Whats Wrong? (Aman_Ra Help)

Hi guys, Im new here and decided to update my HTC magic with the hero rom thats all I wanted to do for now..This is my phone spec:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0004 (SAP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Apr 9 2009,23:30:40

Excellent guide for newbies like me, so I follow it and come to this little problem.
"If you see your device listed, we're about ready to go. Let's boot into the recovery ROM: fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.1.2G.img"
As my phone is google branded Vodaphone UK HTC Magic..
When I do the above the screen just frezzes on vodaphone splash screen and nothing happens on cmd everything is okay..
SO NOW: someone tells me the SPL needs to be flahsed, I think okay I will do this to solve problem.

I download this file and put on my SD card called update .zip
I boot into recovery menu HOME+Power and click update then I get some error saying the file dont match etc etc.
WHAT AM I DO WRONG??? please can someone help me Im knew and read so many guides here all gone conufsing also the hacking wiki is wrong has typos..

The reason you're getting the "file don't match etc etc"-error is because you booted your stock recovery and applied the update which isn't allowing an update signed with test-keys.
You should boot recovery-RAv1.1.2G.img and only then apply the SPL update.
So first we'll need to get recovery-RAv1.1.2G.img booting :
1. Please check if your "recovery-RAv1.1.2G.img" has an MD5 checksum = 16DFA87E7B583FDD9E151E857A8C5ECE ? (just to check that it isn't corrupted).
2. Try clearing your cache before booting the recovery image : fastboot erase cache

Did you download and flash the correct Amon_Ra recovery image? There are 2, one is G and other is H, look at the link/file you downloaded.

Follow directions closely. There are 2 different versions of the sapphire 32A or 32B. always make sure you use the right stuff that you are trying to download for.
There is also no need to create a goldcard any more for the perfected SPL. Look up the Sapphire WIKI that is stickied and gather the important information.
Then follow the directions in this link: this worked perfectly for me.

I also came across other threads that indicate how to do this much simpler way, but this is the only one I can vouch for since I have tried it.

just download the 32B radio and recovery image, then go into fastboot and do this
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RAv1.2.3G.img

Yes, do this. This should fix you right up.

loads of thanks guys but i messed up the recovery i flashed was of H build and ROM i was trying to load was of 32B i did the flashing and now cannot go forth the HTC MAGIC logo i am stuck there
but i can go to the recovery and also can go to the fastboot and Hboot menu wat to do now

Lol. If you actually read the thread you "followed", would would have noticed Amon_RA's comment later on which says..
"[...] if you're using a 32B you just have to flash a 32B radio after (see how-to root mytouch thread for more info on that)."
As already stated, you need to flash back to a 32B radio and the fastboot command(s) were posted on Page 1. If you don't know how to use fastboot then you need to do more reading before attempting anything like this - you will need the Android SDK from their website.
Ofc flashing your radio can brick your phone if dont wrong, so I'd advise you do some reading up.

I'm not sure if the radio img on the HTC Dev site is suitable - I mean I guess so, but I don't know much about radio flashing so am not 100%.
Check the stickies for links, or search for guides on fastboot/using adb.

Lol, then you needn't have downgraded in the first place. But anyway..
I'd advise sorting out your radio.img first (maybe the one from the HTC Dev ION site, but as I say I'm not sure), flashing an engineering SPL (now you don't have a perfect SPL anymore, this is a relatively straightforward procedure) and then flashing the Google ION official 1.6 ROM (unmodified ROM but you can gain root access and it's just normal 1.6).

Booting Recovery Image Freeze

Hi,
I'm a newbie with android but have spent a lot of time the last few days reading the forums, and I can't seem to find any reasonable solution.
I have a Magic 32B from Vodafone germany.
So I started by following Cyanogens instructions...
. Install_the_Latest_Android_sdk
. Downloaded latest CM recovery
. Download the HTC Android 1.6 base image:

. Download the latest CyanogenMod ROM for your device:

. Put both of these files on your SD card
. Plug the phone into the computer
. Reboot into fastboot, and pressed back button until it appeared in a bar. Although for me it was Red not yellow.
. Ran fastboot boot cm-recovery-1.4.img
However I received the error of perfect SPLs. So I used the instructions from Amon_RA

Copied ROM v2.53.707.2 (Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010) to my GoldedSD card.
This completed successfully....However, when it boots in recovery mode I just see a black screen that says htc magic. And it stays there. Left it for about 10 mins and nothing.
I tried pulling the battery, it booted regularly and into Android 1.5.
So I thought I tried flashbooting CM-recovery1.4. Now the flashboot worked at sending over the cm-recoveryAgain, black screen just saying htcmagic.
Can someone please help me, my goal is to load a recovery rom, than install CyMod's Rom. I was following http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_MT3G/Magic_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
For reference, before starting my "upgrade" the phone was:

Ok, can someone at least tell me why I can't boot a recovery image? Are there any reasons?

Recovery image issue....Ok, it seems I figured out why the recovery didn't work.
As you may notice from the status, that image flashed the phone from:

So you need a recovery that is now H not G. (like recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2H.img)
Now recovery is available. So I followed CyM's instructions, just with this recovery image, Erase successful, and write successful.....Fastboot/recovery still working perfect, however telephone freezes on HTC screen during boot.
My thought is I should load an SPL that is G, fastboot RA's G image, then boot into recovery and re-load the CyGens ROM loads (as described).
Can someone with more experience let me know if I'm on the right track.....I was thinking of using RA's update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2004-signed as I believe that is a G SPL (not sure), and where can we get a G radio?

That is not correct! You still need to use a 32B recovery image => recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2G.img
G = 32B
H = 32A

AmonRa, since I loaded
ROM v2.53.707.2 (Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010) from your thread, now my status during fastboot screen reads..H not G.
If i run fastboot boot recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2G.img it just hangs at HTC screen.
If I run fastboot boot recovery-RA-magic-v1.3.2H.img, I get the recovery menu.
This is why I was thinking of somehow flashing an SPL that is for G, then the G recovery menu, than a G Rom.
So how can I get back to: SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF G? And do I need to flash the radio, if so where can I find radio images?

the above was the detail i wanted to downgrade it in order to root it so had to use the GOLD CARD method to bypass the model ID check as i had a perfected SPL
so now i have the following detail

RADIO-3.22.20.17
so the radio changed to 32a and also show H here after that gold card flashing
i try to use one click root method got flash rec 1.1.3
and i says
" PHONE TYPE IS EBI1/32A "
and try to flash some G recoveries like recovery-RA-1.3.2G.img
and reboot in try to get flash recovery console it stuck on the boot image saying HTC MAGIC while if i use a H recovery image i get the recovery console
now SIR what can be the solution of this problem

Well as I said, my unit was an 32B with s-on G. After I ran that package in fast boot it became a 32B ENG S-OFF H. Also the recovery images only the H images would work from this point forward. (which are supposedly not for my device)
So I went and tried to load the radio for the G (from HTC ion site) onto it and rebooted instead of also loading the SPL. So now its bricked. HTC logo screen for fastboot, recovery and regular boot.
So I would suggest to anyone with a G unit not to use ROM v2.53.707.2 as that converted it from a G to an H even though the device was supposed to be a G. (Although somehow I'm sure it can be restored, better safe than bricked. Now I just hope the service center can fix it)
SaQuibs: Best of luck....One thing you may wish to try since you've been changed to H like me, and can't boot the regular OS, is to fastboot RA's H recovery image, and than wipe and load an H OS like RA-IONv1.6.2H and see what happens. Since it doesn't include a new radio hopefully it will boot Again good luck!

i have no plans to brick my phone as the country i live in there are no service centres of repairing places and HTC phones are not sold here we have to import and HTC gives no support as well
so planing to sell it

Read this post and execute the part to revert back to the 32B radio and ROM.
The problem is NOT with the goldcard, because that works perfectly.
The problem lays in the fact that you don't know what you are doing, and you flashed a 32A NBH onto a 32B without even knowing what exactly you were flashing

So by using the goldcard method you automatically end up with a "H SPL" and 32A radio? Or is there a way to around this, without manually reflashing another SPL and radio.
I have a Magic 32B with a perfect SPL and the goldcard method is the only way to go, right?

When you try to flash a NBH from another country/operator the CID check will fail and the flashing will stop. This is done so people can't just flash a rom from another country.
A goldcard (this is what engineers at HTC use) avoids the CID check (CID = Customer ID). This is the only reason why we use a goldcard, it has nothing to do with fixing a perfected SPL, or getting root, or whatever people tell you.
If you have a perfected SPL you can't use fastboot to flash or boot an image.
To fix this you will have to flash a non perfected SPL.
The only way to get a non perfected SPL is to flash an NBH that contains a non perfected SPL.
The problem is that we only have a few NBH's available that contain a non perfected SPL and a CID from another country/operator.
Unfortunately they are also for 32A devices and not for 32B devices.
This is the only reason why you need to get around the CID check and why you "upgrade" to 32A, and afterwards downgrade back to 32B once you have a non-perfected SPL.
If you have a 32A with a perfected SPL you'll only need a goldcard if your CID is different than the one of the NBH you are flashing, you'll also have no issues with a different radio because the NBH is for a 32A already.
If you find an 32B NBH with a non perfected SPL you'll also not have the different radio problem and you might not even need a goldcard if the CID is the same as the one in your phone.
Please be aware that you don't need to fix a non-perfected SPL to get root.
At the time that I wrote the SPL fix we didn't know about kernel exploits so we used this way to get root. In the mean time other ways are discovered to get root (like flashrec etc..). Those methods will however not fix your SPL so you will still not be able to use fastboot to erase, flash etc.
It's always easier to have an open SPL so you easily use fastboot to flash stuff to your phone.
You can also change the CID in your phone to a super CID (all 11111), when you have a super CID you can flash anything you want and you'll never need a goldcard. Changing the CID is something for another thread

things are crystal clear the problem with me is i coundnt configure that fastboot thing i followed the instructions on android site but could not install the sdk tool and use fast boot
so just wanted to as that if i use an H recovery to get to the recovery console will it work for me can i flash new ROMs
coz i am already tired dont want to experiment any more

Upgrading ROM to Hero

Hello.
I just got my Magic a few days ago, and i am considering trying to get the Hero ROM onto it heavily. However, as i just got it recently and it's not really a cheap phone, i really don't want to brick it.
So, how great is the chance it'll brick? Is there any way i can make the chance smaller (thinking different ROMs etc?), what is SPL and Radio?

Well, appearantly there's a bunch of people who actually manages to do so, what are they doing wrong?
Talking SPL, what is it? What is a perfect and a hard SPL? And how do i know what i currently have?

hold back while powering on your device at the top it will say HBOOT bla bla bla it will also say 32b/32a this is the key element, flashing a 32a onto 32b and vice versa could brick your device. Dont use the TW sense rom as that seems to brick devices

As i wrote in the original post, it's a 32a device. Do you have any links to a relevant guide for me? One which is really in-depth would be really great, as i am new to the android universe. Thank you

The MyHero ROM seems attractive to me, would anything hold me back from using that?
And by the way - if i change my mind after getting the Hero ROM on my device, is there any way to get the original ROM back onto it?

once the hboot is done boot into recovery (home+power) perform a backup with nandroid and there is your failsafe,Once you have backed up choose your 32A rom taking note of what the Developer reccomends most of them link you to what you need.

Thank you. I just got a last question, in what part of getting it from original to hero is the risk of bricking it?

Mainly the spl i think or the chance of flashing the wrong radio (i did wrong radio on 2 phones!) providing you read all the info correct from amon ra and other devs you should be ok.
If yours really is 32A i think youd be better to look for a sense ui rom BASED on the TW official rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552274 is one) but im not sure and take no responsibility.
By the way this should have been in general and not development forum

You only really need to be careful flashing the HBOOT/SPL
Go through all of the steps in section 2 of this guide:

Install Flashrec

Download Amon_Ra Recovery

Save it to your SD card as recovery.img
Run Recovery Flasher on your phone
Backup recovery
Type in the path to your new recovery:
/sdcard/recovery.img
Flash new recovery
Now you can flash custom ROMs.
At this point, you can also flash a new SPL onto your phone.
For 32A, I suggest the 1.33.2010 SPL
Make sure to read all directions very carefully. If you are not 100% confident in your abilities, you might want to get some further assistance.
If Flashrec won't run, you need to downgrade your phone:

Downgrading will definitely void your warranty with no easy way to restore your original splash screen, it's pretty obvious to your wireless carrier that you've modified your phone.

Mainly the spl i think or the chance of flashing the wrong radio (i did wrong radio on 2 phones!) providing you read all the info correct from amon ra and other devs you should be ok.
If yours really is 32A i think youd be better to look for a sense ui rom BASED on the TW official rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552274 is one) but im not sure and take no responsibility.

Flashing a 32B radio onto a 32A Magic will cause some trouble, but shouldn't brick the phone. The problem is that after flashing the 32B radio, you might have forgotten to flash a 32B recovery environment. If that's the case, then fastboot flash the 32B recovery.
It worked for me a few times when I was switching between 32B and 32A radios to try out different ROMs.
I did, however, brick a 32A Magic when I was flashing a new SPL. Not sure how it happened, glad I had warranty.

I was very into the PSP back in the days where it came out, using homebrew and so on. Yet i am never confident when facing something i haven't been messing around with before.

I can help, and I'm sure there are more helpful people around here.
You have what's called a 'Perfected' SPL. Certain version of the Magic SPL (HBOOT) don't allow direct flashing of the recovery.img needed to run new ROMs.
Normally, you can boot into FASTBOOT (Back+Power) and then type:

fastboot boot recovery.img
But with a 'Perfected' SPL, you get the message:

remote:not allow
It used to be easy to root these phones, but HTC is getting smarter with their protection.

Essentially you need to:
- Flash the Amon_RA Recovery using the Recovery Flasher
- Boot into Recovery Mode (Home+Power) and flash the new SPL.
- Download your favorite ROM (MyHero is recommended for new users)
- Flash the new ROM using Amon_RA Recovery (Home+Power)
If Flashrec doesn't allow you to backup your existing recovery and flash a new one, then you need to use the steps outlined here:

Rooting SG HTC magic with sense UI

hi,
Sorry if its already discuss somewhere, Im holding a SG Magic hardset 32A mobo
my version is
HBOOT-1.76.0007
CPLD-12
RADIO-6.35.07.29
i cant seem to root the device, error i got is (fastboot remote: not allow) so i tried Amon_RA Fix perfact SPL but it show "Main Version is order!"
is it possible to root my device?? or is there any guide available that i can follow??

When you are in the FASTBOOT screen, is there S-ON in the first line?
If so, maybe you need to flash to Engineering SPL first, I used following one:

When updated, you should see "S-OFF" in the first line of FASTBOOT screen.

And remember when you flash the recovery from Amon_RA, please choose the one for Hero on your magic, not the sapphire one.

Thanks for your help and reply, but it seems that this engineered SPL patch don't work, I'm getting "Main version is old" error. And after reading some other post, it seems that my HBoot version is one of those that cant be root yet.
