Android Market on Emulator SDK 1.5 - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

Is it possible to run Android Market on SDK 1.5?
It works on 1.1 with installing the 4 files: vending.apk, talk.apk, gtalkservice.apk, setupwizard.apk
anybody knows how to make it work in 1.5?
Thanks

you have to download the google developer phone images (system.img userdata.img) from the HTC site and overwrite them in the emulator image directory (don't remember exactly where it is)

find image files
do you know where can i find custom rom images ? the system.img userdata.img etc
Thanks

Try to use the search function .... http://www.google.at/search?hl=de&s...r+phone+images+inurl:htc.com&btnG=Suche&meta=
This search will lead you to http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/google-io-device.html

I can boot the Ion ROM image, but it refuses to use the LAN (emulator pass-through) connection so Marked is not really a possibility after all.

I can use it without any modification

It's the same for me: with the files (recovery.img, system.img and ramdisk.img) from the HTC package, the emulator works well but the network connection is missing. What's your procedure?

I wonder if we can just pull out the proper .apk's and .odex files from the Ion ROM image and install/replace on the stock Cupcake image in the emulator. I did this with the Amazon application but have thus far not been successful with the marked.

I got it to work by doing following:
1) Downlaoded and installed the android SDK.
2) Run the command prompt and go to the tools dir in the SDK.
3) Greated an avd with 1.5 as target with the a default hardware profile. ('android list target' get a list of targets, 'android create avd -n enhanced -t 2' creates the avd as target 2)
4) Download and unzip this image file. update-cm-3.6.5-signed.system.img.zip extracted it and put the system.img in the enhanced.avd folder.
5) Opened the emulator through a project in eclipe. But can be done as command as well 'emulator -avd enhanced'.
6) When android is running i first went to market and it seemed to work fine except that the downloads never started. So i tryed to install the MarketEnabler.apk and everything worked fine.
The system image is a developer image, and loading android on the emulator first time took quite a while.
So finally i can get the apps from Android market on the non-google branded mobile

ddms file explorer does not work
Wow, market now works on my emulator.
However when i tried to pull the apk from the emulator, the ddms's file explorer does not work.
How do you pull apps ?
please help.
thanks

can't pull apk files
the same here ....
I got he emulator working with Android Market - apps are downloading fine
... but how do you get to those apk files downloaded to emulator AVD - so that you can then install them on non-google branded Sapphire device ?
many thanks

has anyone got the gps emulator working with update-cm-3.6.5-signed.system.img.zip ? Would really like to test out gps apps and keep market apps enabled. I can only get geo fix to work with GSM disabled.

sorry i also hv same problem...
i cant pull apk from the emulator... hav someone get pull the soft from the emulator??? if yes... please tell the steps...

Is this possible on 2.1 now or is it just for 1.5 still?
And if so where can i find the img file?

I would love to know if this work with 2.1 as well.

I made a Android 2.2 system.img with market,
su and busybox for Android SDK AVD, that you can download here: http://www.ehalm.at/avd-2-2-market.php?l=en
There is also an installation guide.
Please read them through so does the Market correct.
This video will explain again how to make the market work:

Thanks Ehalm, your system.img helped me a great deal because I have a Velocity Micro Cruz Tablet without the Android Market. After a few days of tinkering I was able to get the Market and protected apps on a SDK AVD under Linux Lubuntu!!!
Here's a link to a thread I started in Slatedroid forum to help Cruz Tablet Owners.

JFv1.31 Released! (updated 01-03-09)

Update (01-03-09)
v1.31 is out! This is a minor bugfix release to fix a few issues that had cropped up in v1.3.
The changes from v1.3 include:
Fixed the nandroid backup so that it works on sdcards with a raw fat32 filesystem (with no partition)
Added the telnetd binary from RC28
Fixed an issue with SuperUser where it was displaying the wrong processes in the su request popup
SuperUser should allow root to use su without displaying the popup (though there's not much point.. )
Added /system/modules and /system/xbin to fstab in normal and recovery mode
Minor fix for the update-script, so the progress bar acts more sanely
I have the usual RC30 and RC8 versions, and new for v1.3 is an ADP1 version.

These updates are installed the normal way. Save them to your sdcard named update.zip, boot into recovery mode (home + power), and then press alt+l and alt+s. If you are switch between versions, e.g. from RC30 to ADP1, then it's usually a good idea to perform a wipe. You can try booting up without a wipe, but if it doesn't boot, or you get strange errors once it boots up, go back into recovery and perform a wipe (alt+w)
Note: To install these updates, you need to have a recovery image that uses test keys. If any of the following are true, you most likely have a recovery image that uses test keys
- you have installed my modified recovery image in the past
- you have an ADP1
- you currently have one of my modified firmwares installed
What's new?
The coolest new functionality in v1.3 is a new backup utility that allows you to perform a backup directly from recovery mode with alt+B. This is done using infernix's and brainaid's nandroid script, which they kindly modified to work in recovery mode. Let them know what you think . The backups are stored in a subfolder in the nandroid folder on your sdcard. To restore them, you have to copy them to your computer, and then flash them with the fastboot tool (sorry, no integrated restore yet).
If you get errors when making a backup, first make sure you have enough free space on the sdcard. it needs around 85-90mb. If you have enough space, then try reformatting the sdcard (fat32 is your best bet).
Other changes of note include
This version includes a new busybox binary that I compiled against uclibc, making it much smaller (1.8mb vs 700kb).
All busybox applets are linked at /system/xbin/bb, which is also in the path. So there are many more standard unix commands available in the terminal.
Many more modules and binaries are included in /system/xbin and /system/modules. They were also optimized for size, so even though there are more modules and binaries, they actually take up much less space than they did on v1.2
I added the terminal emulator application to /system/app. (don't worry, it won't, or at least shouldn't , cause any problems if you already have it installed)
got rid of the normal su binary, in favor of koush's su and SuperUser application. See details here
when you boot up into recovery, it will automatically show the text. You can press alt+L to turn off the text and ogle the background. (did I mention there's a new background? shhh. it's a secret )
fixed the annoying uptime bug, where the uptime is shown incorrectly in the settings
added /data/local/bin to the path. Feel free to add your own binaries/scripts here.
includes the /dev/mtd/mtd6 and /dev/mtd/mtd6ro devices, which allow access to the entire flash chip (other than certain restricted areas used by the radio)
new "ro.modversion" property, that is set to "JFv1.3". The intent of this property is so you can know you are running a modified version, as well as identify which version
added a modified /system/etc/security/cacerts.bks file, which contains additional certificates for cacert.org (courtesy of Disconnect)
added a /system/etc/resolv.conf file with the 4.2.2 family of DNS servers, to allow busybox's ping, wget, etc. to resolve host names
See the attached change logs for a complete list of changes with respect to the corresponding "official" firmware.

Update (01-03-09): Updated the links to point to the v1.31 versions
In addition to the updates themselves, I am also releasing a build environment that can use to build each update from scratch. You can use these to easily make your own custom updates. It includes some utilities that were built from git source. The binaries are for 32bit x86 linux. If you want to run it on a different platform, you're on your own.
NOTE: You don't need these to use my update. Just download one of the updates from above and install it. The build environments are only if you want to make your own customized update.
The general idea of the build environment is that it extracts the original files from the official update (or from my original ADP1 update), and then copies over anything from the various ModifiedFiles folders, then packages it all back up into a ready-to-be-applied update.zip. It does this for the boot image, recovery image and system folder. You can also specify files to delete in the various OriginalFilesToDelete.mk files.
Consider anything new that I created for the build environments (the makefiles, etc.) to be in the public domain. Everything else retains its original license of course.
Instructions:
- extract the build environment into a folder
- download the official update that the update is based on, and put it in the root of the build environment. (note: use my original ADP1 update for the ADP1 build environment. available on this page)
- run make as root. yes, it has to be with root, because the binaries in the 2 cramfs images should be owned by root. (note: I plan on using fakeroot in the future, to workaround the need to be root)
- after make finishes, assuming there are no errors, the update should be in Workspace/update.zip.
Download the build environments here:

So what would we need to do to replace the browser with Koush's auto-rotating version and how about replacing the alarm clock with Klaxon?
This is awesome! a little pre 2009 present! thanks JF for all that you do !!!
Just posting to say this update worked a-ok for me. Thanks JF for changing busybox and for the new su.

Download the build environment for the version you want, extract it, put the klaxon and browser apk into system/ModifiedFiles/system/app, put in a delete entry into system/ModifiedFiles/OriginalFilesToDelete.mk for the alarm apk and odex, then run make as root.

Are there any specific binaries I need to install?

You might be able to get it to work. You'll need to replace the linux binaries in the tools folder with windows equivalents.
But tbh, you're best bet is to install vmware and get an ubuntu VM running.
Did a quick search and could not find what ADP1 is. Is this the developer version?

Ah, thanks for the confirmation.
Is there anyone out there that can tackle this for me? I'm visiting family through the 5th, and don't feel right installing a linux VM on their computer.
If so, PM me, and I can give you the specifics, but really all I'd like is for the alarm clock to be removed and replaced with Klaxon, and for the browser to be replaced with koush's build that auto-rotates.
This would be for a G1 RC30 build.
Cheers, and thanks in advance!

Thanks JF, I just flashed the ADP1 version and it is working great so far.
Have you attempted to add in the MyFaves app to the ADP build? I had tried a couple of things previously, but I was running into some errors. I may try it with your new build environment later if it is something you haven't attempted.
BTW - for those looking for a virtualized Linux environment, I also recommend Sun's Virtualbox (http://www.virtualbox.org/). It is free for personal use and provides a lot of the functionality that you get from the paid versions of VMWare. In fact, some things seem to run smoother when running Linux virtualized on Vista 64bit; i.e. I can get copy/paste between OSes and auto-resizing guest screens without a lot of extra hassle. Just make sure that you read up on how to use the USB virtualization so you can create the filter for the phone as a USB device.
Great work once again JesusFreke!

You can always do it manually of course. Install the update, then remount the system as rw, then delete the alarm apk and odex and the browser apk and odex from /system/app, and copy the klaxon and modified browser apk to /system/app

Couldn't you also use an Ubuntu LiveCD just as easily? That would allow temporary access to a 'nix environment without touching the existing drive, mount one of the partitions temporarily for your make environments. Just a thought...

[ICON] Replace the stock Android browser icon with Chrome

Ive always found it interesting that Android’s stock browser does not have the Chrome browser icon, seeing as it technically is a mobile version of Chrome. So, I did some quick reversing and took the stock 2.2 browser and replaced the icon. The result is a new Browser.apk, identical to the original stock one except for the changed icon.
To install this, just read on for the full instructions. Note that we will be backing up your stock Browser.apk so you can easily revert the changes. Also note that this requires root.
Firstly, you need the Android SDK, available for Windows, Linux and OSX here
The following instructions are for Linux, but given you have set up the SDK correctly, the instructions are the same regardless of which operating system you use.
Firstly, connect your rooted phone running Android 2.2 to your computer. Then download the new Browser.apk and save it. Note that for some reason, the file name gets changed from Browser.apk to browser.apk when you download, so be sure to rename it.
Open up a terminal and navigate to the directory in which you saved your Browser.apk and then type in the following..
Code:
adb remount
Then we will take a backup of your current Browser.apk.
Code:
adb pull /system/app/Browser.apk Browser.apk.original
Then we will push over the new Browser.apk
Code:
adb push Browser.apk /system/app/Browser.apk
Lastly, we reboot the phone
Code:
adb reboot
After the phone boots back up, you will notice the new icon in your launcher menu. Enjoy!
This was tested and confirmed working on my rooted Nexus One running Modaco's rooted Android 2.2 ROM.
Think whoever moved this misunderstood what this is.. its an app basically..
theres something in market called fake chrome that does just this
Sure, but that wont replace the stock browser icon.. it will just add another one.. so then you have two..
Icon looks great; however, FC's on enom 2.11.3

Ah, Im sorry. I can only confirm that it works on Modaco's rooted stock Android 2.2 ROM. If you want I can fix it for you if you give me your original Browser.apk though..

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S GT I-9008 in China. No Android market application !

Hello,
just got a Samsung Galaxy S in China (under the name of samsung GT-I9008) and use it with China Telecom as the carrier/operator
Specs as follows
Model Name : GT-I9008
Hardware version : 1.0
Firmware version : Ophone OS 2.0
Kernel : 2.6.29 Zeus 1
To my biggest disappointment, the phone doesnt come with Android market but with the Mobile phone operator own device called MM ( Mobile Market) which is only in Chinese !! and very limited in terms of applications you could download.
Is there any way I could install instead Android Market ?
Many thanks in advance for your reply
Christophe
I have the same problem in middle east.
Any help please.
I helped a friend with the same phone. Basically do the following:
1. Download and install z4root
2. Download the Cyanogenmod Google Apps (EPE54B)
3. Open up the update.zip file and get Vending.apk out of \system\app\ and copy to SD card using UMS mode.
4. Use File Explorer on the phone to copy the file from /sdcard to /data/app
5. Reboot
Any luck installing Google Apps on i9008 (Samsung Galaxy S for TD-SCDMA)?
Guys,
I followed the instructions posted on this thread and other sites, to help a friend who recently bought this phone. Successfully rooted the phone. Installed the Google Apps as instructed, but they all are malfunctioning to the point of being unusable.
- Gmail - only works OK with one account, will not allow extra accounts
- Google Maps - zooming does not function
- YouTube - does not even start
- Market - gets stuck at 0% download point for any downloaded apps
If someone managed to install any (or all of these) Google Apps on their i9008, I would be grateful for instructions on how to properly install.
thanks!!
I installed after updating the official ROM to the latest version. This is 2.1 eclair rather than 2.0 based so may explain why it doesn't work for some people. In that case, using the cyanogenmod 4 gapps files may work.
Another possibility is that not all files were copied from the extracted update.zip to the relevant places under /system (yes, it is /system, not /data as I mentioned in my last post)
These would be /system/app, /system/framework etc.
I daresay that you'll need to copy all files from the folders in update.zip over to the right places. I had to delete some of the Chinese apps to make space for all gapps.
Tell me if it works for you. Cheers.
Hi ,
thanks for your input! As I am not at all an expert on technical stuff and do not want to have my phone no longer working, please let me recap :
- I have downloaded the file z4root.1.3.0.apk --> then i have to install it on my SD card and launch the application?
- Checked to download the "Cyanogenmod Google Apps (EPE54B) and it appears on ur link that there are dozens of different files according to phone models but none for the Samsung GT I-9008. Kindly let me know which one to consider.
Did your friend with the same phone eventually managed to have all google apps including the english android market by doing such installation?
Again, the specs of my phone are :
Model Name : GT-I9008
Hardware version : 1.0
Firmware version : Ophone OS 2.0
Much appreciate your help !
Best
Christophe
Yes, we did manage to get the English market (and many Google apps) running properly.
With zroot, install then run it, choose the permanent root option. It'll reboot the phone to finish the rooting.
The gapps version you need to download is listed in the Cyanogenmod 5 row (android 2.1 or eclair based) and is under the HDPI column (means high dots per inch, or just a high resolution display as the i9008 has). Any of the links in that entry should be fine if they work.
I have realised that in my last post, I mentioned copying to /system/app. This is not possible unless you do the following:
Get http://androidterm.googlecode.com/files/Term.apk install same way as zroot.
Run it then type:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
Quit out of it then copy the extracted contents of update.zip to the corresponding directories under /system using file explorer.
Same thing happened to me w/
Model Name : GT-I9008
Hardware version : 1.0
Firmware version : Ophone OS 2.0
I had to follow the instructions above
thanks for your input..
Is your phone also operated by China Mobile ? was told that it was not possible to root the GT I-9008 being operated by China Mobile.
Anyhow, will try and follow above process.
Well I have watched an interview for Galaxy S2 and they showed a new technology in it...And told that they are challenging the Android market as Android challenged the Iphone...
How about this? Any news?
Hi, now I need some help...
I playing with my China Mobile I9008 yesterday, and as I trying without sucess to find a way to install the market, I think I installed a wrong version of clockworkmod, now my I9008 is bricked (I think). Its starts but after first screen (where's appears I9008 name and so on) the boot come back to ophone screen and keep in this looping more than 20 times... full wipe and others doesn't work
In my mind if I apply again the update.zip can solve, but my file having problems showing erros, can not read the file, etc...
I tryed to find this file but I have no success...
Someone can help me? have some update.zip to my i9008ZMJI1 firmware version?
Thanks.
Install factory image
Ok, I've been trying to find a way to install CM (and the market app) onto my GT-I9008L and have managed to nearly brick my phone a number of times. The only thing I have succeeded in is rooting my phone (use Z4root) and installing a fresh factory image.
(I apologize for broken links, XDA doesn't trust me to post clickable links yet)
To install a fresh factory image:
a) Get the software from this Chinese thread: bbs.dkdiy.net/thread-12788-1-1.html
--The first message in the thread has a link to a RAR file that contains everything you need. Including all the tools & the image itself
--To see the link you'll have to create an account and post to the thread
--I was able to do it by using a combination of google chrome and google translate to work my through the free registration process.
b) run Odin v1.81 (I've tried other versions of Odin...they don't work)
c) select the files shown in this image: www .dkdiy.net/article.asp?id=633
d) the file versions in the image don't match the RAR file. The key is put the CSC file into the CSC blank, the CP file in the "phone" blank, the "all low" file into the PDA blank and the PIT file into the PIT blank
e) make sure you have selected the checkboxes in the image
f) start your phone by holding volume-down+home+power
g) when you see the yellow android digging plug your phone into your computer (you may need the samsung drivers)
h) wait for odin to detect your phone (the first box under ID:COM will turn yellow and list the com-port that your phone is connected to)
i) hit start, wait about 3 minutes, you will see the progress bar update every 5-10 seconds
j) it will auto reboot and finish the installation
To root your phone I followed the instructions on this chinese thread (use google chrome to get an instant translation):
ibbs.91.com/thread-53590-1-1. html
DUDE!!!
I think i got some good news.
I have the same problem with my new S2 bought in China, no Android market. I've been searching all around the web to try to fix it.
It is still not working for me, but i got a little bit farther though.
I find the hint here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351283
So what i did and what you can try is:
1) Install GoogleServicesFramework.apk
This seems to be the issue, as when you install it you can see the permissions Google requires, and pretty much says the can access ALL the data in your phone. (It would explain the censorship)
2) Install Android Market with any .apk you can find
3) Launch Android Market
The change for me is i can now input my account login. But it still fails connecting to google to actually login. Maybe because i'm still in china and it blocks the connection.
Could any one try this outside china and tell me if it works?
Cheers
EDIT:
By connecting my APN and Wifi (instead of wifi alone) i managed to finally loggin. I HOW NOW ACCESS TO ANDROID MARKET !!!
But not so fast. I have access to the market, but i get an error when downloading an app. So it is still not working, but getting closer. I sent an e-mail to google see if they can fix this (seems my account and my device are still not linked). Waiting for the reply...
Alright it's working now !!!
After exchanging a couple e-mail with google, i managed to download some apps.
I've been testing it for a couple hours now, works like a charm.

ZTE V975

Hi all.
I have a new ZTE V975 and i have it root and with gapps but i have a problem with Play Store compatibility. "Financial" apps aren´t compatible with the phone. I think that it is a location problem in build.prop
The problem is that i dont know modify it.... can someone see this build.prop archive to see if can change it to improve compatibility?
If someone want to see it i can upload it.
Thx.

Hi gargamelxda,
I've got the same phone and noticed the same thing with certain apps on the play store. Basically what I found was the device was missing a bunch of Google support files that were in GAPPS zip. Now I wasn't able to flash the GAPPS.zip file through the built in recovery as it wasn't signed correctly for this phone and there is no custom recovery available yet.
What I ended up doing is extracting the GAPPS zip file to my SD card then used the root explorer function in ES File Explorer to mount /system as RW and move the majority of the extracted /system files to the same location in the device root /system folder. Couple of things to remember though:
1) Don't overwrite anything that's already there (there was only 2 or 3 files already there by memory)
2) If the folder already exists don't copy the whole folder but rather all the files under that folder as you may either stuff up the folder permissions or create a new folder as the android file are case sensative (eg the folder "Apps" is different to "apps")
3) There are some apk files you won't want to copy like the "onetimeinitializer.apk" file as it will run the google first time initialization next time you reboot which may stuff up your settings (although if you're planning on doing a factory reset after doing this it should be OK and all the changes you've made will stick as they're in the /system folder). I also found that if I copied "LatinIMEDictionaryPack.apk" and "GoogleTTS.apk" they would constantly crash after the reboot.
4)Make sure you set the permissions after you're done copying to "-rw-r-r--" for the files and "drwxr-xr-x" for any new folders you create. you can do this individually with ES File Explorer but if you're ok with linuix command line you can do it in batches (eg all files with the apk extension) via the Android Terminal Emulator app or ADB Shell over a USB connection to a PC. I don't remember the exact command lines I used but if you do some searching on this forum you'll find them easy enough.
After a reboot the apps should now be available to install (at least they were for me) via the Play Store.
Usual disclaimer - If you stuff this up you may brick your device and I'm in no way responsible for it.
Hope that helps
Cheers

I spent a few days trying to install Google Play the cyanogenmod way, following instruction on a spanish site similar to what other's have posted here. The idea is to mount the readonly systemfolder using the bootloader and insert/write systemapps into system/apps
I succeeded but for some reason launching google play was killed instantly by some resident app on the phone.
On the MIUI forum somebody called Eric Xiang built a google play apk that kills the resident blocker and installs googleplay !
xttp://en.miui.com/thread-3998-1-1.html
I now have a fully operational V975 (4.2.2) with the latest official build B06 and google play.
Out of the box the phone is unlocked but not rooted.
To root it, install xttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15286951/update.zip using the bootloader (vol+ and power on, when v975 wakes up release power but keep vol+ pressed for a few seconds more, then browse to update.zip. Obviously you preloaded the zip on a sdcard.
If ZTE release firmware B08, you'll have to root it again.
Battery life is excellent, as well as speed, camera, GPS fix is instant. I had a iocean X7 that i killed trying to get the gps working, but v975 feels a lot faster vs the X7's MTK 6589 quadcore 1.5ghz. Granted there's less pixels to move around.
One caveat : iCoyote does not install because of binary incompatibility ? This is an x86 device.
I also discovered the existence of AmazonMarket. Not as complete as GAPPS, but a nice fallback market. And most of the google stuff is installable by apk anyway, so living without GAPPS was not as bad as it looked.
Thx to Eric Xiang, his app prolly opens up all androidphones to googleplay, chinese phones can flood the rest of the world now
the above was two days of research guys, enjoy it !

bcmon not working properly on htc nexus one

Hi, guys I have a problem using bcmon on my HTC nexus one although it is compatible with this mobile but I don't know what the real prob is monitor mode can be enabled easily but whenever I open bcmon terminal or anything else from bcmon it force closes please help me guys......
Working solution
It comes from the pre-installed super user program; delete it in /system/app and install the latest su binaries from TWRP.
Then reinstall bcmon.
Oh you have installed cyanogenmod 7.2 right ? If not got to needrom and you will fond it there.
It's all wrong and here is how to solve it and were it actually comes from...
The busybox you find around are not all the same and the crashing point is the program 'cp' when you look at the log.
There is the stericson apk but it's not available because it requires a newer version than gingerbread...
So you just have to flash a busybox, but not any as said it might not be compatible, forget about getting the busybox 40 from these trash sites that embed viruses in their files.
The best rom for nexus one (in my opinion because evervolv crashes) https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723844
then if you need the gapps https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294152
and finally the compatible busybox https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/tool-busybox-flashable-archs-t3348543
