Help! Bricked Phone Warranty Dilemma - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I just received a new Fuze from AT&T as a warranty replacement (my old one was draining the battery quickly, overheating, etc.). I reverted the old one back to stock and that is ready to be sent back.
Now the issue: I opened up the new one. Powered on, seemed okay at the time (now I remember that I bumped it and it randomly reset at the carrier splash screen, didn't think much of it then, but clearly a problem). It seemed to work okay, so I flashed HardSPL and put on a custom ROM. Continued to work okay. Then I turned it off.
This morning, I go to turn it on, find it will not power on at all. Then I try again, after pulling the battery, and it starts booting, but then I jiggle it a little and it shuts off. Try it again, it freezes at the carrier screen. Basically it won't turn on.
Now I put the battery in the Fuze I'm sending back (which at least boots) and find that overnight, with the phone off, the battery dropped from 95% to less than 5%!
Basically I think this phone is a dud, but I need to get it back to stock SPL and ROM to send it back! I'm currently re-charging the battery in the old Fuze in the hopes I can get the new one to boot.
Any thoughts or solutions?

Still no luck in booting up even with a full battery...anyone have any ideas??

try this...it worked for me when i had a similar problem...!
1. Pull out the stylus.
2. With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and CENTER buttons, then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.
3. Continue pressing the RESET, VOLUME DOWN and CENTER buttons until you see this message on the screen:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press ?VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.

Yeah thanks I would definitely try to do a hard reset...problem is the phone won't turn on
Any other thoughts? I am thinking I will just have to send the phone back to AT&T as is in the hopes that it really is bricked completely and that they won't turn it on to find a custom ROM and HardSPL.

That sounds like a bad idea; if they find out you hacked the new one, they're gonna be pissed that you sent in the previous phone for exchange.
So, you can't get it into bootloader, to at least flash back to the stock rom? You said it wouldn't boot up, but how about plugging it in and seeing if you can get in bootloader? That's what I'd do. You actually don't need the battery once you're in bootloader, if you have it plugged into a wall charger or connected to a PC through a usb cable.

Basically, the phone stays dark what ever I do. I can't get into the bootloader or anything, the screen and all lights won't come on, period. The battery works fine in other phones as well. Very puzzling.

Any other ideas? I suppose if they do manage to get the phone to power on, I can just play dumb about HardSPL...I've even read about people getting phonse with HardSPL back from the warranty department. The phone is probably bricked anyway from what I can see, so I guess if they manage to spark it to life, I will just have to play dumb...

Power Button Doesn't Work

My power button does not work at all. It doesn't put the phone to sleep nor can it wake it up. Holding it down doesn't even give me an option to shut it down and presumably it can't turn the phone on either.
So basically I think I just wore the button down. Now in spite of that, is there a way to reflash a new ROM without being able to turn it on using the button? I mean, if I remember the procedure correction, you just have to turn it off to take the sim card out and to put it back in. Can I forgo this step?
I mean, I am just sliding out my keyboard to wake it up but I fear if my battery ever fully runs down.
Try to Hard reset your device..
To perform a hard reset
1. Pull out the stylus.
2. With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.
3. Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons until you see this message on the screen:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
4. Release the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Yup, didn't work. Am I boned if my phone ever turns off? Jeez, and I just received that extra battery too.
Is there a way to remap the sleep button to the PTT key?
you dont have to pull out the stylus or have the device on to do a hard reset. just turn on the device and immediately hit volume down and center. once the screen lights up you can let go then wait for the reset message and press volume up.
anyways, if you have a att fuze, take it in, its under warrenty, theyll replace it. in any case you need it fixed. you cant live your live hoping your battery will never die. you cant turn it on or flash a new rom or anything without a working power button. if you dont have att im sure you can call htc and tell them you want it fixed and theyll mail you the supplies to get it shipped. just hope you can live without it for a couple days. its youre only options if you want it working.
I came back here all excited to post that it suddenly started working but it is back to the way it was.
The phone is really old so it's just of warranty and I don't think it is worth it to have it fixed when so many other problems are wrong with it. I guess it's time to be looking at new phones.
And now the power button is working. This phone just boggles the mind, people. I'm sure it'll stop working in a couple of hours though. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Maybe a short due to rain or something? Worn down contacts?
Same power button over here.
Sorry for reply on an old article but Google won't help me. I'm havin' the same problem. Na responds on the power button neither can i do a hard reset.
Anyone has a sollution. Phone is out of warranty ...
Is it a hadware problem of something with the software. Still has the (updated) stock rom. I've tried to reflash it with this latest rom but this didn't solved the problem.
Solved (for the time being..) The button seemed to be stuck. With my fingernail I managed to 'lift' it.

Raphael not charging/booting anymore

Hey there,
I have seen quite a few threads on similar cases, but I am not sure whether this is not a specific one that you know what to do on. My Touch Pro is not charging/booting anymore.
I have successfully run my Touch Pro with a custom WM6.5 ROM (and others before) from bauner located here for weeks now. Never had any anomalities or problems with my battery or its lifetime.
I plugged my phone into my AC charger yesterday since it had low battery, and it produced a loop of charging/not charging cycles... it was charging some seconds, then it stopped so that I got the warning (very low battery I think), then charging some seconds, stopping a while... I kept it on, thinking it was because it was almost down to zero, but it had not charged at all over night. Plugging it in again in the morning brought it up to 7%, but still no luck to get further.
I took it to another place and tried to charge without the SIM, and this time it started charging and didn't stop as yesterday. I had it up to 89%, turned it off, put in my SIM and was welcomed with the message that my Touch Pro has too low battery and will shut down. When plugging in the cable, either PC or AC adapter, the LED indicates charging twice and dies on the third flashing, always at the exact same time (half of the third flashing of the LED).
I have neither installed nor changed anything on the system for weeks without problems with it (apart from a crashing Tmail/Outlook every now and then). Especially that it always dies on the third flashing of the LED AND that it seemed to have charged 89% while returning a the low battery message keeps bugging me.
Would you think this is a dead battery (have the phone (new) since early June!) or more related to either a faulty ROM or simply the cable? Any advice is welcome!
Maybe you have a bad battery or bad contacts. I bet that pulling the sim card (and removing/replacing the battery) may have temporarily fixed the issue, but when you put the sim back in, it came back. It's just a guess, but that's what I would suggest looking into. Maybe the contacts in the phone need to be pulled out a bit. If you can't fix it, then flash back to stock and take it in for service or exchange.
Hey there,
I checked the pins for the battery and adjusted them slightly. The funny thing is that I sometimes get the case that I unplug the cable & the LED signalises that the battery is charging. Plugging the device in again gives the 2 1/2 LED flashes, then nothing.
I'd really love to take the route of putting on the stock ROM and send it in if it helps. Unfortunately with a device that is not charging I cannot flash a new ROM... if you know something that I don't know, please let me know .

If you pull plug the phone in through the usb and have enough charge on the battery to get into bootloader, it doesn't matter if the battery is in or not (seriously, you can remove the battery pre-flash, and as long as it's plugged in, you're good to go). So, the thing to do would be put it in bootloader, then hook it up to your pc through the usb and run the flashes. It should work fine.

What do you mean exactly? When I download a ROM I have a wrapper which needs a switched-on device for flashing. How can I get into 'bootloader' and flash a ROM? Sorry for my noobishness . And thanks for your previous help.
Well, what you do is press and hold volume down and then press soft reset. Keep holding the vol down until the tri-color screen appears. Then hook up the usb cable to the phone. It should say 'usb serial' or something like that on the bottom of the screen. Then you should be able to run the flash. Once you're in bootloader and plugged in, you can actually remove the battery without having the phone shut off, so your battery issues won't matter. You should be able to flash that way with no problems, but read the flashing threads to make sure you do the rom/radio flash and the stock spl flash properly. I've never done those, so I couldn't tell you the exact procedure. I always flash off of my sd card, too. You can flash the stock rom/radio off your sd card if you rename the image RAPHIMG.nbh, but I'm not sure you if you can flash the spl off of your sd card. You have to get the info from the hard spl thread.

Well, thanks for your kind tips. But this is what I get: I push the vol. down button on the left side of the device and press the soft reset button on top of the device. Be it only the vol. button which I hold afterwards or both (vol/soft reset), my Raph doesn't go further than the boot screen (touch pro) and exits with the message that the phone won't load because of too low battery. So I can't get into tri-color boot screen at all. I could read in how I can revert back to stock spl, but I cannot even get far enough with my device... damnit.
Nobody having an idea? Changing the charging cable doesn't help, so it must be either the battery or, even worse, the device that got broken somehow, from one day to another...
Know anyone else with the same phone? borrow their battery / use their phone to try & charge yours.
Try to get atleast a partial charge from a dekstop charger (try your local phone store - say your phone wont charge properly & you want to check the battery before buying a replacement).
Also (i just tried it) i can enter the bootloader without the battery in at all. Plugged into the mains charger (USB didnt work). Put the battery in (dont try to turn the phone on), take the battery out (i waited for the charge indicator to have done 1 "breath"). Then (no battery & still plugged in to the mains) press & hold vol-down, and press & release the soft reset. Voila - bootloader!
I then removed the power so the phone died as it still had no battery in, replugged power, and again could enter the bootloader. I guess when it tried to / started to charge the battery it charges a capacitor on the phone giving it enough power to start, then as soon as its alive, it can draw power from the charger.
Hope this helps!
Yeah, just plug it into the wall charger and go into bootloader. Then flash your stock rom/radio of an sd card. That should work fine, and who knows, maybe the battery will charge. If it does, keep the stock rom or try a different custom rom. If not, try to flash the spl off the card, but like I said, you should very carefully read the instructions for flashing spl's, because I'm not sure if you can flash them off an sd card (you can't flash hard spl that way, but maybe you can flash the stock spl in the hard spl thread that way).

Well, when i did i bricked it! Managing to flash the spl back to the phone - unfortuantly it then spat its dummy out & gave me a SPL/ROM upgrade error - which i couldnt get past, as i no long had hard spl.... Ended up sending it back with a blantent error on the screen, but the good ppl at t-mobile service decided it was the main board (there was a seperate fault with the usb port) causing the problems so fixed it FOC for me!
My advice is NEVER flash Hard SPL off (i mean remove hard - back to stock) using the SD card unless you are starting with a fully servicable phone & are prepared to have a good play in MTTY to recover any problems!
But seriously, if the phone is mostly stock - and wont boot (you really might wanna check a known good battery first!) then the techs arent likely to notice as they will be in the same boat as you!
Well, thanks for your tips, I will try to follow them accordingly (and I am happy it should work, mates!). In the meanwhile I ordered a brand new battery for like 20$ (which seems cheap here in Europe) to see whether it is the battery that is ****ed. I will still look and see how I can get a new ROM installed from my SD card in the hard spl thread (or somewhere else).
Thanks for discussing, one question remaining: I am thus bound to my hard SPL since I shouldn't apply it from an SD card as long as the phone won't boot? (My new battery will tell me if it will ever boot or not).... once I figured that a new ROM A-N-D a new battery are not helping, I'll send it in and along some prayers that they won't find out.

You need to hold the volume down button, and poke the reset button (thats the little hole to the right of the usb port) with your stylus. When the tri colour screen comes on let go of the volume down button.
Well, I tried getting into bootloader the way you described it.
1.) When having the phone plugged in and putting in the battery afterwards, no "breath" (as you called it) is coming. I need to plug in the cable again to have the LED flashing.
2.) I then remove the battery after the first breath.
3.) I press and hold the vol. down button on the left side and press the soft reset button on top once and wait. Start screen with Touch Pro line comes.
4.) The device turns off again, no warning (anymore) or anything. When I keep holding the vol. down button the phone repeatedly restarts with TP line appearing, short vibra, restarting....
Is this common behaviour in a known scenario (e.g. when the device is bricked or something)? Can I put it into trash ?

Wait: isn't that the hard reset button you are talking about?! Still the same behaviour though, no matter which button I press, be it the one on top or the little hole right to the USB connector....
To hard reset you hold hold down the power button on the top, the volme down button on the side and then poke the reset button

To sum it up:
1.) Plugging in the cable with battery in, removing it, holding vol.down and pressing either of the buttons (top/bottom of device) will get me into the TP screen loop.
2.) Plugging in the cable and leaving in the battery and pushing & holding vol.dwn and using stylus for bottom button gives no reaction at all.
3.) Same as above, but pressing button on top of the devices gives TP screen and 'low battery' message before shutting down.
4.) An observation: plugging in the cable and removing the battery after the first "breath" lets the LED make its 2 1/2 cycles EVEN though the battery is off. It stops at the same point. How can this be? A sign that my TP is the fault and no battery at all ?
Thanks for your help anyway!!
I'd say its the battery, but only because you cant get it to boot up. Im no expert though. Ive never bricked a phone so I dont know how it reacts when its screwed.

Thanks, I wasn't sure on the spl flash, but I'm not surprised it has to go off the pc. Hopefully, I'll never have to go there.
It sounds to me like a problem in the charging circuit, once the phone has woken, it should be able to draw power from the mains charger without the battery in. You said that it simply dies without warning - ie its not drawing power to run from the mains charger, and without a battery (no matter how low on charge) there isnt any power available to produce a warning message.
Assuming i'm right (and it should be faily easy to prove at least in part) when you get your new battery, it will probably come with a partial charge. That should let you boot your phone & flash a new rom & restore the spl - then you can return it in a stock condition.
Please be very careful with flashing on a low (below 50%) battery, you wont be able to do it from the pc, but you can from the SD card (instructions in the rom fourm). I'm not sure if the 50% minimum applies to the hard spl restore or not, but you would be wise to get everything you need ready / read it all so you can flash before the battery drains too much (ie dont play with the phone once you get the new battery, boot it once to see the charge status, then power off. Copy the nbh file to the sd card via the pc & card reader, load phone into bootloader & go. Dont bother setting up windows, flash the spl back to stock.)
Good luck!

broken fuze. powers on as soon as battery is popped in

So I've had my fuze a little over a year now, no major issues. Used mostly energyroms, but about December time I switched back to a simple non-bloated stock rom for the stability.
Anyway today at work I was texting, and I press the power button to put the phone in standby. And the screen remains on and usable. I tried again and it would not go into standby (power button physically feels normal, it does not feel loose or abnormal.) So i let it sit for a few minutes, then i look at it and a message poped up asking if i wanted to turn the phone off (like as if i was holding the power button)so i press no, then it comes up again a few seconds later and aagain and again. So I soft reset the phone.
The phone resets but takes a LOT longer at the att/htc splashscreen, then it hangs at the htc screen and does not make it to the wimo screen, but instead an error screen saying:
"The device is unable to boot because you have either turned off the device incorrectly or tried to install an applicationa from an untrusted source, press SEND to reset your device or press any other button to cancel..."
I think it went through the hard reset this time because when it restarted it asked to calibrate the screen and install stuff. it resets again sometime after that, still takes forever at the splash screen and comes back up to the error, only this time no matter what button i press it wont go away and boot into wimo. It seems like none of my buttons work (they wont light up now) when i slide out the keyboard, it is not lit up like normally.
And heres the kicker, my only way to turn on/off the phone is to take out/put in the battery. As soon as I pop the battery back in the fuze turns on. Is my phone toast? Ive tried to hard reset and the phone does not reach the bootloader, it goes straight to the splash screen. Same with trying to reflash it from my comp, raphealwrapper cannot find my phone.
I've only recently encountered the exact same problem on my Touch Pro, but stock ROM and everything. As far as I can tell, our power buttons are busted and probably need to be serviced. One of the contacts must be stuck in the 'on' position somewhere inside :\ As a temporary fix, I've been using AEButton Plus and remapped double tap end call key to turn the screen off, and removing the stylus to turn it on.

[HELP] Unrooted Nexus 5 randomly shut off, now frozen on Google logo at startup

I didn't drop it or get it wet or anything, it was just sitting on my desk and it randomly shut off. I've tried shutting it off and on again but it just comes back to the google screen where it sits frozen for about 30ish+ minutes before it shuts off, I can't turn it off otherwise, if I try turning it off it just turns itself back on so I can't shut it off. Is there anything I can do to save my data (or even better, fix my phone) or am I screwed? I also don't have USB Debugging turned on so I can't get stuff back that way either. My phone is not rooted and running stock android 5.1.? (Don't remember my exact version but I think I've missed the last 2 minor updates)

I has an issue with it a few months ago with the power button but it was stuck in a constant bootloop (I later found out that the power button was physically stuck, and a few hard flicks fixed it) , now it's just frozen on the google logo for 30-40ish minutes and then it shuts off by itself. Could that still be an issue with the power button?

I'm kinda confused on how this is the power button. On a working Nexus 5, if you hold the power button down the phone just continually resets, now it freezes on bootup and doesn't shut off for a really long time. Then after it shuts off, you have to manually turn it back on (then it just freezes again). I feel like this is could be a software issue but I might be wrong.
I've seen posts saying to reset the cache partition. Will that wipe the data on my phone?
I went into recovery mode (Does this mean the power button is fine, since I could successfully navigate the boot menu) and tried to format the cache and it says it was wiping /cache for about 20 minutes then it shut off and the notification light started blinking red and the phone wouldn't turn on at all when I held the power button. I assumed this meant the battery died during the cache wipe (Is that what the red light means, if so is that bad?) so I plugged the phone in. After about 30 seconds I could turn it on again, but it just holds at the google screen again. I'm really starting to freak out as I have some unbacked up data. Even if I can't fix the phone, is there any way I could save the data? I have a locked bootloader and USB debugging is turned off (Yes, I'm an idiot).
It does sound like a faulty power button. Since it's very cheap to fix, I would first find a local lab to change the button. At least rule out that..
If you can't fix the phone, you cannot get the data.
Also, be carful with bootloader and adb, so you don"t accidentaly erase your data.

The nearest phone-repair shop is like 45 minutes to an hour away from me so I want to be sure this is it. How exactly would a faulty power button cause this to happen? The phone isn't acting like the power button is permanently held down or not held down at all and I was able to get through the boot menu to the clear cache partition menu which requires use of the power button (And has the shut-off and blinking red light interrupting the cache clear made things worse), all that seems to be happening is the phone freezes during boot-up.

This sentence points all fingers at the power button
"I've tried shutting it off and on again but it just comes back to the google screen where it sits frozen for about 30ish+ minutes before it shuts off, I can't turn it off otherwise, if I try turning it off it just turns itself back on so I can't shut it off"
If you turn it off and it comes back on. it's the power button
Some symptoms of a faulty power button
If your LG Nexus 5 keeps rebooting for no reason to the Google Logo only
you cannot lock the screen
screen locks on its own
phone turns off for no reason during regular use
Lock/power Button is VERY sensitive to touch

The power button is not dead, it's faulty, and behaves erratically. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. It's an educated guess. If you put in a lab, and it's not the power button, perhaps they will know what else could be wrong. It's your call.
Just got back from the repair shop, it's not the power button, it's some unknown software issue. They can't fix it. Anyone have any ideas?
This is very odd. I am not aware of any software issue that can prevent a physical shutdown of a phone. Was this a reputable lab?

The phone shut itself off after a period of time, but holding the power button just restarts it. They replaced the power button just to be sure and it didn't fix it.
When you connect the phone to a PC does it show up? Can you copy your data? If not, I don't think you can save the data.
One more thought: If you put the phone in bootloader state, does it still shut down or restart by itself?
I just talked to the phone repair people and they said they just found out it's not software, a circuit in the motherboard got fried and they only way they could fix the phone would be to swap out the motherboard.
That is a 200$ reapair. Before you do that or give up on your phone try my guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/nexus-5-stuck-boot-loop-lollipop-t3098632
I had a different problem but was also told by the local LG lab that it was the motherboard. It wasn't,
If my guide does not help, it probably is a hardware issue. See if the lab has an insurance deal. Over here they suggested to sell me a one year insurance for 150$ , and change the motherboard. That would have saved me 50$....

I think my power button assassinated itself

So heres the situation. I woke up, and tried to press the power button once, which i do to get it to show the lock screen, that didnt work so I hit the home button and didnt think anything of it. Eventually it occured to me thats not normal, so I tried holding the power button to see if the reboot options would pop up, and again nothing. So without thinking I took the battery out, put it back in, and as Im sure you can guess, nothing. The phone is rooted and has TeamWin recovery, but I did that the same day the Marshmallow update was available, so its been working fine for weeks, then all of the sudden this happens. Im 100% positive its nothing I did rooting the phone weeks ago, I just wanted to eliminate that as a possibility.
So as it stands, my phone is off, adb wont recognize it while its off, so rebooting into recovery that way isnt a option, getting into recovery pressing the hard keys isnt a option. Anyone else had this issue, or know of a quick fix solution? Im open to anything, that doesnt require taking the phone apart. Because I dont want to, because I hate going there, but Ill take the phone to sprint if I have to.
Also, when its plugged in it shows the charging screen.
In short, its not bricked, its not stuck in a bootloop, basically, is there a way to turn it on, aside from the power button?
Any and all help is appreciated, and thanks in advance.
I actually just got it to turn back on, then I was hit with a constant "Unfortunately NetworkSystemProvider has stopped" and its 4am, I dont feel like messing with this, so I did a factory reset, and if this doesnt work Im either going to throw it off a overpass, or just turn it back off and wait to take it to sprint, because if I had a hard time getting it to turn on Im sure they will to.
