Power Control App

Hey, I am taking a Android Tablet and installing it in the car.
Anyone know of a battery app or something else that I can set the device to auto power down (All Radios, Screen) when power is shut off to the charger.
Obviously when I turn the key and power is supplied to the tablet through the charger it will turn on, and with the screen set to never sleep I am set when I get in.
Just looking for a something that will auto shut down when I get out.
Thoughts?

I don't think there is a way for a normal app to do this.
If you are rooted there is a shell commands that can achieve this.
Have you looked in the market or on the net?
If you are rooted and you cant find any solution let me know, i might give writing such an app a try .

I spent hours yesterday research and downloading Battery and Power Control apps from the Market (free versions). I was able to find MANY apps that will somewhat do what I am looking for but only based on the Battery percentage, see "JuiceDefender".
Researching the paid versions of the app's got me nowhere, not enough documentation for me to risk the money and just download to see if the feature was there. If someones paid version of an App will let me do this please let me know and I will try it.
If you could write an app like this I would certainly donate to you or any group that you wish!!!!

, you probably mean the power manager.
Nah that app is fine as it is, but i could write a small app to do this, maybe polish it a little later and put it on the market for others.

I don't have too much spare time at the moment, but i will keep you updated on any progress.

Could you open a console on your device and type as superuser:
"shutdown" or "shutdown now" or
"halt" or "halt now" or
"poweroff" or "poweroff now".
To see if any those commands are supported on your device?

Device HTC Flyer: Running LeeDroid 2.2.0 Kernel 2.3 - 2.6.35.14
"Shutdown now" = Shut the device off (had to boot it)
"Shutdown" = Shut the device off (had to boot it)
"halt" = Nothing
"halt now" = Nothing
"poweroff" = Nothing
"poweroff now" = Nothing
None put the device to sleep.

Do you want the device turned off?
Or in just any state using the least power possible?

In a state that uses the least amount of power possible.

We could put the phone into airplane mode and turn the screen off, and on charger connect we turn airplane mode off, and put the screen on always on?

Hey Man sorry was out with girl yesterday. No cell phones allowed .
Just installed it and it works except for the screen. On power off wifi and Bluetooth shut down and airplane mode is enabled (gps stays on) but the screen never sleeps. Now I don't know if this is due to my low battery and the message popping up "please connect a charger". I am charging now and will report back.
On power up airplane mode shuts off and what ever I had enabled before comes back on.

I don't think GPS stays on, i think its just showing that it is enabled.
Try using a GPS app with airplane mode on.
Regarding the screen staying, is it possible that another app is running in background or a system setting keeps the screen on?
I don't think i can force other apps to release their lock on the screen.

Sorry Dark. Thanksgiving week, ton of family in town. I will have a few a hours today.
Even at full charge screen still stays on. I need to go through all the running apps and the one that is keeping it on.

Write "dumpsys power" in console/shell. It will tell you who or what is keeping a wakelock.

Battery dies over night.

I use awesome off to turn my pad on and off so I don't have to use the power switch all the time. I always do this so I don't have to go through the whole boot up process when I want to use it. I noticed that when I wake up in the morning the pad is dead or almost dead. Is there a better way to put this to sleep at night? There is always so much stuff running that kills the battery. I read on here somewhere that someone was not even losing 1% by putting it in some deep sleep. Is there a mode for long time sleep that does not use battery or run any processes? But without shutting it down all the way.

Can't you just set the tablet to sleep in 5 or so minutes after being inactive?
You can have the tab cut wifi off in sleep also.
I don't do the wifi off in sleep tho...sometimes it doesn't reconnect after a wake up.
I don't know what awesome off is...I'll have to check that out.
My tab just goes into sleep after 10 minutes when I set it down.

The problem is awesome off. It won't let the pad sleep and is constantly checking for movement, light levels etc. Dump it and use the power button to turn it off and on.

I have Nook color power button donate that I got when I had my old rooted Nook color with flaky on off switch. It was in my google apps when I was loading apps on my infinity so I figured try it and see what happens lol It works remarkably well on my tab and does put it into deep sleep . See attached. I have not used my tablet much in last day but you can see that it does put it to sleep and turns wifi on and off and also reboots. Also BTW I then tried it on my rooted ICS leak Bionic and it gives reboot function instead of the long drawn out shut down then turn on process. It does not speed up any of these functions as far as rebooting.

Could be the "wifi location drain"-bug with google maps. From reading the forums it seems quite a few people have it without knowing it. You can of course disable wifi while sleeping, but this will not cure the main issue.
Turn the location settings on in google maps, then make sure that unneeded check boxes are disabled under location settings menu and you should be fine after that. The interesting part here is that google maps will drain the wifi even when the settings are not enabled, perhaps because you can't access the underlying menu without first enabling it. So only after you first enable this setting in maps will it work correctly.

I watched the awesome off YT video and it didn't look as though the tablet was being sent into full sleep.
I guess with it just grinding away essentially not shut down into a battery save mode it would die.
Doesn't the Tegra3 have a 5th core for minimum power processing or fast wake up?

when my battery is low the tablet dims. how do I remove this setting?

I would like to know this too. I realize it's a safeguard because a complete battery drain sucks for this type of battery, right? But a forced always dark kind of sucks compared to a warning forced dark that you could change back.. feels... Appley.

Hi you two, all you have to do is go into settings and then you should see 'Power Saving mode' Under storage and above battery. Simply turn on power saving mode momentarily and then you can untick the screen power saving mode and then turn off power saving mode if you wish to.
This is on the settings for JB, I dont know if this will be the same as the ICS settings, if not just have a look around in settings. It should be in there somewhere.

However, my screen stays gray and i can't see nothing more bright... my device is a samsung galaxy note 10.1 gt-n8010 with android 4.1.1 and kernel version 3.0.31-541027
Any help appreciated because this is very annoying.

Did anyone ever find a solution to this? The screen dimming is a pain in the ass. I'd rather burn the last few minutes of power at full brightness.

This is my only problem with this tablet. I would really appreciate if anyone came up with a solution to this

I guess there is no fix without rooting? Bummer. Some things about this tablet are just so blatantly annoying I can't figure what the designers were thinking.
Hopefully the kitkat update will provide options.

It is protecting the battery. You dont need to drain your battery empty on every cycle - and it is only making bad to the lithium battery to cycle is empty-full all the time. The problem with lithium battries have, is that if the battery drains too empty, it wont start to charge. It is dead. There are safety mechanics to prevent this to happen, auto power off/shutdown features though... But when the battery is 5%, it turns the display dim to get you more time to plug it in. So, if you want to keep your battery good, dont cycle is every time from full to empty state. And dont let it to auto shut off, it may go too empty and the battery wont start to charge anymore.
It is a built in feature and Kitkat wont change this.

i heard that the note 20 ultra may not be sleeping cores when screen is off and idle
also i have seen apps that can shut the screen off while forcing sleep at the same time
do not know what to type to find it as i want to test it on my note 20 ultra. anyone know of such apps list them below...

I use greenify. You don't have to be rooted to use it and there is a setting that puts apps you select to sleep and turn screen off (that might be a root feature tho, I'm not sure, I don't use it, I just have it set to force stop battery draining apps).

3rd party power management apps tend to screw things up by creating conflicts. You may find it better to let Android do it without using any other apps except to shutdown apps that are known offenders.
On my load it's Bixby (except Bixby Vision and Bixby Vision Framework) all cloud apps, Samsung Push, Gmail, Google backup Transport and Backup Transport Framework.
All I'm using is PD MDM and Settings changes on my 10+ running on Pie. You will need to -play- with it to optimize it. Most guides and power management apps just drop the ball.
Monitor it. The usage you see is AOD running. After I turned off the screen Android powered all the running Apps down. No trivmcks; in Stand By Apps you can see all are in the Active state, all the time, always but they power down when not in use. So much for buckets... using Samsung Device Manager adaptive power management will toggle those buckets to various states and cause more battery drain eventually.
Use Galaxy Labs>Battery Tracker
It's possible the newer versions of Samsung Device Manager run fine but test by monitoring and always be wary of all 3red party power management apps!

Have you looked into Bixby Routines or an app like Tasker where you can create rules? I can't say this will work (I don't use these apps), but if you haven't looked into using rule setting apps, that may be a solution for you.

still someone mentioned the note 20 ultra may not be sleeping the phones cores that is why battery life is so out of whack. i just wanted an app that when i tape it it will turn off the phone and sleep the cores instantly. someone mentioned it is better then waiting for the time it takes to let the phone do it. this will help me find out if the cores sleep or not buy using the app to see if it will give me better battery life. really no harm will be done. the phone sleeps cores anyway. but if a bug is keeping them awake i want to catch it and report it. so it be nice if i can find an app to shut off screen and sleep the cores as well and it will save my power button from wear

All I would like is an icon on my home screen that I could tap to turn the screen off. I feel I’m wearing out the power button the amount of times I use it to turn screen off. Not found any other way to do it

Mine does but no idea how yours is configured.
The app simple turns off the screen same as hitting the power button.
Apps like Greenify tend to make a mess out of unrooted phones.

To what end? I have about 60 apks blocked, no sync running for Gmail, Calendar, etc, no cloud apps, no trash message apps, no FB, Playstore is blocked unless I unblock it and no 3rd party power management*.
My OS "sleeps" within a minute or so of turning the screen off.
Still a lot of stuff running though plus I'm using AOD.
It uses a little under 1% of battery per hour and better with no AOD.
Reboots generally don't fix power issues at all.
*all 3rd party power management apps including Samsung's Device Manager (disabled) cause more problems than they solve and many times cause excessive power consumption as well. All my app buckets show as active in Developer Options.

i bet, but some have said it is not sleeping cores that may be the same as os sleeping. and why wait a min when you can have an app do it when you tap it. i just want to test if forcing the os/phone into sleep will make a difference and they got apps that can turn off screen and force sleep i just can not find them. i found one in 2015 and lost it forever

I did install One Hand Operation +, but for the life of me, I can’t see how to configure it to turn screen off with 2x tap on home button

I use Nap Time by Francisco Franco the kernel developer for rooted devices from a couple years ago. It will put the phone into a deep doze, which android already has. You will need to do a couple adb commands to get it working on non rooted phones, it's one of the first apps I install on a new phone. The phone can sit 10 hours over night and drop between 3-5%, you can have it turn bluetooth, wifi and data off while in a doze. Here's what Franco says about his app.
This is the real battery saver. No placebo and dumb marketing shenanigans!
Naptime lowers your device's power consumption while the display is off by empowering Android's built-in doze power saving functionality. Faster idle means less power being consumed unecessarily. By default doze can take a while to kick in so Naptime just speeds-up that process automagically for you.
It can also automatically disable W-iFi, mobile data, location & bluetooth as soon as doze kicks in.
Experimental features such as automatic Android Battery Saver, Aggressive Doze timings, Aggressive Doze scheduling times and location detection.
Now you have profiles so you can load them up on demand based on your usage and accessible from Quick Tiles.
Most features work if you're not rooted, but to have the full experience you'll have to root your device.

You can't double tap with that one; set one or more of the slides to turn off the screen. I use that as to kill the screen, navigate and more.
Double Tap is the one that does just that.

It turns off the screen. There's always system apks running in the background unless you power off the phone. You can limit what runs to some extent.
If your getting around 1% per hour battery drain when the screen is off I call it done.

Prevent medium power saving mode from disabling background location access?

Ive got a SM-N770F/DS and I always have medium power saving mode on. I have also always had an issue with Google Maps not wanting to detect location after I turn the screen off. I assumed it was a google issue until I turned optimized power saving mode on today and Maps suddenly started reading my location and giving directions while the screen was off. Is it possible to disable the "prevent background location access" part of medium power saving mode? Long pressing my power saving settings doesnt give any options to do this, im thinking my only option is to root. Would rooting fix this? If so, does anyone know of some roms on here that would allow me to do this? I dont care about much else from the rom, I like the phone as is and this is the only issue I have with it

Do not toggled on any power management other than the power mode (optimized) and fast charging.
They screw up functionality and increase battery usage on my unrooted 10+ running on Pie.
In Developer options>standby apps all buckets should show as active otherwise power management is active. Android will manage apps well without any power management options turned on. Track down any remaining battery hogs on a per case basis and deal directly with them. Sometimes closing the window gets it done like with Brave. Others need to be dealt with by package disabler and/or Karma Firewall.
This may or may not help you.
Gmaps is crapware. Runs best on original factory load and is a parasitic drain wanting to constantly run in the backup from boot sucking up battery and bandwidth.
Unlike you my goal is to keep it from doing this
Also review Gmaps notification and other settings. It's a mess; buried settings galore.

I feel like I have experienced the opposite. I felt like my battery was draining faster with optimized on today (2nd pic) compared to the past few days with medium power saving on (first pic). Obviously more testing needs to be done to see. Going off of the pics I lost about 50% each day, so optimized seems to be worse for battery life but the reduced screen on time makes up for it in this scenario
