Ok I am no newbie to this, but I am sick of the frustration that comes with this problem. I've had me TC for a couple months now and it will not be recognized with my PC. I've had this problem before.... deleting the partnership, changing the USB ports and settings, downloading the newest sync software, and shutting down the fire wall, yet nothing works. The only thing I can do is use Bluetooth, which is to slow to transfer files. I need some help here, because even backing up everything on the phone and doing a hard reset takes too long to restore what I have on it now.
try to unmark ->settings->connections->usbtoPC-> enhanced network functions.
sorry, i have a german one, so look for that function.
I have the same problem with my o2 xda orbit 2.
I found that if I turned off the bluetooth and wifi it connected ok but even that seems to have stopped working now.
I got it back
I shut off the windows firewall with Vista and it works every time now. This is odd since I always had it on before and never made a change to the settings. In fact once I had given permission for windows mobile center to run with the security I never had this problem before. All I can say is it is a serious pain to disable it every time I want to access my files on the phone.
the joys of activesync......
I'm running XP-Pro on both my home and desktop PC's
with my orbit 2 I have no problem connecting at home, but failed miserably at work (other than the first time after I'd installed activesync).
I'd concluded that it was my firewall settings (which are outside of my authority to alter) we're the cause of the problem and gave up.
What usually happens is an activesync connection is established (I alway click on cancel in the first box - because I don't want to sync files etc, just to be able to explore and install software), and then when I click on explore (after it says connected) it just hangs for a minutes or so, before disconnecting.
However, I hooked up my Orbit2 to my laptop in my hotel last night (to charge) and I noticed that I could explore. OK I thought, it was the firewall.
But then today I tried exactly the same thing, and we're back to the non communicating version.
Any ideas,
Any ways to force activesync into submission - even if just at the explore level?
Thanks
simple joys
Well Vista doesn't use active sync, but I'll try to give you what I have learned. First it always helps to have the latest version of the software. I'd delete active sync from the computer and end the partnership on the phone. The phone then says to hook it up with a computer to establish a connection. Before you do restart both. Download newest version from windowsmobile, install and restart again. Disable firewall and any antivirus ( it makes a difference ) and try to establish the new partnership. If that doesn't work sometimes the comm ports are wrong and you have to find out which your phone uses. Once I had a Moto Q9h unbranded that would not sync with USB no matter what I did from the start, but it would work with a bluetooth sync. That was the worst speed ever. Anyway Good Luck.
Thanks,
yes I am using the latest (for XP) active sync.
I also uninstalled it / re-installed it
I also deleted the profile
All to no avail
Virus / Firewall settings are locked on this laptop.
Same problem
I'm using vista, uninstalled and reinstalled the last version of ActiveSync, deleted the partnership and the phone does not not connect to the pc. I dunno what to do .
p.s. : firewall is off.
no sync with xp and vista
hi
I see that Im not alone...Isync my polaris with my personal pc (vista 32) and with my professional pc (xp pro).
my rom is Aserg (many rom tested before like Bepe....same PB)
its impossible to sync both pc. I have to erase partner ship each time I want to sync.
Im not sure, but I think that windows 61 is responsible. Is that possible ? thank you for helping me !

You said you updated active sync, but Vista doesn't use that program. You need to use Windows mobile device center. If you go to windowsmobile.com there is an update you can download that you install with the phone connected. That might work.

You have to delete every time, because once it is synced with one computer it establishes a relationship with that pc or laptop. The two operating systems use two different programs, but really the computers should have the partnership saved. I'm not sure if the phone can have two as well though.
I love the phone but I cannot believe that its so hard to sync with Vista via Bluetooth. It has the latest mobile software and vista is the new OS, how can they **** things up so badly?
I know there are some issues with the Sony Vaio Bluetooth stack. Its super confusing and the Bluetooth settings are hard to find.
Is it actually possible to Sync with Bluetooth to vista from WM6? Has anyone got this working?
Thanks, even a yes or no would be great here, so that I know if I'm wasting my time.
Ben
I did. After connecting my TP to the PC via bloetooth, i synced them, but using the phone's ActivSync, and not the Windows Mobile Device Center.
You need to go to your phone and instruct a "bluetooth activesynce".
It worked fine for me and my Vista SP1, using a dead-cheapo USB-bluetooth adapter.
Got it working too. Paired the 2 devices and entered passcode. Then started AS on the phone and selected Connect using BT and off it went. No problems what so ever.
Its good to hear that it works for people.
I think its an issue with the Sony Bluetooth stack. I can pair the devices but the device doesn't show that the laptop has activesync, just wireless stereo. I think I might hate Sony more than Microsoft, Mac next time for sure, so so sick of Vista and spending a week online working things out.
Its a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone has it working on a Sony Laptop with Vista?
Thanks for the replies and listening to me moan.
Indeed, having the same problem with Toshiba Bluetooth Stack. No Activesync profile when searching for available profiles. Is the any solution on how to add the "Activesync profile"?
my phone found the desktop with bluetooth and i checked activesync and on the phone i hit connect bluetooth it works fine but i hit sync and nothing happens?

Did you try this https://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsMobile/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2382825&SiteID=65
I had the same problem with my VAIO TZ and my Tytn II, didn't try with the TP yet.
Apart from replacing the drivers, I seem to remember there was a trick related to changing the COM Port or something (the default port was incompatible with Activesync) but I'm afraid I don't remember. I'll give it a go when I have time to connect both, but it may not happen until I getmy new laptop.
EDIT: forget the above, that's the trick I half remembered (and used): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397419

If this is the case, try adding comm port for both your laptop and tp. Outgoing for TP and incoming for laptop. Then you need to set Windows Mobile Center to connect via COM?? (?? is the number you've chosen)
ActiveSync connection (via bluetooth) is actually a comm port connection.

Try removing the pairing and rebond.
It also works fine for me with Vista (non-SP1), newest version of Mobile Center, and a Bluetooth dongle with Microsoft stack.
This worked for me
I used many websites, a lot with very similar advice, but none specific to the HTC touch Diamond conundrum.
However, this is a very useful step by step guide:
http://www.inspectmygadget.com/2007/05/31/how-to-connect-your-wm5-device-to-wmdc-via-bluetooth/, which although provides advice for WM 5, is still the same principle.
The advice below is device specific
I use:
HTC Touch Diamond (with WM 6.1)
WMDC 6.1
Bluesoleil V6 Bluetooth Dongle
Although I had found the above advice on previous websites, and it had not worked I remained persistent.
I was able to find 'Activesync' as a service when, on my PC, changed the WMDC connection settings to COM 3.
However every time I tried to 'connect via BT' on my device, it said 'no partnership existed......'.
I therefore established some more com ports on my computer (in addition to COM 3, COM 4, COM 5 which I had taken authorisation off of):
COM 6
COM 7. Both without authorisation.
I then used the trial and error method to find which com port would broadcast 'activesync' to my device. It was still COM 3.
However, on trying 'activesync via BT'on my device this time, it began to connect!!!
I am not sure whether opening up the extra ports (COM 6 and COM 7) or whether my computer/device decided it was now the time to play ball since it realised I was about to take a cricket bat to it worked but it now syncs fantastically.
NB: There was no need to reinstall any software or windows operating system (as some other posts on other websites have suggested)
I still cannot get this to work. I couldn't on my Sprint Touch and now I can't on my Touch Pro.
I have Vista Home Premium SP1 with WMDC 6.1
Computer was formatted to factory settings today. Touch Pro is new as of yesterday.
I paired the phone to the computer and the computer to the phone. ActiveSync was a profile available for the computer and I made sure it was ticked.
I plugged in the phone via USB and set up the partnership. All is good there.
When I open ActiveSync on the phone and click "connect via bluetooth" it tells me it cannot open the port.
This is the exact same problem I had with my Touch. The computer is newly formatted and isn't communicating with any other bluetooth device at all. How can the port not be available? I've tried the regedit. Tried making incoming ports on the computer. No avail. However, I cannot make new outgoing ports on the phone. The tab is there but no option to do so.
Any help?
Thanks in advance
EZ Solution
I just found an easy solution for u guys who using Toshiba Bluetooth Stack ...
U guys no need to remove anything ...
All u need to do is verify the COM port of ur bluetooth ...
1. Go to the “Bluetooth Local COM” Applet in your Control Panel
2.Open “Bluetooth Local COM” applet where you will see a list of Ports
3. The Corerct port you need to use is
“COM7 Toshiba BT Port (COM7) LocalCOM-Server[SerialPort(TOSHIBA LocalCOM)]
and not “COM6 Toshiba BT Port (COM6) LocalCOM-Client”
From this guy here ... << http://thinkabdul.com/2006/10/12/tu...c-via-bluetooth-with-toshiba-bluetooth-stack/ >> TQ sir ...
Then ... u guys need to use ur REGEDIT to find this ...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
Notice there is SerialPort ?? yes ... JUST CHANGE THE string 'Bluetooth' to COM7 ...
After this just pair ur wat ever PDA u've got & thats it ... u got the ACTIVESYNC in the advance option of the services available ...
Hope u guys enjoy !!!
P/S :- BTW i just bought my HTC TP 2 weeks ago ...
woks perfectly!!!
many thanks.
Has anyone been able to get ActiveSync to work over Bluetooth in Vista with a 2125? Which English ROM will I have the best of luck with as my USB Bluetooth on my desktop computer running vista ultimate x86 keeps telling me that my phone doesnt support activesync over bluetooth.
Also where can I get the Stock Cingular ROM for my 2125?
Can anyone point to to a guide on how to set it up?
any ideas?
many thanks,
SG
No one has because you dont need Active Sync in Vista, Vista comes preloaded with Windows Mobile Device Centre
Sorry I meant to say "Windows Mobile Device Centre"
I cant tell if it is becuase of my USB BT Dongle or my 2125. When I try to esablish a BT ActiveSync connection from my 2125 it says there is no partnership setup with a computer that supports activesync. yet I believe my BT Dongle does.
Any ideas?

Have you done a wired sync with that computer before? If not, you should do it. I've read that in the past. It fixed a sync problem with one of my phones, however, I've done it w/o too and it works. Have you created a BT Partnership between your computer and your phone? When you create the partnership, click on Advanced, re-confirm the PC name, then on the Services Window, checkmark Active sync. Then open active sync on phone, and click on right menu and chose Connect via BT. It should work. Good Luck!
EDIT: The partnership has to be created from the phone, not from the PC. If created from the PC, as far as my experience, it'll create a Modem Dialup connection partnership that will allow the PC to connect to the internet via BT using Wap connection on your phone. If you do want to create that too, use *99# as the dialup phone number. Leave blank the User name and PW.
Thanks for the reply.
When I try to setup a partnership from the phone I see my computer but I only see 3 service. Stereo somthing, handsfree, and something else but none of which are active sync. Yet when I look on my computer I see that activesync is in the list and selected.
I have a IOGear BT211 (Broadcom 2045) USB Dongle running in Vista Ultimate SP1.
Could it be my BT211 Driver? I have the latest version 5.1.x
Thanks,
Well the new phone I bought has all the drivers for Vista on CD. But its installed on my son's Laptop and he don't let daddy get nearby his toys LOL so, I really couldn't help more. I do know active sync works over BT with Vista. So I guess you'll have to keep trying. Do you have any instalation CD for your phone? From what I remember, if you don't have the "Outlook" that comes with the phone instalation, you might not be able to. I remember it didn't work untill we installed the one on the phone CD. All though, his Laptop had MS Office already installed. So... take a look around that.
My Bad. I had the wrong Window drivers installed for my BT on my desktop. LOL. Who would have though that the Windows XP drivers wouldnt work under Vista? lol
Thanks for the help.

activesync (Windows Mobile Device Center) via bluetooth on Vista
I went through a similarly difficult experience with a Lenovo laptop. I blogged about it here:
http://mitchwyle.blogspot.com/2008/11/activesync-via-bluetooth.html
It's easier if I just post a link to the thread over at smartappsworld so I'm not stuck re-writing it all. http://smartappsworld.com/thread-t...-getting-error-692-hardware-failure-in-modem
I still have not been able to resolve these issues. Tethering worked without problems on my Q9M, but on the TP2 it gives me error 692 -There was a hardware failure in the modem - . Internet sharing isnt cooperating either. New hardware wizard in XP pops up for Generic RNDIS device. When I tried to feed it some drivers for Internet Sharing (pulled by another xda member in another thread here somewhere), XP gives me some bogus error about a missing entry in one of the .inf files that I pointed it towards. It doesnt specify which file, then it closes and there is a big yellow ( ! ) over Internet Sharing device in network devices (Driver not installed).
Thats a quick run through of the issues I'm dealing with. I really need this working as this is my only way to connect my PC to the internet. I live in boonie land where cable is nowhere in my neighborhood and dsl is too far to connect.
Yes I searched. I spent a great deal of time going through xda forums and Google... before I decided to post here. Thanks for anyones help in advance.
T.C.
I have not had a problem tethering my tp2 with verizon using Win XP Pro x64, or XP home x86.
The way that works for me is:
Run the internet sharing program, Not the VZW access manager crap.
Tell it to connect
After it connects, then plug in usb from pc to phone
The pc recognizes it as another network connection
It gets its IPs and all no problems.
Open up your choice of browser and off you go.
I have never had to install drivers to do any of this, and also it doesnt use active sync when doing it this way.
hope this helps.
I pulled the internet sharing program out of the Windows folder (made a shortcut ). The problem is when I connect to the PC. The install new hardware wizard comes up for Generic RNDIS device. This is after I clicked "Connect" in IS. I have clicked cancel , then it says install failed, your new hardware may not work properly. IS disconnects and Activesync starts syncing. I tried it the first way , letting AS sync once then turning IS on, same problem.
I dont use VZ Access Manager. I was forced to uninstall that and Activesync when suddenly the PC wouldnt recognize anything while the phone was plugged in. After that, the phones internet wouldn't work either so I then had to restore the phone to factory defaults via a hard reset. After resetting, I found that 228 wouldn't program the phone. The next day I nearly took it in to VZW. tried 228 again and it worked finally. Got my phone internet back and I'm back to trying to get IS working. I didn't install VZAM, but I do have the USB driver installed.
Are there certain files that are needed on XP for this? I am still running 32bit XP Pro if that makes any difference. Service packs maybe? I'm up to the point where I'm about to go out and buy a WiFi card and try connecting it that way. Something Has to work here.
The generic RNDIS ( Remote Network Driver Interface Specification ) drivers are part of the ActiveSync install and are needed for TCP/IP between the PC and the phone.
Install ActiveSync.
Plug in the phone.
Don't cancel the New Hardware Found - let it install the drivers.
Set up a sync relationship with the PC if you like - not needed.
When you tell ICS to connect, it should drop any other connection to the PC (Hard Drive, Active Sync) and make the Windows connect sound. Then you should see the network negotiation icon in the System Tray as it sets up the internet sharing.
When I dont cancel New Hardware wizard, it doesn't find any drivers to install. This is if I let it search for drivers automatically, and after Activesync is installed. See what the problem is here? What should normally work, doesn't. Are there key files missing in the copy of Activesync that is included on the CD from VZW? What am I missing here? When I turn Internet sharing on, on the phone, it always says something like ''Check USB cable connection'' and it never changes. The hardware wizard never finds the drivers, and when I try to point it towards driver files, it says theres an entry missing and wont install.
Grr..if you read through the other thread link above, you know how long i have been trying to get it to work. Frustrating!!

I myself use WalkingHotSpots http://www.walkinghotspot.com/. It is 24.99 for a lifetime license and currently they allow you to use the license over and over when you upgrade your phone. I used it first when I had the Touch Pro and now I am using it with my TP2. It is a program that allows me to add up to 5 connections and use my TP2 as a Hotspot. Now of course it would requre you to have your TP2 connected and charging via wall outlet. But basically it will allow me to connect 3G using my WiFi. I just used it Tuesday night while at church to connect back to my business server and resolve some databases issues. My laptop was running at an excellent speed and I was online over 2 hours with no drop connections. The walking hotspot website says that it will not work with Verizon but I can personally say that it does. I do not have the Internet connection software installed on my TP2 so I am going all WiFi for my connection. I added a password and name for my Walking HotSpot so no random joe could just drive by and conect lol and I was up and running in about 10 minutes. They don't offer a free tiral but you can try it for 1 month for 6.99 and if it doesn't work you will not have wasted 25.00. Just choose to use it for a Touch Pro and you should be able to get the download. I have had it over a year now and it has come in very handy especially when I go home to visit Mom as she has no internet and walking hot spots runs my husband's laptop and mine without any issues. So whatever you ultimately do I hope you get it worked out
WMWifiRouter
I use WMWifiRouter on my phone for internet sharing. It works great. This may be an alternative for you.
http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
(the site appears to be down at the moment)
I just loaded a program called PdaNet and was really amazed at how easy it was to install. Hooked up on Verizon @ 2.4mbps - actually faster than my DSL!!!
I've only tried it a couple times but I recommend going to here http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php and download a trial version.
WMWiFiRouter
I second the vote for WMWiFiRouter. I used it on my Mogul and now on my TP2 (both with Sprint) -- no issues whatsoever -- more importantly, no tethering fees.
For me now, when i use USB or Bluetooth over ICS, my browser has to go to 3g.vzwdun.com. It didn't use to do that before. How can I keep the device from reporting that I'm tethering...
Ok guys, here is the scoop:
I just purchased a new laptop with the following relevant specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Integrated Broadcomm Bluetooth Adapter
Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
I am using the standard (non-modified) T-Mobile HD2.
When I try to pair the two, there is an error on the laptop talking about how the "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" driver did not install properly, but others did. I can use some functions of the bluetooth pairing such as going through the file system to the device and transferring files from the phone to the computer. However, Windows Mobile Device Center does not recognize the phone as "connected" even though the option to allow the phone to connect via bluetooth is selected.
Also, I can not go through my phone to "push" a file from the phone to the computer. Actually, any bluetooth related action fails if initiated through the phone.
I have searched for hours on this issue and can not seem to find a resolution that works anywhere on the internet.
