I am fairly new to the HTC/Android hacking (I've had fun with hacking motorolla phones in the past). I've been using the following Wiki to find out information on how to flash my phone etc.

so i found out that my phone is:
32b ship s-on g
HBOOT-1.33.0007 (SAPP10000)
i glossed over the SPL flashing on the wiki as my spl was not described as a 'perfect' spl. so when i came to section 3. Learn how to use fastboot and boot a recovery rom. i followed the steps and issued the CLI command
C:\AndroidSDK> fastboot boot recovery-rom.img
using the recovery-RA-magic-v1.2.3G.img rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
I recieve the following error:
downloading 'boot.img' ... FAILED (remote: not allow)
now i looked up this error and it seems like the SPL on my phone is a 'perfect' SPL. I don't really know enough about this stuff to confirm it though.
Can anybody help me out here? or maybe point me in the direction where this issue can be solved.......
Yes, yours SPL is the perfect spl....
There is a "one-click" method to flash recovery rom on your phone, so you do not have to fastboot via adb.
Step 1: Download Recovery Flasher (search forum for the link), and install it on your phone.
Step 2: Download your desired recovery rom image (Cy or Rav), and copy it to the root of sd card.
Step 3: Open Recovery Flasher on your phone, and enter /sdcard/xxxxxxxx.img and flash it
Step 4: Switch off your phone, and switch it on again by holding "home" + "power"
That is it!! You can now flash any mod rom
By the way, you can flash new spl once you got into recovery mode on your phone! So you can use fastboot if you wish.
I am a complete novice and only got my HTC Magic yesterday but am interested in putting on a Sense UI so I can have multi-touch functionality, etc.

I have checked the wiki for information as well as scouring through this forum and some stuff over at unlockr but am still a little confused what to do next and I am afraid I didn't really 'get' dereck66's response about the one click method. Sorry for the total inconvenience but I am totally new to all this so could someone explain this in more detail? Do I need to root and if so is this any different because it appears to be perfect SPL?

i have this same prblem, it seems to me no one has an answer, some boot.img will fit like dwang 1.13 hero and cyan is a nono.try dwangs and see if it works
I have been reading through loads and loads of pages on here and am getting a bit confused - please can someone help?
here are the details of my phone:
HBOOT-1.33.0007 (SAPP10000) : PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G : CPLD-10
I have read that this may be a perfect SPL but am I right in thinking that the 'one click' method from unlockr can get round this? do I just need to root follwing that method with the amon recovery or do I still need to change SPL? if so do I do this by following the goldcard method on here?
is that all necessary if all I want to do is flash a new ROM or do I just root and upload the ROM? (preferably cyanongen's latest offering or one of the many Hero ROM's that are floating about) I am still trying to get my head around this all, what I really want is to load the new ROM and use Loccy's betterbrowser.
If someone could explain in more detail, that would be great - not each process as I have the tutorials but just what stages I need to go through (for example - root using one click method...)

Today through this forum, I came to know latest Singapore ROM ( 1.5 + Sense). I was curies to flash that and without seeing it has a new version of perfected SPL I did it and now I am stuck. I cannot burn the Amon_RA's 1.6.2.

and i used ROM v2.16.151.1 (NON-Perfected stock SPL v1.33.0009) of course via goldcard/hboot without any problems or errors.
nice thread, but as stated there you must flash "a ROM with a version that is HIGHER than your current ROM version." there is no higher version than 3.03.751.4 which comes with Taiwan or Singapore 1.5 + sense ui
so the only solution right now is to wait for a higher version with a non perfected SPL.
Did you upgrade to Official HTC sense ROM successfully before?

I have tried it with those three rom.
what i got is
Main Version is older.
Update failed.
AFAIK, ROM higher version than singapore with non-perfected spl is not released yet.
so...

I still wish acidburn and amon_ra to come up with a solution. And that to, with amon_ra's method, we have to wait for another updated version of rom.

seems i had a lot of luck , before i did is i was sure that update via hboot will fail with "Main Version is older."
i thought you have updated with HTC Offcial update

Hi,
you are also stuck with perfected spl.
If you want, you can try to fix your SPL by following Amon_ra's fixed perfected spl thread or fastboot into recovery mode.
AFAIK, there is no solution YET to fix that HBOOT-1.76.0007 (SAPP10000).

I'm a newbie with android but have spent a lot of time the last few days reading the forums, and I can't seem to find any reasonable solution.
I have a Magic 32B from Vodafone germany.
So I started by following Cyanogens instructions...
. Install_the_Latest_Android_sdk
. Downloaded latest CM recovery
. Download the HTC Android 1.6 base image:
* http://www.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=enomther/ROM/&file=HTC_ADP_1.6_DRC83_rooted_base.zip
. Download the latest CyanogenMod ROM for your device:
* http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/update-cm-4.2.3.1-signed.zip
. Put both of these files on your SD card
. Plug the phone into the computer
. Reboot into fastboot, and pressed back button until it appeared in a bar. Although for me it was Red not yellow.
. Ran fastboot boot cm-recovery-1.4.img
However I received the error of perfect SPLs. So I used the instructions from Amon_RA

Copied ROM v2.53.707.2 (Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010) to my GoldedSD card.
This completed successfully....However, when it boots in recovery mode I just see a black screen that says htc magic. And it stays there. Left it for about 10 mins and nothing.
I tried pulling the battery, it booted regularly and into Android 1.5.
So I thought I tried flashbooting CM-recovery1.4. Now the flashboot worked at sending over the cm-recoveryAgain, black screen just saying htcmagic.

Ok, can someone at least tell me why I can't boot a recovery image? Are there any reasons?

Recovery image issue....Ok, it seems I figured out why the recovery didn't work.
As you may notice from the status, that image flashed the phone from:

So you need a recovery that is now H not G. (like recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2H.img)
Now recovery is available. So I followed CyM's instructions, just with this recovery image, Erase successful, and write successful.....Fastboot/recovery still working perfect, however telephone freezes on HTC screen during boot.
My thought is I should load an SPL that is G, fastboot RA's G image, then boot into recovery and re-load the CyGens ROM loads (as described).
Can someone with more experience let me know if I'm on the right track.....I was thinking of using RA's update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2004-signed as I believe that is a G SPL (not sure), and where can we get a G radio?

That is not correct! You still need to use a 32B recovery image => recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2G.img
G = 32B
H = 32A
AmonRa, since I loaded
ROM v2.53.707.2 (Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010) from your thread, now my status during fastboot screen reads..H not G.
If i run fastboot boot recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2G.img it just hangs at HTC screen.
If I run fastboot boot recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2H.img, I get the recovery menu.
This is why I was thinking of somehow flashing an SPL that is for G, then the G recovery menu, than a G Rom.
So how can I get back to: SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF G? And do I need to flash the radio, if so where can I find radio images?

the above was the detail i wanted to downgrade it in order to root it so had to use the GOLD CARD method to bypass the model ID check as i had a perfected SPL

so the radio changed to 32a and also show H here after that gold card flashing
i try to use one click root method got flash rec 1.1.3

and try to flash some G recoveries like recovery-RA-1.3.2G.img
and reboot in try to get flash recovery console it stuck on the boot image saying HTC MAGIC while if i use a H recovery image i get the recovery console
now SIR what can be the solution of this problem

Look on the radio.. He needs a 32A recovery.

Well as I said, my unit was an 32B with s-on G. After I ran that package in fast boot it became a 32B ENG S-OFF H. Also the recovery images only the H images would work from this point forward. (which are supposedly not for my device)
So I went and tried to load the radio for the G (from HTC ion site) onto it and rebooted instead of also loading the SPL. So now its bricked. HTC logo screen for fastboot, recovery and regular boot.
So I would suggest to anyone with a G unit not to use ROM v2.53.707.2 as that converted it from a G to an H even though the device was supposed to be a G. (Although somehow I'm sure it can be restored, better safe than bricked. Now I just hope the service center can fix it)
SaQuibs: Best of luck....One thing you may wish to try since you've been changed to H like me, and can't boot the regular OS, is to fastboot RA's H recovery image, and than wipe and load an H OS like RA-IONv1.6.2H and see what happens. Since it doesn't include a new radio hopefully it will boot Again good luck!

i have no plans to brick my phone as the country i live in there are no service centres of repairing places and HTC phones are not sold here we have to import and HTC gives no support as well

Read this post and execute the part to revert back to the 32B radio and ROM.
The problem is NOT with the goldcard, because that works perfectly.
The problem lays in the fact that you don't know what you are doing, and you flashed a 32A NBH onto a 32B without even knowing what exactly you were flashing

So by using the goldcard method you automatically end up with a "H SPL" and 32A radio? Or is there a way to around this, without manually reflashing another SPL and radio.
I have a Magic 32B with a perfect SPL and the goldcard method is the only way to go, right?

When you try to flash a NBH from another country/operator the CID check will fail and the flashing will stop. This is done so people can't just flash a rom from another country.
A goldcard (this is what engineers at HTC use) avoids the CID check (CID = Customer ID). This is the only reason why we use a goldcard, it has nothing to do with fixing a perfected SPL, or getting root, or whatever people tell you.
If you have a perfected SPL you can't use fastboot to flash or boot an image.
To fix this you will have to flash a non perfected SPL.
The only way to get a non perfected SPL is to flash an NBH that contains a non perfected SPL.
The problem is that we only have a few NBH's available that contain a non perfected SPL and a CID from another country/operator.
Unfortunately they are also for 32A devices and not for 32B devices.
This is the only reason why you need to get around the CID check and why you "upgrade" to 32A, and afterwards downgrade back to 32B once you have a non-perfected SPL.
If you have a 32A with a perfected SPL you'll only need a goldcard if your CID is different than the one of the NBH you are flashing, you'll also have no issues with a different radio because the NBH is for a 32A already.
If you find an 32B NBH with a non perfected SPL you'll also not have the different radio problem and you might not even need a goldcard if the CID is the same as the one in your phone.
Please be aware that you don't need to fix a non-perfected SPL to get root.
At the time that I wrote the SPL fix we didn't know about kernel exploits so we used this way to get root. In the mean time other ways are discovered to get root (like flashrec etc..). Those methods will however not fix your SPL so you will still not be able to use fastboot to erase, flash etc.
It's always easier to have an open SPL so you easily use fastboot to flash stuff to your phone.
You can also change the CID in your phone to a super CID (all 11111), when you have a super CID you can flash anything you want and you'll never need a goldcard. Changing the CID is something for another thread

so just wanted to as that if i use an H recovery to get to the recovery console will it work for me can i flash new ROMs

Couldn't find any topics about having problems with rooting HTC branded magic devices after applying _HTC Magic_RUU_Sapphire_HTC_Europe_2.20.401.2_HTC_Nordic_release_signed_NoDriver ROM from offical HTC home page, so have to ask.
Situation: HTC branded magic (32A). Before applying above mentioned RUU, tryed to root my phone. Everything perfect, but than i applyed backup from recovery flasher. Than installed this nordic RUU and it is not possible to root device using recovery flasher any more.
So how to root this device? Any ideas? I can't even downgrade to basic HTC provided ROM i had before.

I get to this point "- It should pick up the sappimg.zip and you should be able to flash it." and than it says: "Main Version is older!" and that's it. Where do i go wrong?
UPD.: Tryed this file (ROM v2.53.707.2) and those two manuals (http://vivekgolecha.blogspot.com/2009/08/as-promised-i-said-i-would-come-up-with.html and http://mariusmadsen.dk/2009/11/25/how-to-root-a-danish-htc-magic-from-3/) to get everything working.

I think I successfully made a goldencard. But it wont boot from the goldencard what ever i put on it. i get some error "no or wrong image

I used the guides topic creator linked to and it worked except that I can't flash my recovery program. Are you using Fastboot with USB connection to your PC?
yes i do, but i get an error.

thats when the phone is in fastboot usb, when the phone is started normally I just get waiting for device. But i know I have connection because when i run adb devices i get the serial number

Now I have big problem : keyboard map is incorrect and don't have home button (original T-mobile phone don't have search button) and I can't go to recovery. Now I want update to any SPL which support Tmobile phone button correctly and I want have root.
Please help me, I'm trying google it too.

... I thought it was usually bad to have a 3.x radio on a 32B.
Can you still fastboot?
(It's possible he could have clearly flashed the wrong SPL on it)

Yes, I can use fastboot and flashed recovery
I don't know why our dev doesn't post SPL with radio, as I know each SPL come with a radio, if you use fastboot flash correct a pair without reboot between flash them, your device never bricked

You must have a goldcard and you will be able to upgrade to any nbh file for G1. (I have a devphone nbh, I will find it and share)
