Hi guys,
I'm in desperate need of an app that automatically turns on Airplane Mode when there is no signal for a while and then turns it on after a time and then automatically back off again for a while and keeps cycling until signal is found?
I checked out a few apps in the market but most of them are just scheduled to turn Airplane Mode on after a certain time and then either leave it on or turn it off and leave it off. I need it to do automatic cycling since I do a lot of subway travelling throughout my day and I am constantly in no signal zones.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
The problem here is no app has your paramaters to cycle through like you want. you can use apps like llama or locale though to change your mode automatically based on where you are. or you could try juice defender to turn your phones antenna's when you have your screen of if you dont use it much on the subway. other than that you may have to do this manually.
I checked out an app called NoBars Battery Saver and it does exactly what I need except the problem is it doesn't allow you to customize the signal search timeouts and Airplane Mode timeouts. Instead it has a short list of presets:
Signal search timeout
30 seconds
2 minutes
5 minutes
Airplane mode timeout
10 minutes
1 hour
Infinity
I'm fine with the shortest 30 seconds of signal searching before going to Airplane Mode but I'd like to set Airplane Mode timeout for 5 mins instead of 10 mins (which is a little too long for me as sometimes im in the subway for say 11 minutes and now I have to wait another 9 minutes for it to turn on again).
Does anyone know any other apps exactly like or similar to NoBars Battery Saver?
OOOk yeah ive seen that app, my mom actually uses it. but i dont think i ever found a similar one that let me customize. would be interested in this also in fact. any one?
I found another app called Auto Flight Mode but I'm reading mixed reviews about it and it is a paid app so I want to make sure it works before I get it. Anyone have experience with this app?

My application Auto On-Off Scheduler is free and does exactly the same things without all the complexity. Do check it out.

Hi all.
I would like to know if there is an app to switch on/off your windows phone automatically. I miss it when i changed from Blackberry to WP. For example i often forget to switch off my phone at night so this app would be very useful for me.
Thanks

I guess it is not a problem to write the aplication witch is able to turn of your phone. But how the hell could aplication turn ON the phone back, if it is tourtned off. For example try to turn on your PC with some kind of application. I guess you get the point.
Of course i get it, even if i'm not a developer. It would be great to have just an auto-switching off app. However, don't know how, blackberry has got it.
I would be really pleased if someone wrote this app to switch off the phone.
thanks again
I actually don't think blackberries turn off completely until the battery is either completely dead or removed. I know when a blackberry is "off" it still has the ability to turn back on when an alarm is going off so I would assume that it just goes into a low power standby state. However, when you turn off Windows Phone, it's off.
This should be posted @ [email protected] section.
I didn't do that because i must write 10 post before writing in that section
Actually, my PC will turn on at a given time, but I don't believe these phones can do the same. Also, if it does turn off at a certain time, you would not be able to have it plugged into a charger. When WP is plugged in, it automatically turns on. I believe that's a hardware design.
Reboot App Perhaps???
I DONT KNOW ABOUT A SHUT DOWN APP BUT HERE IS A REBOOT... PRE-MANGO
If you have pre-Mango (pre-7712+) you can use the attached .xap, its an app that was developed by someone here at the forums... I changed the icon for the start screen but that is all...
For shutdown, just hold the pwr button at this time... sorry... jejeje
I think what he's looking for (as I am) is a version of Phone Alarm or Pocket Phone Zen. They automatically turn things like WIFI, BT, Phone, etc. on or off at preset times. PA can also do that when plugged into a charger so BT will turn on when the phone's in the car holder for hands free. I haven't been able find anything in the Marketplace.
For restart phone on Mango try that app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333740
I use for shut off/on power button.
In Blackberry when you press the power button off it does not get really turned off. Its in sleep mode which actually just closes the user state but the kernel keeps ticking and thats the reason any app in background hooked to kernel can turn it on which is actually waking it up from sleep.
Moreover in sleep mode everything used to get shut off i.e call it airplane mode. So if somebody can make a WP app which can just turn on and turn off the airplane mode, it should work for you.
Have a look at Phone Alarm for WM 6.x It is able to do so much more. Things I would like to see in an app for WP7 are:
scheduled on/off of WIFI, BT, phone, GPS, data connection.
scheduled sync of email at longer intervals like every 6 hours (WP7 max is 2 -not everyone has a data flatrate.)
Scheduled and location based volume adjustment. (quiet at home, loud in the car, etc.)
BT, GPS auto-on if charging ("Car" profile if charging, see next point)
Profiles that can be changed with one click. (for example "Meeting" profile turns off sound, reduces display brightness, turns off WIFI, turns on BT etc.)
doesn't have to be cost free but does need to be bug free
Cheers
Hy to all
Does anybody of you have noticed that the device wakes up alone the display for a fraction of a second every 30 seconds. Have seen this thing happening in one evening, watching tv with light off. What is strange, is doing only when gsm is on, for example if I activate flight mode it stops.
Another strange phenomen is that, as far as I read the current widget the ma consumed in flight mode are bigger then in normal, with radio on. E.g. 16ma in normal with mobile data and WiFi off, only gsm on and around 60-80 ma in flight mode.
Can somebody explain how and why, and how I can trace that.
The phone is on default, so no S-off or route or anything, and also no branding, is bought on Vodafone but clean.

Hello, I'm afraid that I can't explain the screen flicker you're suffering from and I don't get it myself, but, I know that others have complained about it before, so there are existing threads that cover this, although I don't recall anyone linking it to only to when GSM is on, so you may have made some progress there !
Airplane mode....there is something very wrong on all our devices here as I find that Air plane mode consumes about five times the power that normal mode does. In fact on mine phone and wi-fi consumes five time less power than Airplane mode - which is just stupid.
I use Battery Monitor Widget over current widget as I find that CW clocks mA figures twice as high as BMW, you can use the maths function in CW to half the readings if you like the application. With phone and wi-fi idling my phone consumes about 6mA on CW = 12mA. In airplane mode the device consumes 35mA. Again there are plenty of other threads where this has been discussed but to my knowledge no one has yet solved it.
See here in this post regarding screen battery usage this is CW versus BMW is discussed
EDIT: the airplane issue doesn't appear to be RADIO related either as I've now used every radio there is including the latest one just leaked earlier today and the problem is still there - no change, so it's got to be ROM or kernel! Do people on non Sense ROMS, with non HTC stock kernels still suffer this problem?
I have the same issue with the screen flickering, it does not bother me that much but I noticed it. I looked around for a fix but came up with nothing.
If anyone knows how to fix this please post a reply.
Thanks.
I have said this in another similar post before....
Screen flicker can be caused by some Apps requiring the privilage to prevent the device from sleeping (basically a "Wake Lock"). If an App requiring that privilage has not be written properly, it causes the screen to flash on briefly, then back off again.
Whilst you may not find it annoying, it does actually increase wear on the backlight, as well as causes a spike in power consumption. Any momentary spike on the battery is a bad thing!
Take a look at what Apps you're running, find those which require the permission to prevent the device from sleeping, and begin either Force Closing them, or temporarily uninstalling them (one by one) until the Screen Flicker stops.
If you remove a certain App and the flickering stops, you know what the culpret is and you can report the bug to its devleoper(s)!
Come back with the same question
Hi all,
I came now back with the same question - screen flicker during sleep.
What do you find on your device?
I had been trying nearly all the roms available, and from what I had seen all do the same, from stock to the alfa tests with ICS.
I curios does nobody notice that, its only me?
No mater what applications are running or not (I kill them all - via running services not task manager) but the screen is still doing. I start to believe is normal for android, something the same like the consumption in airplane mode bigger then with the phone active (another thing completely abnormal).
Wryly is no solution for this.
PS. Just for my curiosity, regarding airplane mode, the tablets with no phone/3G capability, consume the same? I mean more then the one with 3G, when they sleep?
Respects!

The screen wake problem is well established now, and described by many users...and as far as i can see it only affects some devices (for example, ben_pyett is on Endymion - same as me, but hasn't reported a similar issue - and he's a pretty astute observer IMO). There was a thread where we had discussed it at length but i don't know where it's lost in all the cacophony on XDA.
EDIT : Found it!

Read my post above...
AFAIK, it doesn't affect battery life, as i have stellar battery performance. And i'm almost always on Endymion, which is where i see this screen flash thingy mostly.
Hey, I am taking a Android Tablet and installing it in the car.
Anyone know of a battery app or something else that I can set the device to auto power down (All Radios, Screen) when power is shut off to the charger.
Obviously when I turn the key and power is supplied to the tablet through the charger it will turn on, and with the screen set to never sleep I am set when I get in.
Just looking for a something that will auto shut down when I get out.
Thoughts?
I don't think there is a way for a normal app to do this.
If you are rooted there is a shell commands that can achieve this.
Have you looked in the market or on the net?
If you are rooted and you cant find any solution let me know, i might give writing such an app a try .
Thanks for the Reply Dark3n!
I spent hours yesterday research and downloading Battery and Power Control apps from the Market (free versions). I was able to find MANY apps that will somewhat do what I am looking for but only based on the Battery percentage, see "JuiceDefender".
Researching the paid versions of the app's got me nowhere, not enough documentation for me to risk the money and just download to see if the feature was there. If someones paid version of an App will let me do this please let me know and I will try it.
If you could write an app like this I would certainly donate to you or any group that you wish!!!!
Funny after I hit reply I looked at your signature, I downloaded your app yesterday too! Your type of app was what I was looking for, just need to add the feature.

, you probably mean the power manager.
Nah that app is fine as it is, but i could write a small app to do this, maybe polish it a little later and put it on the market for others.
In my head its already done
I don't have too much spare time at the moment, but i will keep you updated on any progress.
Could you open a console on your device and type as superuser:
"shutdown" or "shutdown now" or
"halt" or "halt now" or
"poweroff" or "poweroff now".
To see if any those commands are supported on your device?
Device HTC Flyer: Running LeeDroid 2.2.0 Kernel 2.3 - 2.6.35.14
"Shutdown now" = Shut the device off (had to boot it)
"Shutdown" = Shut the device off (had to boot it)
"halt" = Nothing
"halt now" = Nothing
"poweroff" = Nothing
"poweroff now" = Nothing
None put the device to sleep.
Do you want the device turned off?
Or in just any state using the least power possible?
In a state that uses the least amount of power possible.
We could put the phone into airplane mode and turn the screen off, and on charger connect we turn airplane mode off, and put the screen on always on?
That sounds great.
Got a prototype almost rdy.
And here it is
http://goo.gl/wWuC3
Let me know what you think.
Did you try it?
Hey Man sorry was out with girl yesterday. No cell phones allowed .
Just installed it and it works except for the screen. On power off wifi and Bluetooth shut down and airplane mode is enabled (gps stays on) but the screen never sleeps. Now I don't know if this is due to my low battery and the message popping up "please connect a charger". I am charging now and will report back.
On power up airplane mode shuts off and what ever I had enabled before comes back on.
Thanks man... I will let you know once I get her charged up.
Cool .
I don't think GPS stays on, i think its just showing that it is enabled.
Try using a GPS app with airplane mode on.
Regarding the screen staying, is it possible that another app is running in background or a system setting keeps the screen on?
I don't think i can force other apps to release their lock on the screen.
Well, the lack of communication here is a bit discouraging...
I put the app on the market for anyone else looking for the same solution.

Sorry Dark. Thanksgiving week, ton of family in town. I will have a few a hours today.
Even at full charge screen still stays on. I need to go through all the running apps and the one that is keeping it on.
setcpu or voltage control

Write "dumpsys power" in console/shell. It will tell you who or what is keeping a wakelock.
Hello,
I have an unrooted Huawei P8. Emui 3.1 - Software version B350. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
I noticed a strange behaviour when my phone goes into sleep and I can not find anything on the net about this problem.
There is some time I have installed an application "SMSReminder" which notifies me every 5 minutes when I received a SMS that I have not read yet. What I have noticed is when the phone is idle for some time, the application apparently has no more priority to do the reminders though when I unlock the screen, the notification occurs immediately because the App still running on. I thought that here was to be the app that was buggy and I gave up.
Unless I installed another application "Keycut" for managing a smartbutton inserted into the jack (which can manage functions like switching on torch without unlocking the phone, or turn off the wifi). And I have exactly the same behavior. While all the priorities are activated in the notifications and the app is allowed to operate when the phone is in standby, after a while, the smartbouton no longer works. As if the phone was in deep sleep and could not be unlocked only by a call, the button "Power ON" or receiving new SMS.
Concerning the battery management, I work in "smart" mode, but I tried the "High Performance" mode and it have the same behaviour.
There is a menu to select the apps you want to leave during the sleep of the phone. They remain well functioning but no longer react during the sleep.
I therefore appeal for your help to find out if there is a solution and if anyone has encountered this behavior.
thank you in advance
I also have the same issue, would love a fix
