Booting Recovery Image Freeze

Hi,
I'm a newbie with android but have spent a lot of time the last few days reading the forums, and I can't seem to find any reasonable solution.
I have a Magic 32B from Vodafone germany.
So I started by following Cyanogens instructions...
. Install_the_Latest_Android_sdk
. Downloaded latest CM recovery
. Download the HTC Android 1.6 base image:

. Download the latest CyanogenMod ROM for your device:

. Put both of these files on your SD card
. Plug the phone into the computer
. Reboot into fastboot, and pressed back button until it appeared in a bar. Although for me it was Red not yellow.
. Ran fastboot boot cm-recovery-1.4.img
However I received the error of perfect SPLs. So I used the instructions from Amon_RA

Copied ROM v2.53.707.2 (Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010) to my GoldedSD card.
This completed successfully....However, when it boots in recovery mode I just see a black screen that says htc magic. And it stays there. Left it for about 10 mins and nothing.
I tried pulling the battery, it booted regularly and into Android 1.5.
So I thought I tried flashbooting CM-recovery1.4. Now the flashboot worked at sending over the cm-recoveryAgain, black screen just saying htcmagic.
Can someone please help me, my goal is to load a recovery rom, than install CyMod's Rom. I was following http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_MT3G/Magic_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
For reference, before starting my "upgrade" the phone was:

Can't boot recovery
Ok, can someone at least tell me why I can't boot a recovery image? Are there any reasons?

that gold card thing just messes things up i guess

Recovery image issue....Ok, it seems I figured out why the recovery didn't work.
As you may notice from the status, that image flashed the phone from:
sapphire unknown 32B ship s-on G
HBOOT-1.33.0007 (SAPP1000)
CPLD-10
Radio-2.22.19 26I
to:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (SAPP1000)

So you need a recovery that is now H not G. (like recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2H.img)
Now recovery is available. So I followed CyM's instructions, just with this recovery image, Erase successful, and write successful.....Fastboot/recovery still working perfect, however telephone freezes on HTC screen during boot.
My thought is I should load an SPL that is G, fastboot RA's G image, then boot into recovery and re-load the CyGens ROM loads (as described).
Can someone with more experience let me know if I'm on the right track.....I was thinking of using RA's update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2004-signed as I believe that is a G SPL (not sure), and where can we get a G radio?

That is not correct! You still need to use a 32B recovery image => recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2G.img
G = 32B
H = 32A

AmonRa, since I loaded
ROM v2.53.707.2 (Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010) from your thread, now my status during fastboot screen reads..H not G.
If i run fastboot boot recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2G.img it just hangs at HTC screen.
If I run fastboot boot recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2H.img, I get the recovery menu.
This is why I was thinking of somehow flashing an SPL that is for G, then the G recovery menu, than a G Rom.
So how can I get back to: SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF G? And do I need to flash the radio, if so where can I find radio images?

the above was the detail i wanted to downgrade it in order to root it so had to use the GOLD CARD method to bypass the model ID check as i had a perfected SPL
so now i have the following detail

RADIO-3.22.20.17
so the radio changed to 32a and also show H here after that gold card flashing
i try to use one click root method got flash rec 1.1.3
and i says
" PHONE TYPE IS EBI1/32A "
and try to flash some G recoveries like recovery-RA-1.3.2G.img
and reboot in try to get flash recovery console it stuck on the boot image saying HTC MAGIC while if i use a H recovery image i get the recovery console
now SIR what can be the solution of this problem

Look on the radio.. He needs a 32A recovery.

Hi,
Well as I said, my unit was an 32B with s-on G. After I ran that package in fast boot it became a 32B ENG S-OFF H. Also the recovery images only the H images would work from this point forward. (which are supposedly not for my device)
So I went and tried to load the radio for the G (from HTC ion site) onto it and rebooted instead of also loading the SPL. So now its bricked. HTC logo screen for fastboot, recovery and regular boot.
So I would suggest to anyone with a G unit not to use ROM v2.53.707.2 as that converted it from a G to an H even though the device was supposed to be a G. (Although somehow I'm sure it can be restored, better safe than bricked. Now I just hope the service center can fix it)
SaQuibs: Best of luck....One thing you may wish to try since you've been changed to H like me, and can't boot the regular OS, is to fastboot RA's H recovery image, and than wipe and load an H OS like RA-IONv1.6.2H and see what happens. Since it doesn't include a new radio hopefully it will boot Again good luck!

the problem is not with the ROM 2.53.707.2
the problem is with the GOLD CARD coz i loaded a different rom
wat i did was loaded an H recovery and then loaded a 32b rom but it was stuck on boot screen
i have no plans to brick my phone as the country i live in there are no service centres of repairing places and HTC phones are not sold here we have to import and HTC gives no support as well
so planing to sell it

Read this post and execute the part to revert back to the 32B radio and ROM.
The problem is NOT with the goldcard, because that works perfectly.
The problem lays in the fact that you don't know what you are doing, and you flashed a 32A NBH onto a 32B without even knowing what exactly you were flashing

So by using the goldcard method you automatically end up with a "H SPL" and 32A radio? Or is there a way to around this, without manually reflashing another SPL and radio.
I have a Magic 32B with a perfect SPL and the goldcard method is the only way to go, right?

When you try to flash a NBH from another country/operator the CID check will fail and the flashing will stop. This is done so people can't just flash a rom from another country.
A goldcard (this is what engineers at HTC use) avoids the CID check (CID = Customer ID). This is the only reason why we use a goldcard, it has nothing to do with fixing a perfected SPL, or getting root, or whatever people tell you.
If you have a perfected SPL you can't use fastboot to flash or boot an image.
To fix this you will have to flash a non perfected SPL.
The only way to get a non perfected SPL is to flash an NBH that contains a non perfected SPL.
The problem is that we only have a few NBH's available that contain a non perfected SPL and a CID from another country/operator.
Unfortunately they are also for 32A devices and not for 32B devices.
This is the only reason why you need to get around the CID check and why you "upgrade" to 32A, and afterwards downgrade back to 32B once you have a non-perfected SPL.
If you have a 32A with a perfected SPL you'll only need a goldcard if your CID is different than the one of the NBH you are flashing, you'll also have no issues with a different radio because the NBH is for a 32A already.
If you find an 32B NBH with a non perfected SPL you'll also not have the different radio problem and you might not even need a goldcard if the CID is the same as the one in your phone.
Please be aware that you don't need to fix a non-perfected SPL to get root.
At the time that I wrote the SPL fix we didn't know about kernel exploits so we used this way to get root. In the mean time other ways are discovered to get root (like flashrec etc..). Those methods will however not fix your SPL so you will still not be able to use fastboot to erase, flash etc.
It's always easier to have an open SPL so you easily use fastboot to flash stuff to your phone.
You can also change the CID in your phone to a super CID (all 11111), when you have a super CID you can flash anything you want and you'll never need a goldcard. Changing the CID is something for another thread

things are crystal clear the problem with me is i coundnt configure that fastboot thing i followed the instructions on android site but could not install the sdk tool and use fast boot
so just wanted to as that if i use an H recovery to get to the recovery console will it work for me can i flash new ROMs
coz i am already tired dont want to experiment any more

[32b] Got stuck in wrong bootloader and can't go anywhere !

Made some big progress. Managed to flash perfected SPL 2010. Now rooting and flashing a Hero ROM (for Magic).

RUU for 32A MAGIC VODAFONE ROMANIA - RUU SCREEN

Can anyone help with a RUU for mai Magic .... because during and update with the latest Oficial RUU from Vodafone 3.0.... freezed and had to unplug the usb . Since then my magic is in RUU screen . The fastboot works but the adb services does not see my device.
A little help please. A also have the back-up img's from the nandroid backup.
Ideas to solve this are welcome.

Same for me , have to send´it to vodafone for re-flash, try the vodafone download site in PT they have the RUU there English and Portuguese, maybe it works for you .

Restart the procedure with RUU bit press on the action key ( track ball ) from the beginning until it finishes.

if your magic show "RUU USB" wehn it connect to your computer ,that means your magic is ok.you should run ruu again.you may make goldcard first.

you will get spl 1.76.0007,and no way to downgrade.

I've tried to install the new oficial RUU_Sapphire_SMC_Voda_WWE_3.03.990.6_release_signe d_NoDriver from taiwan update.
It installed the hboot update and when was installing the radio update freezed at 36% and had too reboot it .
Since then my phone is stuck in Ruu Screen .
I tried to install different RUU but it keeps giving my the "custom id check fail"
The adb services doesn't work because it doesn't see my devices.
The fastboot it works.
ANY Help ...pls
I tried to make a gold but can't get the CID from the phone.

My phone's imagine seems to be 2.17.401.2 ( it shows during the RUU setup)
also it shows in the RUU screen :

Your goldcard didn't work. You failed somewhere. Try make goldcard again or take another card. Kingston SDCards worked flawless

If Fastboot works, you should be able to "fastboot boot" a recovery image, which should let you talk to the phone using adb. Cyanogen's 1.4 and Amon-RA's 1.5.2(G for 32B or H for 32A) recovery let you talk adb to the phone....

Now it's alive again ...but with the slow 1.5 Cupcake

1. As you posted in december "Checking CustomerID. Update failed". You didn't make goldcard properly. There are many posts, when people made goldcard correct and did upgrade.
2. RUU_Sapphire_SMC_Voda_WWE_3.03.990.6_release_signe d_NoDriver
is NOT vodafone!
This upgrade ONLY for HongKong Smartone
3. Provide us you full SPL-info now and read forum, to get eng SPL and custom recovery. Official updates are not need, cause modified ROMs have more power.

You're stuck with the same SPL that a lot of people have. It doesn't allow remote fastboot commands.
Ty the Flashrec (Recovery Flasher) instructions here on the forum to see if that works for you. Remember to download the HTC Hero recovery.img though, it's the only one that works with the 6.35.07.29 radio on these devices.
Try these instructions:
(I know it says for Hero, but the guide works on 32A magic with 6.35.07.29 radio)

Use this recovery image instead of the Modaco/Cyanogen one.

If that works, then you'll need to flash an engineering SPL.
Download it from here and save it to your SD card:

Boot into recovery by turning off your phone, then turning it on by holding Home and pressing Power. Choose the update.zip and you're good to go.
Then you can flash it back to original 32A radio and SPL using these instructions:

If the Recovery Flasher doesn't work, then you need to wait until somebody figures out how to root this SPL/ROM combination.

I have problems with flashrec. I installed it but when i tried to backup i see "Backup FAILED" and when i try to type sdcard/cm-hero-recovery.img (i have cm-hero-recovery.img in my sdcard) the Flash Custom Recovery Image button not active... And in adb shell i dont have su permissions...

OK, then your ROM has the kernel security hole closed that Flashrec needs to run.
You're stuck waiting until somebody figures it out.

Can i downgrade it? When i will create a GoldCard with what rom i can do it? Now i have HTC Magic_RUU_Sapphire_HTC_Asia_WWE_3.03.728.4 (for Malaysia).

you can try any possible way to hack that hboot.
if you found one, just let us know.
if you cannot find any solutions, pls enjoy the stable sense ui rom and wait for someone who can find the solution for us. no more barking or *****ing the rom devs

I was missing the Android Market wich didnt come with the Singapore RUU so just downloaded the the HK RUU, ran it with a gold card (dont know if thats really neccesary) and got Market.
The point being - if people are on the Singapore official update, would it be somehow possible to "patch" the HK RUU files from the temporary folders where it stores the files for the update? To say, replace the original HBOOT with an ENG HBOOT (possibly *.2007?)?
Since Singapore rom version is lower than the HK one..:
Singapore: ROM Version: 3.03.728.4(For Indonesia, Malaysia& Vietnam only)
HK-E: ROM Version: 3.03.990.6
..possibly it would skip the "wrong main version" or whatever it says during the update..?
Am I onto something here?

well first 728.4 or 990.6 is just the region code. 3.03 is the version number. and second, the right singapore rom number is 3.03.707.5 WITH market. u have downloaded a vietnam rom instead of singapore one. u can switch anyone of them without problem with goldcard since they are basically the same rom with tiny difference.

yes you are right. SG rom comes with market.
I have tried malaysia rom, vodaphone rom.
vodaphone rom is the fastest one for me but my pc didn't detect my phone if I install vodaphone hk rom. But it is faster than SG rom.
I have installed my SG rom on my phone several times.
no brick.
the thing is when I tried to replace any rom.zip or rom1.zip in the temp file with any other rom, somehow installation detected that i have replaced the files.
even I signed the zip. it didn't work.
even the signed the zip correctly, it will stop at hboot.
then got to install from RUU again.
HBoot seems to be so hard to crack and too strong to brick

can you tell me the step please. cause im using indonesian ruu & no market.
its perfect spl too..

About that "Backup FAILED" using Flashrec.apk..
I got that very same error when I used it on my new magic. BUT, when tried a second time (just hitting flash again) it WORKED! try if it works for you too.
I had an old 1.33 spl but don't think that part matters here

So any update to rooting?

Under singapore RUU installed HTC official ROM

You *MUST* create goldcard! Does not matter how you will do it.
You can search friend with android phone or you can search computer with Linux/Ubuntu and usb-cardreader inside.

Rooting SG HTC magic with sense UI

hi,
Sorry if its already discuss somewhere, Im holding a SG Magic hardset 32A mobo
my version is
HBOOT-1.76.0007
CPLD-12
RADIO-6.35.07.29
i cant seem to root the device, error i got is (fastboot remote: not allow) so i tried Amon_RA Fix perfact SPL but it show "Main Version is order!"
is it possible to root my device?? or is there any guide available that i can follow??

When you are in the FASTBOOT screen, is there S-ON in the first line?
If so, maybe you need to flash to Engineering SPL first, I used following one:

When updated, you should see "S-OFF" in the first line of FASTBOOT screen.
Then follow the Cursordroid's post:

And remember when you flash the recovery from Amon_RA, please choose the one for Hero on your magic, not the sapphire one.

Thanks for your help and reply, but it seems that this engineered SPL patch don't work, I'm getting "Main version is old" error. And after reading some other post, it seems that my HBoot version is one of those that cant be root yet.
