Phone "hangs" after hanging up?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but i checked some performance related threads and nobody mentioned it.
After hanging up a call, why does the entire device hang for about 10-13 seconds before I can use any other function (including making another call) ??
Anything that can be done to fix this?

It seems to be an issue with some radios on some phones. I have a list of radios that I use that will crash the phone after so many calls.

No, no radio changing. In fact I don't even know what that means.
The phone doesn't crash, it just hangs after a phone call for about 13 seconds like it's trying to process something. Doesn't anyone else experience this?

have you downloaded a bunch of app to run in the background of your phone?
it does sound redundant, but if you take a look at your task manager it'll show you how much of your ram is being used up. if it's somewhere high like 75% then you need to close whatever program is taking up the most memory.
another possible thing might be active sync. I heard that when active sync tries to sync while not connected it can cause slow downs and that might happen during or when you hang up a call.

Just tested it. Active directory was not on, and neither was there any background processes working according to Task Manager, and it still took 10 secs after I hung up the call before I could reuse the phone.
How long is it supposed to take for the rest of you?

a second or less. Active sync is the usual culprit for bad battery life, but it looks like something is running in teh background and making your phone calls take longer to quit.

download and install advanced config, and look in one of the settings which is called "hangup delay" or something like that default is 1500 mS (1.5 seconds) change it to 500 mS or what ever you want and see if that makes a difference

I've done that now, and all I've done is improve the "hang time" by the number I've reduced the "hangup delay" by. The hang-up delay was originally 3000, and I reduced it to 1000, so my "hang time" is reduced by 2 seconds, but I still have to wait around 9-10 seconds before the phone is usable again.
How come no-one else is experiencing this? There's nothing special running on my phone.

I have the Telus device and have the ' hang' problem as well. I have seen updates on the HTC website for different carrier versions that may correct this problem. None for Telus yet though.

do you have any sort of battery meter running at the top of your screen? ie tnt battery meter?
that app KILLS KILLS KILLS performance on the TP for some reason...

Yes I have a battery meter at the top of the screen, but it's the stock one. I don't know what a "TNT" battery meter is. Should I disable it, and if so how? And after I do, how would I know how much power I have left? And are you saying that those of you who did not turn of the battery meter had performance problems when hanging up?

Thank-you! I am also with Telus! If anyone has any suggestions - please help! This is the number one problem with the phone, as well as dropped calls on occasion. I like all the non-phone (ie. PDA) functions though (except that all my outdoor photos turn blue)

Found this which seems to help:
Dealt with HTC for the same issue you're talking about. Turn the "Auto save contact" off and make sure you wipe you call history and the issue will go away.

im talking about a meter that runs across the very top of your screen so that if it's halfway across your screen you ahve 50% battery left. if you don't have any idea what i'm takling about then ignore this lol

Request: Blinking Led when power on (but stand-by)??

Is there an apk for get blinking led when power on?
Anyway 1st of all: where do you know that your phone is still alive if it is stand-by???
Second: My wife just bought DHD and her 1st question is how do I know that this phone is still alive and kicking if it is stand-by mode?
And.... I think... blinking led f.e every 60 secs doesn't consume battery a lot??

Not exactly sure if this is what you have in mind, but my battery monitoring app, BattMonX, will keep the LED on (provided the phone's hardware supports it, of course ) while monitoring the battery charging state.
Its highly configurable and might fulfill your needs.

Thx... I tried it... but I'd like more a solution where I could choose that led blinks f.e once in a 30 secs or 60 secs when phone is stand-by and still alive... I cannot get this apk working like that...
And this might confuse me also (when led is always on) because sometimes if android crashes or freezes it could cause similar situation (that led stays on)...

Yeah, it there does seem to be a little "wonkiness" (if you will) to the consistency of how the LEDs are supported throughout the Android world. Much of this inconsistency is due to hardware implementions, I'm sure (for example, the HTC phones are much different than the Motorola phones in the API's behavior and affect on the LEDs (not to mention what colors are supported)).
There's also the issue of what is actually happening in "stand-by" (I assume you mean when the phone's screen is off and presumably asleep). I've found that without using wake-locks, the user apps (services included (even ones monitoring for system intents)) are indeed quiesced within a few minutes of turning the screen off. This was why I added my "rainbow mode" feature in my app...it was purely to see how Android was affecting how responsive my app was after the screen is turned off. You can actually see Android slowing things down as time goes on after the screen is turned off. So, I think the only way you could get what you want would be to have an app that implements a wake-lock and keeps the CPU alive while the screen is off...a scenario that I don't think most folks would really like due to the potential impact on battery life (i.e., if the CPU is awake for your app, its awake for all apps (I believe)).

Auto/background sync stops after battery dies

I've noticed that once phone is powered off/on after shutting down with battery dead that neither automatic sync nor background sync happens despite being ticked. I have to cycle the setting to kick it into life. Anyone else seen that?

Are you sure that this simply isn't they power save feature kicking in?
This can be configured using various settings from within
Settings > Power > Power save

Power save works fine when the battery gets below 15% (in my case). The problem is it doesn't seem to come out of power save mode properly on its own when the phone has power in it again. I find the background and auto sync settings have been reticked, but they don't seem to be effective until I un-tick/re-tick them manually.

Oh, must admit that I have not noticed this, although I do use tasker application to enable and then disable my various radios and sync settings based on time in order to save battery

Nope. There's a LOT about the Desire S that kinda half works properly. I find its implementation really kind of sloppy. Definitely NOT a phone I go round recommending to anyone.
To ben_pyett's comment I considered Tasker. Apart from the fact that there are lots of comments that some of it's functionality is broken in 2.3 because Google messed with their APIs, when I thought about it I was pricipally going to get it to try and fix/work around all the stuff that doesn't work well in the Desire S, rather than add functionaliy. E.g.
- Auto display brightness always has the brightness too high (esp in dim ambient light) and there's no way to adjust its 'gain'
- Cycling Buetooth and WiFi and GPS availability (using various strategies based on location and time) only to mitigate poor battery life in the standard product
- Getting it to out of power save mode properly
- Stopping it making the SMS received notification noise when it was just receiving a txt delivery receipt
Sadly there's other stuff Tasker can't 'fix'.
I find myself rebooting the phone manually every two or three days when it begins to exhibit weird behaviour. It might be crashing and rebooting between those times too. I used to have a SIM PIN activated, but it would prompt for that before allowing me to even get calls after a crash, so I missed important calls before I noticed it was in that state. Now with the SIM PIN disabled it might still be crashing but I don't spot it at least.
I was a Blackberry user for years, and should never have changed. At least the BB was stable and all its features seemed to work properly (and had excellent battery life even with WiFi and Bluetooth on 24/7). I though the extra Google integration with Android was attractive and would be worth it. How wrong I was. :-(

What the F is keeping my phone awake?

Can someone please help me figure out what's keeping my phone awake. As you can see my screen is only on very little but my phone is turning on quite a bit. This happens a lot unless I'm connected to wifibfor an extended amount of time.

Probably Google Now and hotword detection. Also do you have WiFi "Scanning always available" on?

I have a related problem and didnt want to open another post. Not sure, maybe its better to do that? Dont want to steal topic.
Also, im sorry but i cannot provide battery tesing app results since im not allowed to root it...and as far as i know root is need to detect wakelocks on kitkat.
But i can provide an error report. Maybe that helps the pros. This happens on a fresh Nexus 5, without any apps besides the preinstalled gApps.
But not constantly, it didnt happen the last 2 days before. Every time it happens it is after a longer period of use. For example if i dont use it a lot and manage to come 2 days with the battery cycle and then charge the mobile, it happens after charging. But it never happened yet when i use device a lot and charge it more frequently. But that can be a coincidence too, dont let you irritate by that now. 4.4.4 Android. But sure is that both times, the only 2 times, it happened right after pull out the charger.

Depends on what you want to use when screen is off. It just means that wifi is alwayys on. If not, if your phone goes into standby mode the 3G connection takes over. If you have no special data rate you can let wifi on. Your active time is pretty normal for a phone. If auto-sync is on and google now and all that, maybe facebook or whatsapp or even more. Newsapps that push all that does this.
What i would more worry about is your signal. Its very low and probably uses alot of battery. If i recheck your pic i would probably really better let Wifi on if your at home at least, so your 3G connection doesnt always have to work so much. Of course all this is only if you want to have internet...if you know you wont use it anyway, turn it off.
Until its not like me screen above i would not worry too much.

I have google now turned off it was doing way to many wakelocks. I do have hotword on but if I'm correct it only listens when the screen is on. I'm having an issue when the screen is off the phone still keep a waking up.

by the looks of it, its your apps and setup most likely. but its fairly normal, not that many wakeups/wakelocks as many others have. wakelocks are how our phones work, generally they are normal and expected. system apps/processes and user apps create them. only when the process thats associated with the wakeocks get stuck or run amuck, is when they are bad. and yours arent stuck, nor amuck.

Low signal data, Google Now location based cards and Battery Saver or High accuracy mode. This combination gives me the same awake lines as seen here.
Technically having the WiFi on (or "always scanning") should help so it's not solely reliant on the weak data signal, but it doesn't seem to.

being awake 20% of the time is not much. if you have apps that get notifications, check locations, or are just designed to occasionally check stuff, those are the one thatll cause most the wakelocks.

Guess it's just the WiFi locations in general. When on WiFi it'll rarely wake the phone only data. Google Search then shows more wake time so I figured it'd be Gnow.

See a comparison I did here, both with Battery Saver mode on. When using data the phone wakes constantly in its attempt to resolve location based information. In theory, having the WiFi chip enabled should help but it doesn't seem to do much.

why does my alarm clock work while the phone is turned out? What is the name of this function and how can I turn it off?
I think it uses battery, because I charged my old phone (switched off, emergency phone) a week ago and now its empty.

I remember this was an issue for certain phones (but that was 6 years ago lol). Your phone must be really old !
And about the battery life when shut down, how long does it last usually?
Now for the upfront solutions:
Delete the alarm you sat up.
And if you have a removable battery on this phone, removing it would have a very good effect on battery life.

Its an Elephone P7000. I want to charge it and use it as a secondary phone. I turn it only on when my main phone has no battery. Last month I bought a new battery for this phone, on the battery is written "production date 2015". The battery last a whole day when the phone is turned on.
I'm really interested what is running the whole time in the background when Android is turned off. Is it some kind of BIOS? Is it the bootloader? Can you give me the name of this "program"?
PS: When my Xiaomi phone if turned of, the alarm does not work.

And secondly I'm really interested what is running in the background while the phone is turned off. Is is a firmeware from Elephone? I removed the original Elephone rom and switched to Cyagenomod and then to Rublix. But original Bootloader and other Elephone stuff my still be there.
I asked in a german Android forum and they said it is the fastboot function. But I think this is only a possibility of Android to boot fast when is is wakened from the watchdog I'm searching. (That the alarm clock starts immediately and not minutes after the targeted wakeup time.)

Yes, when you flash a custom ROM, all you are really changing is the system partition itself and maybe the kernel, everything else from your original firmware is still there: e.g. bootloader, modem, etc, etc..
Fastboot has nothing to do with how quickly the device boots, fastboot is a bootable function/mode used to flash/manage the device using the adb/fastboot software while booted into fastboot mode. Some devices have a feature that allows for fast booting, but that is a different animal than fastboot.
Your device has an internal clock the same as a PC does, that is how a PC keeps correct time even when the system is powered off and still shows the correct time when you boot the system. As for what is causing the battery to die even turned off, that may be a different issue than the power used by the internal clock.
All of my old devices lose charge after sitting in a draw for some time without being used, it isn't really an "issue" or problem, it is just the nature of the beast. Batteries do not store power indefinitely.

Are you rooted? running Magisk?

The smartphone is rooted with SuperSU.
This watchdog is more than a Bios clock. It wakes the smartphone at a given time. So the android system configures this background watchdog somehow. Maybe there are more things that it can do?
My Motorola Moto E (LineageOS) starts always with a wrong time. (WhatsApp is complaining about it at the start) So there seems to be no watchdog.

OK, if you are rooted, I would try running a boot-script that logs what is running on your phone every X minutes. If your lucky, the boot-script will log while the phone is "OFF".
something like the following maybe:

You may need to find a path that is actually mounted in your "OFF" state.
Also, I wouldn't keep this as a permanent thing, simply a test.

I have done some search. It seems that the P7000 has a Real Time Clock (RTC) in the MT6752 SOC. This chip can be configured to wakeup Android. I can see it at "cat /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/name".
There is also the charging screen despite the phone is turned off. The SOC can do a lot of things when android is not running.

It does sound like android is not running on your phone for the phone-off-alarms, since it has a real time clock (I didnt read it, sorry).
As for the charging animation, all my phones have that too, but I think that is only the bootloader and ONLY while charging. ie connected to power, so discharging isn't an issue.
I suggested the above, as waaaay back when I modified my first phone, when I added a bunch of boot scripts that logged heavily, I *think* i was surprised when I noticed once (its back in gingerbread days) that I had logs from the start up of when I turned it off. But that was now many moons ago. It was just an idea, that shouldn't be too hard to test, even though all you have said points to it failing. And now that I think of it, the charging animation on that first phone I had, was actually PNG images (as animation frames) sitting on the android file system path; but again, that was during charging, not completely off.
