I've been using Activesync 4.1 (on WinXP Pro) with WM5 (1.60c) with no problems for the past month on my imate (Himalaya). I was able to sync via USB, BT, and IR. Suddenly, syncing through USB (Cradle) no longer works! I can sync fine via BT and IR, but when I try to sync via USB, here is what happens:
* Placed imate on cradle
* PC network detects this and provides IP address for USB. At this time, I can ping the imate. Activesync (AS) detects the imate and and the AS icon in the PC's toolbar turns green and starts to rotate
* AS says "connecting"
* imate neither says or shows anything (i.e. NO moving or rotating arrows on top bar near signal strength icon, as would be expected during sync).
* Activesync on imate also shows that it is NOT connected and shows info about last sync date and time
* when I press the "Sync" button on AS in imate, it shows "connecting" for a split second, then goes away, but that does not help.
* Every now and then, a popup window says "Unable to Obtain a servier assigned IP address....", even though I made sure that the Remot-NDIS Host network adapter uses "Server assigned IP" addresses (and it shows 169.254.2.1) and pings fine. Actually, this message popped up all the time when syncing through USB when it was working with no problems.
*It stays in this state indefinitely, or until I remove imate from cradle
Here is what I did to troubleshoot (Believe me, AS 4.1 has been a headache that caused me many long hours, days and weeks to solve. I had that dreaded 85010014 error that took weeks to resolve, so I was prepared to do all kinds of things to troublshoot this, but to no avail. I searched many forums, including this one, and googled to no end before writing this post):
* Although it was working with my e-trust firewall before (had it set up to OK all activesync programs), I turned it off just in case.
* Although it was working with my e-trust Antivirus before, I turned off realtime montoring just in case.
* On the imate, I made sure that the Remot-NDIS Host network adapter uses "Server assigned IP" addresses (and it shows 169.254.2.1)
* I pinged imate, and it responds fine
* I checked on my PC under "Network Connections" and it shows a Local Area Network for the Windows Mobile-based device
* I checked my PC hardware and found Windows Mobile-based device and is working properly
* I made sure that both AS on the PC and imate have the USB syncing option checked
* I exited XCPUscaler and unchecked PPC Profiles Pro from Today screen
* Doubting that this had to do with application of Darren Humphries' Activesync tweek, I reverted it back to default (see below).
* I unistalled the "Windows Mobile-based device" under Network Adapters, restarted PC, then re-attached imate.
* I unistalled the "Windows Mobile-based device" under Network Adapters, restarted PC, uninstalled Activesync 4.1 on PC, restarted PC, removed AS folder in program files, looked for rapi.dll (did not find it), deleted activesync related entries in registry, restarted PC, removed partnership from imate, soft-reset imate, reinstalled AS4.1, then attached imate to cradle.
* Basically, I did everything that was suggested so far, short of reinstalling WinXP on my PC or hard resetting the imate
Believing that AS should not suddenly stop working on its own (not sure if this is a valid belief!), I retraced my steps to see what changed since the last USB sync. Here are the changes (note: there were no WinXP updates made during that period):
On imate:
* Installed XCPUscaler
* installed PPC Profiles Pro (Brett Darnell's)
* Installed Toe's ScreenRotate Fix
* Installed MS Voice Command
* Applied Darren Humphries' performance tweek as follows: "In order to stop Activesync from periodically starting on it's own. To do so open Activesync on your WM5 device and tap on Menu>Add Server Source. Add any info to create a fake server sync. After that is complete go to Menu>Schedule and change the two dropdowns to "Manual" and tap "ok" at the top right. You can now go to Menu>Options and delete the Exchange Server setting you just added. Now Activesync will not start when you cradle your device."
Could it be a hardware issue, i.e. USB connection on the imate connector not working (if so, then why would I be able to ping the imate with no problems through USB?). Please let me know if I am missing something.
Thanks!
KJ
Just to help isolate the problem, I installed AS 4.1 to another WinXP machine and attached the USB cradle connector to it. Same problem. Hence, it does not seem to be a PC issue.
So far, it seems to be isolated to either the imate or the cradle (and cable). Note that the PC recognizes the USB connection and does the networking thing just fine, hence the cradle should be OK (is there a way to check the USB connection on the cradle to make sure it is OK?). Pinging also works both ways and I see the 169.254.2.1 address on teh imate. So, the problem does not seem to be the connection. Rather, it seems to be with Activesync on the imate realizing that the imate is cradeled.
Recall that one of the changes to the imate I made right before this problem was the AS hack of a fake Exchange server so that the schedule is changed to "Manually", as described in my first post. I reverted back to original "every 5 minutes" but the problem persists. Are there registry keys that I can compare to make sure registry is correct? Note that I can sync fine with BT and IR and both of these have entries in AS Menu that say "connect via IR..", etc. in order to connect manually, but no "connect via USB" manual option.
KJ
I had a problem very similar to this.. it only appeared with 'guest' and no partnership..
Turned out my calendar/contacts file was corrupt.

Activesync 4.1 USB Issue (more info but still _not_ solved.)
Thanks for the suggestions and comments. I refrained from responding before I performed a thorough (re)investigation. I have the following updates: I just received a boxwave minisync retractable USB cable for my imate/XDAII/Himalaya to test out the theory whether the cause of the problem was a cradle problem (i.e. applied process of elimination on hardware). Unfortunately, the problem still persists. I can now safely eliminate the possibility that it was the cradle from my previous investigations. Therefore, I decided (having done all the investigation above) that it must be either of the following culprits:
A. Himalaya hardware
B. Himalaya software
I tackled the hardware issue (A) first: I checked the functioning of the USB hardware: My logic dictates that if I can connect the Himalaya to a PC using USB and conduct functions through that connection, then the USB hardware should be OK (except for perhaps any hardware switches or pin grounding the flat connector on the other end of the USB cable makes that activate the Himalaya onboard activesync program, as discussed below). So, I performed the following tests (some are repeats of what I already tried and wrote, just for good measure):
1. Connected Himalaya to my laptop (call that “PC1”, since recall that I tested on two separate PCs) via USB cable. It detects it fine and goes through the hardware detection and driver install process, creates a network adapter and connection and provides an IP address for the USB connection (169.254.0.1 for Himalaya and 169.254.0.2 for PC1). At this time, I can ping the Himalaya. ActiveSync (AS) on PC1 detects the Himalaya and the AS icon on the PC's toolbar turns green and starts to rotate, as before, but no reaction from Himalaya.
2. Every now and then, a popup window says "Unable to Obtain a servier assigned IP address....", even though I made sure that the Remot-NDIS Host network adapter uses "Server assigned IP" addresses (and it shows 169.254.2.1) and pings fine. Actually, this message popped up all the time when syncing through USB back when it was working with no problems, so not sure if this is an issue (it wasn’t before).
3. On the Himalaya, I made sure that the Remot-NDIS Host network adapter uses "Server assigned IP" addresses (and it shows 169.254.2.1). I pinged the Himalaya from PC1 and PC1 from Himalaya, and the responses are fine both ways. This tells me that USB connection hardware must be working, otherwise, I would not have been able to pass ping packets back and forth.
4. I went one step further (just to be sure) and downloaded and installed Softik’s Card Export II v2.10 (yes, this version supports WM5, a nice piece of software). In “Card Export mode”, I connected Himalaya to PC1,which detected it as a USB Mass Storage Device, as it should. It installed the drivers and it worked just fine! I wanted to make sure that I am getting USB speeds, so I benchmarked the connection and got over 3Mb/s transfers from PC to SD card, steady. This tells me that at least USB, as a connection, is OK.
5. So, only thing left is to eliminate any possibility of a hardware issue, I looked into the Himalays flat connector pinout diagram. To simplify, the following are the pins relating to USB (excluding any grounds):
13 USB_VDD
14 (or 15) UDC+
15 (0r 14) UDC-
For those who are not familiar with the Himalaya flat connector, “UDC+” and “UDC-“ are USB data pins. “USB_VDD” is the USB power pin. USB_VDD when powered wakes up Himalaya and activates onboard activesync. I thought perhaps if this pin were defective, Activesync on the Himalaya would not activate. I assume that this pin is where the Himilaya gets its battery charge current when connected via USB, as pins 20-22 are “V_ADP”, which are used for charging only when connecting to a wall or car charger (please let me know if this is an invalid assumption). Hence, I wanted to check to see if the battery indeed charges through USB. I saw that when Himalaya was connected via USB, the battery charged just fine (light goes solid amber, battery monitor says “Charging”) and it charges the battery fully as expected.
With the foregoing, I can conclude that the problem is very unlikely hardware related (as in A, above). Since I already eliminated a PC problem (I checked on another PC with different hardware/software, as described in my first post), the only thing left to investigate is a software problem on the Himalaya itself. This is where I look for the developers in the forum to provide expertise: My analysis tells that when the Himalaya is connected via USB and the PC Activesync shows “Connecting”, while the Himalaya shows nothing, that the Himalaya is behaving as if it were not connected to USB, or is ignoring the USB connection, i.e. in Himalaya Activesync, under “Menu””Connections …”, as if the box next to “Sychronize all PCs using this connection:” is not ticked or the drop down list is not set to “USB”. I checked and unchecked this box and chose other connections (such as various serial speeds), just to see if this would change some persistent setting and set it back, with soft resets in between, but to no avail. Is there a registry setting that I can check to see if this setting is doing the correct thing? If so, where is it? It is here where my investigation trail runs thin and is where I am looking for insight in the matter. Appreciate your input….
Active Sync 4.1 on WM5
I had the same problem after upgrading to WM5 on BA (Xda iis)
But I finally found the resolution for this problem
If you can not sync with your USB try this:
go to the properties of the My Network Places
Plug in you device and you will see a new network connection
On the properties page on the new connection you will see that the internet protocol (TCP/IP) is not checked
Select the TCP/IP checkbox an then apply changes
The USB will start connecting to the device.
@kj
i have the same problem as yours sinds yesterday.
i think i happend just right after i've cleart the duplicate enteries from the events database. (check notification/scarybear)
do you use some sort of databse cleaner software?
for the record i've tryed with htc wizard (wm5) and htc himalaya with wm2003. when i sync with the himalaya then is everyhing fine. the wizard have the same problem as yours.
Re: Activesync 4.1 USB Issue
Thx all for the replies.
@ISR: Verified that TCP/IP was already checked. Note that if that was not checked, I would not have been able to ping the device. I really doubt this is a PC issue, although I realize that most people had problems with their PCs and Activesync (I checked this with 2 separate PCs with completely different configs, one with no virus checker or firewall). The problem is most likely the software on the Himalaya. When you say yours had the same problem as mine, do you mean that you were able to ping pckets through USB both ways, sync through BT, but when syncing through USB, only Activesync on the PC shows "Connecting" with nothing going on on teh Himalaya (most people have the opposite problem due to firewall and other TCP/IP issues)?
@Badboy18: No, I don't use a database cleaning software, unless one of the softwares installed on the imate already does so in the background. Same question to you as with ISR: When you say yours had the same problem as mine, do you mean that you were able to ping packets through USB both ways, sync through BT, but when syncing through USB, only Activesync on the PC shows "Connecting" with nothing going on on the Himalaya (most people have the opposite problem due to firewall and other TCP/IP issues)?
hi all,
just to add to the defferentes experience well, I've got as well a xdalli and i did use it with activesync 3.8;so when i bought the exec I installed the as 4.0,after that I did remove all the activesync with ther regestry key and defferent folders on the pc;fraiche install again ,well all the step donne by kj
and now I got thise message came as <to synchronise this device, you must install activesync 4.0 or higher on your desktop computer> ?????
and on the pc i've got AS 4.1.0(build 4841)!!
some times when I restart the pc and do a soft reset on the exec ;it does connect as guest????..sometimes :x :x
and the xdalli still can do a parternership with the pc even it's AS4.1,were in the forum it's normaly has to be with AS 3.8???
I believe very much the probleme is in the activesync software put on the xda exec (sry i'm not very technical to try defferentes things;it's just suggestion) thx for u everybody to try to get this exec to sync just dont give up

I had this problem. Try config manually this:
In Settings/Connections/Network Cards :
Select Remote- NDIS Host ----> Use specific IP addrees
IP address = 169.254.2.1
Subnet mask = 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 169.254.2.2 or 169.254.2.1
I have this config and it is working now.
In your PPC Select In : My Network card connects to : "The Internet" and the same should be selected in your PC ActiveSync ---Connections Settings ---This computer is connected to: "The Internet".

Thx for suggestion. I tried that before, and again just now, but it did not work. As mentioned before, I can ping fine both ways, which tells me that DHCP worked and provided correct IP address for communication. Basic hunch is that the problem is with the device, i.e. Activesync on the _device_ ignoring the USB connection. All other software I tried that use the USB connection (whether pure USB, or through the TCP/IP stack) work. So, I am zeroing on activesync on the device, but have reached a dead end, as I don't know which registry settings and processes spawn on the _device_ when activesync starts a USB sync (perhapsone of them is not running).
KJ
kj,
Similar problem. Hard reset, problem now gone. Have you tried HR option yet?
I was planning to do a hard reset, as a last resort (I mentioned once that I wanted to debug the hard way first!). I will do a HR only if you think the problem will go away with a data-persistent HR (WM5 feature), rather than a clean wipe. The reason is that if I am to do a clean HR, I would rather do that when a new ROM is around for an upgrade (as you know the Himlaya ROM development is quite active). If you think a data-persistent HR would rectify this, please elaborate as to what options to choose with bootloader to make that possible.
Thanks!
I'm able to sync but I get the stupid "Unable to obtain IP..." via USB.
Everything is setup correctly and sync works, but the message is anoying and without a cause.
I used eramosipn solution - fixed IP - problem gone. Thanks dude!
I guess something is broken in the registry.
I sync with 2 different PC's and this problem occured on on both. Since the beggining I know this is a PPC problem. Just don't know what to correct.
Anyhow, with the fixed IP the stupid annoying message is gone.
Where can we found the correct registry settings related to USB activesync?
Activesync and Firewalls
I have a personal firewall in my pc (sygate).
I upgrade to windows 2005, everthing was fine.
Someday stop working.
After research I find that if I disable the Sygate Firewall service ( In Control Panel) it starts working.
Can this be the case for you?
Do you have any firewall in you system (including xp firewall)?
Try to disable or uninstall.
Hi
I am not sure if will help anyone but her goes.
Upgraded SPV M1000 to WM 2005 most recent 1.71a 64.
Upgraded desktop Windows XP and Company Lap with activesync 4.1.
I now have 3 different reactions from activesync.
1. No problems with Home desktop (outlook 2003 running in none exchange server mode).
2. Will not sync with comany laptop (Outlook in exchange server mode) while working at home offline (not connected to company server).
3. No problems to sync with Company Latop (Outlook in exchange server mode) when working online to company server.
Anybody found away to solve instance 2?
Thanks Mike
MTU problem?
I cannot recall where I read this, and cannot find any references via Google except for Sygate firewall MTU issue, but I did read somewhere that Activesync 4.x defaults to an MTU size of 8000 while the USB TCP driver starts having problems above 5000.
I used DrTCP to set the MTU much lower for every Windows Mobile Device interface (you will get one created for each independent USB port to which the Pocket PC is or has been connected). Currently I am at 2048 and connectivity for my Universal is much better than it was, although still far from reliable.
Hope this helps!
check this link
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm
it solves the 85010014 error in point 4 and below.... to be honest, it solves all ASync probs.
Hi folks.
My Tornado (imate sp5) was flashed from factory WM5 to WM6 with VJ Grace 3.3, it worked just fine. One day I lost conenctivity via activesync over the usb cable. BT activesync still works fine. I had not done anything to the connecter port other than using USB cable to activesync occasionally, and to use the wall charger.
After 2 months of going like this, I decided to upgrade to a newer Nitrogen ROM, and I enter the bootloader mode by pressig the camera button and plugging in the usb cable. The three color screen comes just fine.
Now, when I attach the USB cable, I do not see the small writing "USB" at the lower left hand corner.
Also I cannot connect it with Terraterm pro or the RUU utility, says phone is not connected via the USB.
But my usb cable still charges the phone when connected to the PC, even though activesync doesnt do anything.
Is there anything I can do?
Can it be a hardware error? Or a registry change I might have done using smarttweaks (enable/disable charging over usb-- I dont remember). If so can it be restored or undone?
I tried hard resets (clear storage and leftsoftkey/rightsoftkey/powerbutton combinations), but still it doesnt recognise activesync.
My other windows mobile devices get connected to same pc activesync with no problem, using the same data cable. Heck I even repaired by reflashing a friend's Wizard using the same pc and cable last week.
Is it possible that my tornado's usb connector port might have gone poof (it still charges the phone), and is there any remedy to that?
Thanks for reading, and please help..
Regards,
Steve
I've got the same problem. I can't connect via AS:/
I had a similar problem once in a while when I upgraded my phone to WM6; it seemed almost random. One day, the phone wouldn't switch out of Vibrate mode, and ActiveSync wouldn't synch with the phone. The first time it happened, I had VJGrace's 3.3, and 3.4 had just come out, so I went ahead and flashed it. I didn't format binfs or anything (which, in my experience isn't necessary for a functioning OS flash, just a clean one) but it flashed a fresh WM6 on, and the problem went away.
Then, a couple weeks later, I had the same problem again. It was right around the time that VJ's 3.7 came out, so I flashed that (again without format binfs) and it fixed the problem again.
Then, a couple weeks later, I had the same problem yet again. This time, Nitro's Platinum Edition had just come out, so I flashed it. Haven't had the problem again.
Interesting note - since I got my Tornado, my first Smartphone, I have only ever done the format binfs once - the first time I flashed WM6. Haven't done it since. It's my opinion that format binfs gives you a CLEAN install of WinMobile, but is not strictly necessary.
So, to summarize: try direct-flashing a new WM6 install. Just plug in the USB cable - ignore ActiveSync when it fails to synchronize - and run the updater program. It'll take care of the rest, even if AS doesn't synch.
djsleepwalker:
If you lost USB connectivity, how did you flash your phone?
Should I read between the lines that the bootloader connected properly and that it was a WM6 driver problem?

To be totally honest, I'm not 100% certain. See, ActiveSync wouldn't SYNCH with the phone, but I could still "Explore" the phone. WM6 was active and working, and charged via USB cable, it just wouldn't synch.
So, after I connected the USB cable and ActiveSync popped up a message that said it couldn't synchronize with the phone, I just started up the ROMUpdateUtility program. It rebooted the phone into the bootloader for me.
I honestly never tried to start it back up in bootloader mode. The only reason I decided to just flash a new ROM was because I had already downloaded the ROM, but where I was at the time, I had no internet access (and therefore couldn't remember the steps before flashing the new ROM.) A friend of mine who has a Wizard (and who, I think, might be a member of this forum) suggested that I didn't *have* to format binfs to put an updated ROM on the phone, so I said screw it. I needed it out of Vibrate mode (my phone is my second alarm - my second line of defense against oversleeping) so I flashed the new ROM.
ninja edit: If ccpraveen is getting *nothing* when he connects the USB, then my suggestion probably won't help. But if Windows recognizes something being connected, and he can *explore* the phone, but ActiveSync just won't synchronize, then he's probably having the same problem I was. I can't tell for sure from reading his post.
Sweet...
Thanks for the comments, its all dejavu again
Djsleepwalker's comments did make me wonder, hey this is exactly my problem, except that mine doesnt connect in any manner.
Lots of similarities, problems started with VJ 3.3, on and off for a while with USB, then totally lost connection.
I am not concerned with formatting BINFS now, I somehow want to get the phone recognized.
Exitao has actually asked a VERY VALID query. It is indeed impossible to flash a phone without any USB connectivity (unless via an SD image or something). Djsleepwalker's issue was minimal, only that the PC was not showing up the activesync as connected, but indeed there WAS a connection, he could explore the phone from the pc etc, and I bet if he did go into the 3 color screen, he would have seen the "USB" on the left lower portion.
So, mine is just that. No connectivity. Nada. PC just sits dumb. Phone just gets charged, and finally into the fully charged green LED. Thats it.
Could there be something in VJ's ROM that is doing this?
I wonder, because a Wizard I once tried to repair would not let me flash upgrade either. I had to go back to a basic BUTTON ROM to get the upgrades running properly again. But there atleast I had connectivity then.
After I read DJ's comments, I tried running the RUU straight, without getting into the bootloader (for a change). Again its the same error 260. Here is a screenshot.
Anybody?

Steve
It seems, from the description, that the activesync profile became corrupt.
Deleting any device profiles from Activesync and connecting the phone as a new device might also solve the problem. However, it might be active synch on the phone that is the problem...
Anyone unsure how serious their problem is should just turn off the USB connect in activesync, start the phone into boot loader and do an "info 2" with terraterm pro.
If terraterm discovers the device, the USB is not the problem. It's activesynch.
Terraterm pro would not connect either.
I started the phone into bootloader by plugging in the usb while keeping the camera button pressed. Started the terraterm pro, selected Serial > USB, clicked Ok, Terraterm says ERROR, Cannot Open.
One minor thing, what do ppl normally see in their bootscreens? I see these lines, Tornado IPL 2.00 Tornado SPL 2.00.0000 and another line Tornado IU.
I dont remember seeing this third line saying Tornado IU before. Is it normal? It is in the middle zone( green coloured zone).
I believe my usb connector port might have a physical error. What else it could be. PC just will not detect ANY sort of USB connection.
Thanks again Exitao, I am stumped.
Regards
Steve
Have you tried any other USB ports on your computer? I know it's a longshot, but on my desktop PC one of the onboard USB ports just doesn't function at all. The other three do.
ninja edit: Maybe try it on another computer, too?
I tried on all four USB ports of my laptop, as well as on another Desktop PC I have.
Even without activesync installed, plugging in this should bring out a DING, saying something has been connected to the PC USB. (and asking for drivers, if Activesync was not installed. Here nothing happens, no DING). Remember, the same USB port is being used to sync my Wizard, Blackjack 2 and my old Himalaya even now.
Another possible reason, I was using a dumb chinese charger for charging the phone, after I lost the original one. Could that might have fried the usb pins?

Please excuse me if I'm stating the obvious, or if I'm a bit off, as I don't haven't used my Tornado in a bit (upgraded to Touch Cruise), but in the last ROM I used, NitroGen's latest WM6 version, there was an option in settings to disable usb connectivity and only allow USB charging. Perhaps VJ's ROM has the same option and you activated it. Have you already checked this?
Did you remeber to uncheck "Alllow USB connections" in activesync before you connected the boot-loaded phone?
This may be a hardware problem. Is it possible to use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust or debris from the USB socket on the phone?
Do you have WMStorage on your phone? If not, can you load it onto your storage card and install/run the app and see if the PC will recognise your device as a USB mass storage device?
I guess you also want to check the Device Manager in Windows and check for any exclamaition marks (!) or "bangs." Both with the phone disconnected and connected, and maybe even with wmstorage enabled. If it does show your phone in the device manager, delete or remove the device in the manager and reboot.
(To get to device manager, you can right click on "my computer" and select "properties", or press the Windows key and the Pause/Break key, or go to the control panel applet.)
BTW: is this XP?
If you are using Vista, try the following:
Step 1: Press Start
Step 2: Select settings
Step 3: Select (6) Connections
Step 4: Select (0) More
Step 5: Select (1) USB to PC
Changing the type of USB connection your device uses can help with problems
connecting ActiveSync.
Step 6: Disable the option - Enable advanced network functionality
Step 7: Press done 3 times
Step 8: Return to main screen.
Step 9: Uninstall unrecognized USB device in device manager (on PC)
Step 10: reboot Phone and reconnect
Click to collapse
If XP, keep going...
You've stated that the PC is recognising your other devices. Isn't there a limit to the number of windows mobile devices you can sync or associate with one installation of activesync? Can you delete a device and try again?
Is USB charging enabled or disabled in your phone? Try toggling the setting to opposite whatever it is.
If you are using a firewall app, add these programs to your firewall's exemptions:
# Wcesmgr.exe
# Wcescomm.exe
# Rapimgr.exe
Or simply disable any firewalls, network traffic optimisers or possibly antivirus (some have network protections) app to test if that has an effect.
Ok guys..
I will try doing all these, step by step and lets see
And accept my sincere gratitude from my heart for detailing all these info for me, I am soo deeply moved

No need for thanx. If I helped, just give Nitro a donation on my behalf.
Well guys, with deep regret, I must say, even after trying all that, the phone stays put. PC wont recognise it, neither as a phone nor as a mass storage device. The connector port must have gone kaput.
I kinda feel stupid, u know, with all the tweaks and hacks out there, what use it is, if the dumb thing wont be recognised? Hmm.. So much for the tornado, now stuck at VJ 3.3 (unless someone find a way to flash via an SD image or something).
Well, thanks guys, your support did make me feel better, in the WM world, all is not lost, as long as there are good souls like you, willing to help, live and let live.
Regards
Steve.
PS: If the phone was not recognised in the bootloader mode, (ie even before the operating system has kicked in), I guess there should not be any difference if activesync was installed or not; and if or not mass storage option is enabled or not, right? Well, correct me if I am wrong, I think so. Could be wrong.
This is probably a useless comment, but have you tried using bluetooth instead of usb to connect to your computer?
Have u tried to delete the network card from XP device manager ?
U can also disable advanced network functionnality from your smartphone in "settings" -> "connections" -> "USB to PC"
Good luck
Can You Tried Different Usb Cable :d
i have some problem, after flashing to WM6 activesync or WM5torage can't connect..i have HTC prophet too, and i use same usb cable & PC, my HTC Prophet still can connect via activesync or WM5torage
*please..please..help us
I UPGRADEd vjgace Build_5.2.1616.18120_____v3.7 three days before today i can't connect to usb i tried diffrent app(activesync,wm5storage,internetsharing) but i can't connect so i go to bootloder mode and checked devicemanager i found device so i flashed nitrogenius rom and now working usb. try upgrade other ROM ON BOOTLODER MODE.
Ok I am no newbie to this, but I am sick of the frustration that comes with this problem. I've had me TC for a couple months now and it will not be recognized with my PC. I've had this problem before.... deleting the partnership, changing the USB ports and settings, downloading the newest sync software, and shutting down the fire wall, yet nothing works. The only thing I can do is use Bluetooth, which is to slow to transfer files. I need some help here, because even backing up everything on the phone and doing a hard reset takes too long to restore what I have on it now.
try to unmark ->settings->connections->usbtoPC-> enhanced network functions.
sorry, i have a german one, so look for that function.
I have the same problem with my o2 xda orbit 2.
I found that if I turned off the bluetooth and wifi it connected ok but even that seems to have stopped working now.
I got it back
I shut off the windows firewall with Vista and it works every time now. This is odd since I always had it on before and never made a change to the settings. In fact once I had given permission for windows mobile center to run with the security I never had this problem before. All I can say is it is a serious pain to disable it every time I want to access my files on the phone.
the joys of activesync......
I'm running XP-Pro on both my home and desktop PC's
with my orbit 2 I have no problem connecting at home, but failed miserably at work (other than the first time after I'd installed activesync).
I'd concluded that it was my firewall settings (which are outside of my authority to alter) we're the cause of the problem and gave up.
What usually happens is an activesync connection is established (I alway click on cancel in the first box - because I don't want to sync files etc, just to be able to explore and install software), and then when I click on explore (after it says connected) it just hangs for a minutes or so, before disconnecting.
However, I hooked up my Orbit2 to my laptop in my hotel last night (to charge) and I noticed that I could explore. OK I thought, it was the firewall.
But then today I tried exactly the same thing, and we're back to the non communicating version.
Any ideas,
Any ways to force activesync into submission - even if just at the explore level?
Thanks
simple joys
Well Vista doesn't use active sync, but I'll try to give you what I have learned. First it always helps to have the latest version of the software. I'd delete active sync from the computer and end the partnership on the phone. The phone then says to hook it up with a computer to establish a connection. Before you do restart both. Download newest version from windowsmobile, install and restart again. Disable firewall and any antivirus ( it makes a difference ) and try to establish the new partnership. If that doesn't work sometimes the comm ports are wrong and you have to find out which your phone uses. Once I had a Moto Q9h unbranded that would not sync with USB no matter what I did from the start, but it would work with a bluetooth sync. That was the worst speed ever. Anyway Good Luck.
Thanks,
yes I am using the latest (for XP) active sync.
I also uninstalled it / re-installed it
I also deleted the profile
All to no avail
Virus / Firewall settings are locked on this laptop.
Same problem
I'm using vista, uninstalled and reinstalled the last version of ActiveSync, deleted the partnership and the phone does not not connect to the pc. I dunno what to do .
p.s. : firewall is off.
no sync with xp and vista
hi
I see that Im not alone...Isync my polaris with my personal pc (vista 32) and with my professional pc (xp pro).
my rom is Aserg (many rom tested before like Bepe....same PB)
its impossible to sync both pc. I have to erase partner ship each time I want to sync.
Im not sure, but I think that windows 61 is responsible. Is that possible ? thank you for helping me !

You said you updated active sync, but Vista doesn't use that program. You need to use Windows mobile device center. If you go to windowsmobile.com there is an update you can download that you install with the phone connected. That might work.

You have to delete every time, because once it is synced with one computer it establishes a relationship with that pc or laptop. The two operating systems use two different programs, but really the computers should have the partnership saved. I'm not sure if the phone can have two as well though.
I was recently upgrading my Blackjack 2 to WM 6.1 and a power interruption occurred soon after the process begun. Now I cant get the phone to restart the process. It just goes into a count down from 4 and always disconnects after the countdown finishes. This is the what I get now at the end of the countdown while I in Bootloader mode.
USB Initial: OK
PC Connection: Fail
[Phone] Active OFF
[PDA] USB Cable Power OFF
I am using a windows Vista computer. Can anyone tell me how to get the upgrade process restarted or how to get the phone back to wm6. I already formatted the phone's hard drive after the failure during the upgrade process.

Thank You The fix worked.
Do you have any idea how to keep the internet connection between my Blackjack 2 and vista pc active. I get the my vista pc to use the blackjack 2 as a modem via the usb cable for about about an hour then it disconnects and I have hell trying to get the connection re-established.
I dont have this problem with bluetooth which is much slower than the usb cable connection

Run Internet Explorer --> Menu --> Tools --> Options --> Connection --> check Automatically detect setting. Done.
problem still exist
no the problem still exist. It has something to do with NDIS or DHCP lease obtain and lease expire. The usb ICS works fine when I connect before the lease expires. After the lease expires the physical and IP addresses do not immediately renew as is the case with bluetooth. This causes me to not be able to use the Blackjack ICS via the usb cable for some time. Then it renews after several computer and phone restarts. I dont know if the problem is with Activesync. But my bluetooth does not use Activesync and it has its own software which is stable. I am always able to use ICS via bluetooth but not the usb which uses Activesync. Are there any tweaks or connection managers for ICS via USB?

Thank you SO MUCH
nhathoa, I would just like to thank you for the link you provided. I was stuck for about two hours trying to figure this out, and Samsung was telling me that I had to send my phone in, and seeing as how it's the only phone I have, I would have been without one for a while.
But the link you gave fixed the problem perfectly. I can't thank you enough.
I just have to say a million thanks to NhatHoa!
had the same concern as described above. As BlackJack2 is not an European model, my local Samsung workshop couldn´t help me. Also other unofficial workshops couldn´t do it. And I´ve found these instructions here and I thought, what the heck! There´s nothinh to lose anymore. And my BJ works now! Followed exactly the instructions and it took like some 15 minutes to complete the whole process.
Hate to bump old threads
I hate to bump a old thread but I just had the same problem with my blackjack 2, While updating to 6.1 it somehow just quit and left the phone bricked. I can put the phone in usb downloader mode but when I connect it to my computer it does nothing.
Can someone please send me the file that was posted on a earlier post? I tried to download it and it was gone.
I dont have any warranty left and would really like to get my phone working again
Thanks
I have a strange problem with a HTC Touch PRO. Here is my problem:
- I insert the USB cable and the phone asks if I want to use mass storage or activesync
-the phone shows a connection on the screen
-The PC is not sensing anything, the activesync is not connected.
I think this problem appeared after I used a wrong usb cable...
Anyone knows anything what to try? or this is a hardware problem?
Did you select ACTIVESYNC?
There are 2 modes this phone can do..
1) Standard ActiveSYNC or
2) AS a MASS STORAGE DEVICE -like a flash drive...
You have to select ActiveSYNC to actually SYNC software/calendar, else it will show up as just another drive to drag/drop files..
Yes i did it in every way and the computer is not sensing the connection with the phone.
Anyone know what kinf of hardware is responsible for the connection with the pc?

The problem is likely with your operating system on your pc.
You can try things like, un-installing the HTC usb driver in device manager.
Check your firewall.
- allow activesync for trusted
- I know for ZoneAlarm you have to go to the adapters section and set the ipaddress (a new one is created when your phone is hooked up via USB) to be trusted.
If that doesn't fix issue perhaps its a corrupt install of ActiveSync. Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

I've had this happen to me. I've got so many USB to mini-USB cables and they are not all alike.
Sometimes, it would work and sometimes activesync would not recognize it.
CHANGE YOUR CABLE to another. Hopefully, you've labeled the original cable that came with the phone..
(also, look at the mini cable where it plugs into your phone. Make sure there are no loose pins and/or verify that the 'plug' is level.
Try a different USB port
Try unchecking "use advanced network configuration" in Async settings on the phone. Some computers (for various reasons) have a hard time communicating with the phone when it's configured as a network device - unchecking this will often allow Async to find and connect to the phone, at the expense of some other functionality.
coincendentally i am having the same exact issue, it started last night.
i have tried 3 different cords, on all 3 usb ports on my computer. same thing the phone asks what kind of connection i want whether i select disk drive ofr active sync noting happens. whats weird is that the phone is charging when its connected however the computer is not seeing it at all.
i have tried all the recommendations in this thread but nothing is working. anymore help would be greatly apprciated!
Me too I have tryed everything but none is working.
I think that this a hardware problem, and the problem started to happen after i used a non HTC cable, bad quality. I think some kind of controller is dead. So i started to live with that
When I connteced to the PC via USB, my TP also asked me how to connect (AS or as disc). But suddenly it doesn't ask anymore. I had to deactivate "advanced network configuration" to conntect to AS.
The checkbox "ask each time USB connects" is activated.
What can I do that the phone asks again when I connect it?
Thx.
I have the same thing going on... suddenly a few days ago my fuze only charges when I plug it in the desktop with a usb cable... I re-flashed and it worked about halfway through a sync and then started again... I've tried different cables... uninstalled all of the usb drivers, and reinstalled then updated them... Disconnected the power supply... tried every setting on my phone, and in windows.... I've even uninstalled the last batch of windows updates that came out last week... nothing seems to work...
really simple solution.
decheck advanced network config. plug in cable wait till you see usb connected. a small box. after that choose for example activesync
internet share
This happened to me last night and I figured out that after you toggle your internet sharing you can sync up again. Idk why it works out like that but it worked for me.
This sound reasonable, because the last thing I did before was selecting the "internet sharing" option in the menu when you connect to USB.
But what do you mean with "toggle your internet sharing"? Can you please describe it.
Thx.
try this
okay - first see if you're getting an active connection with your pc , not from the network connections window, but by running mymobiler. I was getting a connection through mymobiler, but active sync wasn't recognizing the device. If mymobiler works, Call your phone. it will drop your connection with mymobiler when you answer the call. then hang up the phone call. (all the while leaving your cable plugged into your phone. When the call has been disconnected your activesync will recognize the connection and sync up again. I don't know why this works, but I've been able to duplicate the results several times.
Same htc ****+ wm. Bought an iphone 3g. Everything must be tuned in windows mobile! It doesn't work how it should!
None of this seems to be working... I've even flashed new roms and it stops working halfway through the sync... it doesn't even appear as though windows recognizes the device... it makes no noise or pop-up when I connect it...
Still charges though... Don't know what is going on...
Reinstall Mobile Device Manager!

I've experienced this issue multiple times, as I use my TP to sync with many stations. The solution is way more simple than you think and it has nothing to do with cables!.
You probably use Win Vista so all you need is to uninstall "Windows Mobile Device Center", restart the PC and install a fresh copy from MS site.

If you're on XP, do the same with the Active sync solution for XP.
Good luck!
yeah this happens to me every now and then. the advanced network configuration option really helps, but sometimes i just need to plugin/unplug the usb cable from teh phone/cable or cable/computer a couple more timesbefore it picks it up...
goodluck!
