What's the difference between WM 6.1 6.5 For TouchFlo Users. - General Topics

Does anyone know, or think they know what will be the differences in these two operating systems installed on a HTC device. We see from pictures that the UI in 6.5 has something like a zune type thing, then that hexagon pattern. But for most 6.1 users they don't really have to leave Touch Flo. In fact, HTC even redesigned the calendar on the TP2. So what does everyone think?

If you're using manila, the most obvious difference will be the start menu. Also, 6.5 has a native finger scrolling which is better than the htc scrolling in 6.1. Newer builds have improved task and soft key bars and some different menu enhancements. Also, 6.5 has a more advanced virtual memory model than 6.1; this may well be the biggest advancement, although it's very much 'under the hood'. You only get it on the newer devices that have native 6.5 kernels available.

Well if it has enhanced virtual memory It should run faster, no? When I played with the 6.1 in the tmobile store, it was fast. My touch diamond is pretty slow. I wonder what HTC is going to do for 6.5. I heard they sent out test roms to sprint. for the tp2 udpate has anyone tried it?

i cant see no difference in start menu... my touch pro2 uses manila start menu.. not WM's...
this is a good thread to discuss.. i dont have any strong reason for me to change to wm6.5 ... the future manila will use fully manila skinned even in 'All Settings' menu.. i just hope wm6.5 can improve the background graphic on PPC with integrated supported drivers.. it just my imagination

[SOLVED] Best Kinetic Scrolling app?

Hello all,
I'm recently returning to touch screen WM devices after having a 6.1 smartphone for a few months.
I can't live without finger scrolling so i must ask, which is the best add on for finger scrolling? I used to use ftouchflo, it was ok, but it wasn't kinetic. Then i upgraded to ftouchsl, but it was quite buggy.
Now I see the touch diamond and touch pro/fuze as well as the lg incite with nice, built in kinetic scrolling. Is there any way to port such an add on to the Tilt? (The phone i'm using) or are there any good alternatives?
Thanks!
does anyone have any input on this or is this sub forum just dead?
I've tried all different types of add ons and i'm really just looking for some users' opinions.
it's christmas lol wait and see what people say later on today
I don't think there's anything better to use than the FtouchSL...
use HTC Touchflo instead of ftouchflo, or ftouchsl,. it have so many option anyway,.
I beleive that if you install TF2D found on the development and hacking forum it will include HTC Touchflo, which works great as far as I am concerned.
htc touchflo is far more superior than ftouchflo or ftouchfloSL. I have tried both on my Polaris. The kinetic scrilling in HTC is very good.
You have a HTC Tilt yes? If so, is touch scrolling enabled? (Settings->System->TouchFlo, if that doesn't exist, I suggest you flash a cooked ROM, most of which contain TouchFlo built in).

The only and big advantage ftouchflo/ftouchsl has over HTC touchflo is that it is cofigurable. while using the handwritten notes (I use PhatPad) the touch scrolling can be switched off while using ftouchSL/ftouchflo whereas it remains a pain in thw [email protected]# using it with HTC touchflo.
Thanks everyone. I had a hermes a couple months ago and when i put m2d on it, it didn't include touchflo for the whole system. Apparently it does now? I'll try an m2d rom on my tilt when it comes in a day or two and see what happens.

Wimo 6.1 Compare 6.5 (survey)

Which one u feel better. wimo 6.1 or 6.5??? (doing survey)
After i try both, i still feel 6.1 suit me.
Reply me with two answer
1)Which u feel better, reason?
2)Which rom r u using now.
Thank.
I like 6.5 better.
1) I liked TF3D, but Titanium does all the same stuff for me and is much lighter on resources.
2) Even though the start menu is a little slower, I still like it better than the older versions.
3) I like the scrolling menus, I don't have to use the stylus as much.
4) With the recent builds, its getting up to the speed of 6.1.
I'm using RRE v3.
6.5 for me
speed is better, start menu is better, scrolling is better
and you can still use tf3d especially rhodium version you lose nothing by upgrading
I hate 6.5 start menu. I kinda like the 6.1 menu and link to programs/settings, with my shortcut list.
I've also had some compatibility issues with 6.5.
6.5 here. I like the Chome/Titanium interface better than touchflo3d.
Screen refreshes faster.
I've noticed that all the wm6.5 roms I've tried, seem to bug after time. The bug I'm talking about is the messaging slowing down in response after time. It seems like it's because there are more messages. Is this a wm6.5 bug?
1. I like wm6.5's speed. It seems to lag less, but overall max performance is the same I think (not tested using any speed test)
2. I'm currently using RREs 6.5 rom v5
Im starting to like 6.5. The speed and stability of the rom im using (rre) is winning me over. The start menu is the only thing i dont like, but everything else is good to go, at least for me
Love 6.5...............BUT going with 6.1 since some software (medical) isn't supported yet on 6.5 (epocrates specifically - at least, without losing autoupdate feature)....
Once that is taken care of, back to 6.5 for me. Loved the speed and the menu actually.
I wasn't much of a fan of 6.5 but I decided to geive Energy 3.0 Phoenix a swing and so far it is going well. I think that ROM brought me over. I will try RRE some time later since I was using RRE 5.8 before and it is still my favourite 6.1.
You can install QuickMenu and just make sure it's not set to replace the start menu. Then get the best of both worlds.
6.5, IMO.
6.5, primarily due to the native slide-to-unlock screen... I had problems with 3rd party solutions. The 6.5 app is all I need, no more, no less and it just works. I prefer the new menus as well... they are a little more finger friendly.
But I still prefer TF3D over titanium.
I tested 6.5 and it's ok but I hate new start menu.
Menus works perfect - I really like it.
IMHO i would say 6.5, it is alot more finger friendly, battery usage and speed are about the same for me.
1) For me 6.5 is way better, everything looks nicer and scrolling is soooo much smoother... New start menu (without Honeycomb) is so nice and smooth... Still like TF3D2 better then Chrome, it reserves more space for the screen selected and provides a better oversight.
2) Using EnergyROM 2009/06/12, it's incredibly stable and FAST
tried 6.5 and hated it, back to 6.1 start menu, "finger friendly" context menus were WAY to big. I bought a vga device to have MORE info per screen, not huge, zoomed in fonts

The pros and cons of WM6.5

So I now have a Rhodium running WM6.1 and TF3D2 and am wondering of the benefits of upgrading to WM6.5 when HardSPL is released.
It is likely i will be upgrading as the two ROMs which i am dying to try At0mAng & EnergyROM both look like they are going to be 6.5.
Aside from the honeycomb start menu what are the benefits of WM6.5 as on my Raphael (Touch Pro, Fuze) i saw no real benefits (except kinetic scrolling but my Rhodium has that currently.
Feedback needed!
I am running 6.5 and it seems very slick and fast. I like the way the Chef has tried to hide the microsoftness from it.
I would suggest you try them both when you get the oppurtunity as everyone likes different things in their roms so it's really a matter of personal preference
On my experience:
6.5: More nice graphipcs UI, more finger friendly, more heavy RAM usage
6.1: More stable, better performance
I´m actually testing 6.5 on my Universal with only 64mb of RAM and it´s not as fast and stable as 6.1

I have used 6.5 on my Raphael and saw very little difference aside from kinetic scrolling and the start menu.
Any other differences?
Hi,
internet explorer is also better, with a zoom like Opera mobile, iris browser or netfront.
6.5 right now seems to be a visually enhanced 6.1. With kenetic scrolling randomly painted on some Windows screens. Mostly menus and such.

hmmm, perfect ROM...
I want WinMo6.5 with old gui,
much free RAM (20MB+),
with Chome editor, secondtoday, homescreen++, network wizard, HTC home plugin, MS office, HTC Audio Manager, HTC Album....,
without manilla
wm 6.5.X + manila 2d
wm 6.5.X + manila 2d
I want a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM with the following:
1. MS Office, Internet Explorer, calculator, etc. (the stuff you kind of assume comes with Windows Mobile)
2. Touch scrolling (I don't know if that's normally part of 6.1 or not...)
3. Some kind of connection setup wizard with T-Mobile for the US as an option
4. The HTC task manager would also be nice, but optional
5. My primary language is English, so I would prefer an English ROM
So I pretty much just want a pretty clean WM6.1 ROM... I feel like something like this should exist, but I haven't really been satisfied by any ROM I have tried so far. Does anyone know of one like this that already exists?
EDIT (this is for a future post because I don't want to take this off topic more): Thanks LivArt; I hadn't tried his yet. The included programs he listed always looked further from clean than I was hoping for. I finally flashed it and it's pretty good.
exhno: cracings last 6.1
I want a WM6.5 New GUI. like Cracing's ROM without Manila 2D.

New GUI is good. Like manilla 2.5
What I want in a ROM
a) Stable. Most ROMs nowadays are stable, but I remember when they crashed a lot.
b) Enough free RAM to run programs, without having to reboot. I really like the latest CRACING rom, except that there are several programs that won't launch unless I've just rebooted.
c) Fast. For our poor Wizard, that usually means overclocking support. So build in TodayScreen++ or some other overclocker. And make it fast even without overclocking.
d) Finished. Don't give me dead links, like on the Internet panel of M2D. Don't leave out camera or MMS either. Naked is okay, but what is in the rom needs to be complete, and seem not like a work in progress.
e) Some things just work better when in a ROM, like M2D and Office. Put those in, whether I use them or not.
f) Anything that would run fine in Storage Card, or anything that is being actively developed so that new versions are coming out, keep those OUT of the rom.
Of the roms available on these forums, I like the following quite a bit.
This isn't ordered: I have a hard time picking a favorite. Don't believe my signature: I'm running RoryB's latest rom today.
S.V.I. / RoryB's Angel series: best 6.1 complete
CRACING's CR96 Touch HD series: best 6.5 complete
xda2_haseeb: some awesome 6.5 roms, looking forward to the New Year
md_bluelily's MSD series: best 6.5 naked
Any of the "alpha" roms by Ham3r: awesome 6.5 and best 6.1 naked rom.
In terms of home screens:
Chome is nice but a bit too minimal, and disables the old plugins.
M2D is beautiful and functional but takes too much ram, disables old plugins.
HTC Home is simple, good enough, works with plugins.
SPB 3.5 is best, fully functional, less ram than M2D, works with plugins.
But you can't put SPB in your rom (it's commercial).
So I'd vote for (in order) HTC Home, CHome, M2D.
Which OS?
I like it fingerfriendly so I would prefer WM6.5.x (with new style GUI).
Which TodayScreen?
M2D looks good but needs a lot of packages (and space) in the kitchen. It also eats up a way to much RAM. If you want other features with M2D you can not use additional today-plugins and last but not least our wizard has a slide-out keyboard and even the new M2D 2.0 has no real landscape-mode.
CHome does not need so much RAM, it has a landsacape-mode and there are already quit a lot of extra plugins. But you need special CHome-plugins and you cannot use normal today-plugins, it does not look good and the features and the controll are just to minimal.
HTC-Home is quit old but it works in landscape, needs only very little RAM and you can still run other today-plugins (like calendar+). It has no slide-effects but still is extremly fingerfriendly.
For me HTC Home (with calendar+) is still the best!
Which additional Software?
With HTC Home you don't need CHome Editor or M2DC. I don't even use HTC Home Config.
With WM6.5.x (without M2D) you also don't need extra touchflo stuff.
Important software:
- Total Commander
- WM5torage
- calendar+
- HTC Album (2.x works much better than 3.x!)
- a good text editor (more important than all the Office stuff)
- I would also add a Midlet-Manager like Esmertec Jbed
I also use TomTom and S2U2 but I would not include them in my ROM.
Last but not least I want a german ROM so I cooked my SKYNET ROM!
I pretty much agree, but I use Office for work stuff, believe it or not.
Oh, and I need a rom in English.
6.5 with new GUI
Try Bluelilly's or X2H's

WM6.5 'buttons' in manilla 2d?

I've been flicking through roms, and settled on a manilla 2D one. It's wm6.5, but it lacks the nice big 'start' and 'close' buttons on the bottom of the screen, instead they're being all default and sitting at the top. Is there any app or anything to change that? Also, I don't have the useful slider unlocker, is there an app for that?
Thanks!!
Thats nothing to do with Manila 2D, thats just a shell created by HTC to improve WM6.5's limited functions. It's the version of windows mobile, you'd need 6.5.3 or above for those buttons.
I know its not anything to do with Manilla, but I coulda sworn this rom was above 6.5.3. It's not a registry option or anything?
I dont think so mate, what rom is it?
Darkvisions 5.0 Manilla
moved to qna, not dev related
