Which is the best version of TCPMP to use on the HD2? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Of the several dozen versions of TCPMP that seem to be floating around, which is the best, fastest, most stable, and nicest-looking on the HD2?
(Note that while posts along the lines of "I use version X" are okay, I would prefer replies along the lines of "I have tried versions W, X, Y and Z, and, of those four, Y is clearly the best because...". )

Esmertec JAVA Manager

Ok, this a bit off topic, but I guess people could find it usefull.
At least for me one of the most important applications on my MDA Vario with WM 6 (Pandora 3.2) is Opera Mini. It worked perfectly in the Intent Java Manager, *but* the last version (Opera Mini 4 beta) crashes it...
I tried one IBM Midlet Manager - not crashing, but ugly fonts, not working soft buttons.
Now I found Esmertec JAVA Manager. It looks good and it did not crash yet (*though so far I tested it only for a few minutes*).
It can be downloaded from:
http://wmblack.info/
Go to "Are there any Add-Ons?" and download "Black Add-On Cabs" (the file Enchantments.rar) ... There is a CAB "Esmertec JAVA Manager.cab" there...
Just install it - I used Pandora 3.2 with the previously installed Intent MIDP manager and had no problems to install Esmertec...
Thanks to Jimm98y for inspiration (I noticed he does have Esmertec in his ROM so I started to look for it - I have never heard about this Midlet Manager before)
@moderators: feel free to move this post elsewhere... I know it is not WM 6 specific...
Mirek
I posted similar information also on "Opera Mini" forum on Opera (with the note that if the moderators do not like the link to the website, they can delete it, but it would be nice to keep the info for other frustrated users of Windows Mobile and Opera Mini).
The reaction was swift. When checking it a few minutes later, the thread was deleted, together with my whole user account which I created this morning (without any warning). As if nothing has ever existed...
Well, never mind, I just wanted to help the fellow Windows Mobile owners... I do not care about forums on Opera...
Mirek
Tnx. I got it and will try it later today.
Mirek, do you know why you post is deleted? It is because Esmertec Java is not a freeware! It is normal to have post and account deleted if you post warez in software forums.

Well, both the thread and the account reappeared. The Opera forums had yesterday some technical problems, so maybe they worked with an old backup for some time (just a guess)...
As for warez: you may be right it is not completely legal, but I linked just a web with Hermes ROM (which is more or less similar to ROMs in this forum and which was *not* made by me)... This forum would not exist if we did not use "illegal" ROMs (there is no legal version of WM 6 for Wizard). So I leave this problems to moderators (I expect they may not like the link).
But back to the Opera Mini 4 Beta in the Java Manager. The only problem I saw was when writing text in edit fields. Remember to close on-screen keyboard before leaving the field! Otherwise it will "hang" there taking part of screen, impossible to close. If this happens, just open another text field, close the on-screen keyboard (it is possible only when editing) and go on...

I found a nice place with many Midlet Managers (just one catch - the web page is in Russian):

Just one thing to say, this forum is not that forum, what we like is not what they like.
anyone knows how to use esmertec and opera mini with a proxy?
the TAO midlet manager gave u the chance to change or add a proxy in the registry. so u could run opera mini with an o2 surf&email flatrate

you know, for some reason, esmertec java wouldn't allow me to grab and scroll in opera mini. and for opera mini beta 4, that's a travesty, because i could only navigate with the dpad, completely defeating the purpose. i had gotten used to the intent MM built into the standard Wizard rom, but since upgrading to NBD 8.0, Esmertec Java was there, which is why i tried it. now i'm simply installing intentMM along with it.
[extra note]
there's also that nasty little problem of, if entering something into a text box, one doesn't minimize the keyboard, it will stay there on the screen with no way to hide it, unless one goes into another text box. annoying?
did anyone else have these problems?

the same problems here. I'm using Risidoro's Intent Manager 11.1.7.1023 instead which deals with the program's graphics and overall behaviour much better.
Anyone has the CAB for 11.1.7.1029 ? What are the changes?
This topic begs me the question....
i was reading and i'm in the process of "trying" to make a ROM, and well i need to know which is better Emertec or Intent? i have Jaguar 3.1 rite now and it comes with Emertec, however I'm just beginning to explore my Java app options on my cingular 8125.
THe newest versions of esmertec (dated june and july) seemed to work fine with opera mini..including the scrolling...esmertec is included in XM6R3 rom..the one in my signature if you want to "try it"
Good luck.
Plus...
i just ran Faria's kitchen rom last night and i used the inent and i immediately was greeted with a " Invalid application" when i tried to start one of the java games the emertec java found so easy to operate. So i now agree that emertec is the better of the two.
For some reason, now, when I try to use IntentMM, I get "failed to install" and "failed to uninstall" messages, so I am going back and testing this new version of Esmertec. If anyone wants the link to it, here it is. Jbed is Esmertec and Tao is Intent, in case you don't know.
[edit]
Oh just great. I installed the newest IntentMM, and now it won't uninstall. Also, now Esmertec has timed out (the linked file doesn't work). I am now OperaMini-less..
It looks like the Esmertec midlet manager version most of people are using is just a time limited trial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326951
I certainly found out that the Esmertec in TNT 4.0 no longer works (unless the date is moved back).
I did not try any other Esmertec version, so there may be some good one around... I do not know.
Anyway - Opera Mini 4 Beta 2 now works fine with Tao Intent Midlet Manager so not a big problem for me.

The version in XM6r3 is 20070425.1.1 and it is still working just fine. I don't remember what it was now, but I had an issue trying to use the June version that was in TNT 4.0 (and a few other roms) so I dropped back to the April version. Lucky choice I guess

I believe its right just made a cab out of the same April package version thats been posted elsewhere, so his CAB would be the same as whats in XM6r3.
Sorry, haven't followed this closely, but what is the "full screen" version? No menu bar at the top and softkey bar at the bottom?
yes, with opera mini :
no wm6 menu bar at the top (but a "slim" red opera border)
and no wm6 softkey bar at the bottom (but a "slim" red opera bar)

Xfire Massager for PPC

Hi!
Does somebody knows about an instand massager for PPC Devices which uses the xfire protocol?
dude i would love this, but so far all i have found is a a java based app called openfire which can be found through xfires wiki page, but it uses a .bat to run. the makers of that app also distrubite some .jnlp version whatever that is. and there is xfireplus.com which uses a java applet and a new window, you could use minimo web browser for the new window bit, that is if you can find some way to get java running on your ppc. i have a dell x50v running wm and believe me java is a pain. what do you have for a ppc?
apparently there is a j9 thing that ibm has but you have to do some fancy work to get it and sift through a heap of crap and possibly compile and then add some library's. if any one find anything or can build something i would be ever so grateful. its just annoying to have to tote a laptop to talk with your buds bc they only run xfire. happy hunting to everyone to find something on this topic.

Please follow my previous articles - I've devoted several articles & tutorials to running Java applets.
In a word,
1. you'll need the CrEme JVM if you want to stick to IEM on Pocket PC's (not NOT on Smartphones. On Smartphones, it's only NetFront that will work when it's released.)
2. if other browsers are OK, Thunderhawk and NetFront 3.3 also has Java support. See my articles for more info on how it's different from that of the CrEme + IEM combo.
Edited my last post.
sorry, i had looked all over the net for running java on a ppc and never came across anything that worked for me, so i gave up. are you posts on this xda site as well? and i did come across CrEme JVM and installed it, but dosent it need some type of library?, thats what i was able to gather from their site. if you dont mind could you pm me a link to your other posts.

HTC Home

Hi,
This is my first post here. Please excuse me if I post in the wrong section, or if this is already asked.
I am borrowing a brand new HTC TyTN II, and I see this have a nice new Today screen with a big digital clock, a link to favourite persons, etc.
I think this might be called HTC Home, because it dissapears if I uncheck this in the Today Items list.
Question is:
- Is this an application that can be downloaded somewhere and installed on othe HTC devices?
- Will this only work on WM6 devices, or also on my old HTC P3600 WM5 device?
- If this is not possible to download, but embedded in the ROM, is there any easy way to "extract" this from the device I borrow? (could this be a CAB file that is in some hidden area on the phone)
Could someone please help me with these questions, or refer me to some links where this have already been discussed

Thanks for your answer.
I have downloaded and tested that several "Helmi" versions works OK on both my semidefekt (no sound/camera due to the fact that I have ripped those out to use on another phone) I-mate Jamin (with QTEK ROM) and my HTC P3600.
Both the 3 tab and 6 tab versions worked. For my P3600 all features seemed to work. Great!
Only some more questions about this:
a) The link you gave me contained a lot of pages, and a lot of sub links to other posts and versions. In fact it seems that there is very many versions of this plugin lying around on your and other similar sites.
It would be very nice if this tool could be added in the CAB archives page with a new clean post that lists what is the newest and most current version, and what version is for what phone, as it is quite difficult to follow all these pages lying around in the forum (which also is the reason why I reply in this post rather than in one of the many other existing ones).
Would this be something you eminent persons would consider?
b) I tried both the Helmi 3/6 tab versions and the Kaiser 5 tab versions. None of the Kaiser versions worked on my Imate JAmin/P3600, but I assume this is because the Kaiser versions obviously is intended for a different type of phone (or maybe it is WM6 they are intended for?)
Is this true?
c) If not, do these versions have any features that the Helmi versions don't have?
d) I tried these versions of the "Helmi" editions:
- HtcHome6_WM5_comp_sdkcert.cab (with the extra SDK_CERT.cab),
- HTCHomeWM56Tab.cab
- HtcHome6_WM5_comp.cab
They all had slightly different file sizes, and contained a bit different number of files/reg keys. So my question is: What is the newest and most stable version? (which version should I use?)
e) Are there other versions than these that are newer/better for the above mentioned phones?
As you see, I got a bit confused about all these pages. I got it working, so that is great, but if someone would bother to clarify these issues, and maybe even make a sticky post or add it to the CAB vaults, that would be even more great!

I Don't Get It (Manila Version)

I keep seeing add-ons, upgrades, themes, and so on for Manila. Lots, hell MOST, of them have warnings about version 2.0 or 2.1.
So how does one find out what version is on their device?
I have seen go to TouchFlo in Settings and use the About menu.
Mine says 3.0.
Huh? A few weeks back someone was posting incredulous messages about Manila being all the way up to 2.5 or 2.6! So I doubt that Settings|TouchFlo|About is the way to go.
Other people say go to the Settings tab in TouchFlo itself and scroll to the bottom. Mine says 1.2.35097.1_1813.6.
Um, OK..... Neither 2.0, 2.1, 3.0.
So just how DOES one find out what version of Manila is on their device?
Yes, I realize this will likely never get a straight response. Not blue-sky or skunkworks enough.
Just thought I'd ask.
By the by, I used the manilla file editor to grab some transparent flip clock images and put the call history, calendar, AM and PM icons (that were missing) in them. And have done software development, including development for handheld devices, for more than three decades, so no need to just assume I am a complete naif.
There are 2 kinds of manila.
Manila3D and Manila2D.
I am not looking at the numbers right now but i can tell you this much: QVGA devices(Tilt, vogue, 8525, etc.) use 2D and VGA devices(Diamond, touch pro, fuze, x1, etc.) use 3D.
There are only a few version of touchflo3D, i believe they are variations of 1.0, then 2.1(2?), and 2.5
Everything else is Manila2D, which goes from (sept 08) 0.11 all the way to (aug 09) ver 2.0
When you went into start>settings>system>touchflo you weren't looking at the Manila version, but the touchflo scrolling version. This is irrelevant.
Looking at the information you've posted, you have a touch pro running the original TF3D 1.0. (1.2)
Thanks, sirgatory.
Next n00b question. Two really:
Can manila (on my TP CDMA) be upraded to 2.X?
Where can I get the uprade (and the FM for it)?
Yes it can, however the easiest way is to flash a cooked ROM from ppcgeeks.com, as they deal with CDMA touch pros more than xda does. I'm not sure how to go about using a CAB file to update it.
But beware if you've never flashed a ROM before, you should read up on the process, especially for CDMA phones.
`You don't want to use a CAB. First of all, TF3D1 is integrated into your OS so much, if you take it out (which you'd have to do manually, thousands of manila files), it will mess up a lot of your OS. Installing it on top of your current manila might cause other errors.
Only way to do it properly, is by flashing a ROM with TF3D2 - there's many of them around.

Cotulla 3.03 or 3.04

Wich one is better ? More stable ? I read some comments here and there, spend some time googling it, and lots of ppl says that 3.03 version is more stable and got more functionality, is that true ?. Anyway can i run wm6 applications and games on that cotulla rom ? I mean is this rom changes a lot, or this is just some kind of visulization ?
I dunno if the 3.03 is more or less stable then the 3.04, as I have used them bothe for too litle time now to make a comparison. But what I can say is that these ROM's change a lot. I use a couple of WM5/6 only programs on these and all that I tryed do in fact run perfectly, on bothe ROM's. I dunno if that is true for all WM6 software around, but for those I use these ROM's worked like I charm!
1- After a lot practical experince with both 3.03 and 3.04, I can say definitely 3.03 is more stable in various ways. If you'll introduce your device with WM6.1 for the first time, I advice you to choose 3.03, you won't regret it. Anyway, there isn't much differences between them, they are both the same ROMs but the latter one has some ins and outs from the first one (3.03).
2- Yes, after upgrading to Cotulla's 3.03 ROM, you will be able to use any application suitable for WM6.1 (of course usage of some programs can depend on other extra applications such as macromedia, windows frame work etc). Since it's not theme or visualisation, it's pure and real WM6.1.
in reality there big differences between 3.03 and 3.04...
about the best version... everybody have own opinion.
but I will suggest u to install the last one, if u want help me with project
i like 3.04 better.
it seems faster and is over-clockable. (with extra cooling)
blue tooth is better (not turning off as much)
i still run 3.03 on my second xda, and must reset it each and every day. (problems vary but reset and it goes away)
the sound quality is an issue with all three roms. it may have something to do with the radio rom. (1.12)
also have issue with mms/data or internet. can not use wap.
thank you all
3.03 has camera support, 3.04 no..
