Install/Run Java apps (J2ME) ? - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Is the NexusOne capable of Installing/Runing Java apps (J2ME) ?
I tried clicking on a .jad file it didn't know what to do with it.
Or do we need to root it and add the J2ME JRE ? Even then I dont think it will know how to run on Android. (where to put icons, data)

There's been an app to run j2me on android for years called MIDP Runner. Doesn't require root.

Nice, works fine. Converts the .jad to a .apk, then you install the .apk

Crashes immediately when I run it on my N1. Any other options that don't require rooting?

1. It is (in addition to, say, Bluezard - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1226139 ); see my related review at, say, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277726
2. Dunno if your WM6 contains .NET CF 1. If it doesn't, you'll want to install CF1SP3 available at http://www.winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/CF1SP3/netcf.all.wce4.ARMV4.rar
3. Moving the thread to General because it is generic enough to have value to generic (not just Tornado) users.

EDIT: i just tried to install CF1SP3 but it told me it wasnt intended for my device. and because i couldnt get CF1SP3 to install, i still can't get Sniper to work.

Well I remember that when I have started app that needed .net framework on wm5 it said something like that the app cannot start because I don't have .net framework installed.
This is still an ongoing problem for me... Many apps crash saying that it could not find .Net CF 2.0, yet I know that WM6 already comes with it and when I try to install it, it tells me that it already has a newer one installed.

Question regarding NET Framework 3.5

Does this update from Microsoft can be installed to my SD Card? Any real advantages of installing this new version?
I remember updating my previous devices from version 1 to version 2, and it installed to the MAIN Memory, thus eating up my precious RAM.
Can anyone shed some light? I don't want to try it and then will end up hard resseting later.
the only thing it does it to make your device able to run .net programs compiled for
.net3.5 it should not change anything for older .net1.1 or .net2 compiled apps

Android Market on Emulator SDK 1.5

Is it possible to run Android Market on SDK 1.5?
It works on 1.1 with installing the 4 files: vending.apk, talk.apk, gtalkservice.apk, setupwizard.apk
anybody knows how to make it work in 1.5?
Thanks
you have to download the google developer phone images (system.img userdata.img) from the HTC site and overwrite them in the emulator image directory (don't remember exactly where it is)
find image files
do you know where can i find custom rom images ? the system.img userdata.img etc
Thanks

Try to use the search function .... http://www.google.at/search?hl=de&s...r+phone+images+inurl:htc.com&btnG=Suche&meta=
This search will lead you to http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/google-io-device.html
I can boot the Ion ROM image, but it refuses to use the LAN (emulator pass-through) connection so Marked is not really a possibility after all.
I can use it without any modification
It's the same for me: with the files (recovery.img, system.img and ramdisk.img) from the HTC package, the emulator works well but the network connection is missing. What's your procedure?
I wonder if we can just pull out the proper .apk's and .odex files from the Ion ROM image and install/replace on the stock Cupcake image in the emulator. I did this with the Amazon application but have thus far not been successful with the marked.
I got it to work by doing following:
1) Downlaoded and installed the android SDK.
2) Run the command prompt and go to the tools dir in the SDK.
3) Greated an avd with 1.5 as target with the a default hardware profile. ('android list target' get a list of targets, 'android create avd -n enhanced -t 2' creates the avd as target 2)
4) Download and unzip this image file. update-cm-3.6.5-signed.system.img.zip extracted it and put the system.img in the enhanced.avd folder.
5) Opened the emulator through a project in eclipe. But can be done as command as well 'emulator -avd enhanced'.
6) When android is running i first went to market and it seemed to work fine except that the downloads never started. So i tryed to install the MarketEnabler.apk and everything worked fine.
The system image is a developer image, and loading android on the emulator first time took quite a while.
So finally i can get the apps from Android market on the non-google branded mobile
ddms file explorer does not work
Wow, market now works on my emulator.
However when i tried to pull the apk from the emulator, the ddms's file explorer does not work.
How do you pull apps ?
please help.
thanks
can't pull apk files
the same here ....
I got he emulator working with Android Market - apps are downloading fine
... but how do you get to those apk files downloaded to emulator AVD - so that you can then install them on non-google branded Sapphire device ?
many thanks
has anyone got the gps emulator working with update-cm-3.6.5-signed.system.img.zip ? Would really like to test out gps apps and keep market apps enabled. I can only get geo fix to work with GSM disabled.

Is this possible on 2.1 now or is it just for 1.5 still?
And if so where can i find the img file?
I would love to know if this work with 2.1 as well.
I made a Android 2.2 system.img with market,
su and busybox for Android SDK AVD, that you can download here: http://www.ehalm.at/avd-2-2-market.php?l=en
There is also an installation guide.
Please read them through so does the Market correct.
This video will explain again how to make the market work:
Thanks Ehalm, your system.img helped me a great deal because I have a Velocity Micro Cruz Tablet without the Android Market. After a few days of tinkering I was able to get the Market and protected apps on a SDK AVD under Linux Lubuntu!!!
Here's a link to a thread I started in Slatedroid forum to help Cruz Tablet Owners.

g1 with open gl 2 (es) ?

hi!
is it possible to install open gl 2 on g1 devices?
i have found only this .jar ?
http://code.google.com/p/gl2-android/downloads/list
It would be revolutionary if it becomes possible.....we would be able to play so many games smoothly which we cant play now...
and would be able to use SPB shell 5.0 on G1....
and what not.....
I think I read somewhere that the hardware on the G1 does not support Open GL 2 but hey, who knows, *they* said we couldn't get honeycomb on our devices and look what happened I hope progress can be made with this..
EDIT: wow, support is old...
OpenGL 2 ES adds shaders. I don't think the Qualcomm chip in our G1's can do that. For those who don't understand, think pixel shaders in Direct X. I doubt that the MSM7201A was that advanced.
I'm happy roms now come with OpenGL 1.1.
Hi.
Hmm..okay! i need this for a game.
Does anyone know the Dungeon Defender App? Sure
one could perhaps avoid the OpenGL2 thing? Would like to test the game ...
But it does not start because there is no OpenGL2 (error) :/
Would run the game on the new LG p990 (optimus speed) ? is this good devices?
heh you could change your build.prop to fool the game into thinking you have open GL2 although i don't know if it would work. Theoretically, it would, as you could change your opengl version from 1.0 to 1.1.

But then if the game in question called shaders...

How can you upgrade from opengl 1.0 to opengl 1.1?
Do I need to copy any library files and change any conf files?
good point..
But assuming the game does not require shaders, Find some other build in the tegra section (or at least I think xda has the section) or some device that supports open gl 2.0, download the rom, then open the zip file and then navigate to /system/build.prop, then search for a line that contains the words 'gles' and then has some numbers after it. Copy/remember the number. Then copy the number you just found to the build.prop of the rom you are using now via astro file manager or something and find the same line with the words 'gles' and then delete the old number and replace the new number with it.

That's an awful lot of trouble to go thru. Currently the default value in most of our builds is 65536. In hex that's 0x10000. If you want to set it to GLES 1.1, change it to (0x10001) 65537. If you want to set it to 2.0 change it to (0x20000) 131072.

Ok I'll try both suggestions. Thanks!
But is it just it? Don't I also need to copy any library files? Upgrade the ones I already have to their newer versions (1.1 or 2.0) besides the change in build.prop?
Of course you also need the 1.1 libraries.

Well I updated the build.prop as proposed and also copied the updated libGLES_qcom.so file to /system/lib/egl overwriting the old one.
Is that all? Are there any other files that need updating? The device booted up fine, however it still shows version OpenGL ES - CM 1.0 in logcat.
There are some roms that come with OpenGL 1.1, if you don't mind flashing and wiping your phone.

[Q] FlexGet for android?

Did you ever get an answer to this? I am working on getting Flexget to work, but it seems like an uphill battle. I am trying to use optware. I have installed python + easy_install + pip, but I am not able to run pip. I was considering trying to install using git. Anyway, I hope to have this done eventually, but if you have figured out how to get it to work I would be more than happy to do it your way.
Got it working! I have been running this for a couple weeks now and everything is quite stable. Here is a link to my how to.
