hi guys just wondering if you can get an wifi router app (just like the one preinstalled) that allows you to open ports to play xbox live games off your hd2 wifi router?
thanks in advance
alex
Have you tried it? As far as I'm aware, there's no firewall, and therefore no need for ports to be opened.
now are you trying to use your 3g data connection to play xbox live or using this HD2 as a wireless bridge (ie to another wireless router to save money on forking out for an xbox wireless adapter??)
it would be pretty costly to play xbox live over a mobile data connection.. (even these "unlimited" ones are pretty goddam limited)
I hope this is a joke. In case it isnt, you probably could, but don't expect to play any game other than hangman (very HIGH latency).

In theory, its possible.
But my 'unlimited' usage plane has a fairusage of 2gb a month...
I use atleast 20gb a month on my home internet.
so as nutmegy said, possible - But costly.

T-mobile has a 2-gig a month usage plan now? i thought they were only a gig or 500 meg? I generally HATE O2 as they block umpteen million ports.
As a side note though i did use my phone to COD Modern Warfare 2 on my laptop multiplayer.. and i used about 50 or so meg over around 8 hours...
however that was from a laptop not an XBOX so unsure what the data requirements are for XBOX live..
oh and another thing.. the point i raised about O2 blocking ports will probably affect you conecting to xbox live.. (or nay other provider) as it is their internet proxies that do the blocking..
I however am on 3.. and they are quite relaxed.. (except for the saucy stuff.. they just refer you to their own 3 website which charges you for porn lol)
lol, im on o2, so looks like i cant play xbox live over wifi then lol. it connects to enternet, but NAT settings on xbox stays 'strict'.
A friend of mine who hasnt got the internet wanted the newest dash update. Using my phone and a wifi dongle he got online and downloaded it.
We didnt play any games, but you CAN go online with it yes.
It can be done but the 360 pulls so much bandwith it probley would burnout the device not to mention like that guy with that 35,000 dollar verizon bill just buy the 360 wireless kit

It can be done & with a 3g card it works AMAZING i've tried it myself but being here in India the 3g connections are cheap I mean I wouldn't say you can game with it everyday but I played for about 3 hours I think it was approx. 10 games costed me $1
i use the WiFi app i downloaded from omarket to run xbox live play games chat through headset and all with my hd2. believe it .

Anybody know how ATT MOBILE TV Works? Does it work through a proxy or something where the user needs to have a paid account. I was trying to figure out if there was a way to get the channels simply by pluggin a URL into a streaming media player.
Mobile TV works off of a separate antenna on the phone that operates on the 700 MHz band. This antenna receives an encrypted digital broadcast that is later decrypted by the phone when the Mobile TV subscription is added onto your account. It uses NO data connection which is why it runs at 60fps at QVGA resolution.
Mobi TV is a subscription based service that is similar but runs off the data network at a low resolution and frame rate and therefore not as nice.
Since you're asking this in a Raphael forum I'm going to bet you want to know if there is a way to run Mobile TV on the Fuze. There is not currently. The hardware does not physically exist on the phone. It only currently works on the Vu, Incite, Access, and some POS LG we stopped carrying.
I hear that a separate device for receiving these broadcasts is in the works (similar to the GPS pucks) but no luck yet.
well maybe the fuze does and the touch pro doesnt. i would like some sorta tv option. i had mobitv on my blackjack with some *cough* modifications and it would be cool to show off a bit more media on my new phone.
Slingbox is the choice to go for.
mobi tv comes with att fuze but no one has hacked it yet. hackers either are defeated or dont have a solution to get around the 5 minute time limit.

I think 'POS LG' would include the Vu also lol, I'm using it. i hate it. That other LG would probably be the Invision right? it looks like crap too. I lost faith in LG phones.
On an additional note, the Samsung Eternity is Mobile TV enabled as well. I think the Eternity is absolutely worth the money. It might look like an Omnia on crack withdrawal, but it really feels like a solid all around phone.
I'm praying for a Mobile TV (MediaFLO) enabled Fuze. I'm already a subscriber for this POS Vu.
Hi i have mobile wifi router installed on my phone (came with duttys rom) and i was wondering if using it my network could tell and charge me extra?
I have an unlimited data plan but i know I could pay an extra £10 and then my phone could be used as a mobile boradband device, does this mean that if i try to use the mobile wifi router program that my carrier would be able to tell and block it or charge me extra?
Also is there a way to share the phone connection with a pc without using wifi and without having to buy the networks extra mobile boradband package because I will almost never use it but its good to know i have the option if i go on holiday or whatever, maybe i want to prows the web in the garden soemthing like that
no wifi works even if you don't have a sim card in the phone
just like pda's with wifi and no phone
just like your laptop connecting with wifi to the router
just like your desktop connecting with wifi or cable to the router
no its not that, mobile wifi router converts your phone into a router so your laptop/whatever can connect to it and use its data connection to connect to the internet, I was just wondering if doing this the network can tell and then charge me extra as they usually charge for using your phone as an internet access point
the connection from the phone to the laptop or computer is free anything wifi
the cost to go onto internet will however depend on your satat rates, just to be sure id ask your operator
Hi thanks for trying to help, but thats not what I was asking. I know wifi connections are free what I was asking is if my operator will be able to tell the difference between my phone using its data connection and my laptop using my phones data connection.
The reason I ask is that I have unlimited data for my phone.
but
you can pay extra money to upgrade your account to allow your phone to be used as a mobile broadband dongle
but if they can't tell the difference between phone using its data and pc using its data then there is no need to pay the extra money.
is this the case or am i missing something
Depending on your operator, there could be a max of MB's. So it might be 500 MB/month, but also unlimited internet. With that, you are able to use it without any extra costs.
Is it possible to somewhat put up a wifi network on your phone via some program (WiFi Router is one I think) and connect to it and use it ON your phone?
aaah teething
as far as I know they should not be able to detect it
but I could be mistaken
If the usage is large 500MB/month, carrier might suspect unusual activity. teething is paid service with some carriers.
I have a G1 tethered on T-mobile USA. I have talked to customer service. They said they do not support tethering but that it is not illegal. Their solution is to allow a soft cap of 10gb of data service with their unlimited plan and once you reach the cap they throttle the internet speed down from 3g to 2g levels. Not to horrible. I play all my online games with my G1 connection, Counter Strike Source, Perfect World International, Flyff, and download quite a bit of music and usually only reach about 300mb a day which gives me a full month of service before i reach that cap. And at the start of the new month I get reset.
I´m in the same situation.
I´ve got an unlimited data plan, which covers phone/PDA use, but EXCLUDES using the device as a modem for a PC/Laptop (tethering).
I´ve tethered it ocasionally, and it worked.
My carrier didnt charge me extra, nor blocked. BUT i know the risk exists. I´ve tried to research.
What i read is that carrier COULD tell if you are tethering by traffic analysis (one way is looking the user agent of your web pages request, which identifies yor browser), but that this traffic analysys is not practical, and most carriers dont do it....by now.
So of you tether ocasionally, you are safe.....today, ....until carriers perceive there is a number significant enough to make profits,of people tethering under a data plan intented just for phone use, then they can start charging you.

ha nice, well im gonna give it a go anyway and see what happens, its just funny that they specifically advertise to upgrade your account to be able to do this as if they can somehow tell. I dunno what mobile boradband is like in the us but in the uk there advertising it all over the place as if its someting people really need instead of something that is ocasionally useful, apart from in your case its mad how much you do through your phone.

thanks for this, if the only thing they can do to check is by the web requests of your browser surely there is a way to pretend to be opera mobile for example which should receive the full web anyway. Anyway as you say I won;t be using it much if at all so if i do fancy it i think ill just take the risk and see what happens worse they can do is charge me a little extra and i may even be able to avoid that by pleeding ignorance

I don't quite understand this question, you could use the program i mentioned to make your phone into a wifi access point and use its data connection to the internet then anything you like could then connect to it e.g. another phone, psp, ps3 laptop .....
is that what you ment?
Does anyone have the G Tablet working on the Clear Network?
I know Clear is not in all areas yet so let me explain that Clear offers wireless internet and phone service on their 4G network. Here in Vegas we have both Clear 4G and Sprint 4G available. The Clear service is available for about $40.00 per month here and I am curious if this would work.
The Clear device is a USB port modem that would plug into the side of the G Tablet. Does this Clear device work with the G Tablet?
Also, Clear was selling a small hot spot device that can be used in place of a hot spot phone. I am not sure if that is still available. Do you think it would work with the G Tablet over wifi?
Also, does anybody know if the Sprint HTC EVO Hot Spot feature works well with the G Tablet? I think Sprint requires users to purchase their hot spot service and using a Sprint Phone as a theter violates their user agreement.
So, I am opening this up for discussion and not looking to try this right away, just looking for info for now. I hope this leads to a lot of discussion on the topic of wireless internet on the go. What made me wonder about this is I may have to sit in the hospital waiting room for several hours and it might be nice to take the tablet along to pass the time and I am doubtful there will be wifi service at the hospital.
Thanks for any response in advance.
ahhhh... Finally somthing I know a little about. I dont think the Tabs are gears for drivers for the clear cars, HOWEVER - I've had Clear since the day they came out, 2 usb sticks for $55 a month. Last month I upgraded one of the USB modems for the clearspot 4G, monthly service was the same price and now I have wiMax router that I can connect 8 devices to. IT WORKS GREAT. No reason to get a USB moden when you get the router for the same price
Hope that helped some?

Hi it2steve, are you using the G Tablet with the Clearspot? I talked to Clear Sales on the phone and the CSA said he thought the Modems would work with the Android Opp System. He also said that the Hot Spot device (Clearspot?) was either discontinued or was being discontinued. He said it works great for him (but he is one of those "Apple Guys") and he has it working with about 8 devices.
I was wondering the same thing.. Road Runner/Time Warner Cable recently put a similar device. It is said to be a 3G/4G mobile hot spot router. Their service is $39.99 for their local 3/4G service while the national(nationwide) service cost $39.99 for the first 3 months then reverts to $59.99 after that. Currently I have a rooted G1 with barnacle adhoc tether. Max DL is about 1.8 mbs on 3G and max upload speeds of .7 mbs. It is sufficient for browsing websites but not for watching flash ie YouTube(although some videos do play good and quickly). I'm using it ATM at work with max 12kbps DL and like 4kbps upload. Haha!
Hi,
HTC EVO4G hotspot works well with gtab. If you root your EVO you can either use wifi tether or with some roms use hotspot feature without having to pay the carrier any additional fees

Sprint is re-selling Clear's 4G service. I have a Sprint Overdrive 4G Mifi hotspot. Actually using it now because the cable modem in the house went dead. 5 devices can connect and use the hotspot at once. It's awesome.
Let me warn you. No one that I am aware of has been able to get any USB air card to work on a G-tablet yet. I know some devs are trying to get it to work, but if you want mobile internet on the G-tablet, you need to get a mifi or hotspot device.

Ok... I don't know anything about a recall. I do, however, know first hand which services that I have had with them the last year and a half:
- I started with two USB Clear 4G modems (NOT 4G+ which is 3 and 4G)
- 8 months ago I got the original 'ClearSpot Router' (which was an actual router, made my cradle point branded by Clear that a usb stick went into and broadcast the signal like any other router.
-45 days ago I upgraded one of my USB sticks to (now what they call) Clearspot 4G (not 4G+) as it's basically the same as the first one except it's all built into one unit. You set it up like you would any router, user / pass / SSID / encryption / ect.
It works flawlessly on my tab, laptop, Wii and even cell when I need it. As a backup I tether my Tab off of my Vibrant too.
Hope this helps some. I've included two pics, one of the first Clearspot with USB and one of the 'new' Clearspot where the USB is no longer needed (by the way, for the price and what you get the Clearspot makes it a no-brainer compared to a USB)
I have the 4G Clear Spot portable WiFi router (second picture above) and it works fine with the G tablet as with any other WiFi device. You can connect up to 5 devices at a time The WiFi signal is 802.11b/g.
I have Brilliant Corners 1.3.1 and I have been reading about Ad-Hoc Wifi. I will be in the mountains in OCT. and Nov. and I will be using a 3G dongle with my wife's laptop and instead of buying a Mifi could I just connect to the laptop using Ad-Hoc Wifi? Is Ad-Hoc supplement already with Brilliant Corners or do I need to install the wpa_adhoc-signed.zip or wpa_supplicant.7z? If I do, how do I do it? Do I flash it like I would a regular ROM? I don't think I should be wiping anything though, should I? Do I have to use ADB to do this because I do not feel comfortable with it? Could I use Terminal Emulator?
Hi, you might want to look into:
http://www.connectify.me/
The full version of connectify might do the trick for you and it's priced at $19.99 now with a promo code.
Check the website.
I was just on vacation in Delaware recently and I used the free version on my wife's wired laptop and shared the internet connection with all the other laptops/tablets in the beach house.
Worked great!
The only drawback with the free version is that it will only work with a wired computer as the host. The paid version apparently lets you share a wireless signal ala' your wife's laptop with 3G dongle.
Good luck and have a great vacation!
Hey I'm just wondering has anyone tried using Grid over mobile network rather than wifi. My internet speed is abysmal (rural Ireland) and the only way I can use grid is over a wifi hotspot from my phone. I haven't got a package yet as I am wondering how much data Grid uses to stream games. Anyone any idea?
its really to be used on WiFi or Ethernet. i imagine it uses a fairly heavy amount of data.
I read an article online that said it used about 1GB an hour.
Ooh. That's hefty. I'm just going to have to wait for my area to get proper broadband so :'(
I've used it on a 4G LTE network. The next day I checked my data usage and it says I used 1.5GB of data that day. I'll be sticking to WiFi.
I've got an unlimited data contract so I don't care too much for use. But yes I tried it over an H+ connection to play Lego LOTR and it was a surprisingly enjoyable experience.
I also tested playing my home PC games and that wasn't too shabby either. Dragon Age Inquisition was easily playable!
That would be ideal but for me the only deals on pre pay are all for 15gb, which I'm not sure would be enough to use grid over a month, although I might only be using it on the weekends so I could give it a try. Is yours truly 'unlimited' or is there a fair usage policy? @kickassdave

I'm on 3 in the UK and there is actually no fair use policy. They are a little slow to catch up with the 4G speeds of the other networks, but as I said, I tried it over H+ and it wasn't too bad at all. I don't think the more twitchy control reliant games would be great though.
