having tried them basically all: UNDERGROUND is my best choice
Cheers
hrb
i have tried a good bit of crossbow roms....
orwell: ok...had to do a lot of tweaking and to me it wasnt all that stable. first crossbow rom i used...switched back to original wm5 until better roms were released
pdaviet: honestly...i never liked these roms...for me it was too cluttered with applications i didnt need...it was based on orwells with tweaks but still wasnt as stable like i wanted to be.
underground: Just Ok...no major bugs...but the performance wasnt there (even after tweaks) and my phone would hang a bit. free memory was about 22 ~ 25mb.
mb: good rom. quite stable. free memory above 25mb. didnt use it for too much because mun released his rom.
mun's rom: another good rom; ran stable without crashes for weeks. performance was good and free memory was good (about 27 ~ 29MB)
faria real thing and vanilla: both are good roms and were real stable. real thing had apps but i prefer barebones so i can practice cooking. vanilla was good but had some bugs (phone settings issue...i didnt have problems with gsm but i think faria did). vanilla had great free memory (30 ~ 31mb). this is the rom i am practicing cooking on...i am still working on clearing the phone settings issue myself (need more hours in a day man...)
xplore: this is a great rom. cooked for free memory...i have 33mb free on my main phone. i havent notice any big problems except a wifi issue i encountered (wouldnt turn on) but that was cleared after i used the UK 2.19 radio rom (which is great by the way....i know ppl like 2.61 for it reception but i have been missing a lot of calls)
nottosmart vanilla: unfortunately i didnt get to try this but i read that its a good rom.
i really liked mun's, faria's and xplore. it really depends on what your looking for your wizard....mun's was real stable, xplore and faria had free memory above 30mb and were vanilla roms. we owe a lot to these guys for their hard work and there're the reason i started cooking (btw thanks molski for your cooking pack..its awesome). thanks guys.

is it really worth it?

Hi all,
Ive just got myself a tmobile wizard. ive been looking all through the wm6 pages and was just wondering is it worth me updating my wm5 to wm6. im sure all the new users would like to know this (is there speed improvements etc) and is there a rom that is stable and 99% working? as ive had alot of problems in the past when updating my blueangel to wm5
apologies if these are stupid questions
IMO, there's not enough extra in WM6 to justify the little problems it has. I'd suggest a stable WM5 like Farias 3.3
farias 3.3 is awsome , all of the wm6 roms have issues but i am using the clean wm6 from faria thats in the rom kitchen and it seems just as stable as the wm5 3.3

I would 2nd that!!! Now that we have the Ir button working 100%, i dont think there is other problems
So far so good here....
I know it's kinda aging now but I have been running NotTooSmart's Vanilla Rom for a while now and I have no issues whatsoever. I use my device constantly all day every day and though there was some trick to getting it to work just how I wanted I was comfortable enough to put the same ROM on my wife's Wizard as well (If you only knew how big of a step this was.... god forbid something goes wrong there I will never hear the end of it) .
Overall, here is the list of things that I do with rom if you are contemplating using it yourself and want to know if it will work for you.
Exchange activesync (heavy use)
Pocket IE
AIM 2.0 for PPC (osed once or twice)
Watching movies with TCPMP
( SEE TCPMP NOTES BELOW )
I use WMP as my only MP3 player with a couple of SD cards
WIFI works fine
Bluetooth headset with my HT850 works fine
Phone works okay. I mean, nothing is perfect and I do miss a call on occasion but so far it's acceptable. I have found, despite my previous posts, that 2.19 UK actually is more reliable. 2.25 US is better for data in my area but 2.19 UK causes me to miss a lot less calls.
I use internet radio via TCPMP at the gym every day reliably.
Sirius Sat Radio via SiriusWM5 works great although on occasion I do get the odd program error - NOTE: happens in WM5 too.
I DO NOT OVERCLOCK AT ALL as I really have no need for it.
Ewallet latest release works great
Listpro works great
I use a whole bunch of networking apps (tracert, pocket ping, etc...) from way back in the WM2003 days that still work just fine on WM6.
Terminal services works (though most people will not use this).
TCPMP NOTE: In order to do internet radio and most video you will need to DL and install the WMV9 codecs. This is a known issue and can be found by searching through back posts here in the WM6 forum.
Overall, I say yeah, it's worth it. It's more of an evolutionary upgrade than anything but it's a "nice to have". Plus, HTML email is real nice if you have EXCH 2007.
ok thanks all for the help!

If you are wanting to give WM6 a go, then the Faria 3.3 rom is not the correct one. That is a WM5 rom.
The Faria Clean / Vanilla is the WM6 one. You have to download the entire ROM Kitchen, but there is a flash rom directory that has a default rom already built (or you can go through the build process to add and remove the stuff you want / don't want.
The link for the Faria WM6 is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303406 (same as given above, but that is NOT the AKU 3.3 Faria ROM)
If you really want Faria AKU 3.3 (again, its a stable WM5 ROM) then its here:

And then use this link to step you through flashing...

sometimes you can get around the 90 minute wait by just putting http://anonym.to/? infront of the URL. Doesn't always work but its worth a try.
Is it worth it?
I know I'm coming in late to the thread, but I think in general I would be a bit more cautious. The leap from a stock rom to a (necessarily) custom WM6 rom, and then to a rom kitchen is better taken in baby steps in my opinion. In my own view, objectively I don't see any difference in my day to day usage of my wizard from when I was running WM5. In fact, I think because I've become obsessed with tinkering with it, I spend more time trying out different odds and ends, tweaking and breaking and fixing things than I do using it!
If you are primarily interested in USING you Wizard, I would start with a small step to say the Faria 3.3 WM5 rom. Learn to unlock, and flash, load your programs again, etc. Then once that's digested move up to WM6 if you really feel the itch, then try a rom kitchen as a final step.
Whatever you do, Keep it Fun!
Very good points, but unfortunately, Faria did not release his "Vanilla" as a seperate ROM but instead with the entire kitchen (which I agree could be dangerous for someone new). My point was you can use that Vanilla rom by downloading the entire kitchen, but just going to the falshrom directory and flashing what came with it as the default (I understand its basically what we were running in beta which is a very nice ROM). It is a very good WM6 rom with no "cooking" required.
I've thought about making a couple of these Faria Vanilla's up and posting them (with Faria's permission) for those that only want the rom and not the entire kitchen (or the temptation that comes with it).
i used to tinker my blueangel so much, but the wm5 roms just didnt work right. with this rom from the kitchen is it just a 'stock' one? will it just have the programs my tmobile rom has? as im happy with my tmobile rom but i just want to have wm6. i dont need all the tweaking tools as long as it works

No, its a "Vanilla" or "Clean" rom (ie: pretty much stripped down to the core). So you then add back to it just what you want.
If you want a full featured WM6, then look at Faria's "the real thing" but there are issues with that one so you have to dig through the huge thread for fixes (so I don't recommend it). If you want something that feels like a "stock" rom, then do the Faria AKU 3.3 (again, its WM5, but its better than the stock ones IMO).
I like the Vanilla roms though as you just put on it what you want. But not everyone likes that.
ive unlocked and my pda is ready for wm6. what file do i run from the kitchen folder to start the update?

I think that's a great idea. Even if you put in all his currently available options, it is still more of a vanilla rom. Maybe with and without Voice Command, as that seems to be a make or break issue for folks. But serve it up the way you like it!

Jaguar is best!
I 've tested every WM6 ROM out there. None satisfied me. So, decided to go back WM5 AKU 3.3 Generic (without T-Mobile stuff). Perhaps, what I can recommend for WM6 is either 15342 (dogfood) or 1437. So far, these are 2 most stable build by far.

Please read on the forum, research a little bit about Cook's preferences and style and look which one suits your own need..
Mods shall we delete this thread please???
The one that works the best for my needs is.....
Hello all,
Yes, these threads pop up about every other day or so.... and while they might get tiresome for the old hats and gurus here, it's still nice to collect a smattering of opinions as to where the user community might be leaning regarding what rom base, touch or no touch, HTC Home or HTC NOT Home, overclocking, memory free, performance, battery usage, etc... and while this is extremely specific to the device and flash method(s) used as well as the applications loaded and a slew of other factors, it is still just a loose "hold your finger to the wind" type of thing that is still interesting....
Myself? I always look to see what the latest info is on the NBD, TNT, and TNE fronts.... and when it comes time, I usually end up trying all three as well as throwing in Mfrazz and others when I see something new from them... All in all, every one of them has occupied my rom for months at a time....
Right now I'm running TNT.1457 and everything works... the apps I have bog it down a bit and I don't use Touch or HTC Home.... the memory usage is pretty good with ~21 MB free after all my Today plugins and such are loaded... battery life is a little scary but that's the way I use my phone... a Cingular 8125.... I see NBD X has come out.... been drooling just thinking about it....
So the best ROM for My Usage? I lean towards NBD and TNT the most... they seem to match my usage patterns of my phone the best....
My $.02 (and I'll probably get change)

Rom Reviews Anyone?

I have searched already and haven't found reviews of the new cooked and stock roms out there that we all use and love. If your flash happy like myself you would love to here unbiased reviews of the roms and I don't mean whats in the exisiting threads for each rom that have complaints, rants, and flaming. If anyone else would like to jump on this please let me know or just start reviewing the roms yourselves and the mods will hopefully start a sticky for reviews. Thanks and to all the great chefs keep up the good work.
dutty's roms are quite nice. They've got the basics. You'll probably need to install a few things for personal needs, but not too much.
For example, I always install HTC's Task manager. But he took it out since some people liked the WKTask (eww).
I've tried a few random others, and some pack in too many apps
**Edit for links** http://duttythroy.lives-in.eu/
->Current thread for V4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361544
I'd like to be able to stick with a ROM for long enough to be able to do a full review
Agreed, Duttys v4 felt nice but I changed to Q-Mobile because I was having problems with bluetooth on the v4 rom.... After playing around with the Q-Mobile rom I don't actually think that the BT problem was caused by duttys rom.
Q-Mobile is nice and clean but I've had problems installing some stuff, again might not be anything to do with the ROM and it may well be the user and or the cabs at fault
What I'd really like is to try out a WM6.1 rom to see if the new network drivers sort out my wifi problem but Im really unsure as to which is the best, hopefully some people will post their thoughts on 6.1 roms in here.

That sounds fast
Roms depends on user needs Some people like fancy stuff. Like duttys one and some others with dual touch, cube etc.... And some people are professional they want fast, effective. I am in love with sleuth rom. I didnt have to install separate radio, separate java bla blah. Everything working out of the box working fine. Some people have issues like skype and core player. But they are problem with all 6.1 version.
I would of LOVED sleuth's wm 6.1 v3.0 if the audiomanager worked There were a few other small things, such as how to disable threaded sms, without killing the notifications (I didn't really like the threaded smsing, but I got enough smses that if I didn't get a notification it would mean lots of missed smses)
I spent the last 10 hours or so flashing different roms onto my phone, I've went back to Q-mobile 1.2 =/
If you don't mind the threaded sms and don't use audiomanager (I installed mortplayer to compensate) I'd suggest Sleuth's 3.0 6.1 rom.
I've tried just about every rom here and I keep going back to Q-Mobile 1.2.
I love dutty's customizations, but I have to agree that Quentin's are the most polished. I have tried almost all of them and have settled on Quentin's Q-Mobile 1.2 for now (with a lot of my own customizations of course).
Just wait a little bit
All I have to tell you guys is wait and see
Current is Sleuth 3.0 WM6.1
I am using an ATT Tilt version in the US, I have tried many of the current roms (to me some were more well done than I like, Some were not stable or under done) I like 3 roms
WM 6.1 - I like Austinsync's rom and Sleuth 3.0
WM 6.0 - I like Q-Mobile 1.2 (Sorry have not tried any others but the Sleuth version is probably good there too)
Cheers

For now, I'm staying away from the 6.1 roms (I have a feeling that "for now" will change to "right now" once dutty's new one is released) but I've been using dutty's V4 since the day it was released and I love it. It's very fast and has everything you need.

Haze,
I would say give Dutty a couple of days, or a week at the most, and he will release his newest flavor. The beta testers have worked really hard to get a perfect ROM to the community. You will be pleasantly surprised at the result. One thing you should know. Dutty has been building a WM6.1 ROM without a phone much like Schap's does which is quite amazing.
why do they both do it without phones? Did their phones break or are they using other ones? Anyways I like Q-Mobile 1.2 but I received a lot of error messages I didn't get on other roms. Sleuths is good also but a little too clean for my liking. Downloading Dutty v4 now hopefully this is a winner until his 6.1

I have 2 devices, 1 with dutty's WM6.1 and the other is Sleuth 3.0's WM6.1. Both are great in their respected fields. I think dutty's is the most organized of the two. Speed wise Sleuth is ahead but thats also due to a larger page file.

I think it would be awesome if Dutty made a clean version of 6.1 along with his regular version. I hate having all kinds of extra programs that I'm never use.

Sleuth's 6.1 is at 32MB and it's very fast and responsive. No issues with battery life. I'm on the 2nd full decharge right now. 1st run died at about 452 with bluetooth on in a E area. Dutty's default is 24 if i'm not mistaken. dutty's has the best battery life so far. I'll make a better report when i wake up, 2am here and I need to be in the office at 8. Night all

WM6.1 is soooo laggy

Every wm6.1 rom I flash, have the same result: lag! (I DO a hard reset after each new rom). Tried Dutty's, orginal HTC's, Alex, etc, etc.
Sometimes wm is running smoothly for a while, but most of the time the lag is terrible, sometimes the delay is even more then 5 seconds!
Anyone have the same experience (and more important: anyone who knows how to fix this)?
Very strange... I have not had any issues so far and I have flashed every WM 6.1 rom that has been posted thus far. What radio version are you running with the WM 6.1 builds?
Tried all tree radio's. Never had problems with sound, camera, gps, but every time 'the lag is back'.
Is it possible it has something to do with a combi of pagepool and cache-settings?

Try running Alex's 1.62 AT&T build. That thing is pretty freaking fast Got a great SPB benchmarking score of 436 according to my testing.
Is the 1.62 rom WM6.1?
Can I use an ATT Tilt rom on a non ATT phone (Dutch MDA Vario III Tmobile)? Never tried that, because of all the warnings about ATT and non ATT phones/radio's/etc.

No it is not. But it does have a lot of updated drivers & Bluetooth fixes. Check the official post regarding this.
It was running very smoothly for me, even the non cooked one.
This ROM was actually released on HTC's website as an official update to the Tilts.
I agree, it is so laggy i went to Alex's 6.1 because he does great work but i did notice it was very slow and would lock up most of the time. i tried all the radio's same issue even tried just clearing out my phone thinking it was a program causing a conflict and same issue. i ended up going back to Alex's 6.0ROM and all is good in the hood once again
btw if you real this ALEX you rock
i hope that this is not some "FLUKE" bug that happens to a small amount of people and wont get reviewed by the higher powers as a issue.

Lagging? Are you comparing that lag to original ATT roms or one of Dutty's/Sleuth/cooked roms? compared to dualtouch v4(dutty), ive found some lag as well, but not compared to ATT's, blazing compared to ATT...
If you've try many roms already? Can I ask are you using a task manager?
Tweaks; cooked roms are already tweak to better suit them.
I am using Dutty's 6.1 Official, and I love it to death. I had used his beta and it had a lot of bugs and was laggy so I had to revert back, however his new rom is gorgeous (THANKS DUTTY), it is very smooth and other than not being able to soft reset through the power switch, there is no lag and I am using radio 1.58.26.20
Oh its a tilt
I agree, I tried three 6.1 ROMs including the latest Dutty's ROM which I am currently on... and they all lag...
Also notice a problem when I go to the call logs screen and press the red endkey button to go to the home
thanks for this thread. I was considering flashing, but after this I'll stick to my stock rom till official upgrade. I am on wm6 t-mob uk and after tweaks I cannot see the reason to flash anything else anyway. the device is rock solid and snappy enough.
cheers

stay out of the kitchen...
i dont know why a thread like this is created... utter nonsense if you ask me. ive only noticed all positive changes with wm6.1 with no lag... in fact... my video is exceptionally faster on the newer roms. especially sleuth or duttys. a lot of these chefs pour their heart into these meals... if you cant enjoy them... too bad, cause some of us love what they do and appreciate how much more awesome our devices are with each new build. keep up the good work guys... youre heading in the right direction... there is LESS lag... considerably

I can not agree more. the stock rom I have, WWE Tytn II , equipped with tons and tons of cabs I found here is stable at 99.9 %. Though Dutties Rom gives an almost 1800 VSbenchmark and mine only 1392, I do not complain.
Videoclips lag, though I found out that theyd DO play better when using the "X" bottom before, stopping all open applications.
I am eager to flash, but only when a guaranteed stable and quick cooked 6.1 ROM will offer me further a fuzz-free environment.
EDIT 1: No, I have no lag what so ever.
EDIT 2: I owe a lot of respect for all chefs spending plenty of hours on their work (hobby?) helping this community. I just wait for the one who might have "the ultimate ROM" .Fair no?
(i am playing with the 3D.dll 's further on meawhile hehe)
Keyboard\Screen lag
I promise that lag will be gone if you flash mine
Commercial for myself but I fixed the screen\keyboard lag
My base is latest Vodafone 6.1 ROM.

well, there is a reason why people are complaining: all WM6.1 ROMS (till now) are considerably slower than the recent cooked WM6.0 ROMS.
At least according to "objective" tests like SPB Benchmark and VS Benchmark the WM6.1 still can't catch up the WM6.0's..
So the feeling of lagginess (does this word exist?) is understandable.
But our cooks are working so only a matter of time???.

Compared to wm6 roms. They are really fast, but all wm6.1 roms I tried aren't....

Maybe utter nonsense for your device, so be happy with THAT in stead of putting words in somebodies mouth.... On my device there IS lag... and I DO APPRECIATE THE WORK OF ALL THE CHEFS! Threads like this have the intension of helping people with problems with upgrading.
Having said that.... all others: thanx for the advice sofar. Any suggestions on pagepool & cache settings fixing the lagproblem on some devices are welcome And for all the chefs I'm gonna use the positive words of Michaelr219: keep up the good work!!!
hello again.
sorry if it's going to be an offtop, but after reading Your posts some things have crossed my mind.
back in the days when I was quite happy owner of vario II (wm 5 out of the box) exciting thing have happened. when I was browsing through these forums I've spotted a wm6 rom for my device. that was something. just like jumping from w95 to xp on pc. almost everything seemed to be different. I was using black flavour (best regards jasjamming wherever You are now Mate) with various versions. flashing addiction was quite understandable then, as we were improving our devices A LOT.
now with vario III I am wondering why people are trying hard to fix things that are not broken? I am not bashing anyone's work, I have a lot of love for all the so called cooks for their free contribution, but I don't understand what is this fuss all about.
as I read more and more I learn, that 6.1 is not that great at all. ppl are asking how to switch off threaded sms, pie is still unusable(ish) and now the info that roms are slower than 6.
so can please guy who said to stay out explain to me what's so good with those 6.1 that I cannot have with 6? I am not flaming or whatever, maybe I just lost something while diggin' through all those threads.
I also said, that imo it's not a bad idea to hold on for offcial roms given official way, as they are tend to be more solid and complete.
just my five cents
