Hello!
I'm a HD2 user (Manila 2.5.2018, ROM 3.14.412.2). I've tried some cooked roms and I didn't find one that feels the way I like, that is pretty close to stock roms. The other problem is that I've experienced a lot of problems with cooked roms. I don't know if is because of my carrier or what, but with any cooked rom I have to reboot at least 3 times a day. So finally I decided to upgrade my HTC to a stock rom.
But testing here and there, I've found something in cooked roms that is terrific!
Start menu is in the bottom and the two buttons (in my phone are "Phone" and "Menu") where buttons and not just text. I've attached two images: One of my homescreen as it is and the other with the wished structure.
Is there an application that does this?
Thanks in advance!
PS. Forgive my english, please!!
StartMenu in the bottom means your SYS is WM6.5.X. Top ones are just WM6.5.
Phone button is part of Sense. They can be changed by the following reg keys. Menu, you cant do anything with it. It is hard-coded in Sense.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila]
"HomeLSKPath"="windows\\cprog.exe"
"HomeLSKText"="Phone"
if you enjoy the stock feel, you should try Dutty's ROM or Artemis. they come with the big buttons in the bottom

I'll try this. Thanks a lot!!!
Your stock ROM is indeed Windows Mobile 6.5 with start menu at top left in taskbar. Cooked ROMs are mostly Windows Mobile 6.5.3 or 6.5.5 which now have the Start Menu button bottom left in the Softkey bar, so you can't achieve exactly what you are looking for just with registry edits (although you can reassign the two big softkeys to pretty much anything. If you want the Start Menu access in the middle of the bottom bar as you show then I'd recommend installing Cookies Home Tab 2.0 and enabling CHT Softkeys as this allows you to achieve exactly what you're after. You can have up to five custom softkeys doing pretty much anything you want, plus you can really easily skin them to get exactly the look you want. CHT 2.0 will install and work fine on a stock ROM, plus it gives you as much (or as little) customisation as you want in your home screen(s).

Hi all.
How can I achieve this? I want my Topaz with WM 6.5 have the same behavior with start as it was with 6.1.
only way i know of doing that is by installing quick menu. http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-quickmenu-v2-7.html
Well the start menu was redesigned.
Manila has it's own special start menu that is opened by tapping in the top left corner (where the Start button was). It is very similar to QuickMenu.
The good thing about the stock start menu is it is highly customizable. If you search the threads you can find start menus that contain 2 rows... and even 1 row (list) similar to Quick Menu... but without any third party apps.
I wouldn't be too quick to avoid the WM6.5 start menu because it is something you'll have to eventually get used to. I would recommend you get familiar with it and start looking up some of the tweaks to get it to where you want.
I am not finding this manilla start menu. Just the regular windows mobile start menu.
I am using htc sense. When i click the left i get the regular start menu.

If you are using Sense 2.1 (stock WM6.5) then you can use this:

Hey guys,
I was wondering, is there anyone who would be able to look into porting the Manila 2.1 start menu/program tab or both over to Manila 2.5?
I have seem something similar done for the VGA port of Manila 2.5 here (the files are attached at the bottom).
There is also an interesting comment about said tab here
Is there anyone would could maybe try to get this program tab for work for WVGA Manila 2.5?
And also maybe get the start menu working?
Hope someone can do it
Any of the geniuses on here keen to give it a shot? ^^
I had the same problem and was finding it difficult to get easy acess to all my programs without the programs tab, plus i do not like my home screen cluttered. I installed a program called Panoramic Launchpad and it is brilliant. When installed, it launches itself from the topbar start menu and gives you loads of options to configure it how you want it, and since going to the settings tab takes you to the original installed start menu icons, then you have not lost or compromised any of you functionality. grat progam and cheap too

I did see that program yes. It looks nice, but I thought it might be worth a shot to see if anyone here could have a go at getting the Manila 2.1 menu to work on Manila 2.5.
There are a lot of people around with coding/hacking skills to possibly get this to work I feel. I doubt it would be THAT hard to do (sadly, I can't do it, as I can't program at all, more of a hardware person).
Given the program a try. Seems to be ok. But I must admit, the Manila 2.1 start menu/program tab, whatever works, would be a lot better I think.
wm start menu simply sucks, I hate it! i hope somebody can cook the old manila 2.1 start menu.
Hi, on Wm6.5 roms for the touch HD you can press and hold on the start menu items an move them arround but in the HD2 you can only send them to top. Thats is a really ugly to reorder lots of icons.
I think there must be a key in the registry to set this behaviour but cant find it.
Someone knows it?
PD: Someone sugested a program called "JWMD Icon Changer V1.9 beta" to change the order of the start menu items, but i want the easy press and hold way
I will have both HD and HD2 for a few days only so I can compare registry values on both but dont know where exactly to look at.
It's not quite as simple as a single registry key. Whatever build you were running was either a 6.5.x build (start button on the bottom bar) or had some 6.5.x portions built in. That feature only started appearing in the 2303x builds, and is probably a pretty low level change. Meanwhile, the HD2 does not run one of those special builds of 6.5, so I'd say that until cooked ROMs come to the HD2, there's not much you can do besides use that program.
Damn! you're right. my HD got a 23xxx build from Dutty and the HD2 got an extremely old build
Well let's wait for cooked rom then
Thanks
Hi. I'm using Vico's 6.5.5 Rom but I really miss the taskbar options that Wisbar advance used to give me (like showing what apps were running). I've tried the Beta 5 version of WB but it doesn't work with WM 6.5.5.
Does anyone know of a similar taskbar replacement that will work with this ROM, or a way to disable that annoying drop down finger menu in WM 6.5.5 that pops down every time you click the taskbar?
Phil.
I use quickmenu for that. A menu that displays your running programs and gives a option to close them individual or all at once.
QuickMenu V2.8.410.1610.CAB from this topic
You can place the Q button in the middle of the screen.
Woks very well on this 6.5.5 rom.
Oh, and disable the battery icon or you will be having two of them.
Do you want a program that shows running programs in the top bar? (the one were the clock is)?

Yeah, and also a way to modilfy the top bar and its po-out/drop-down curtain finger friendly thing (which I'd rather do without to be honest)

I'm giving this a try at the moment, thanks to your suggestion. It does give me some of the funtionality I'm looking for but it's not as nice as WA IMO.
Hey
Noticed around the forum people have got the start menu at the bottom of the screen where contacts and menu appear on the home tab
to be thats better and thats where the start menu is on a computer. . is there a cad or a way to move to start icon to the bottom?? im using a custom taskbar so i think maybe that might cause a problem with such process. . .
finally does anyone know of a collection of custom slider icons to use with HDwall??
thanking you!!!
How far i know.
Startbutton on top left its Windows mobile 6.5
Startbutton on bottom left is windows mobile 6.5.x
for changing from top to bottom you muster flash a new ROM at your device.
the start icon on the bottom is a rom thing. stock (wm6.5) is upper left. custom (wm6.5.x) is bottom left. don't know of a way to move it without changing your rom (to have it be functional at least.)
cheers.
To get the start menu at the bottom, you need to install a custom ROM which is based on Windows Mobile 6.5.x.
The stock ROMs are still using the "older" version.
You can differ them through the build number: 21xxx is "older", 23xxx/28xxx are the newer builds.
You can use any slider icons together with HDWall as they won´t be shown in a better resolution anyway.
Ok.......You are running the older 6.5 which has the icon at the top. You would need to load a custom ROM that is running 6.5.X ( x being either 3 or 5) which would be the newer Windows version. It is not as stable as the older version because it has been pieced together for the most part. But it being newer it has more functionality then the older version. NO you can not use a cab to load it.
As for you sliders HDWall is a program to make your own sliders and backgrounds. If you are looking for sliders that have already been made that can just be installed. Search there are plenty of ongoing threads.
I wonder, how many more people will be explaining the issue
