I am going to appologize in advance if this has been covered or a noob question, but I was wondering if I am able to connect this with another phone via bluetooth as possibly use that phone as a modem to let the 7510 get online? Reason being is this 7510 doesn't have T-Mobile 3G and I would be trying to use 3G off my other phone. I know this is possible on my laptop so the question has no arrisen since I am debating on either getting this 7510 or the Shift. I notcied that the shift uses Vista/Xp so I figured what ever my laptop could do as far as connections, I would be able to do with that as well.
If anyone could shed some info on the topic, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
I'm sure this is possible- a lot of older PDAs used Bluetooth to connect to a mobile phone, and use the GPRS connection. Most 3G phones have a connection setup for BT Modem.
It would be pretty slow though- even if BT2 is supported on both devices you are unlikely to get anywhere near 3G speeds.
Does the Shift have the US T-Mobile 3G capability? If so it would be an easier setup!
Ya, no the shift doesn't have T-Mobile bands thats why I wanted to tether. I just wanted a small device to do emails/web/GPS/Music seperately. I'm thinking either the 7500 or so or a internet Tablet Device.
The 7500/7510 could do this, but forget about streaming music over a Bluetooth phone pairing. Locally stored music would be fine though though the wired headset or over Bluetooth A2DP.
But, if all you really want is a small devcie for those needs, why not opt for a smaller Windows Mobile device that does support the T-Mo 3G band?
There isn't a T-Mobile device that runs on 3G for the T-Zones data plan. Hence why I am actually using the Sony Ericcson TM506 for the data and trying to figure out with device I want more, which I am leaning more towards the Advantage than the N810 since its Windows Mobile and more customizible.
Ah- OK. Just seen that T-Mo use 1700 band for upload and 2100 for download, and no WM devices support that combo

Couple of questions/concerns:
1. HSDPA says it is running on MEdiaNet. I have a PDA Personal Unlimited Plan. Doesn't this conflict with what I'm paying for? And saying that they'll "never find out" isn't good for me. If I'm getting something other than what I pay for through questionable means I'd rather not do it. I don't mind tweaking, modding a phone that I purchased, but cheating AT&T is something else.
2. Is it possible that they one day discover that I'm runnning HSDPA and charge me for the extra data I've obtained?

You will be fine. For some reason there is a registry entry that forces the phone to use 3G instead of HSDPA (aka 3.5G). The custom ROMs out here just enables HSDPA. ATT does provide this on all of their other phones and you wont get charge for this. Why the mode was locked out in the stock ATT ROM...I'm not too sure.
Ok, it's just that it seems too deliberate like they didn't want people getting more for less.
If you have an unlimited plan, as long as you are not trying to run bittorent, you should be fine.
I have thought about this myself, I almost think ATT is disabling HSDPA on purpose to meet the battery life they claim. I have seen no test on 3g vs HDPA and battery drainage, but I would assume opening more channels for data drains the battery quicker. The other possibility is the endless hammering of the network by iPhone 3Gs, so to prevent too much going on they are handicapping the devices. The far out possibility is ATT trying to make some devices look worse than other in the eyes of the consumer, in order to sell more of the more expensive phones (in this case the Bold being most expensive). But there is no actual proof to any of this, so I am just speculating. Its very much possible that HTC is just slow to update their branded ROMs, which is ALWAYS the case.
Actually from the many articles I have read, ATT is stretching the network thin. The mass amount of iphone users on 3g has put a strain on data usage. In order to buy some time to upgrade some network areas ATT had crippled newer phones. I will bet we will see a new ATT rom in the next quarter that has HSDPA enabled by default. If I get some spare time I will dig up the articles and link them to this thread.
wow lots of conspiracies here.
1 MEdia Net is the name of the portal that connects your phone to the internet. PDA net unlimited and MEdiaNet unlimited are the plans that you pay for to get unlimited access. So when the phone says it's connected to MEdia Net (3G) it's just stating it's connected to the gateway via 3G speeds, its not telling you which plan you are using.
2 - The 3G icons - not speeds were disabled to probably solve lots of customer calls. Lots of people don't know that H is faster than U and that U and H are BOTH 3G (3.5G is still a 3G technology) Here is one example:
Purchased a Sony Ericson Xperia X1 yesturday. This is my first WM phone as well as my first unlocked phone. I upgraded from a Cingular branded Moto Razr V3i
Today I go into the AT&T store to have Personal PDA added to my service. For whatever reason it wouldn't let me add it over the web site. The Plan is added and the customer rep tries to configure the phone for 3G as it was only connecting via Edge. After some fiddling we get a "H" for the data icon. Two hours ago I did not know "H" is equal to or better than "3G" ( Now I know) In a case in of not knowing when to stop he and I decided to use to the procedure for the ATT branded HTC Fuze in an effort to get 3G.

So as you can see, if customers that are even semi tech are not satisfied with getting a "H" on their phone cuz they want "3G Speeds" can you imagine the 500 calls a day about why they aren't getting 3G on their phones and instead are getting H?
If you want to get technical, AT&T in most areas no longer runs a UMTS network and has upgraded to HSPA. Even the areas that are UMTS have HSDPA addon. So they could be advertising 3.5G but that would just confuse everyone and think their phones need to be upgraded somehow.

This is exactly whats going on, BUT the other major factor is that the iPhone is NOT capable of HSPA and only 3G. This means that they don't want the Fuze drawing any sales away from the iPhone. You will see another iPhone come out next year capable of HSPA after AT&T gets there HSPA software updates they are hyping up in 2009.
**There is another thread HERE that has a cab in it to fix this. You can also flash a new ROM. The cabs below came from this thread and credit goes to them. "advancednetwork" cab changes icons, "advancednoicons" keeps original icons.
No HSDPA only Edge
I have AT&T and got a new Unlocked Raphael (no not the Fuze) just a little while ago to upgrade from my old Tilt. I use to have a very fast HSDPA connection but now with my Raphael I can only get Edge network. I have of course done gone through the forums first and have the required HardSPL, I have also, flashed my own roms (tried several different ones) also tried different radios, the above settings cabs, as well as the different tutorials on the reg settings that need to be changed as well as of course using Advanced Config as well as gone into advanced networking and check the settings every time but still can't get HSDPA, and yes I did all the aforementioned with all the different roms I have tried as well as the different radios. I put my sim in my old Tilt and it works fine on HSDPA. If any1 can help will greatly appreciate.
Supposedly in the configuration files, HSDPA supported was disabled per request by AT&T... which is noted in via comments in the middle of the coding.
Newer roms have HSDPA unlocked so we're able to obtain faster data speeds.

The HTC Touch Pro doesn't come with the correct amplifier that could be used on the ATT 3G network so there is a no-go for you on this. I am suffering the same thing but I am glad I am not paying for it at all.

Thnx juluswang...That info should be in the wiki and/or a sticky and if it is I did not see it. Guess I will sell it but what model has both cameras and the ability to utilize 3G and HSDPA here in the States?
This isn't related to this thread, but I just downlaoded a 4.2MB cab file in literally 1.5 seconds tops. I clicked on the file and by the time Opera's download tab opened, the file was done with a green checkmark.
I am loving my HSDPA/HSUPA enabled ROM.
So, is there a cab that will activate HSDPA or give access to it on the Fuze?
Advanced Configurator will allow you to enable HSDPA and HSUPA on your Fuze w/o flashing to a new ROM, voiding your warranty and spending hours setting up your phone again (not that we don't all do that anyway).
Is there no registry edit that will do it? I've tried all the ROMs and don't like them.

Yes there is. I don't know what they are but the Advanced Configurator will set them for you.

I have always wondered this:
If I have a MediaMax unlimited package vs. PDA plan on my Fuze would that have any impact on speed? I get HSPDA connections here in Chicago uhbt I typically see 900k speeds, while I see others reporting 1.8. Am I capped because I use Media instead of PDA plan? I have on occasion reached 1.2 so I'm thinking no? 3G is spotty in Chicago. I work IN the ATT building and I get Edge. How lame is that.
I see there's people trying to get external harddrives connected to the phone, would be amazing to see a 3g mobile broadband modem connected to the phone.
First problem, can the HD2 deliever enough power to the USB modem?
Edit: This was supposed to be in General, can a mod move it? Thanks
HD2 has support for 3G i think .
Im not really sure why you would want to since all you have to do is put the modems SIM in your HD2. If your HD2 isnt unlocked to that network just get it done, its not that expensive.
I doubt it would work in any case, even if the HD2 could provide the power (which it cant) those 3G dongles are a bit funny with drivers etc even on desktops and laptops let alone WinCE devices.
simranjits yeah it has 3g support, but it's expensive compared to my no limit deal on mobile broadband, which I believe is the case in most countries
rovex true but then I wouldnt be available on my regular phone number
Ive read about the HTC wifi sharing/tethering cab and will give it a try when I get my HD2..
couple quick questions.
1. How does Tmobile's 3g network compare in speed to evdo rev.a or At&t's 3g.
2. On my Palm Pre I use Mobile hotspot and it works perfect.. except when calls come in it stops.. At&t claim you can use the internet and talk on the phone.. Is this the same for Tmobile.. can i tether and receive calls without interpution? I like to stream talk radio at work to my laptop at work via tethering yet it's really annoying when I lose the connection anytime anyone calls.
THanks for any info.
In theory, the TMo 3G should be the fastest save for maybe Sprint? They just rolled out 7.2mbps HSPA+
And yes, you should be able to talk and have data at the same time, even on Tmobile. As long as you have a 3G/H signal.
thanks, thats great!

Actually, T-Mobile's HSPA+ is clocked at 21mbps. And thats only began to be rolled out across the US.
The T-Mobile US HD2 supports HSPA which is 7.2mbps.
The T-Mobile HD2 is also confirmed to support HSPA+ by T-Mobile

To put it simply: execute the Wifi router app and then connect to the phone like any other wifi hotspot.
Didn't I read in another thread, that TMobile removed the Wifi router app?

tethering tmobile hd2
You can also tether your phone through "Internet Sharing." Here is how.
1. Make sure you have Windows Mobile device center. Open it up and connect your hd2.
2. Go into the Connection Settings in the Mobile Windows Device Center and make sure you have "Allow data connections on device when connected to a PC" checked.
3. Go into Internet sharing on your hd2. It can be found under "Tools".
4. Once you open the Internet sharing application. You should see where it says PC Connections:USB and Network Connection: T-Mobile Data. In the bottom left corner you should see the word "Connect."
5. Make sure you have your data connection turn on and then push the word "Connect" and the hd2 will connect to your laptop. Then you can use your t-mobile hd2 to surf the internet through your laptop.
I have already done this and it works for me. God Bless (John 3:16) and Happy Surfing!!!
In reality ( miami, ft lauderdale area) its kinda of sux.
It shows strong 3g Signal but not anywhere near Verizon 3g or ATT 3g. I am using this to for the Ipad and it seems very slow. On some spots it can produce around 1.3 mbps but mostlys tays around 300k to 700K with full 3g Bar .
Waiting for Sprint EVO to switch. I also have 4 other lines with verizon and their network is way faster.
Can't get the Wi-Fi router to work
I just downloaded the HTC Wi-Fi router and can't seem to get it to work. It says it is running, but my laptop will not find my HD2 as a wireless access point.
Any ideas?
I have the HD2 Tmous
Ok, apparently you have to do a restart to get the application to work after installing. I did that and now my laptop can find the HD2 wi-fi, but it can not get connected. It looks like it is establishing a connection, but then fails.
I am having this problem too. I cannot connect my laptop no matter what. Usb or wireless.
I'm even on the stock ROM just to be sure. I'm on ATT.
Mine is working fine with booth a cooked rom on one phone and also a pure one from tmobile.
I might not be using the same one as the link that was posted here.
I searched for "wifi router by tom gordon", and have been using that one.
maybe google for that one and try it. Ive used it and had 3 devices connected to wifi at once.
good luck.

is there a Reg Edit we need to do ?
want to tether with Usb
Please Please Help
they finally rolled in the HSPA+ network
here in Tampa
it's comming soon to Miami area
http://t-mobile-coverage.t-mobile.com/
i get 4Mb/s now
make sure you hit ok when it shows the picture of the laptop and phone
or else the app hasn't started yet.
fyi this is faster than the so called "4g" from sprint.
Sprint's 4G is just marketing.
really isn't a true 4G network
or if you're just tethering for yourself and not a group, you can go the slightly slower route but save power by tethering over bluetooth.
can a 3g modual be used on the g tab. if so which ones work thanks all for help
How about...?
Hopefully this isn't too off-topic but why don't you just use the 3G connection from your phone (I assume you have an android phone)? That is what a lot of folks with the gTab do now.
I have a rooted Droid X phone that I've installed Wireless Tether on and since I have an unlimited data account with Verizon I turn my phone into a 3G hotspot and connect my gTab to it to surf when I'm out and about. This works great for me since I always have my phone with me.
Anyway, hopefully this info helps as I do not know of a way to add a 3G module to the gTab. Some folks have been discussing using a 3G or 4G usb dongle modem but I don't think they've been able to get that to work yet.
Good luck,
Steve

Absolutely agree!
I was in the quest of finding 3G module for my tab, preferably GSM, not CDMA (Werizon).
Later on I started counting and something dawned on me....LOL
If I install that module on G-Tab.... I have to pay for the access...
Since I already paying for my phone data plan, it would be a double whammy..
I have HD2 running WinMo 6.5 and WMWiFiRouter, which is the great program to tether to G-Tab.
Hope it helps.
So on my Captivate I have absolutely NO internet connection in school. WiFi is turned on and no sites load, once I get outside, boom, it loads. Other users that have Verizon and Sprint have internet.
I love the hardware and Quadrant scores on my captivate, but this is getting really bad. I am thinking of moving to Sprint and getting the HTC Evo 4G.
Does anyone else have this problem. Or any fixes?
did you try connecting to a wifi network.
or maybe learning to use your phone at all?
you have a piece of hardware that is far more capable than an evo if you are smart enough to figure out how to use it, and chances are your coverage is better aswell.............

I have had this for ~3 months I have a custom kernel and rom on it. Can I not simply use 3g in school without connecting to a network?
what rom,kernel,modem are you running?
are you on 850 or 1900 for 3g?
speculating from the info in your Original Post (OP),maybe yove got a modem with a weak signal and are on 1900mhz for data.
which doesnt penatrate walls as well as 850, my point being try a different modem but make sure its compatible with your kernel. If your connected to wifi instead of your carriers data it may be a rom problem, does your wifi work elsewhere?

"Can I not simply use 3g in school without connecting to a network?"
your phone prefers a wifi connection over the natural 3g, if u want to use 3g in school turn off the wifi. or are you trying to use the wifi and it doesnt work? im slightly confused
There's possibly a Verizon and/or Sprint repeater inside the school. I worked in a building that only AT&T users could get a signal. Everyone else had to go outside.
