Anyone using a Wisbar type taskbar with WM 6.5? - Advantage X7510 General

Hi. I'm using Vico's 6.5.5 Rom but I really miss the taskbar options that Wisbar advance used to give me (like showing what apps were running). I've tried the Beta 5 version of WB but it doesn't work with WM 6.5.5.
Does anyone know of a similar taskbar replacement that will work with this ROM, or a way to disable that annoying drop down finger menu in WM 6.5.5 that pops down every time you click the taskbar?
Phil.

I use quickmenu for that. A menu that displays your running programs and gives a option to close them individual or all at once.

You can place the Q button in the middle of the screen.
Woks very well on this 6.5.5 rom.
Oh, and disable the battery icon or you will be having two of them.

Do you want a program that shows running programs in the top bar? (the one were the clock is)?

Yeah, and also a way to modilfy the top bar and its po-out/drop-down curtain finger friendly thing (which I'd rather do without to be honest)

I'm giving this a try at the moment, thanks to your suggestion. It does give me some of the funtionality I'm looking for but it's not as nice as WA IMO.

A good TaskManager for WM6.5

Guy's,
Since WkTask task manager is not updated for a long time and is not perorming well on WM6.5 platform.
Please suggest some of good alternatives, it will help to get the right task manager for future (WM6.5) builds.
Cheers
QuickMenu
I have always used QuickMenu. Before anyone says anything - I don't replace the main Start Menu, but use it with it. (Make sure 'Replace system's start-menu is unticked). Also in the 'Menu Items', I only have 'Running Tasks', 'QuickMneu' and 'Programs'. The latter I set to Custom folders, which simply contains 'New SMS' and 'H-V Switch'.
The reason why I use it, is because it doesn't hide the text of the toolbar, which is important for some programs I run (eg, it displays how many characters used/left in an SMS message). And if I want to switch tasks, I simply click on the StartMenu logo. The normal StartMenu is simply obtained by pressing next to it (see attach #1).
You see, it's all in the way you set it up.
attach #2 and #3 show what happens when you click on StartMenu logo. You can then go to (or close) any task task you wish. You can even close all other tasks (except the one you've got at the front). You can add your own programs.
If you really want, it can replace the main StartMenu, but I tend not to like this.

Quickmenu is handy indeed but it is finger/thumb -hostile. The fastest ever is aebutton plus task manager. It is not free unfortunately.
If you want finger friendly, howabout WKTaskSwitcher which thingonaspring used in his ROM? or is that just a wkTask variant? It was launched via the light button, and then I think you just chose your app (from a selection of icons on the screen).
(I must admit, though, that I didn't prefer it myself ).
Weird, WkTask works perfectly on my WM6.5

QuickMenu is just as finger friendly as the Start Menu!
darfri, just wondering if you have a Uni - it's the first time I've seen you on this part of the site, and there's not one in your signature?

Well, wktask has issue with image transparency, it simply can't handle new styled taskbar under wm65.
QM has no issue with that but it is making conflict with honeycomb. Only htc task manager performed well on all these aspects but its memory footprint is non-tolerable.
Anyway, I'll use htc if no better alternative is discovered.

No I do not have uni. I am using an rss reader to catch up with the xda and read all the new threads. That is how I happen to be here. I think this is not an uni-only problem btw (the wktask slowness ofcourse might be more device specific).
What abou PBar?

I used it when no task manager was available in the ROM.

What is the eccentricity of that wktask mod btw? I also use wktask and would like to tweak it too

Good process manager + other questions for WM 6.5

Hi all,
Today I've upgrade my Asus P552 from WM6.1 to WM6.5.
first, my process manager ( Magic Button 2.1) is not compatible with WM 6.5
wich one do you suggest? I don't need a lot of features, but he must be always present in the title bar to simply quit an application, and he must be light.
Then, a rss reader call newstation is include in WM 6.5; it works with rss feeds, but it freeze when I try to add an atom feed, is there anything I can do to fix it?
Thanks.
ps: excuse my bad english, I'm not a native speaker.
I'm using Magic Button 2.1 on my Fuze with a 6.5 rom (23016). It works fine. You need to set the start menu and cprog to 'stay alive' and 'not show when active,' but otherwise, it works fine for me. Well, occasionally it will kill the start menu, particularly if I hit the x button when in the Settings panel. I haven't figured out how to re-start the menu without resettings, but I can use voice command to start anything if needed.
Are you sure it won't work on your phone? I really like it. If not, I'd recommend DotFred's Task Manager. If so, I'd still recommend using DF's TM-it's a great app.
Hi, thanks for reply.
In fact, it work, but as you can see, I've got display issues when I use it (look at the title bar and the button):
do you encounter the same problem? I'll try the others programs you suggest.
Yeah, the button obscures the battery meter and a little bit of the start menu 'S' shows. My advice? Don't look @ the battery meter. It's too good of an app to junk because of the overlay.

Easy way to rearrange start menu icons

I know that its possible by changing the location in the registry.
but is there an easier visual way for doing that?
regards
It would be nice if there is an app to modify the order of the icons. Text based (identified by app name) is acceptable.

The new 6.5.3 ROMs let you drag and drop...
There is a great utility JWMD Apps.. You can change icons and arrange short cuts in folders to your priority. Search in the forum and you will find it

In the hd2 roms forum, I am using Miri's 6.5.x ver. 1.4 rom. Some small bugs (overlapping keypad icon at the bottom in the dialer etc.) but works very well and fast.

How to get rid of the topbar clock (WM 6.5.x)

sorry to bother you all, the question maybe looks stupid, but I haven't found an answer anywhere.
I'd like not to install cabs or stuff like that......... I'm quite sure that it might be done tricking some regkeys, is anybody aware about it?
Thanks
Was looking for that answer too, because we already have the big clock of manilla so there's no use of having the clock in the topbar. Don't know how to do it also.
there use to be an option to turn it off when i had my old omnia but cant find that these days
was thinkin about that 4 weeks now.. what u can do is 2 use the battclock programm and place something diffrent over it , thats what im doing @ the moment hope someone is bringing a cab 4 it soon ..
Any hint?
i believe hdtweak program would allow you to do that. not sure if it would work with this device.
Hello,
In WM 6.5.x I don't know, but in 6.5, in settings, all setings, Clock & Alarms, More, there is a choice to display or not the clock. Hope it helps !
No sir, with WM 6.5.x you don't hve any chance to change the toolbar. I've been messing round for hours in these forums without getting anything...... I'm quite sure it can be modifed only via regkeys........ who knows???
It utterly, absolutely and definitively cannot be disabled in 6.5.x ROMs at this time. I'm genuinely surprised you haven't found this while searching as it has been answered many times before.
Setting -> All Setting -> Clock & Alarms.
'More' tab Untick the 'Display the clock on the title bar in all programs'
That worked fine on my stock 1.66 WWE ROM.
just use battclock then , u can even put a blank colored space over it ..or an image2match ur taskbar ...

I suspect you don't have a 6.5.x ROM then. The 6.5.x series have the Start Menu button at the bottom, rather than the top.

Sorry sir, I don't want to stir things up, but I think what you're saying isn't true
Have you ever wondered why some cooked topbars (showing either colored icons or different types of them) don't show the clock sometimes?
This is likely to mean that topbar clock is a customizable feature, isn't it?
Nothing is absolutely impossible, no wonder some cooks did it.
Cheers

[Q] How do I modify start menu and buttons??

Hello!
I'm a HD2 user (Manila 2.5.2018, ROM 3.14.412.2). I've tried some cooked roms and I didn't find one that feels the way I like, that is pretty close to stock roms. The other problem is that I've experienced a lot of problems with cooked roms. I don't know if is because of my carrier or what, but with any cooked rom I have to reboot at least 3 times a day. So finally I decided to upgrade my HTC to a stock rom.
But testing here and there, I've found something in cooked roms that is terrific!
Start menu is in the bottom and the two buttons (in my phone are "Phone" and "Menu") where buttons and not just text. I've attached two images: One of my homescreen as it is and the other with the wished structure.
Is there an application that does this?
Thanks in advance!
PS. Forgive my english, please!!
StartMenu in the bottom means your SYS is WM6.5.X. Top ones are just WM6.5.
Phone button is part of Sense. They can be changed by the following reg keys. Menu, you cant do anything with it. It is hard-coded in Sense.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila]
"HomeLSKPath"="windows\\cprog.exe"
"HomeLSKText"="Phone"
if you enjoy the stock feel, you should try Dutty's ROM or Artemis. they come with the big buttons in the bottom

I'll try this. Thanks a lot!!!
Your stock ROM is indeed Windows Mobile 6.5 with start menu at top left in taskbar. Cooked ROMs are mostly Windows Mobile 6.5.3 or 6.5.5 which now have the Start Menu button bottom left in the Softkey bar, so you can't achieve exactly what you are looking for just with registry edits (although you can reassign the two big softkeys to pretty much anything. If you want the Start Menu access in the middle of the bottom bar as you show then I'd recommend installing Cookies Home Tab 2.0 and enabling CHT Softkeys as this allows you to achieve exactly what you're after. You can have up to five custom softkeys doing pretty much anything you want, plus you can really easily skin them to get exactly the look you want. CHT 2.0 will install and work fine on a stock ROM, plus it gives you as much (or as little) customisation as you want in your home screen(s).
