WM6.5 'buttons' in manilla 2d? - General Questions and Answers

I've been flicking through roms, and settled on a manilla 2D one. It's wm6.5, but it lacks the nice big 'start' and 'close' buttons on the bottom of the screen, instead they're being all default and sitting at the top. Is there any app or anything to change that? Also, I don't have the useful slider unlocker, is there an app for that?
Thanks!!

Thats nothing to do with Manila 2D, thats just a shell created by HTC to improve WM6.5's limited functions. It's the version of windows mobile, you'd need 6.5.3 or above for those buttons.

I know its not anything to do with Manilla, but I coulda sworn this rom was above 6.5.3. It's not a registry option or anything?

I dont think so mate, what rom is it?

Can Manila be installed from a cab?

and what is the difference between 2d and 3d manila?
L26 had a rom called Throttle Launcher. It seems alot like the Manila but it was able to be customized ALOT. I'd like a LITTLE more modification ability. Like, adding to the internet tab, changing the default analog clock to something like Pocket Digital Clock, getting rid of the envelops on the Email and Messaging Tab.
Plain Rom Question:
What ROM is the most PLAIN broken down copy of win mo 6.1?
at&t? htc? Like NOTHING!! except the OS.. I'll install my own cabs.
User Customize question:
do the cabs have to be on top most folder level or can they be in a sub folder called "root"?
you can install from cabs you need to look that up it is everywhere.
roms stripped to the core are usually called lite roms or ultra lite roms.
throttle launcher was a program used to emulate 3d with is the real version that 2d was derived from (it was used before porting manilla 2d to other htc phone and now more than just htc phones)
throttle is really heavy and slow.
manilla can be customized. again look it up.
you will need manilla 2d if you have a kaiser.
Take a stripped ROM and have plain Manilla 2d without Throttle so you may have some better performance.

Carty..
This is for manilla: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173
and this is for akdonny's supa-clean ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410601
Allways the latest OS Build and no apps, not even the camera. If u go for it, have a look at my setup for setting it up, especially if u have a Kaiser not a Tilt.

Have any of you completely ditched Touch Flo in favor of any other software?

I totally love touch flo but I am not sold that it is anything but eye candy and that other software overlays for WM6.1 might be better.
I was curious if there are people out there who have jettisoned touchflo in favor of something else, and what is that else?
Thanks for your opinions, input and software suggestions.
i go back and forth between wad and manilla
I googled WAD and was soured by what Google thinks I was referencing. )
What are you referencing? Manilla is TouchFlo right, but where does hte manilla come from? What is WAD?
WAD is Wisbar Advance Desktop, here you go:
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/products/pocketpc/WisBarAdvanceDesktop/
There are a lot of nice skins for WAD.
ufufu got it for you
yes manilla is "touch flo"
manilla comes from htc but has been reverse engineered by some developers on xda.

i added wad to pda V10 and cant get it to work.. i disabled tf in today but wad still wont display weather etc..
its just a black screen
i really like the look of what wad is supposed to be..
any help is greatly appreciated
thanx
i see it the same way.. Manila2D/TF3D is good only for having your PDA look cool. it's not as useful as a PDA could get.
I set my UltimateLaunch to be as useful as i could using FEWidgets/Makecall (for speed dialing)/Rumball's weather/some internet icons and a networking plugin... and so forth.
..
How do you feel wisbar advanced desktop comapres to SPB pocket plus, do you have any experience?
Glad to hear I am not alone with tf3d not being the ultimate in work horses, I will look into ultimate launch.
by blank screen does it actually look like a blank screen, or does it look like there is nothing on your today screen. wisbar has to be completely designed by hand, or you have to download a theme file.
go here for a theme and tutorial i have put together.......

I have the same question and thoughts - perhaps WAD or SPB mobile shell would be a better fit b/c of the greater potential for customization. Can anyone comment on the memory usage / responsiveness between tf2d and WAD or tf2d and SPB mobile shell?
the opposite here. i used to have ultimateLaunch, but when Manila (TF3D) was born, ditched UL and now I am a happy manila user... love the changing themes every now and then, and everything else that comes with it, e.g. great graphics (rain animation is nice) and the close to no maintenance. manila is a little less flexibile the UL, but, pros overcome cons, for me at least.

Increase TouchFLO font size

Is it possible to increase the preview text of SMS on the TouchFLO interface. I jst got a Fuze aka Touch Pro and I'm having a hard time seeing the preview SMS.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Not 100% sure if this'll work on anything but a diamond, but if the fuze is TF3D, try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437420
If 2D, then mosey on over to the Development and Hacking forum and pick up Manila 2D Customizer.
Can't remember right off the top of my head.
Of course, I don't even know if the 3D customizer will let you change font sizes, but it's worth a shot. I know the M2DC will let you in the newest version. But if the Fuze is 3D, that won't help you much.
Figured i'd toss the idea in there though.

What's the difference between WM 6.1 6.5 For TouchFlo Users.

Does anyone know, or think they know what will be the differences in these two operating systems installed on a HTC device. We see from pictures that the UI in 6.5 has something like a zune type thing, then that hexagon pattern. But for most 6.1 users they don't really have to leave Touch Flo. In fact, HTC even redesigned the calendar on the TP2. So what does everyone think?
If you're using manila, the most obvious difference will be the start menu. Also, 6.5 has a native finger scrolling which is better than the htc scrolling in 6.1. Newer builds have improved task and soft key bars and some different menu enhancements. Also, 6.5 has a more advanced virtual memory model than 6.1; this may well be the biggest advancement, although it's very much 'under the hood'. You only get it on the newer devices that have native 6.5 kernels available.

Well if it has enhanced virtual memory It should run faster, no? When I played with the 6.1 in the tmobile store, it was fast. My touch diamond is pretty slow. I wonder what HTC is going to do for 6.5. I heard they sent out test roms to sprint. for the tp2 udpate has anyone tried it?
i cant see no difference in start menu... my touch pro2 uses manila start menu.. not WM's...
this is a good thread to discuss.. i dont have any strong reason for me to change to wm6.5 ... the future manila will use fully manila skinned even in 'All Settings' menu.. i just hope wm6.5 can improve the background graphic on PPC with integrated supported drivers.. it just my imagination

[Q] How do I modify start menu and buttons??

Hello!
I'm a HD2 user (Manila 2.5.2018, ROM 3.14.412.2). I've tried some cooked roms and I didn't find one that feels the way I like, that is pretty close to stock roms. The other problem is that I've experienced a lot of problems with cooked roms. I don't know if is because of my carrier or what, but with any cooked rom I have to reboot at least 3 times a day. So finally I decided to upgrade my HTC to a stock rom.
But testing here and there, I've found something in cooked roms that is terrific!
Start menu is in the bottom and the two buttons (in my phone are "Phone" and "Menu") where buttons and not just text. I've attached two images: One of my homescreen as it is and the other with the wished structure.
Is there an application that does this?
Thanks in advance!
PS. Forgive my english, please!!
StartMenu in the bottom means your SYS is WM6.5.X. Top ones are just WM6.5.
Phone button is part of Sense. They can be changed by the following reg keys. Menu, you cant do anything with it. It is hard-coded in Sense.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila]
"HomeLSKPath"="windows\\cprog.exe"
"HomeLSKText"="Phone"
if you enjoy the stock feel, you should try Dutty's ROM or Artemis. they come with the big buttons in the bottom

I'll try this. Thanks a lot!!!
Your stock ROM is indeed Windows Mobile 6.5 with start menu at top left in taskbar. Cooked ROMs are mostly Windows Mobile 6.5.3 or 6.5.5 which now have the Start Menu button bottom left in the Softkey bar, so you can't achieve exactly what you are looking for just with registry edits (although you can reassign the two big softkeys to pretty much anything. If you want the Start Menu access in the middle of the bottom bar as you show then I'd recommend installing Cookies Home Tab 2.0 and enabling CHT Softkeys as this allows you to achieve exactly what you're after. You can have up to five custom softkeys doing pretty much anything you want, plus you can really easily skin them to get exactly the look you want. CHT 2.0 will install and work fine on a stock ROM, plus it gives you as much (or as little) customisation as you want in your home screen(s).
