Anybody know how ATT MOBILE TV Works? Does it work through a proxy or something where the user needs to have a paid account. I was trying to figure out if there was a way to get the channels simply by pluggin a URL into a streaming media player.
Mobile TV works off of a separate antenna on the phone that operates on the 700 MHz band. This antenna receives an encrypted digital broadcast that is later decrypted by the phone when the Mobile TV subscription is added onto your account. It uses NO data connection which is why it runs at 60fps at QVGA resolution.
Mobi TV is a subscription based service that is similar but runs off the data network at a low resolution and frame rate and therefore not as nice.
Since you're asking this in a Raphael forum I'm going to bet you want to know if there is a way to run Mobile TV on the Fuze. There is not currently. The hardware does not physically exist on the phone. It only currently works on the Vu, Incite, Access, and some POS LG we stopped carrying.
I hear that a separate device for receiving these broadcasts is in the works (similar to the GPS pucks) but no luck yet.
well maybe the fuze does and the touch pro doesnt. i would like some sorta tv option. i had mobitv on my blackjack with some *cough* modifications and it would be cool to show off a bit more media on my new phone.
Slingbox is the choice to go for.
mobi tv comes with att fuze but no one has hacked it yet. hackers either are defeated or dont have a solution to get around the 5 minute time limit.

I think 'POS LG' would include the Vu also lol, I'm using it. i hate it. That other LG would probably be the Invision right? it looks like crap too. I lost faith in LG phones.
On an additional note, the Samsung Eternity is Mobile TV enabled as well. I think the Eternity is absolutely worth the money. It might look like an Omnia on crack withdrawal, but it really feels like a solid all around phone.
I'm praying for a Mobile TV (MediaFLO) enabled Fuze. I'm already a subscriber for this POS Vu.

I am going to appologize in advance if this has been covered or a noob question, but I was wondering if I am able to connect this with another phone via bluetooth as possibly use that phone as a modem to let the 7510 get online? Reason being is this 7510 doesn't have T-Mobile 3G and I would be trying to use 3G off my other phone. I know this is possible on my laptop so the question has no arrisen since I am debating on either getting this 7510 or the Shift. I notcied that the shift uses Vista/Xp so I figured what ever my laptop could do as far as connections, I would be able to do with that as well.
If anyone could shed some info on the topic, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
I'm sure this is possible- a lot of older PDAs used Bluetooth to connect to a mobile phone, and use the GPRS connection. Most 3G phones have a connection setup for BT Modem.
It would be pretty slow though- even if BT2 is supported on both devices you are unlikely to get anywhere near 3G speeds.
Does the Shift have the US T-Mobile 3G capability? If so it would be an easier setup!
Ya, no the shift doesn't have T-Mobile bands thats why I wanted to tether. I just wanted a small device to do emails/web/GPS/Music seperately. I'm thinking either the 7500 or so or a internet Tablet Device.
The 7500/7510 could do this, but forget about streaming music over a Bluetooth phone pairing. Locally stored music would be fine though though the wired headset or over Bluetooth A2DP.
But, if all you really want is a small devcie for those needs, why not opt for a smaller Windows Mobile device that does support the T-Mo 3G band?
There isn't a T-Mobile device that runs on 3G for the T-Zones data plan. Hence why I am actually using the Sony Ericcson TM506 for the data and trying to figure out with device I want more, which I am leaning more towards the Advantage than the N810 since its Windows Mobile and more customizible.
Ah- OK. Just seen that T-Mo use 1700 band for upload and 2100 for download, and no WM devices support that combo
I've been on o2 for about a decade so I don't know too much about the other networks.
I can get a good deal on the Touch Pro 2 on Tmobile so thinking about a change.
The deal is with web'n'walk and the small print says that I can't use IM or tether to my laptop.
My question is this - can they tell if my traffic is directly from my mobile or from my laptop and if so how?
They've never been able to tell when I've done it, and as for IM, it's usually built in to the phone OS (on Windows Mobile anyway) and works just fine. If it were forbidden, then they've just block the ports like they have with IRC ones.
Thanks - I was hoping for that answer!
hi guys just wondering if you can get an wifi router app (just like the one preinstalled) that allows you to open ports to play xbox live games off your hd2 wifi router?
thanks in advance
alex
Have you tried it? As far as I'm aware, there's no firewall, and therefore no need for ports to be opened.
now are you trying to use your 3g data connection to play xbox live or using this HD2 as a wireless bridge (ie to another wireless router to save money on forking out for an xbox wireless adapter??)
it would be pretty costly to play xbox live over a mobile data connection.. (even these "unlimited" ones are pretty goddam limited)
I hope this is a joke. In case it isnt, you probably could, but don't expect to play any game other than hangman (very HIGH latency).

In theory, its possible.
But my 'unlimited' usage plane has a fairusage of 2gb a month...
I use atleast 20gb a month on my home internet.
so as nutmegy said, possible - But costly.

T-mobile has a 2-gig a month usage plan now? i thought they were only a gig or 500 meg? I generally HATE O2 as they block umpteen million ports.
As a side note though i did use my phone to COD Modern Warfare 2 on my laptop multiplayer.. and i used about 50 or so meg over around 8 hours...
however that was from a laptop not an XBOX so unsure what the data requirements are for XBOX live..
oh and another thing.. the point i raised about O2 blocking ports will probably affect you conecting to xbox live.. (or nay other provider) as it is their internet proxies that do the blocking..
I however am on 3.. and they are quite relaxed.. (except for the saucy stuff.. they just refer you to their own 3 website which charges you for porn lol)
lol, im on o2, so looks like i cant play xbox live over wifi then lol. it connects to enternet, but NAT settings on xbox stays 'strict'.
A friend of mine who hasnt got the internet wanted the newest dash update. Using my phone and a wifi dongle he got online and downloaded it.
We didnt play any games, but you CAN go online with it yes.
It can be done but the 360 pulls so much bandwith it probley would burnout the device not to mention like that guy with that 35,000 dollar verizon bill just buy the 360 wireless kit

i use the WiFi app i downloaded from omarket to run xbox live play games chat through headset and all with my hd2. believe it .
(Q) Why doesn't my Captivate pick up wireless signal from my old Fuse/Touch Pro when it is enbled for wireless access point?
Vice Versa. Captivate signals can't be access through my Nexus One. However, using Barnacle and modifying my laptop to mtu 1250, it connects. I like to play games on my Captivate. Use the phone as a Portable Game Player. But it will not connect to any of my devices. Any idea how to fix this issue? I don't want to pull out my sim card everytime i use the captivate.
The mobile hotspot on your fuse creates an ad-hoc network. Afik the galaxy can't see ad-hoc networks.

Even my old iphone 3g was able to find the signal. Is there a way that it can be recognized. i don't have wifi access at work so I use the fuse as my mobile access point. sometimes the phone get so hot using the 3g data. the antenna heats the chit out of the phone. i don't want to put through my new phone the same way but i want to use it. and i like to somehow use it using the 3g off of my fuse.

There is currently a command line hack to force the captivate to recognize an ad-hoc network, but from what I hear it's extremely buggy and there is no UI. It's going to be a while before it gets incorporated into the developers' to-do lists.
Haven't tried yet but how hot does n1 get when using as mobile hot spot. Haven't had the n1 too long so I am not sure. I really don't want to but might try it tomorrow.

I'm curious to use the Mobile AP but not sure if AT&T will charge me extra per month for it. Does anyone know if they do charge extra for using this option or the USB Tethering?
This past weekend I hooked my fuze to the captivate. Use pre8. Just heard that there is a pre9 out. Those guys have coded their a$$ off for us. Use it, works beautifully

And to connect it to the fuze signal, can't think of the cab, but it's a new comm manager that allows this. I'll look on my fuze for the name.
All the stuff is available here on xda.

as long as you don't go over your data usage cap you'll be ok. if your going to use it alot there is a tethering package think it is 60 bucks. i got lucky i am grandfathered in under the old iphone unlimited package so thanks at&t for all the free usage.
Hey anybody can tell me if the 3g internet works on this phone with simple mobile... Im thinking on buying one of this phone but i want to make sure that the internet is nah edge!!!!!!
Hey Monster...
I just got a webOS phone about a month ago and I looked around pretty hard at who to activate with. Most often the recommendations and good word (in the US) were for Straight Talk. I can't answer about Simple except to say I found a few threads where people were defecting from Simple to Straight Talk.
Straight Talk has an official "bring your own phone" option. The SIM card is $15 and you have to use the $45/month unlimited everything plan, but that's a good value anyway. I see you have T-Mobile in your avatar slot... Palm phones will only get Edge on T-Mobile, but I guess you know that already.
I'm activated on Straight Talk - it all went smooth and painless, including the APN and MMS configuration. I do indeed have 3g speed and even the WiFi tethering (using freetether) to my laptop is reasonable speed wise.
I don't know why a Pixi, other than price... Why not spring for a Pre 2 and get the best webOS hardware for 3g that you can. That's what I did and I'm very happy with the phone.
Hope this helps.
RumoredNow your assessment is spot on. I also switched from Simple to Straight Talk for my Pre3 and my wife's Pre2. However, as much as I love webOS, I feel that the OS is in for a crash landing. There are too many apps that are going dark or no longer being supported on webOS and that's disturbing. I've been following the open sourcing and I'm just not getting a fuzzy feeling. I've since switched to Windows Phone and with the exception of the cards and gestures, I'm very impressed with the UI and the stability. The Mrs. won't let go of her Pre2 but that's ok because she's more of a casual user. I need MS Office apps and only the Touchpad has Quickoffice with editing capabilities. I do miss my Pre and I'm still swiping at my screen but nothing's happening.
