So I'd like the experts to weigh in on this one: I'm pretty sure I'm getting the Touch Pro but I'd like to know the pros/cons of going the sprint route vs. the AT&T route. Do the same cooked roms on this site work on both, or only on the GSM (AT&T) version of the phone? Do people find the CDMA network faster/slower than the GSM network for Data (i.e. how do their 3G speeds compare). What other features might be different? And I know there's been some confusion on release dates but has that been cleared up at all?
...Part of me wants to wait and see if the Touch HD Pro will come out (HD w/ QWERTY) but I don't know if I can wait that long, and if it's only released for Europe w/out US 3G that'd suck...
Thanks all for your help!
I'd also like to see a good summary of the differences with the 2 providers. I'm probably going to be leaving Verizon for this phone.
I'd also read that the Touch HD would not be released in the US - so I'm pretty much counting on the Touch Pro.
jumping along with this one
Somebody can give more details, but I can still pitch in a little bit.
I'm from Canada so I can't really pitch in for pros/con for T-Mobile/AT&T. One advice is to get a real good look at the 3G coverage because ultimately that can be a big factor depending where you live/go.
From what I read, I wouldn't hold my breath for the HD, apparently it's currently not planned for North America. One with a keyboard is even a longer shot because of it's size, making it thicker would pretty much make it a huge phone, don't know if there's a big market for that.
As for the ROM, I saw that Elite Team is talking about making a CDMA rom, but in this forum, you will find much more GSM material. I believe that the North America user are not a huge proportion of the user base, so it explains why most of the talk is revolving around GSM.
Hope this helps a bit in your decision, overall the TP is very nice and I think the custom ROMs in this forum can make it a greater phone!
That definitely helps - If it makes a difference in terms of which service would be better, i live in the NYC area and so getting the coverage on either network wouldn't be an issue. I've heard good things about the sprint high speed network, but haven't used their service in like 5yrs, so have no idea if they've gotten better or worse since then.
In any case, the features of each phone look pretty comparable. It's not like the sprint phone will have some sort of killer app that the AT&T version wouldn't have.
I guess time will tell once people actually start using these and comparing notes on them. Is "Sprint TV" anything? I know that comes with the sprint version but have no idea what it is.

sprint tv is tv on the go u get channels like nfl network , disney, and cnn live, but most of the channels arent live just clips and stuff...the only difference i see with them is the fuze took away the number row and replaced it with symbols, as far as networks i dont know whos is better, but sprints $15 data plan comes with sprint tv and you get 3g with att u have the pay for internet then if u want 3g then u have to pay a extra $10, but that mite just be for the iphone

I take offense to you lumping me, a GSM user, in with the likes of Verizon and Sprint.
A co-worker of mine has the Vogue (CDMA Touch) on Verizon, and it's total BS what you have to go through when you flash a new radio or ROM to the device. Verizon uses something called an "A-Key" to authenticate you to their data network, and that key is wiped out on radio flashes (sometimes ROM flashes), so you constantly have to call Verizon to have them resend you a key to allow data connections (ALL data, not just ICS) to work.
...and Sprint has registry keys built into their ROMs to prevent ICS from working. Admittedly, this annoyance has a much easier workaround that Verizon's, but it's still BS.

AT&T has several different data packages available, and the device you have determines your choices, but all of them connect to 3G without additional fees.
Att All The Way!
As an owner of the FUZE. I can tell you I love this phone. The ATT version will a little different because it’s GSM. Forget the TV that any device comes with and get a Sling Box.
- Change your SIM to a cheap phone when you go Drinking or to the beach or overseas!
- Video Share, although not used a lot I use it and love it!
- Push To Talk, Again not really used a lot but its there.
Wow I sound like I work for ATT or something!

definetly like being able to pop the sim in a crappy phone
wich my 8525 will be soon enough
The other thing to remember is Sprint is really struggling right now and may not be around much longer. If you do travel anywhere outside of the US and want to take your phone, you will want GSM. Just my 2 cents.
Sprint is better in my opinion
sprint evdo rev a is $15/month which is the fastest mobile speed you can get in the US, versus ATT 3G $30/month which much slower (i have compared a mogul versus 3g iphone, and the mogul(ppc-6800) is reasonably faster)
sprint $15 unlimited texting
ATT $20 unlimited texting
this all comes down to what your friends have?, because if you talk alot and your friends/family has att, then just go with them since mobile to mobile is unlimited and vice versa if you have sprint friends/family.
also, the previous poster is correct in the sense that sprint is obviously not good outside the US and for switching phones all the time.
sprint is using a dying technology (cdma) but at this time, there is no denying that it is the fastest data in U.S. and sprint has alot of coverage nation wide.
i think it will be a couple of years before CDMA is completely out of the picture and anyone buying the touch pro will on to their next phone at that point.

i agree with basically everything you said. The phones are basically the same, and flashing sprint phones doesn't take anything special besides making sure the Rom/Kitchen is designed for Sprint. Which most of the ones on ppcgeeks.com are on sprint first anyways sometimes only sprint.
but if you do international traveling I would definitely get the ATT version, just so all you have to do is pop in a different SIM card.
But ultimately it just comes down to which plan you can get for cheaper I'd say, like for the same minutes/data.
I travel a lot. Several times a week, and both nationally and internationally.
I use the Kaiser on ATT, and unless I am out in the middle of God's country (like, say, Carroll Iowa... don't ask), I find 3G and H all over.
I haven't used Sprint in forever.... but, as far as data goes, ATT seems to have pretty great coverage.
Making it simple:
Sprint
+Cheaper plans
+slightly better up/down speeds (especially factoring in the iphone factor)
-Harder to Flash (?, based on what's said here)
AT&T
+Usable internationally
+Easier to flash (again, based on whats said here)
-Data more expensive unless you lie to AT&T about your device (possibly causing a huge bill someday)
-Data speeds a bit slower
beyond that I couldn't say much more that isn't placebo or really effected by too many other factors... Traditionally Sprint phones will use more power then their GSM counterparts.. but there's a lotta factors involved in this issue
Also, with the Sprint CDMA network you don't get the annoying sound of speakers freaking out when you walk around and your phone does things in your pocket, unlike the AT&T GSM network.
Although if you like to be a pain, you may prefer the speaker interference caused by GSM phones.
Yeah, i have the 3G iPhone now and it is always making speakers freak out. It's especially annoying in meetings when there is a conferance phone with speakers near all of the seats. I have to leave my phone at my desk! Not to mention the 9 billion dropped calls i get with this damn thing!

It's half true only.
The noise which you hear through speaker only appears when you're in GSM/GPRS/EDGE mode but not in 3G UMTS/HSDPA mode. Furthermore, all GSM phones on any carrier all around the world will do the same.
Hi all I'm new here, but have spent the last several hours searching for information that would help me to make an informed purchase, of a phone that runs android and can also be used with straight talk. I understand that walmart will be selling the nexus one. for 500 + unlocked. This phone should be able to run on straight talk. But I was wondering if there were any people out there who currently have an android phone running on straight talk and which phones would be capable of doing this and how it's done?
I don't want to start a flame threat about how bad you think straight talk is.. the bottom line is right now the $45 dollar price tag is the winner in unlimited.
Thanks.
Tag for later, interested if Android phones would work. I called Straight Talk, but the girl was unfamiliar with Android & thought it was a brand rather than an OS..
XDA should have the scoop on Straight Talk, pre paid unlim for 45 is better than paying 60.00 per month...From what I can tell the Walmart/Verizon contract is for 2 years, if it works thats 2 years of savings!
A friend just switched to Straight Talk & is very happy. His bill with Cricket was about 80.00 a month with roaming, he now pays 45.00 a month with better coverage. Cricket contracts with Verizon for roaming but omits some areas. Straight Talk appears to work in all Verizon areas.
Findout in about a week the scoop on flashing a Verizon phone to Straight Talk, if it works then its time for me to switch and look for an Incredible.
I have had an htc eris on the verizon version of straight talk (there is a gsm version of straight talk). I was only able to use sms and voice, no data or mms. It was difficult. Involved a donor MEID/ESN from a true straight talk phone
straight talk
here you can get your apn settings it works awesome.

Straight Talk is Really not that Great!! Trust me
Ok so I had Straight Talk for almost two years, and they were just fine, if you didn't have to call customer service. Recently I bought the Samsung T528G touchscreen phone-not quite the android, but worked pretty similar, you did not need the $45 plan-I got it anyway thinking I would be using it alot. I had the phone for 3 months and one morning I woke up and tried to use my phone to find out that it had been permantly disconnected by the company due to over use of the internet and improperly shutting down the internet, which it totally false. They refused to turn it back on and said I could buy another phone and start over again, but why would I want to stay somewhere that could do that to me again? Anyways I not really sure how long these android phones will last because I would think that those would use to much data and they would shut everyone that got them off permantly!!
Straight Talk - Android Phone
I have been using the straight talk phone as a backup when I travel to my dad's house in the country. It works great and there is no contract with the $45 unlimited plan it works great for me. I do have the android phone from straight talk I have had the Samsung precedent (which i dropped in the ocean, ugh) and now the Huawei M865C which is much better than the Samsung I previously had from them. The problem I see from the android phone's is that they are severely limited on space some only have about 384MB. That is ridiculous after you activate it and it updates the stock programs that's all of your space you can't download anything else to the phone. This is a real problem!
I want to root the phone, but I don't think it would be a good idea since the space is so limited. They do, however, now offer Sim cards for a one-time fee of $14.99 (This is in addition to the $45 unlimited plan), which you can use in any T-mobile or AT&T phone on the straight talk network. I know someone who has an AT&T Iphone working on the Straight Talk network it's pretty cool it works like normal. The only thing is you have to get the $45 unlimited plan, which i have no qualms with. I think that is what I will do do in the next couple of weeks. I am a techie and I can't live with this limited phone even if it is android. It's a good idea and a good plan though I'll have to say I am seriously contemplating leaving Sprint for good behind this idea.
I'll write back if I find an AT&T or T-Mobile phone to switch to so everyone will know how it works.
So what do you think, was this worth it. I think so.
This is what I weighed when I made my decision to switch: (impulsively maybe)
(1) Storage
Nexus One - 512mb (half taken up by OS), I provided a 16gb MicroSD (needing more, debated a 32GB for the past 4 months)
TB - 8gb, Comes with a 32gb MicroSD
(2) Network >
Nexus One - T-Mobile
TB - Verizon
(3) Monthly Bill >
Tmobile - Went up $10 three months ago to $130month
Verizon - 99.95 month
(4) Network Features and Coverage >
Tmobile - Normally getting EDGE Network, Spotty 3g, No 4G, Voice coverage not really that good either
Verizon - Strong 3G spotty 4G, Best voice coverage hands down of any provider
(5) Customer Service >
T-Mobile - Arab guy practically needed a translator to talk to me (kept asking me to repeat my self because he didn't understand)
Verizon - Cute sounding southern bell answered the phone and took care of my question fast and directly, no putting on hold to ask some one else and definitely didn't need a translator.
(9) Processors
Nexus One - 1ghz Snapdragon
Thunderbolt - 1ghz Scorpion
Pretty much a tie here I think. But from I could see at the Verizon Store and My current N1 using quadrant Thunderbolt (1870) slapped my N1 (1175) and then showed it who daddy was. Sorry N1 lost again.
(10) Phone Size (This was my biggest concern, pun intended)
Nexus One - Attractively big enough for any feature I want (Perfect size for a smart phone IMO)
Thunderbolt - A little on the big side with the screen being nearly .5 inches bigger as well the phone size being about the same width and height wise.
(11) Dev Support
Nexus One will probably devour any phone in the category
Thunderbolt should pick up the pace as it matures
(12) OS (Gingerbread AOSP Vs. Froyo Sense)
Nexus One - Gingerbread AOSP Stock or Tons of different Custom Roms, Google Supported of course (Reason for the N1 Love). Nice, clean and absolutely no BLOAT
Thunderbolt - Froyo with Sense. Honestly I love sense. Coming from and AOSP build and I couldnt be happier. I love the added widgets, the layout of sense is phenomenal, recent apps in the pull down is awesome. It just looks great. TONS OF BLOAT WARE though.
(13) Feature Set
Nexus One - APPS to SD (A must have for this phone), Free WIFI Tethering, Standard type Android settings menus, Trackball notifications (handier than I would have ever thought), Compatible with nearly any app that hits the market, call blocking support via Cyanogen MOD
Thunderbolt - APPS to SD (not even needed), WIFI Tethering with Paid subscription to VZ (downer, but possibly free with ROOT), Settings menus are not standardized with AOSP Android Releases making them a new learning curve
(14) Accessories
Nexus One - Packed Full of what ever you need, but need to find it on Ebay since most places are no longer carrying accessories for the phone.
Thunderbolt - Already a flooded market of accessories (major plus)
(15) Battery Life
Nexus One and Thunderbolt are about the same. N1's never got that great of battery life either. After my battery leveled off on my Thunderbolt, it has been pretty comparable.
So far this is the homework I have done to help with my decision. The monthly cost was not really a deal maker or a breaker for me since I was allready comfortable with it. The fact that T Mobile sold off to ATT is a little disheartening to me and leaves me anxious as to what I can expect from the most notorious of all the major carriers. That is what finally pushed me over the EDGE and in to the LiTE.
Yeah...the AT&T purchase made me switch from T-Mobile too..... but where do you get EDGE,let alone 3G!??!!? I always get GPRS with T-Mobile(Haven't canceled YET,trying a data only/VOIP plan on VZW).
I had a G2 and a Nexus one before coming over to Verizon. The phone is nice and dev is moving along considering the phone has only been out for a week. At least we know there will be a working sense Rom, cm7, and hopefully a miui build. To me theses were the bug three I'm worried about.

Only time I had called customer service and had someone hard to understand was when it was billing (collections cause I forgot to pay my bill) other than that almost always some chipper sounding girl or some guy sounding extra chill (read stoner)
And sucks you live somewhere with such spotty service, I live in Houston and had good 4G service. I switched cause I started having data freezes and AT&T buying them sold me.
Also what kinda plan did you have costing that much? I had 3 lines and it was only 160/mo.
I'm on flexpay 1400 mins family. It was $120 and without notice went to $130.
I get hsdpa if in Milwaukee. But if I leave to a smaller town I get nothing. Major problem for me when traveling.

I actually just dropped Tmobile for Verizon and the bolt. I did it for both the merger and because I wanted to get in on Verizon's Blistering fast LTE network before they went to tiered data. I wanted a grandfathered Unlimited plan.
Well that and the fact that I couldn't any service at all at my college, and crappy edge at home.
I just jumped from a N1 on ATT to the Tbolt. The only thing I miss is CM7 which we should get on the Tbolt soon enough. I don't miss ATT's spotty coverage. I find the Tbolt to be significantly more snappy than the nexus since I started running the new virus rom. The LTE speed and coverage in the DC area also blows away the N1 on ATT.
If you read consumer reports, Verizon has the best coverage, hands down across the country.
I finally decided to stop defending T-mobile and the spotty coverage. I paid T-mobile 79.99 per month for service and could only use what I paid for when at work.
Now I will pay Verizon 76.00 per month (including insurance). I get less minutes but at least I can use the minutes I have when I need to. Also with the strength of the Verizon LTE coverage in Atlanta, I should be able to make VOIP calls with Sipdroid, and Google Voice, and have people be able to hear me.
I finally decided, why pay for a service I can only use under certain circumstances.....
Switching from T-Mobile today. Going to miss my Nexus one. I have very fast HSPA+ service where I live. (suburb of Boston) The buy out just freaked me out. I own 4 phones, G1, BB9700, MyTouch 4G and the Nexus One and they will all become paper weights. That is why I am pissed off. I paid full price for every phone and you can be sure AT&T will not give me 4 devices to make up for the ones I bought. I figured I would jump on the unlimited data plan while I can and enjoy that blazing speed. I have the Verizon LTE working in my area. I am very excited about my new phone. Going to the local Verizon store in my town and buy me some Thunderbolt action. Then it's back home to root it. I was a die hard T-Mobile customer who enjoyed their Network and their customer service has always been nothing but first class to me. I'm hoping Verizon will be a great experience for me. Thinking about a future with AT&T and their lousy data capped plans doesn't sit well with me. I absolutely loved my Nexus One on T-Mobile. I changed Roms like underwear and will miss that. T-Mobile really let their customers down IMO. It was just a couple of weeks ago when I heard someone from T-Mobile say "T-Mobile USA is NOT for sale".
Yeah when you look at ATT's data plans they cap you at 5gb, that will easily be eaten up by slacker radio, pandora and soon netflix or streaming from your home computer.
Longtime GSM user, both AT&T and T-Mobile. I have a terminal aversion to CDMA but LTE looks intriguing. I use, roughly, between 13-20GB per month. Voice usage is almost nonexistent. I do text frequently.
I've been eyeballing a fellow coworkers Thunderbolt. (I'm also enititled to a 20% discount through work.) My questions:
Are you guys happy with your Thunderbolts? Like the screen? Does the LTE SIM work like GSM, just find another LTE phone pop and go? (I phone hop like mad!) LTE coverage in Ohio is actually pretty good. Your ETF is $350? (Once the AT&T&T mereger is done 12-16 months down the road I may switch back. Any general thoughts to add?
I'm happy to listen to anyone!!
I was a longtime ATT user (and Cingular before that, THOSE were the days) before switching for the TBolt. I enjoy the screen, better than my old Blackberry and since I mainly use texting/email on it instead of video, I actually prefer the screen to a SAMOLED. In theory, LTE SIM switching should work, but there hasn't been another LTE VZW device to test that with (another week and we'll know). And yes, ETF is $350 now, just like ATT.
Out of curiosity, why would you switch back soon down the road? ATT's (even if they acquire T-Mobile) "4G" technology is so far behind LTE that it's laughable. That's why I switched, ATT spent too long dawdling around not really improving their network infrastructure, at least where I live.
I use about 120 to 80 Gb monthly now that this is my only net connection. The best thing about it is the price monthly. I'm paying for a data only plan which is 50 a month unlimited before my 25 percent discount. For texting I use Google voice app and I have GV forwarded to a sipgate #, running SIPdroid on the tbolt to get my calls. Result is unlimited calls text and internet tethering for 37 bucks a month. Ya the phone ain't cheap upfront but it really is like having a cable modem in your pocket. I love it

I just got the T-bolt and I am impressed. Although I have not tasted any 4G yet, it is a very solid phone. The battery life is not great, but that is to be expected of such a device. Getting a bigger battery seems to be the only option. I love the screen and cannot wait to watch movies on it! Waiting for a netflix app

The LTE SIM does not work like GSM just yet. Verizon has it on a white list. They have to approve the device it will be in. They say that they are adding approved devices all the time but not sure which devices have been added. I think they are pushing more for the LTE SIM to be taken out of your phone and you put it in a camcorder, DSLR camera and make the devices shoot live feeds. I had read this on howard forums. I would love for HTC have it where you could custom build your phone and just pop in the LTE sim card. Just think pick your own screen, ram, internal memory, speaker, etc.

warning wall of text
I remember hating verizon for crippling the bluetooth on my v710? swearing never to go back. I've been GSM since cingular dropped tdma and I switched my 3360 and got a 6620. Then winmo starting with an htc wizard up until an HD2 that I converted to android. Wife has gone from thinking I'm nuts to giving up on my smartphone crack habit. Been mostly cingular/AT&T with a few bad romances with Tmo where I think "this time the reception will be better" (last time cause I really wanted the HD2). Then I walk out of the lumber yard and get 4 voicemails all saying generally wtf are you??
Then along comes the thunderbolt. I'm currently carrying an tmo HD2 running android and cause it's better than my fuze... a hacked beyond belief iphone on att. A friend hands me his verizon phone and I walk through my 7 story concrete/glass office building with the verizon, at&t, and tmo phone all showing signal strength. Tmo fades early as expected. There's a few times where verizon gets beat but most of the time it's got a 5 db advantage.
So a saleslady at the verizon store loans her thunderbolt and I try it in a fringe area (my house). Coverage is better with the thunderbolt and while at&t speedtests better and seems to load faster initially, verizon never hiccups and pauses like at&t and loads every single webpage before at&t completes.
So then the pro's cons.
I have 7 gsm phones all unlocked that I can bring up either att or tmo on but my att contract is up and my tmo is just a $5/mo family line that I just use text on.
unlimited data. I dont have 4g here but it's a chance to grandfather in on unlimited high speed data. Previous calls to at&t complaining about having 4 iphone non-tech unlimited users on my plan where I'm the geek yet I'm the only one without unlim data fall on deaf ears. I may not use the 5 gig I've got but it's a pain having to worry.
Verizon? Really? After laughing at people who were forced to use get it now to get their pictures off their phone? After swearing never to return when they crippled the firmware on the v710? And CDMA?
But the lure of unlimited data gets me to try a thunderbolt. I get in on a 1 year contract and I too get a healthy discount.
Fast forward 3 weeks. Rooted & flashed a non vzw rom after 4 days. 14 day return day came in went without a thought. The iphone is in my desk and the tmo hd2 will probably get turned into a winmo phone when I get time just to see if it's more than an xbox facebook extension. I find there are many times I havent even bothered to turn on wifi since web pages load without pauses, hiccups or waiting. Was going to hold out for a dual core but I've got no complaints. The screen colors seem much more vibrant than my hd2. I got the extended battery but even with not being able to put the phone down be it texting or internet I still last all day on the regular battery. Besides, by now I've got a usb charger about every 5 feet at home.
very tough call and it took a lot to get past going back to verizon and cdma but I'm glad I did. Sorry if I stepped on any toes windows phone, iphone, tmo fanboys, and grammar nazi's. Just MHO. Got a microcell to help not drop calls and still do on att. Verizon goes without extra help and doesnt drop calls. Texts are quick but break at 160chars. I use the phone to monitor several production unix machines so quick sms was imperative.
Drop me a line if you have other q's. I'm generally a lurker but always up for helping. Feel your pain in deciding..
Well this is my first smartphone so I don't have any comparison. But I love it. Love the screen and it's 4.3" of manlyness. I really never understood why people have such animosity for CDMA vs GSM. Yes I get the whole SIM card thing, but is that the only reason?
For me, it was the problem of no data while on a call. Never again AT&T, never again.

Longtime GSM user, both AT&T and T-Mobile. I have a terminal aversion to CDMA but LTE looks intriguing. I use, roughly, between 13-20GB per month. Voice usage is almost nonexistent. I do text frequently.

Just curious, but what do you have against CDMA other than you cant port to other carriers as easy as GSM? I found CDMA voice is generally better than GSM. The ThunderBolt still uses voice for CDMA so other than it being fast for data over what is considered GSM, it's still pretty much a CDMA phone in the sense it's locked to verizon (probably more so since you cant take it to other CMDA carriers either).
ATT will be going to LTE sometime next year as well though, so eventually when phones are using LTE for voice and data, you would be able to switch between carriers (assuming they both support the same frequency of LTE, there's 2 of them) and different phones on the same carrier
I love my tbolt. I went from a D1 to the TB, and was a little scared of leaving all the great ROMs, kernels and support on my D1 (was running CM7 nightlies with the deprimed kernel on droidforums and that thing ran more amazing than it ever did) but made the jump to get in on 4G before a rumored switch to tiered plans. And I couldn't be happier, I do miss CM and prime's kernels, but the devs have been putting out some great things on the TB. Adrynalyne and thatdudebutch have an amazing ROM with das BAMF 1.5 remix and I'm running imoseyon's lean xtreme kernel. And since development is young on this phone, I can only see it getting better
I wish I could recomend this phone over my Droid x but the battery life is so pitiful in comparison. Don't get me wrong I love the thunderbolt and having 4g is nice (Seattle) but having to be tethered to the wall on charger almost constantly is just annoying. My Droid x would go all day and had better outdoor visibility. The auto brightness on the tbolt is wack. The new blur on gingerbread also puts sense to shame. Onevgreat thing about the tbolt is the camera is really good and very fast. While the Droid x takes great shots it slow to snap them.
In short I'd recomend the Droid x over the thunderbolt.
My upgrade is in 4 days, and im thinking of the thunderbolt, i have no 4g in my area, they say by the holidays maybe.
That being said i love my incredible but want a bigger screen, is this work upgrading or should i wait until the next 4g phones come out. I only want an HTC phone.

I have heard that AT&T will *not* use the same bands as Verizon. Here is an article stating something less general, but indicative of this discrepancy:

Personally, I think it's worth it. The thing's fast, smooth, and powerful (insert joke here). It works well on 3g, and when 4g comes to you (or you travel to a 4g market), you will DEFINITELY not regret it!
I would consider waiting on galaxy 2. That thing looks like a complete beast.
Not you fat Jesus

Get the extended battery my phone now lasts 30+ hours when my Droid X would be luck to last 15 even with liberty installed.
Sent from my Gingerbreaded Thunderbolt.
Im just curious to what dual core phones will be coming out by HTC. I am also worried about these random reboots.
One other thing, but how is the developer community on this phone, im sure its huge being the only 4gphone.
Edit: make that second on vzw
Since it's verizon a dual core htc is a year away lol
And samsung is samsung...

The dev community here is freaking awesome. They've been busting ass to get stuff working, tweaked, and corrected. Great group of guys.
Alrighty then, anybody have the extended battery, how does it feel, i love mine on my incredible.
Well, my Incredible is up on Craigslist, if i sell it ill be on the thunderbolt!
Can I switch between my iPhone 4s and Skyrocket periodically using the same sim? I know I would need a micro sim adapter. I just wanted to know if once I got the micro sim into the Skyrocket would I need to call AT&T and get LTE speeds? Thanks
I switch between my iPhone 4s and skyrocket on a daily basis.
You do NOT need a micro sim adapter to do this, although it will make it easier.
You also will NOT be able to get 4G LTE access due to data plan restrictions and such, until you call AT&T for the plan switch.
assuming you pop the micro sim out of your iPhone, all you have to do is:
1. Fit it correctly in the sim slot and make sure all contact points touch each other. it may take a few positions and phone restarts before it recognizes the SIM.
2. Once the SIM is recognized, it will not allow for a data connection. To do this, you have to go to settings>wireless settings> mobile networks> access point names. Hit menu> New APN. Then google Media Net apn settings (i'm too lazy to type them out for you, sorry.) and save it. make sure the green dot is on your media net APN and not the ATT PTA one.
After that you should be up and running with HSPA+ data. Once you get the LTE plan from at&t, you can select the att pta one to get LTE speeds.
I don't have LTE anywhere near me (75 miles from NYC) so I haven't bothered trying. Also I prefer 3g for preserving my precious battery life
I was planning to do the same. As a iPhone users what's your opinion on the skyrocket?

I really appreciate that. Can I ask which device you prefer and why you got the skyrocket with the 4s? Thanks
I got the original galaxy s II for at&t on the oct 04 launch day. I had been missing my iPhone 4 for a while and when Siri came out I impulsively jumped on it and returned my OG SII. I used the iPhone throughout october and november and I started to realize that It just doesn't suit me well. First of all the only reason I liked the iPhone 4 so much was because the battery lasted 2-3 days no problem no matter what i was doing. Secondly, it did what it could do very well.
The iPhone 4s is the opposite. The battery lasts a little over a day. If i don't charge it overnight, i have to find a charger the next morning.
That, and the fact that it's not jailbreakable yet, steered me clear. I'm impatient when it comes to getting my phone to do what i want. Jailbreaking adds a lot of functionality, but i need it NOW.
So I won a sales contest and they gave me the prize of picking any phone I want from at&t's lineup.(I don't work for at&t though) I picked the skyrocket.
Heres a few things that I have used so far and often rely on that the iPhone doesn't do for me:
1. Free music downloading from mediafire, added right to my library.
2. Text answering machine app. With my job, if people can't figure out why i'm not answering them while my phone's charging, all hell breaks loose.
3. XDA support/themes (this place is just too addicting)
4. Occasional free hotspot usage.
5. Airdroid. I'm lazy and don't like to pick up my phone when i'm on the computer. With this app i can get notifications, read, and reply right from my computer.
6. Bigger, brighter (and sharp enough for me) screen.
7. The battery life is the same as the 4s, which is fine when I'm getting more features out of it anyway.
I use the skyrocket as my daily. And I don't mind the iPhone. I use it when i need iMessage(since 90/100 people that I know are using iPhones and it's a pain to group message on android)
But yeah, I hope i was informative with that. lol.
I have an iPhone 4s and a Skyrocket. iPhone sits in the drawer 95% of the time and I've had the last 3 versions of iPhone and loved them all. That's all I need to say.
