the best rom so far - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I've tryed the MB version of WM6 for about 2 1/2 weeks. It was manageble. Quite a bit of tweaking to get it where it needed to be. Anyhow,i felt it was good but i knew i could've used more speed in terms of hopping in & out of programs, apps, etc. Now i have the Xplore version. Xplore version seemed to draw me in due to the the focus on memory. I would like to hear some different opinions on which rom is best. I definitely know this is a matter of opinion but i would really appreciate the insight. If anyone has tried the Faria (real thing) rom and you like it...tell me why...give me some opinions or insight on why. Thanks in advance!

It's pretty hard to say which is the best. Everyone has had different experiences with different roms. I have a G4 wizard and so far Underground has proven itself to be my consistent choice. Few tweaks here and there(what rom don't you have to tweak) but my main issue was battery. Even after using the battery cab for each rom, Underground always gets about two days of battery for me and overclocked at 260. Also, after a long day of using the phone I hold about 20 megs of free space. Again, this has been working for my phone and I can't say everyone will have the same results.

Underground
Having tried them basically all: UNDERGROUND is my best choice
Cheers

i have tried a good bit of crossbow roms....
orwell: ok...had to do a lot of tweaking and to me it wasnt all that stable. first crossbow rom i used...switched back to original wm5 until better roms were released
pdaviet: honestly...i never liked these roms...for me it was too cluttered with applications i didnt need...it was based on orwells with tweaks but still wasnt as stable like i wanted to be.
underground: Just Ok...no major bugs...but the performance wasnt there (even after tweaks) and my phone would hang a bit. free memory was about 22 ~ 25mb.
mb: good rom. quite stable. free memory above 25mb. didnt use it for too much because mun released his rom.
mun's rom: another good rom; ran stable without crashes for weeks. performance was good and free memory was good (about 27 ~ 29MB)
faria real thing and vanilla: both are good roms and were real stable. real thing had apps but i prefer barebones so i can practice cooking. vanilla was good but had some bugs (phone settings issue...i didnt have problems with gsm but i think faria did). vanilla had great free memory (30 ~ 31mb). this is the rom i am practicing cooking on...i am still working on clearing the phone settings issue myself (need more hours in a day man...)
xplore: this is a great rom. cooked for free memory...i have 33mb free on my main phone. i havent notice any big problems except a wifi issue i encountered (wouldnt turn on) but that was cleared after i used the UK 2.19 radio rom (which is great by the way....i know ppl like 2.61 for it reception but i have been missing a lot of calls)
nottosmart vanilla: unfortunately i didnt get to try this but i read that its a good rom.
i really liked mun's, faria's and xplore. it really depends on what your looking for your wizard....mun's was real stable, xplore and faria had free memory above 30mb and were vanilla roms. we owe a lot to these guys for their hard work and there're the reason i started cooking (btw thanks molski for your cooking pack..its awesome). thanks guys.

WM6 on Wizard - current state of play?

Hi All,
I've been soaking up on all the info on the current WM6 ROMs for G3 Wizards - it's a pretty fast changing situation, for obvious reasons.
Given I've got a WM5 "Mr Clean" ROM plus lots of tinkering on my Wizard, is there a bullet-proof, bug free WM6 ROM that I can replace my existing one with - i.e. one that's not really "beta"? If anyone can name a name of one if it exists, or give a list of tweaks needed to get another working 100% (camera, MMS, wifi, etc) then I'd be very interested!
Cheers

Depends how much tinkering and bugs / odd behavior you can live with...
Personally the NotTooSmart Vanilla and Faria "the real thing" are the ones I'd put at the top of the current WM6 class. I haven't tried X-Plore's Chocolate-Vanilla but it comes from the same base as the NotTooSmart one (mUn's aRTM which is also very good but has a few bugs that NotTooSmart fixed in his repackaging and the only reason I don't put it in the first list).
I've went back and forth over the last few days trying to decide for myself if messing with WM6 is worth it due to odd behaviors and such. Overall I'm very happy with it, but when odd things happen I get reminded this is all Beta / Bleeding Edge and definetly not final. Luckily with the Faria and NotTooSmart ones, that doesn't happen often. The big draw for me (beyond just the geek factor of running WM6) is how quick these Roms are. Maybe I've gotten used to WM6, but I don't feel there is that much in new features (just stuff moved around more than anything) and part of why I consider possibly going back to AKU 3.3 (which for the time I had it was definetly more stable than even these latest ones, but that gap has shrunk a lot in the last week).
Hope that helps. Best bet is to dig through the huge threads and dive in if you want to try out and play with WM6. Just take a good backup of your current situation so you can get back to that point if you don't like it. Also remember that you will need to rebuild from scratch as you can't restore from WM5 to Wm6 and expect things to work.

great post. I'm in the same boat. Been using a treo750 but just picked up a 8125 for $79usd from cingy's premier (refurb). Thought I'd load wm6 and have a play and have it for a backup if needed. Seems like the nottoosmart or faria rom's are the most stable at the moment then. Thanks

The Xplore one just came out last night, but the early reviews are all very good it appears, so its worth a look too (supposedly very fast and lots of free RAM, and based off the same mUn rom that the NotTooSmart one came from). I just haven't played with it (not sure if I will or not as its missing apps I use and has stuff I don't use in it so its really not that "vanilla" to me).

Favourite WM6 poll.

Which is your favourite WM6 ROM?
Lets see how many people are using which ROM.
Faria's "The Real Thing!"
Faria "THE REAL THING"
This poll will have invalid results for any one to base which rom to use. As each rom is different and offers its own thing towards different users. Some like packed, some like fast.
Faria great with extra apps
Xplore as bare bones as it gets.
Both kick a$$ and thanks to both for putting in the time to provide us with these ROMs. For that matter thanks to everyone on this board. Very helpful!!
Not on the list, but after running it now a couple of days, my favorite: PDAViet V2

Explore
I vote for Explore, I have a dropped call with Faria.
X-plore as a vanilla ROM.
I've voted Faria (real thing) some time ago.
But I'm now testing X-plore 1.1, just passed 2 hours the performance is good.
Will test the BT in the way home....

I have tested overall all WM6.0 ROM. Still, the winner is NotTooSmart ROM.
Fast and Clean.
MBE is by far the best. Stable, quick and good free space. only I striped some progams out of it, so it's a bit of a Vanilla version.
Look at all the post, almost none about MBE. Look at all the other post of the other ROM.. for mor questions/problems ....
Xplore
I'm using Xplore and I must say it's excellent! I have not had any soft resets for over a week now.I'm not experiencing any memory leaks, battery leaks or whatsoever. I know his thread has over 100 pages and i've gone through all but it hardly contains complaints. A lot of the posts with complaints are about one issue (several complaint posts but only 1 issue) and most are praises for an excellent ROM. Besides, check the poll, the number speaks for themselves. Could also be that MBE thread is small because fewer people use it (less users, less complaints) because they have switched to Xplore

I disagree this on you. look at the last poll which was held.

It is a bit depending on the time some roms are 'released'. Faria and Xplore are the last ones. I do agree that and Faria and Xplore are great, but full of extra application. On that case NTS is also great and lost some extra wight.

MBE was a great rom when I ran it (and had it all tweaked out) but I believe the newer ones (mUn, Xplore, NotTooSmart Vanilla, Faria "the real thing" and Faria Vanilla (its beta right now) are better and work better right after flash than MBE ever did for me (it took a lot of tweaking to get it stable and all). But to be honest, it really depends on what you want and are looking for as they are all really nice in their own ways. So like what was said in the first couple of posts, polls like this don't really mean a lot.
BTW: I may be wrong, but I think a lot of people that voted for MBE in the previous poll have now moved on to the newer ROMs. So again the polls really don't mean much within a few days after they start as most of us tend to flash every week or so when the next rom is released.

Best Rom For HTC Wizard?

I know many of you may think this is based on opinion, but personally I'm new at the scene and just tried Faria's WWE WM6 ROM (the real thing) featured at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762 .
My original reason for installing was cause my 8125's OS started lagging lately for some reason (it would take a few seconds for menus and items to show up instead of being instant). In addition, battery life was HORRIBLE (would die in around 2 days). So I went and downloaded Faria's WWE WM6 ROM (the real thing). Installation was easy, the ROM worked great, my battery life greatly improved (even though I overclocked to 247 with cpuscaling at 143).
Unfortunately, I messed around too much and accidentally killed my phone application , not to mention the OS has started to lag (probably because I installed too many things?).
Either way, I'm looking to download a new ROM. I want something that has all the features of Faria's HTC Wizard Rom (the real thing), and more. I don't care too much about extra space, because frankly I don't need it. I just want something that's fast and feature-packed (and includes everything from Faria's ROM). Any tips or suggestions? Help would really be appreciated, as I've just gone through 3 ROMS that I didn't like. Thanks.
try explore rom it prob more of the lines your looking for
Try this one.

I have tried many different ROM's, I keep going back to this one. It's the most stable for me.
Core 2.0n
For me, the best WM6 rom is the Core 2.0n (based on XPlore 1.0)
Thephone is very fast (boot in 35 seconds), no bugs, working well with TomTom6.
I'm only waiting a full French WM6 rom
for months of WM6.0 use; Faria is the best for stable.
im testing Pandora 1.05 right now.
From all of the ROMs that I have used. I think Faria is the best one. it's very stable.
pfff i think its best for me:
base version of Pandora:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307080
and core 2.0 of coz.
Faria's overloaded imo.
i like reloaded
Faria The Real Thing is most stable for me
soft reset everyday, to remove the slow down due to any memory leaks
and I'm gonna buck the trend here, wm6 is SLOW. use a 2.26 if you want a quick one
two day battery life sounds good some people think one day is good others, several days (but it depends how much you use it).

5.2.1413 fast
Hi,
i have been using Xplore 2.0n and it is great.
Its near Full Vanilla, but it supports AD2P and most of the basics.
The new 5.2.1413 build is FAAASSTTT, and there are FULL VANILLA releases, nevertheless, i was unable to set AD2P.
If there is a fix for ad2p, i will surely switch to 5.2.1413 because it is way way faster than Xplore 2.0n

Faria's WWE WM6 Rom ?

The ROM Kitchen is the newer version of Faria's rom, and its vanilla, but you can add stuff into it. My Crossbow Reloaded (link below) is a cooked version of this rom with stuff added to it and a few fixes I put into it.

Whose ROM are you using and why?

SORRY I LEFT OUT Q-MOBILE! If you're using it or another unlisted custom ROM, just choose "other" and then post below to specify which ROM you're using.
In fact, even if you choose a specific "chef," please specify WHICH version/variation you're using and WHY.
I'm currently on Dutty #6 - tried #7, but I didn't find it quite as good. Waiting for 8! I might try other people's ROMs at some point, but that's partly why I asked this question - I want to know whose ROMs are most popular and why. Fast? Stable? Clean? Useful?
Dutty's Rom
I am using Dutty's Tilt Rom...uh on my tilt. It seems very stable and I have a bunch of apps running. It's been about 2 weeks and so far so good.
The only problem with loading one of dutty's rom's is that he never sleeps so you get addicted to flashing your Kaiser.: eek:

I've got to agree with you... I'm addicted now. But which version are you using?
I'm using Dutty's latest No. 7. For me, his ROMs have been very stable and fast.
XDA Live v1.2. I like the design goal of maximizing storage space and only installing what I want. It's almost like cooking my own rom, but much easier.
I'm using Dutty's No. 6 Lite HTC ROM.
I always want to have a clean, fast and stable ROM. I was running CUSTEL v2.1 first, but decided to turn to Dutty's ROMs because he has LOTS of updates! (I like flashing )
Maybe (if possible) you should add Q-Mobile ROM to the poll! I looks like an interesting ROM.

Dangit - won't let me change it. I just noticed that myself. I guess people will have to choose "other" and type it in. I'd hate to start the poll over. :-/ Can a mod step in and help out?
Sorry Q!!!
Dutty's ATT touchflow ROM.
Full featured, has many of the extras already built in, minus that AT&T bloat crap. It runs very well for me.

No problem, besides...having just posted it last night the adoption rate would take a while anyway--and thats assuming people like it.
Was using Dutty's Tilt-Touchflo Beta but I ran into some issues and now I'm trying out Q's. Looks good so far, fast, stable.
XDA-Live 1.2 for me. It's very stable, everything works like it's supposed to, and I like how streamlined and fast it is. I wanted an ATT Tilt specific ROM, and of those choices, this one works the smoothest. I like to be able to customize what apps are on there too.

Agreed. This is my current cooked ROM of choice after using 5 superb ROMS. Check it out. Simple, lightweight, fast and stable (for at least a full day of use)
Hat's off to all the chefs!
Currently using Dutty Touchflo 2 final non tilt edition on my tilt..... its the best for me till now... gave the no. 6 touchflo rom a try, but it was severely crippling my Tilt with random occasional freezing.... I am very happy with Touchflo 2.... its uber-fast and I simply love its freaky-fast responsiveness.....
i am using Helmi_C since day one, tried different ROM but i ended up going back, it's old, but it's quick, fast and big storage! most of all, it's quite stable and no problem whatsoever!

I should have agreed with you a few weeks ago. Helmi_c had a very nice and stable ROM for a long time.
I've used Dutty's ROMs and CUSTEL ROMS but I still think Helmi_C had the best ROM for a long time.
Today I flashed Q-Mobile 1.0 ROM and I gives me the "Helmi_C" feeling!
It's clean, fast and seems to be stable! I think I'll stick with this one. (At least for a couple of days )
XDA Live 1.2
So far so good with this ROM. I didn't want to screw around with a non-at&t variant because I'm a noob. I loaded some SPB software and iGO for GPS and it's running great. There's loads of storage available since the ROM is smaller.
As far as stability goes, it works well enough when I reset every couple of days. Sometimes there are random freezes when it is unresponsive but these have gone down a bit since I figured out installing everything to the device works best. I had one SOD a couple nights ago when screwing around with finger-friendly friends but only that once. For now I am just going to use the stock contact supplemented with SPB contacts on Today.
The reason I plan on sticking with this ROM is that I figure Kyphur has a good chance of getting it completely stable easier than a ROM with a bunch of programs. It's already blazing fast and the radio version works well for me so far.
Q-Mobile 1.0 here - I've tried every rom, and each has its own strengths and weaknesses. Q-Mobile just seems to fit nicely in with what I expect the device to do, and how I think it should look. Fast, stable, no bugs that I've found, and a nice set of default apps.
I hate to reply to this one since it should be up to you to read up on it and try it out. But then again you want instant gratification so here DUTTY's rom no.6 or later. Why? Because no one else has put forth more time and effort into releasing these roms than he has and not to leave out his beta tester community too.
I'm not sure what it is, but I got that weird freezing on every rom I tried out. Right now, I'm using Alex cook your own rom and that is causing freezing, too. Any roms out there that don't have that freezing problem? I think its a normal thing cause the base rom.

WM6.1 is soooo laggy

Every wm6.1 rom I flash, have the same result: lag! (I DO a hard reset after each new rom). Tried Dutty's, orginal HTC's, Alex, etc, etc.
Sometimes wm is running smoothly for a while, but most of the time the lag is terrible, sometimes the delay is even more then 5 seconds!
Anyone have the same experience (and more important: anyone who knows how to fix this)?
Very strange... I have not had any issues so far and I have flashed every WM 6.1 rom that has been posted thus far. What radio version are you running with the WM 6.1 builds?
Tried all tree radio's. Never had problems with sound, camera, gps, but every time 'the lag is back'.
Is it possible it has something to do with a combi of pagepool and cache-settings?

Try running Alex's 1.62 AT&T build. That thing is pretty freaking fast Got a great SPB benchmarking score of 436 according to my testing.
Is the 1.62 rom WM6.1?
Can I use an ATT Tilt rom on a non ATT phone (Dutch MDA Vario III Tmobile)? Never tried that, because of all the warnings about ATT and non ATT phones/radio's/etc.

No it is not. But it does have a lot of updated drivers & Bluetooth fixes. Check the official post regarding this.
It was running very smoothly for me, even the non cooked one.
This ROM was actually released on HTC's website as an official update to the Tilts.
I agree, it is so laggy i went to Alex's 6.1 because he does great work but i did notice it was very slow and would lock up most of the time. i tried all the radio's same issue even tried just clearing out my phone thinking it was a program causing a conflict and same issue. i ended up going back to Alex's 6.0ROM and all is good in the hood once again
btw if you real this ALEX you rock
i hope that this is not some "FLUKE" bug that happens to a small amount of people and wont get reviewed by the higher powers as a issue.

Lagging? Are you comparing that lag to original ATT roms or one of Dutty's/Sleuth/cooked roms? compared to dualtouch v4(dutty), ive found some lag as well, but not compared to ATT's, blazing compared to ATT...
If you've try many roms already? Can I ask are you using a task manager?
Tweaks; cooked roms are already tweak to better suit them.
I am using Dutty's 6.1 Official, and I love it to death. I had used his beta and it had a lot of bugs and was laggy so I had to revert back, however his new rom is gorgeous (THANKS DUTTY), it is very smooth and other than not being able to soft reset through the power switch, there is no lag and I am using radio 1.58.26.20
Oh its a tilt
I agree, I tried three 6.1 ROMs including the latest Dutty's ROM which I am currently on... and they all lag...
Also notice a problem when I go to the call logs screen and press the red endkey button to go to the home
thanks for this thread. I was considering flashing, but after this I'll stick to my stock rom till official upgrade. I am on wm6 t-mob uk and after tweaks I cannot see the reason to flash anything else anyway. the device is rock solid and snappy enough.
cheers
bro
stay out of the kitchen...
i dont know why a thread like this is created... utter nonsense if you ask me. ive only noticed all positive changes with wm6.1 with no lag... in fact... my video is exceptionally faster on the newer roms. especially sleuth or duttys. a lot of these chefs pour their heart into these meals... if you cant enjoy them... too bad, cause some of us love what they do and appreciate how much more awesome our devices are with each new build. keep up the good work guys... youre heading in the right direction... there is LESS lag... considerably

I can not agree more. the stock rom I have, WWE Tytn II , equipped with tons and tons of cabs I found here is stable at 99.9 %. Though Dutties Rom gives an almost 1800 VSbenchmark and mine only 1392, I do not complain.
Videoclips lag, though I found out that theyd DO play better when using the "X" bottom before, stopping all open applications.
I am eager to flash, but only when a guaranteed stable and quick cooked 6.1 ROM will offer me further a fuzz-free environment.
EDIT 1: No, I have no lag what so ever.
EDIT 2: I owe a lot of respect for all chefs spending plenty of hours on their work (hobby?) helping this community. I just wait for the one who might have "the ultimate ROM" .Fair no?
(i am playing with the 3D.dll 's further on meawhile hehe)
Keyboard\Screen lag
I promise that lag will be gone if you flash mine
Commercial for myself but I fixed the screen\keyboard lag
My base is latest Vodafone 6.1 ROM.

i dont know why a thread like this is created... utter nonsense if you ask me. ive only noticed all positive changes with wm6.1 with no lag... in fact... my video is exceptionally faster on the newer roms. especially sleuth or duttys. a lot of these chefs pour their heart into these meals... if you cant enjoy them... too bad, cause some of us love what they do and appreciate how much more awesome our devices are with each new build. keep up the good work guys... youre heading in the right direction... there is LESS lag... considerably

well, there is a reason why people are complaining: all WM6.1 ROMS (till now) are considerably slower than the recent cooked WM6.0 ROMS.
At least according to "objective" tests like SPB Benchmark and VS Benchmark the WM6.1 still can't catch up the WM6.0's..
So the feeling of lagginess (does this word exist?) is understandable.
But our cooks are working so only a matter of time???.

Lagging? Are you comparing that lag to original ATT roms or one of Dutty's/Sleuth/cooked roms? compared to dualtouch v4(dutty), ive found some lag as well, but not compared to ATT's, blazing compared to ATT...

Compared to wm6 roms. They are really fast, but all wm6.1 roms I tried aren't....

Maybe utter nonsense for your device, so be happy with THAT in stead of putting words in somebodies mouth.... On my device there IS lag... and I DO APPRECIATE THE WORK OF ALL THE CHEFS! Threads like this have the intension of helping people with problems with upgrading.
Having said that.... all others: thanx for the advice sofar. Any suggestions on pagepool & cache settings fixing the lagproblem on some devices are welcome And for all the chefs I'm gonna use the positive words of Michaelr219: keep up the good work!!!
hello again.
sorry if it's going to be an offtop, but after reading Your posts some things have crossed my mind.
back in the days when I was quite happy owner of vario II (wm 5 out of the box) exciting thing have happened. when I was browsing through these forums I've spotted a wm6 rom for my device. that was something. just like jumping from w95 to xp on pc. almost everything seemed to be different. I was using black flavour (best regards jasjamming wherever You are now Mate) with various versions. flashing addiction was quite understandable then, as we were improving our devices A LOT.
now with vario III I am wondering why people are trying hard to fix things that are not broken? I am not bashing anyone's work, I have a lot of love for all the so called cooks for their free contribution, but I don't understand what is this fuss all about.
as I read more and more I learn, that 6.1 is not that great at all. ppl are asking how to switch off threaded sms, pie is still unusable(ish) and now the info that roms are slower than 6.
so can please guy who said to stay out explain to me what's so good with those 6.1 that I cannot have with 6? I am not flaming or whatever, maybe I just lost something while diggin' through all those threads.
I also said, that imo it's not a bad idea to hold on for offcial roms given official way, as they are tend to be more solid and complete.
just my five cents
