Samsung i780 high power consumption

So i just got a Samsung i780 and after charging the first battery i put it in and started up the phone.
However i was stunned to find that the standby time was less than 7 hrs!!
Samsung says 400hrs standby, but now ive tried both the batteries that came with the phone and i did an xperiment, by charging the battery to a 100% before i went to bed and then leave the phone in standby.
When i woke up next morning the phone had shut off and couldnt be turned back until i either connected the ext power or replaced the battery.
This goes for both the batteries and the phone is like 2 days old, and no i didnt charge the batteries half way at any point, they were at less than 30% when i recharged them and charged to 100% before i started to use them. :-(
Also i made sure the WiFi wasnt on and i set every powersaving feature to save as much power as possible by lowering the display light to the lowest setting and have it shut off the display after the shortest period of time if the device is not in use etc etc etc...
My old HP Ipaq 6515 with WM 2003 never did anything like this and that one still has a standby time of approx 90hrs, but also the powersaving features in the old WM03 is more simple and apparently works better.
Also, when i start up the Samsung after replacing the battery, i cant change the ldc brightness, nothing happens when i choose another setting, the screen stays at the lowest setting of brightness, until i reset the phone, then it works properly.
My god i thought my old Ipaq was flawed and annoying with its way of suddenly turning itself off now and then due to the batt cover being crap, but this is almost worse!
So plz anyone who has any idea/suggestions, lemme know as this is really getting to me! :-D

Well it maybe will, but where will i get that?
I go to Samsung and under products i choose my phone model, then i go to "Support and downloads" and theres only a bunch of manuals in pdf and then activesync 4.5 available. :-(
Also i just noticed under the power adjustment theres an option that will shut off the display during a call 5 secs after the call has begun.
However bneneath it it says, that the phone wont shut the disp off unless the phone is in "inactive mode" whatever that means, i havent come accross anything anywhere with a possibility to enable "inactive mode"

Inactive mode i think is the one when you press the power button to shout down the display.
You can find a lot of infos about roms searching "i780" on this forum.

Thx mate, in that case thats not a problem, i mean the "inactive mode" i always use that, a habit from my old Ipaq which didnt run for too long with the display on. :lol:
I found a rom upgrade to version 6.1, however i could only find it in english, but thatll have to do for now, because whats the "correct" language worth if the device cant stay turned on for more than 4 hrs? ;-)
Geeez this is freaking me out now, i try to do the upg to 6.1 and the upgrader needs to verify the deviee, so it verifies it and alerts me about it and say "Press ok to reset the device", the phone restrts and meanwhilke the upgrader throws this in my face: "Time-out. Unable to access device. Try again".
So i tried again and the same thing happend. Pfffft.... Boohoo!! :lol:

Have you installed the drivers, activesync etc.? Is your battery fully charged?

What drivers? afaik the ain no drivers, but yes i have the Mobile Device center installed and that works perfectly.

[Q] New app to switch on/off automatically your phone

Hi all.
I would like to know if there is an app to switch on/off your windows phone automatically. I miss it when i changed from Blackberry to WP. For example i often forget to switch off my phone at night so this app would be very useful for me.

I guess it is not a problem to write the aplication witch is able to turn of your phone. But how the hell could aplication turn ON the phone back, if it is tourtned off. For example try to turn on your PC with some kind of application. I guess you get the point.

Of course i get it, even if i'm not a developer. It would be great to have just an auto-switching off app. However, don't know how, blackberry has got it.
I would be really pleased if someone wrote this app to switch off the phone.

I actually don't think blackberries turn off completely until the battery is either completely dead or removed. I know when a blackberry is "off" it still has the ability to turn back on when an alarm is going off so I would assume that it just goes into a low power standby state. However, when you turn off Windows Phone, it's off.

Actually, my PC will turn on at a given time, but I don't believe these phones can do the same. Also, if it does turn off at a certain time, you would not be able to have it plugged into a charger. When WP is plugged in, it automatically turns on. I believe that's a hardware design.

If you have pre-Mango (pre-7712+) you can use the attached .xap, its an app that was developed by someone here at the forums... I changed the icon for the start screen but that is all...
For shutdown, just hold the pwr button at this time... sorry... jejeje

I think what he's looking for (as I am) is a version of Phone Alarm or Pocket Phone Zen. They automatically turn things like WIFI, BT, Phone, etc. on or off at preset times. PA can also do that when plugged into a charger so BT will turn on when the phone's in the car holder for hands free. I haven't been able find anything in the Marketplace.

I use for shut off/on power button.

In Blackberry when you press the power button off it does not get really turned off. Its in sleep mode which actually just closes the user state but the kernel keeps ticking and thats the reason any app in background hooked to kernel can turn it on which is actually waking it up from sleep.
Moreover in sleep mode everything used to get shut off i.e call it airplane mode. So if somebody can make a WP app which can just turn on and turn off the airplane mode, it should work for you.

Have a look at Phone Alarm for WM 6.x It is able to do so much more. Things I would like to see in an app for WP7 are:
scheduled on/off of WIFI, BT, phone, GPS, data connection.
scheduled sync of email at longer intervals like every 6 hours (WP7 max is 2 -not everyone has a data flatrate.)
Scheduled and location based volume adjustment. (quiet at home, loud in the car, etc.)
BT, GPS auto-on if charging ("Car" profile if charging, see next point)
Profiles that can be changed with one click. (for example "Meeting" profile turns off sound, reduces display brightness, turns off WIFI, turns on BT etc.)
doesn't have to be cost free but does need to be bug free

Battery dies over night.

I use awesome off to turn my pad on and off so I don't have to use the power switch all the time. I always do this so I don't have to go through the whole boot up process when I want to use it. I noticed that when I wake up in the morning the pad is dead or almost dead. Is there a better way to put this to sleep at night? There is always so much stuff running that kills the battery. I read on here somewhere that someone was not even losing 1% by putting it in some deep sleep. Is there a mode for long time sleep that does not use battery or run any processes? But without shutting it down all the way.

Can't you just set the tablet to sleep in 5 or so minutes after being inactive?
You can have the tab cut wifi off in sleep also.
I don't do the wifi off in sleep tho...sometimes it doesn't reconnect after a wake up.
I don't know what awesome off is...I'll have to check that out.
My tab just goes into sleep after 10 minutes when I set it down.

The problem is awesome off. It won't let the pad sleep and is constantly checking for movement, light levels etc. Dump it and use the power button to turn it off and on.

I have Nook color power button donate that I got when I had my old rooted Nook color with flaky on off switch. It was in my google apps when I was loading apps on my infinity so I figured try it and see what happens lol It works remarkably well on my tab and does put it into deep sleep . See attached. I have not used my tablet much in last day but you can see that it does put it to sleep and turns wifi on and off and also reboots. Also BTW I then tried it on my rooted ICS leak Bionic and it gives reboot function instead of the long drawn out shut down then turn on process. It does not speed up any of these functions as far as rebooting.

Could be the "wifi location drain"-bug with google maps. From reading the forums it seems quite a few people have it without knowing it. You can of course disable wifi while sleeping, but this will not cure the main issue.
Turn the location settings on in google maps, then make sure that unneeded check boxes are disabled under location settings menu and you should be fine after that. The interesting part here is that google maps will drain the wifi even when the settings are not enabled, perhaps because you can't access the underlying menu without first enabling it. So only after you first enable this setting in maps will it work correctly.
Hopefully this helps, it did for me ..

I watched the awesome off YT video and it didn't look as though the tablet was being sent into full sleep.
I guess with it just grinding away essentially not shut down into a battery save mode it would die.
Doesn't the Tegra3 have a 5th core for minimum power processing or fast wake up?

I am wondering if the always-on will result in not being able to carry it on domestic flights, which require all devices to be OFF! After takeoff, airplane mode or WiFi are OK - but not on takeoff/
They could screen them out with the X-ray at the gates - large phones would gt checked and if S7 - maybe no-go.
If so - would hope custom ROMs could solve that.

Just turn the phone off then what are you talking about? Always on is just a term used for the screen displaying notifications on the black screen when the device is powered on... It can be powered on and off just like a normal phone lol

CNET review said it does not turn off (" I fell in love with the S7's new always-on display, which shows you either the clock, a calendar or an image.") , and that it will display a few items like time always - or so they said. They also contracted Samsung directly on it. .

If you are using the toggle in the drop-down, long press the "always on" icon and it will give you the options you're looking for.

Mine has not been shipped yet, so i will give that a try when it comes.
This would be odd however. I leave my S4 on for several days, and see a screen like that when it often pops up, so don't see the reason for having an "always on" since it can already be handled otherwise.

Yes while the phone is powered on the screen doesn't turn off completely.. Unless you disable "always on display" your just understanding it wrong which is OK lol

This is not a factual statement. The FAA only requires that the phone be taken out of transmit mode. Airplane mode is acceptable, even for takeoff and landing.

Look I own the phone it turns off and on like a normal phone... It's just that while it's on it has a feature called always in display where when you turn the screen off a clock and notifications will pop up because it has a amoled screen they have the ability to light pixels independently which means that you can have a clock only on part of the screen and the rest be off so then you aren't using very much energy at all. So you can glance at your phone see what time it is and other cool things. It does not mean the phone doesn't turn off. You're taking the feature completely out of Context

I believe the phone is actually always on, even when powered off. I was an airliner passenger last night, had it in Airplane Mode, and then felt it vibrate in my pocket. The phone had rebooted on its own, so I shut it off completely since I wasn't sure what was going on. Later, while it was *shut off*, I felt it get warm, pulled it out and the blue indicator light was flashing, but the phone was off and unresponsive. I held the power button down briefly to reboot it, and it rebooted in airplane mode, just as would be expected had it been shut off while in airplane mode. When it came back on, it had reset the date to February 10, the battery had decreased from 52% to 25% in the two hours since I had shut if off, and the time was displayed in negative seconds (!), something like 7 million. All the weirdness ended when I rebooted it after landing and inactivated airplane mode. I'm not sure what was going on but I am definitely sure that after I turned the phone off, the notification light continued to blink, the device became warm, and it experienced significant battery drain. I therefore believe it is actually never off.

You may have thought you turned it off but didn't. You have to hit the power button twice on screen to complete the action. The first time just highlights it. I'm willing to bet you hit it once assumed it was off and pocketed it. Trust me it turns off

Murphys law: craziness can and will happen. This thread is pointless and should be closed. All phones "turn off" completely. You don't have a 'sleeper cell' for a phone, laying dormant yet on while you believe it's off. You have to really be dense to believe otherwise.

Android seems frozen with black screen

Android 9 on a Samsung SM-T290 tablet.
Had used my tablet, turned off screen (click Power once), and put it down. Some unknown time later, picked up tablet, clicked Power once, screen did not come on. After clicking Power a few times, held Power down thinking somehow tablet had shut itself off completely. Instead of booting, I got the choices "Power off / Shutdown" and "Reboot". Shutting down and rebooting worked. No sign of problems.
Some time ago I noticed my Uptime seemed large -- I think 400 to 600 hours.
What would cause Android to get itself into a state in which it is still running enough to offer a Power Off menu, but in which it refuses to light up the screen?
In particular, is there any problem with running too long without shutting down and rebooting?

My guess is that in your Android the Doze mode is enabled.
FYI:
Starting with Android 6 Marshmallow, the Doze mode feature was introduced. This feature is designed to give a new breath of fresh air to battery consumption and in general battery life.

No match when I Search Settings for "doze".
Under Battery -> Settings there is an
Optimize settings​Save battery by optimizing your settings when you are not using your tablet.​It's a toggle, it is toggled OFF.
I think at the moment I turned off the sceeen, I was im a browser on an obnoxious web page. Maybe their clever Javascript tied something into a knot.
I'll try to notice when I pass 600 hours of Uptime.

If it has the doze feature, it would be a background process that you would see no controls or settings for. It is a feature in the kernel that runs at and below system level and you can't "see" it if you look for it.
Doze puts the device to sleep, it effectively freezes everything from the kernel level all the way up through system/user level and turns everything off without actually powering down and stays in that state until you "wake" it.
An example would be a Kindle Fire HD tablet that I had with doze, I forgot it was on and running a PSP emulator and I put it in a draw for many weeks, when I pulled it out of the draw and hit the power button, it woke right back up straight to the enulator and the game I had running and still had 60% battery.
