Xfire Massager for PPC - General Topics

Hi!
Does somebody knows about an instand massager for PPC Devices which uses the xfire protocol?

dude i would love this, but so far all i have found is a a java based app called openfire which can be found through xfires wiki page, but it uses a .bat to run. the makers of that app also distrubite some .jnlp version whatever that is. and there is xfireplus.com which uses a java applet and a new window, you could use minimo web browser for the new window bit, that is if you can find some way to get java running on your ppc. i have a dell x50v running wm and believe me java is a pain. what do you have for a ppc?
apparently there is a j9 thing that ibm has but you have to do some fancy work to get it and sift through a heap of crap and possibly compile and then add some library's. if any one find anything or can build something i would be ever so grateful. its just annoying to have to tote a laptop to talk with your buds bc they only run xfire. happy hunting to everyone to find something on this topic.

Please follow my previous articles - I've devoted several articles & tutorials to running Java applets.
In a word,
1. you'll need the CrEme JVM if you want to stick to IEM on Pocket PC's (not NOT on Smartphones. On Smartphones, it's only NetFront that will work when it's released.)
2. if other browsers are OK, Thunderhawk and NetFront 3.3 also has Java support. See my articles for more info on how it's different from that of the CrEme + IEM combo.

Edited my last post.

sorry, i had looked all over the net for running java on a ppc and never came across anything that worked for me, so i gave up. are you posts on this xda site as well? and i did come across CrEme JVM and installed it, but dosent it need some type of library?, thats what i was able to gather from their site. if you dont mind could you pm me a link to your other posts.

The Ewesoft program is VERY confusing.
And as far as i can tell, it didnt work.
I've been looking for some kind of Java that will allow me to run Java applets off of website (like jIRC).
Right now I'm looking at CrEme, which looks like its what I need. But I think I'll have to buy it (i really dont care at this point )

JAVA FOR XDA2
AHA!! I KNEW IT... ALL THESE "EXPERTS" CLAIMING TO HAVE A SOLUTION AND PASTING LINKS IN HERE,... AND YET THEY HAVNT FRIGGIN TRIED THE MEDICINE THEM SELVES ON THE XDA2 !!! ARGH!!!
THAT TICKS ME OFF SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! :>(
IM SO MAD I WANNA EAT MY CRT MONITOR!!! GRRRAAAAAA!!!!
HAS ANYBODY FRIGGIN GOT THEIR JAVA APPLETS RUNNING ON XDA 2 YET OR NOT!??!
PLEAAAAASE TELL ME... IF YOU HAVE, ILL KISS YOU, (if youre a supermodel) AND MARRY U.
I downloaded a copy of Netfront 3 which comes bundled with JVLite2. I havent really used applets with it (except for the 2 games and the calculator that comes with it) but it's been amazingly compatible with full blown Java based chat systems (with multiple resizable windows) when launhced through the Netfront browser. As for the midlet thing that comes with the phone I havent got it to work with anything, I can select the setup option then nothing happens.
Make sure you have ROM 1.60 or later if you're on an XDA 2 because I found that the Java program just disappears in some complex apps with anything older. Also be wary of using Java chat rooms on the train, if u go in a tunnel the Java program will freeze up and wont close, even with special task manager programs on the phone!

il be eagerly waiting ur feedback on the results
Dave
well i installed and used ewe compiled an old java program i wrote years agoe just to try it out and it ran just fine
it was no applet and had no gui
but it ran all the same
as for running java in a browser then i havent come across a plugin for IE maybe some of the other browsers have it maybe when opera comes to town it will have a plugin
p.s. writing with capital letters mean that you are shouting which is normal when one is fustrated but you have normal letters in the middle
which is "talking" normaly would be pretty fun irl mixing shouts and normal talk
opera? she makes browsers?!
that black female (barely) talk show host that cant make up her to stay either fat or thin makes browsers?
will it work for xda2?
how many browsers in total currently work on xda2
and is it possible 2 upgrade the version of ie that comes with xda2? say 2 version 6?
dude who got java working on xda2 for irc... still waiting 4 ur results on go.icq.com applet.
DAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's for smartphone but will prob come for pocketpc aswell
http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/software/internet_thunderhawk.htm
and another
how many browser project there really are is a question only google knows
if one can upgrade an ie on a pda depend on if it's located in rom and if it let other files shadow those files
but has anyone actually tried to run an applet on an xda2 with another browser yet?
so far evryone has theoretical ideas but would love to hear success stories on how the got their xda2 to run full grapgical applets. such as http://go.icq.com.
JAVA SUCCESS FOR XDA 2 !!
SUCCESS!!!
THE NET FRONT LEAD WAS SOLID! Thanks whoever sent that link!
I CAN NOW RUN FULL JAVA APPLETS ON THE XDA 2 WITH THE NETFRONT 3.1 BROWSER THAT COMES WITH A JAVA PLUGIN THAT YOU HAVE TO MANUALY ENABLE IN THE SETTINGS OF THE BROWSER PLUGIN SETTING.
YOU CAN EVEN SAVE IMAGES FROM THE WEB!! A FEATURE IE DOES NOT SUPPORT IN XDA 2.
Get it from

Need to run a large java applet?

I have just bought an Alpine (xda 2i) to upgrade from my himalaya. I really really need to use it to trade on the fx market... which involves me being able to load one applet.
The applet is located here: https://fx1.oanda.com/java/beta.html
I have tried netfront... and after days of trying to find out why this applet does not load even though other applets do, i found out that the java plugin for netfront does not support applets over https.
I tried with thunderhawk too... no success there either, even though they claim that their browser loads applets just as a normal desktop pc.
If anyone can help me load the trading applet on my xda 2i, ill give you a big sloppy kiss!
On another note, while wardriving when a new network comes into site, i get a popup asking if i want to connect and if its for 'work' or 'internet'. I keep having to press hide on all the popups. Does anyone know how i can disable the popups?
TIA
P.S. repect to the programmer of xdadev_all_unlock. Top app!
i need to run a SMALL java applet  , i've been searching for a solution since february 2004 :!: :!: :!: , I'm begging u guys , any help around ?
Many thanks
guess you could try
1 that mini firefox version for pda's
2 that java version of opera

Standalone WM6 Rom Emulator?!?!? Could it be?!?

I was just browsing the internet and I came across something VERY interesting... They say it is a standalone WM6 Rom emulator. I don't know whether or not to believe it but I know I can't try it right now. My XP partition is kinda small(40gigs) and my computer really doesn't have the Ram to run Vista anymore since I re-installed Norton 360 but I think this is something that deserves some serious attention here.
If this really works then we could potentially use this to test roms before flashing and hopefully avoid bricks in the future.
PLEASE, someone has to take a look at this...
http://www.chrisrue.com/funboard/comments.php?DiscussionID=11&page=1#Item_0
Nothing new as far as I understand it.
It is about Microsoft emulator (it has its own ROM images).
You can emulate WM 6 on a PC (with MS Visual Studio or a standalone emulator). I guess most of people know that.
*But you cannot emulate your own Wizard ROM*. This was discussed multiple times here...
Mirek
First, thanks for the linkage.
Before the release of the full standalone emulator package, I was able to use the Orcas VS beta release to install, then slide some pieces of the WM6 SDK into a rough "standalone" config. Thought it might be helpful for other folks looking to get some time with WM6 while avoiding any bricking risk to real hardware.
Since the release of the full standalone emulator package, including WM6 emulator ROMs, that linked post/thread doesn't actually mean a whole lot.
I've got some additional items on DEmu 1.0 and 2.0 using both WM5 and WM6, which can be found here:
http://www.chrisrue.com/funcave/2006/06/wm5-device-emulator-index.html
http://www.chrisrue.com/funcave/2007/03/device-emulator-v2-index.html
As stated already, the standalone emulator package doesn't really offer any benefits for cooking or testing hardware specific ROMs.
And many MANY thanks to the amazing technicolor pool of genius here at xda-developers. You've saved my bacon more times than I can count. So thanks for that!

Need Java CAB for testing on WM Emulator

Before anyone says it, yes I have searched. No luck.
I've been doing some reading of all the different browsers choices we have for our phones, so since I have some time on my hands, I've decided to do a test of all of them against a prescribed set of web pages in a WM emulator, then post a site with the results and screenshots.
I have the emulator and a few browsers already downloaded and operational, but I can't load Opera Mini since the emulator image doesn't include a Java VM.
If someone could post a CAB of the latest one for me, I'd appreciate it.

Dguitar, java applet:

is it possible to run this on ppc?
the online applet version:
HTML:
http://dguitar.sourceforge.net/fr/livedemo.html
the offline version as "dguitarapplet.htm":
HTML:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/dguitar/DGuitar0.3.1.v.zip?use_mirror=fastbull
the application itself:
HTML:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/dguitar/DGuitar-0.5.8.zip?use_mirror=garr
i'm new to the scene (just bought an ipaq 214).
i've read the java midlet bible, tried several combinations to no avail but
can't say for sure that it's impossible to run it on PPC, this is why i want an expert opinion.
thx in advance.
searched trough the net found nothing, there was only a single thread on this forum talking about Dguitar on ppc but no direct answer on the matter.
i tried CrEme plugin with PIE, JEODE plugin also, and nothing..
PIE can't display this applet, tried netfront 3.2 and nothing..
as far as i know opera doesn't have any workaround concerning the execution of java applets.
jbed and j9 gave me errors when i tried to execute the ".jar"..
i know that i still have to do deeper testing with CrEme to give up.
what i fear is that i messed up something on my WM install, trough heavy software installation, so all my testing could be erroneous.
i asked on this forum so i could have an answer from someone who have a clean and working java environment, if it is possible to execute this application, this application is unique because if it's working it would be the only "Guitar Pro tabs" capable application on the PPC.
